A selection of stories, folk and fairy tales, and poems by such authors as Elizabeth Coatsworth, H. C. Andersen, R. L. Stevenson, Rachel Field, and others.
'Parade of Stories,' edited by Esther M. Bjoland, is a collection of rather old children's stories, rhymes and poems. It is richly illustrated and presented as almost a health tonic for the young reader by the Standard Education Society in 1960.
In "a message for parents," a former president of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers writes, "PARADE OF STORIES is a tool for building sympathetic understanding between the child and his elders. It is a tool that, when carefully used, will draw him away from infant self-centeredness into an admiration for smooth, softly colored pages; clear, easily read type; poems and stories that lie within the realm of his own understanding."

Sorry about that. I must have just nodded off there. Anyway, it really is a good book. The stories and poems, by two dozen or more authors, are simple but engaging, and the drawings and illustrations help draw even an adult reader into these worlds. Some of the subjects and writing styles might seem a little harsh to a modern reader. I always recommend that an adult first read any story that is meant for a child. This is part of my ongoing mission to read old books, especially children's books, before they are gone. I do own a copy of this book.
A children's story book filled with stories, rhymes and colourful pictures. Clowns, animals, witches, you will find all kinds of characters and creatures in here Magical on parts, you might as well relate to some parts. There are funny stories, exciting stories, and all kinds of stories!!! An amusing read for kids...
I’ve loved this book since my Nana would read it to me. I saved it and now I read it often with my son. He enjoys several stories within. Especially the Velveteen Rabbit and the the Boomers Fast Sooner Hound. So many stories.
