Reid just killed her father. There’s no way Evelyn’s gonna mate him now … Dammit.

Werewolf Reid Bennett has one goal: investigate the Brookfield clan’s Itan. Reports are coming in that the male is abusing his werebears and – even if he’s a werewolf – Reid will put a stop to it. Unfortunately, the resolution ends up being permanent and now Reid’s the clan’s leader.

The only positive about his new situation: curvy werebear Evelyn Archer. She makes his wolf howl and he aches to explore every inch of her lush frame. He’s the clan’s leader and he knows exactly where he’d like to lead Evelyn — his bedroom.

Evelyn doesn’t know what to do with Reid. Sure, he’s the sexy wolf her werebear wants to nibble and claim, but she has bigger issues to deal with. Such as the fallout of her father’s death … at Reid’s claws. Okay, maybe she can take a break for one little lick …

They both have plans for the Brookfield clan … and each other. Except there’s a small problem — someone wants them dead. Nothing new for Reid, but a threat against Evelyn is unacceptable. When it comes to Evelyn, he’ll break all the rules to keep her safe, including dusting off his homicidal tendencies again.

The best part about this book is Reid and his inner monologue, it's hilarious.

Reid is an alpha werewolf who's a psychopath (he admits he is), but not a Norman Bates type, more the friendly psycho who kills the bad psychos before they go Manson Family on everyone. Make sense? Reid works for the head honcho of all bears for the South as his "problem solver" because he's so good at wet-work (murder/torture). He's been sent to investigate the Brookfield bear clan and fix any problems. He does, by killing the Itan (bear chief) and his evil brothers as soon as he arrives.

Evelyn "Evie" Archer is the daughter of the now deceased Itan Archer and new to the clan, but has already been beaten and tortured for a week by her uncles and father. Great family reunion. She's quite happy about Reid's arrival and purging of the evil leaders. Not to mention that he's her mate. Evie was a good character in that she's kind and caring, but definitely not a pushover and she wants to help people, especially Reid. She's also not afraid of him and accepts him as he is. Most everyone is terrified of him because of his aptitude for murder.

Reid, despite being crazy with a hair trigger, he cares about people and he's very sweet to Evie. He desperately needs her for his sanity and let's her know her worth to him all the time. He's good at communicating with Evie and basically a perfect alpha, plus an extra side of crazy psychoness.

As for his inner monologue, he's always wishing how he could kill more and talk less. He thinks about how his necessary killings of a child rapist will get him into trouble with his therapist and what else she'll take away - she's already taken away alcohol and cigarettes. Maybe she'd make him do yoga - he "fucking hates yoga." I wish more books were this amusing.

Short and amusing good book.

Well, this was an interesting read for me. Let me say, I love Celia Kyle. I’ve read many of her books. She has a fantastic sense of humor. Her heroes are hot, alpha males with that “mine” mentality I adore. Her heroines are smart, sassy and strong.

Reid is a psychopath…seriously. He has anger issues and would just as soon kill you as to look at you. I F’ing LOVED him. He was your typical hot, alpha male. The way he loved Evie was amazing. I loved how he accepted the clan and everyone in it as “his”. No one messes with what is HIS! You do, you’re dead. End of sentence…

Evie was so strong and a warrior. She stood up for what was right even if it almost cost her her life. She loved Reid no matter that he had blood on his hands. She was never scared of him like everyone else was. I liked how they accepted each other immediately, neither of them hesitant.

The major problem I had with this book was I felt like I was reading someone else’s writing. I don’t know what it was, it could have been me, the mood I was in. I had a hard time following the dialog in the beginning. I felt like it was all over the place. I couldn’t tell who was saying what and at times felt like the sentence was out of place, that it jumped around. It seemed to get better by around 30% but still didn’t have that easy flow that I’ve seen in many of Ms Kyle’s books.

I would give this 3.5 stars but round up to 4 because of the storyline and the two main characters.

This made for another fun shifter read. Here's my breakdown:

The pros:
* For a shifter read where the couple meets their "mate" often the insta-love is done to an overkill, thankfully that wasn’t the case with this book
* Smoking hot sex and quite steamy
* Fast moving, action packed plot

The cons:
* I was left wanting more from the hero and heroine - I liked them but didn’t love them. I would have liked some more development for them as a couple
* I think $3.99 was priced on the high side - it's only 150 pages
* I wanted some banter between the characters - some funny and/or smartass moments occasionally - I just didn’t find any humor at all in this one

Overall, this was a quick but satisfying paranormal romance, and I will defiantley check out more of Kyles future work.

This story is my favorite from the Grayslake series.

I love the fact that this book was a longer book because I could enjoy more CK characters and her humor.
It took me a page to like Reid. He was the perfect character for me: psychotic, out for blood, do not mess with me or mine. It didn't take me much time to connect him with his half sister from Grayslake and her story. I remember him as a ruthless Alpha who lost his pack due to his violent nature and I am so happy that he got his story.
Reid was sent by Terrance to "investigate" the Brookfield clan’s Itan after an anonymous call for help. Obviously he killed the Itan and ended up Itan for a Bear clan.
The caller was Evelyn - Evie for Reid - who was Reid's mate and the perfect woman for him. Through her I discovered his story and why he was so "psychotic". That made me like Reid even more.

I loved the book. It was a fun read with enough action to keep me entertained. Besides what's not to like about a bad-ass with a tender heart?

Reid, the ruthless Alpha who lost his pack due to his violent nature, finally gets his own happy ending! I enjoyed this look into a character who is a bit darker, a bit edgier, a LOT more vicious than any other pack member we've seen to date. He's not your typical H but I enjoyed it nonetheless. You find out why he has aggression issues and it's a bit sad, but understandable. The romance was intense and powerful.

The only reason this is not a 5 star read is due to some issues that should have been caught in the proofreading process before publication. Incorrect words (such as or when the author meant of), and a time or two that words were just missing altogether. Other than this, definitely in the top two of this series.

There were a lot of things I really enjoyed about this book. First--the H himself. I'm a sucker for the "super alpha--everyone thinks he's crazy and dangerous, but the h finds him adorable" leading male. The h was also very strong, and sweet, add a very good match for the H. They both recognized each other as their mates fairly early into the story, but I felt there was still a buildup to their relationship. I also liked the danger and suspense, which started pretty much from the beginning, and there was the perfect sprinkling of humor to keep it from going too serious. I know this author usually writes books that are on the shorter side--I tend to find them fast, entertaining reads. However, I wish there was more detail in this one as to what was going on. For example, the H and h were talking, then all of a sudden they were kissing. I just found myself backtracking a few places asking "how or when did that happen?" I don't like books with endless pages of unnecessary descriptions, but I would have liked a little more to help it flow easier for my reading style. I received an ARC for my honest review, but it's one of those books I would recommend anyway!

Grayslake book 5

Finally, Reid gets his own story. As seen in previous Grayslake books, Reid is a wolf that has aggression issues with a side of bloodlust. This is also seen as extreme and he has a therapist to help counteract this. I found it quite interesting to hear Reid's back story and why he is the way he is. I also like how you come to realize he is not a sociopath, through the introduction of his mate Evie. She sees who Reid truly is and helps balance him.
This story is about Reid coming to a bear clan to check it out after a report of trouble. Knowing Reid, it is not a simple or clean cut as watching and reporting. There will be blood and violence a true hallmark of Reid's. As Reid tackles the issues of the clan as the new Itan, he finds his mate, the previous Itan's daughter.
This was a good a full story and I enjoyed just like the others in this series. I am waiting for the next one. Hopefully the foreshadowing is correct in who is next!

3.5 stars rounded up. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this story, as Reid was never a character I liked before. But it seems all the snarly, sociopathic wolf needed was to find the right causes to champion. He is sent to investigate a bear clan, rescues said clan from its truly evil inner circle (the words I really want to use would have me filling Mia's swear jar), becoming their Itan. But he also finds his mate, and through their relationship we see what has made Reid what he is, and what he can now become for her and his new clan.

I only had one problem, which brough it down half a star. If this is the final book in the series, it left loose ends, and left me wanting more. If there is another book I haven't found it yet, and would love to know.

Thank you so much Celia for the review copy of Reid's story, I absolutely loved it. Evie and Reid are a perfect pair for mates. She is perfect for him. I also loved the other characters. Asher, Carter and Evie's sister Simone. The book had everything humour, action, some nasty family members, and their just deserts. I am looking forward to reading more books in the Grayslake Series. Please let it be soon. Highly recommend this book and author.

Thought provoking, funny and sad - all at the same time. The evil in this story is unrelenting. The dichotomy of emotions is hard to take - but in the end - as always -love and laughter take the day!! Well done!!

Review originally posted at RabidReads.com.

This book is a little different from the previous books in this series. Mostly, this is the first book in this series that doesn’t involve one of the Abrams brothers. Second, it doesn’t take place in Grayslake. You might ask why is it in the Grayslake series. Well, the hero of this story is known to us. He is the former alpha of the wolf pack that lived outside of Grayslake and ally to the Grayslake bear clan. That is until he went a little crazy. He was dethroned and was kicked out of the territory. He is now helping the Southeast Itan (clan leader, or in this case regional clan leader over all the clans in the area). He is working as an enforcer and doing a lot of wetwork that others can’t do.

Reid Bennett was sent to check out the Itan (clan leader of bears) for Brookfield for the Southeast Itan. Only he didn’t pay much attention to the picture of the guy he was given. When he first comes into town, he sees a guy trying to rape a young girl. Needless to say, even as a psychopath, he has a problem with this. In the process of saving the girl, Reid kills the bear. Only when he calls the Southeast Itan to let him know that the problem is bigger than they thought it might be, it is recommended to check for ID. Reid had killed the Brookfield Itan. Well, crap, that changes things. That kinda puts Reid in charge, even though he is a wolf and there is a lot of cleanup to be done.

Evelyn didn’t grow up with her bear father. She grew up with her human grandmother and the clan that they were a part of. However, when her grandmother died, in her will she wanted Evelyn to go back and join her father’s clan. Following her grandmother’s wishes, she did. Only, it was worse than she ever thought it could be. Her dreams of becoming a doctor go out of the window, while just surviving and protecting her younger half sister take priority. Her father and uncles are quite a corrupt group of bears using fear and abuse to rule. That is until Evelyn finally gets enough guts to make a single, very important phone call to the Southeast Itan about what is going on in their town.

Once again, Celia Kyle takes some really tough subjects and writes a great story around it. I love how she took an anti-hero and psychopath in Reid and makes him redeemable. Evelyn is the perfect mate for him. She isn’t even a little bit scare of him when everyone cowers around him all the time. She all but swats him on the nose with a newspaper to get him to act more civilized to the other townspeople. I did miss the characters from the first four books, though they do make a small appearance towards the end of the book, it just wasn’t the same without them. All in all, it was a great story.

I will mention that this book does have some touchy subjects such as rape, but does not show any of this happen on page. The rape that Reid comes upon at the beginning of the story, is not really rape, but would’ve have been if he hadn’t appeared when he did. There are women in the town who are pregnant with children that are the result of rape as well. There is however a pretty brutal scene of Evelyn being beaten by her uncles as they try to figure out what call was about.

“Then tell him why he should have stayed back. You say you have to lead the clan as if they were children. Well, act like a damned parent, then.”
“I don’t like your tone.”
“She rolled her eyes. “And I don’t like that you’re being a dick, so we’re even.”

She liked the guy—inched toward more than liking him—but her mate saw everyone as a threat. Everyone. Even Sam in the hardware store who had to be near eighty and half-blind.
Sam threatened to put Reid over his knee. Reid threatened to rip out his heart…
Good times.

3.5

Received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I just gotta say I love it when CK does the longer stories. I've only read one of the other Grayslake books so I have no idea if Reid made any previous appearances, but I think I was half in love with him after the first paragraph. It may say something about myself that I love a character who is borderline psychotic, but right away we know he's in therapy for his rage issues although they don't seem to be taking to well since he's standing over a dead body. It takes a certain type of heroine to take on a wolf shifter who everyone seems to fear (with good reason) and stand her ground. We get that with the delightful bear shifter Evie. Evie can take a beating and still manage to stand tall in front of a growling, raging uber-alpha wolf. Together they were balanced, or at least as balanced as Reid is capable of. I kind of wished I had read all the books in the series just because I found it odd that a wolf would be able to become the Alpha/Itan of a bear clan...that's not the usual scenario in packs so I wonder if that was something more common in the Graysslake world. CK covers all the bases from heartbreaking drama, humor, action (there was one part even my violence loving self went "ewww", guess Reid and I share the same squick factor) and limited but hot sexy scenes. For me who tends to be hit or miss with CK's stories this was a definite "hit".

Grayslake is my favourite series from this author as I feel it has more depth to the stories and characters. My only complaint for this one was that it was too short hence the 4 stars. Reid was such an awesome, if not slightly insane, character that I felt the book length didn't do him enough justice!
Having said that what we got was still great. I mean a wolf the Itan of a pack of bears, that makes for some laughs, add in his psychotic ways and it keeps getting better.
Evelyn was a strong character and I felt a perfect match for Reid. Not sure if the author has plans for more in this series but it felt a bit like we could possible be seeing more from Reid's bears?

Reid

I couldn't wait for Reid's book. And she didn't disappoint! If you have read or are planning to read this series you will dislike Reid then hate him then hope he dies and then by the time you finish Isaac and Kira's book you can't wait for Reid's. I enjoyed it and I highly recommend reading the series. I only wish that she would have put "Language" in this one.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

So this is the last story in the Grayslake series. The first four books focused on the Abram brothers in Grayslake. This one actually focuses on Reid, a werewolf and former alpha of the pack that lives just outside of Grayslake. Reid is a character that has been around since the beginning. He lost his ability to be alpha when he went after one of the Abrams brother’s mate. He was kicked out of the area. Now he is working for the Southeast Itan (which is the leader of the entire southeastern US). He is sent in to fix problems. He has now been sent to Brookfield to investigate after a call was made to the Southeast Itan.

The book opens up after Reid has just killed the first person he comes across in the town of Brookfield. This person had it come. Reid saved a young girl from getting raped. He sends her on her way and then makes the call to the Southeast Itan. Then he realizes that the man he killed was the Itan of the local bear clan. So now, instead of just investigating and reporting back. Reid has to go in and take over the town.

Evelyn is the person who made the call. She wasn’t raised in Brookfield. She was raised with her grandmother’s clan until her grandmother’s death. She was then forced to go live with her father, the Itan of Brookfield. Now her uncles are beating on her for making the call to the Southeast Itan. That is until Reid comes down and kills all of her uncles (except the one that gets away initially).

So this story is a bit darker than the previous books in this series. Part of that is the nature that brought Reid to the town. Part of it is that Reid is a very dark character. He is a psychopath and knows it and is okay with that fact. Evelyn isn’t even the slightest bit scared of him. She is the perfect mate for him because of that fact. She will stand up to him when he needs it, but also doesn’t shy away when he goes a bit nuts and starts killing people (he does only kill people who deserve it, though he does think often about killing others for annoying him).

There is also a short story at the end of this book called Sunday Bear-becue. It is a nice chance to spend some time with all the characters in the series. It mostly focuses on Ty and Mia, the main couple for the first book, but all the couples are present.

Narration
great job with each of the different characters. I think she did a wonderful job with the funny parts and the dark parts. She was also very good at the sex scenes. I loved her male and female voices. I hope to find her narrating more books in my future.

Evelynn was forced back to her Father's pack by her Grandmother's will and it is worse than she could have imagined. Her own father is trying to rape her younger sister and her uncles are terrorizing the clan. So Evelynn called the South-Western pack leader, Terrance, for assistance. Hopefully he will send someone soon to save her from the torture she is now under, literally.

Reid was sent by Terrance to check on the state of the pack where they had received a distress call. After saving the young girl from an attempted rape it turns out he killed their pack leader. Whoops. Now to report it to Terrance...joys. And now he is the new pack leader and has to get this group back into shape from its previous horrors. But at least the pretty little bear that called him is fun.

I enjoyed this book finishing it in just over 2 days around work and taking care of the baby. Sadly Evelynn is so sweet and innocent it is like she has no backbone. She shows that she does on occasion but the big strong male gets his way constantly and she just follows along for the most part. They are sweet together but I think them fighting against each other in the beginning of a story is always my favorite part. She is a strong willed female and he is all gruff and masculine but to each their own story wise.

I enjoyed listening to Reid's story, getting a look behind the curtain so-to-speak. When I first met Reid Bennett I disliked him with a passion. He seemed like a cruel, evil man. Don't get me wrong, I love a good man with a tortured soul as much as the next girl, but Reid just didn't seem to have any redeeming qualities. Now, though, he has shown that he has many different sides to him, and the qualities that I once hated about him, I now understand. All of this is due to his affection and bond with Evelyn. This story was interesting for many reasons, one being that a wolf shifter was made the leader of a clan of bears. He came in like Dirty Harry and cleaned house, getting rid of the evil presences that were destroying the lives of the clan members. I think he and Evie still have a lot of work to do before everything will be settled, but this story was a good start. Well done to the author for another job well done.

Bonus Story; Sunday Bear-becue;
This story was short but packed a punch. I went from happy, to sad, to hot, to OMG NO, to WTF, to overwhelming joy and ending on a laugh. The author did a phenomenal job packing so much into so little. Well done. I'm sad to see the end of the series, but I look forward to seeing what else the author has.

3.5 stars maybe even a 4.

I liked this more than the last book but the actual Romance felt much faster than previous books, which also makes sense because he's a wolf and senses it through smell instantly. There seemed to be a lot more 'sex' scenes on this. No one technically does the deed and mates until the end like the others but there was a lot of fooling around. It might have seemed like more because it was shorter so there was that and less of everything else? It was nice to not see anything from Mia and all the old bear drama from grayslake, even though some of the same issues (the drug) came to the town it was mostly all issues involving the clans family which I really liked. The town was pretty messed up, would have maybe expected more bad guys in the town because how was EVERYONE quiet just because they were scared? Just didn't quite fit I guess. Also wanted more town interaction because the little bit we got really improved the story.

I enjoyed this, normally I’m a little hesitant reading anything written before #metoo, because it was from that onwards that authors who previously wrote alpha=asshat and dominant=disrespecting women, started changing it up in a good way, to Alphas that are still strong and sexy but also have respect for the women around them and the whole “Mine”thing might sound sexy in erotic fantasy but it’s not very romantic if it doesn’t come with free will and choices made by the brain not “omg he’s hot gotta jump him”.
Frankly and I’m too old to enjoy being told where I belong or don’t belong as a woman. And while there is some of that in this story it’s very slight. Probably why CK remains my go to writer for when I want some sweet sexy and romantic she wrote strong h’s all along most of the time and very much so this time.

I am liking these books. One of my favorite things is that Celia didn't do what I call cookie cutter books in the series which is when the author takes the various characters and fits them into a certain way of talking and acting thus making one book much like the previous.

Reid stayed the same slightly psychotic wolf. His inner commentary is hilarious at times as he is coming in touch with his "feeling" self; although he is still cocky to the max. I also love how he is now put in charge of weir bears.

All in all a pleasant read.

Seduced by the Wolf (Paranormal Shapeshifter Romance, Bears of Grayslake Book 5)

The love story of Reid and Evelyn. Reid was order to check out the problems at Brookfield. While he was there he came upon the itan of Brookfield trying to rape a young girl and he kill me. So the Southeast itan make him the itan of the Brookfield. The first think he did was to kill two more of the inter circle. Can Reid become a leader for the bears of Brookfield and make Evelyn his mate? Great story.

Great read

I have really enjoyed reading and listening to this book.
The whole series has gripped me.
This one is definitely one of my favourites due to you getting a feel the new Itan is a broken wolf only to find out he has a bigger heart and good string morals once he finds his mate.
If you have ever suffered from any form of sexual assault this is not the book for you even though each and every victim gets their revenge and peace it may hit a little bit too close to home.
I have enjoyed this book and recommend to others.

This was fun. Reid has his own kind of crazy, and Evelyn digs it and has a bit of her own, and the two together made me want to giggle dementedly.

It's a pretty quick read, it took me a little under 2 hours. The earlier books in the series had a lot more going on with various Grayslake clan politics, but this one was shorter and less complicated. Reid just arrived and Evelyn hasn't been there long and the main problems for the Brookfield clan are easy to spot.

Freedom

Evelyn made a bid for freedom by making a call a help line requesting help from the Southeast regional Itan. Being under the thumb of her father and her crazy uncle's. In comes help in the name of Reid an line wolf who solves problems and lends a helping fist where it's needed.

Happy reader!

This was a really good story. I loved getting Reid's story. This book was so well written that I will definitely be looking for more from this author. The storyline was one that answers all the questions and gives us a awesome HEA yet leaves us new threads that I hope will be spun in a continuation of this series!
