In this modern age of the internet and instant information access this type of book is becoming less in demand and interest and I think that is an utter shame.
Yes with a few clicks you can have more than you could ever read about floods, their causes, the effects, their history - everything. But sometimes "everything" is too much. You have to scale it back and start somewhere.
This book is a perfect case in point - yes it looks at historical references and the effects humans have had and it implications - but also the fact that flooding has been going on for a lot longer than we have been around for - its part of nature.
However what appeals to me is that the authors have taken real life examples and woven them in to the story of the book giving first hand accounts of the events and where possible pictures (even their most harrowing).
This is a book that would never exist today and I for one think it is a shame that is the case. Yes there is a lot more out there to discover but we all have to start someplace.
