Spider is a clever little trickster. No matter where he is, he seems to get into trouble! But he always learns a good lesson in the end. Spider stars in three short tales called "How the World Got Wisdom", "Why Spiders Live in Dark Corners", and "How Spider Helped a Fisherman" in this collaboration between Joyce Cooper Arkhurst and Caldecott-winning artist Jerry Pinkney, now abridged and redesigned for early readers (Passport to Reading, Level 4). Look for three more tales in The First Adventures of Spider.

This is another from the Time Life Planet Earth series. This one now focuses on storms - mainly hurricanes and Tornados but there are other references. Again it shows material and information that I would not have expected and certainly would not have stumbled across using the internet.
This volume however was certainly more US focused than the previous volumes - yes I think Hurricanes and Tornados are predominantly localised there but there are other storms such as cyclones which can be just as powerful (and devastating).
One of the things that I have been noticing though is the technology. Some aspects are very dated now however principles and their goals are very much as important now as then. It just goes to show how much we still have to learn and how long we have beens striving to achieve that.
One interesting fact I am sure everyone knows but which I learnt from this book - is that the devices at the centre of the Twister movie are actually based in science there is a device called TOTO for that very reason.
