102 books1,664 followersCorrie ten Boom and her family were Christians who were active in social work in their home town of Haarlem, the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, they chose to act out their faith through peaceful resistance to the Nazis by active participation in the Dutch underground. They were hiding, feeding and transporting Jews and underground members hunted by the Gestapo out of the country. It is estimated they were able to save the lives of 800 Jews, in addition to protecting underground workers.
On Feb. 28, 1944, they were betrayed and Corrie and several relatives were arrested. The four Jews and two underground workers in the house at the time of the arrest were not located by the Nazis and were extricated by the underground 47 hours after they fled to the tiny hiding place (located in Corrie's room).
The ten Boom family members were separated and transferred to concentration camps. Corrie was allowed to stay with her precious sister, Betsy. Corrie's father (Casper), her sister (Betsy) and one grandchild (Kik) perished. Corrie was released in December of 1944.
These acts of heroism and sacrifice became the foundation for Corrie ten Boom's global writing and speaking career which began after she was released.
Ten Boom has received numerous awards for her writing and speaking. Notably, she was honored by the State of Israel for her work in aid of the Jewish people by being invited to plant a tree in the famous Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles, at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, near Jerusalem. She was also knighted by the Queen of the Netherlands in recognition of her work during the war, and a museum in the Dutch city of Haarlem is dedicated to her and her family.

Encouraging as always! Corrie Ten Boom was such a wise, Godly woman.

I have read several books by this author and I've been encouraged and inspired by every one of them. This book was definitely no exception.
What I Liked: There were several encouraging chapters in this book that I liked very much. This book is full of encouragement to keep our eyes on Jesus and not getting distracted by the world and its wisdom. This was an excellent reminder to look to the Bible for the answers we need in life and not fearing the end times, because our salvation in Jesus Christ is sure.
What I Didn't Like: One thing I didn't care for was some of the versions of the Bible that the verses were written in, but that's just a personal preference. :-)
I give this book 4 stars for an encouraging book by Corrie Ten Boom. I really enjoyed the stories that she shared in this book.

This isn't my favorite of Corrie ten Boom's books, but it was still very encouraging and worth my time. The last two chapters were the best.

A must-read for anyone who recognizes what's going on and where it's likely headed. Every bit as pertinent now as it was in 1969--more so as the Day approaches.

So excited to get this book! I feel like I uncovered a treasure when I found it! I love how Corrie is in touch with the Holy Spirit and emphasizes the importance of quickening our hearts to hear and recognize His voice. Yes, her book is simplistic and basic, but the truth is vital and necessary for this generation to hear. Especially powerful coming from one who walked so closely to her Lord and endured suffering for her commitment to Him.

This book is a short, powerful read. It's simple and packed full of Scripture, intermingled with anecdotes about Corrie's time in the concentration camps and her mission work.
Corrie Ten Boom's story is inspiring, and thus her call-to action carries the additional weight of her personal experience and endurance.
Corrie's audacity and boldness is especially inspiring if you embrace that modern believers walk in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I would highly recommend this book, and will add it to my list of books to re-read in the future.

I listened to the audio book narrated by Clare Staniforth. Once again Goodreads, does not acknowledge the existence of an audio version of this book. This happens quite frequently and I have no clue how to correct the issue.
I did enjoy the book. It is mostly a collection of stories about her ministry. Some very encouraging. My only opposition to the book was that in sharing the gospel, she never mentioned repentance. She did mention sin, so why not repentance? Just surprised and confused.

Corrie ten Boom has been an example, and will stay an example for the ones that read her books and hear her stories. God truly worked through her. This book definitely has encouraged me in my walk with God and to be more active in evangelisation. That our generation , may be the generation to finish the great commission.

Convicting & Edifying
I thank God for Corrie Ten Boom & her heart. What an example even now in the 21st century of what a life sold out for Christ looks like. May God be pleased to use His saints now as we are even closer to His return.
