This installment in the Phantom Stallion series focuses a lot on the two foals who were born a day apart in a previous book. I loved seeing Sam trying to train Tempest herself even as her family helped more girls in the horse therapy program. I also liked that this book showed her learn to stand up to a peer who did something unwise that put some horses in danger, and that her family and friends acted as a team to help out. Looking forward to the next book!
Content Advisory: Sometimes kids don't make the right choice and face the consequences.
One of the girls in the horse program is a little flirtatious toward Jake (nothing age-inappropriate. She mainly just expresses that she thinks he's cute and talented), but Jake ignores her.
Slocum once again makes questionable choices. This time, even his own son doesn't trust him to do what's best.
This isn't a particularly memorable book from the Phantom Stallion series. I read it a few years ago, and (except for the ending) forgot about it. I found the whole series free on the Internet and thought I might as well finish it. Could be good for a laugh.
This disappointing book is just a week in the life of Samantha Forster. Not much happens. The cover gives way too much of the plot away. There's a new HARP girl, the return of Mikki, and Linc Slocum being a dick. This time, his son is a dick, too ... or is he?
The Phantom hardly appears in this. Neither do most of the other horses in the series. This is mostly a people book. You do get a mention about all of the horses and ponies on Linc's ranch, including Rachel's Morgan, who seemed to disappear a few books ago.
This is a series that really needs to be read in order, because there's almost zero backstory given. You can safely skip the previous book, Moonrise, though.
And there's no such thing as an albino horse, Terri Farley, you bloody idiot.

If it is a .5 star I round up
4 Stars
This was one of my favorite series from my childhood books 11-24 I did not have the pleasure of reading them during childhood I am reading them now.
When a friend needs Samantha's help with his new colt and its mother, she's torn. Sam wants what's best for the horses, but her friend's plan could put them in danger. So when the two horses go missing, Sam feels responsible. She's sure the mare has run away with the Phantom, but what will happen to the colt? Can Sam bring him home before it's too late?
I knew from his actions in previous books that Ryan Slocum wasn't trustworthy, but he really crosses a line here. No one in that family is reliable!
But the plot involving Shy Boots does make the HARP stuff more than bearable, for once. I liked seeing the girls helping with their knowledge of criminal ways, haha.
Some hints towards Brynna's pregnancy, too, in her illness. I don't know if I noticed the first time, but I'm noticing on this re-read.
