Dick and the Sidekick

Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper

Rate this book
Length: 3 hrs and 56 mins

Every good Dick needs a sidekick....

Actor Tom Lewis' world came crashing down when a honey trap and tabloid exposé outed him and put pay to his flourishing career. The housewives' favorite was most well-known for his role as Detective Fox in the quaint British series, Malmesbury Murders. But after the media speculation about his sexuality, the show is in hiatus, and Tom hasn't worked six months.

Now things are getting serious; money is running out, and Tom needs a job desperately. So when his agent offers him a seasonal acting job, he reluctantly agrees... and takes on the role of Santa for a top London department store. This decision changes Tom's luck.

When Tom overhears two unidentified store workers discussing a job to get a little Christmas bonus, he realizes the job is of the illegal sort. Now, Tom could call the police, but then again, wouldn't it be great for his flagging career if Detective Fox saved the day?

So Fox is on the case, and as every good Dick needs a sidekick, Tom decides a sexy young elf named Eli Mason will fit the role, in more ways than one.

Note: This is an M/M romantic comedy with gay sexual content.

When it comes to audios, my biggest discovery in 2018 was definitely the perfect concoction of Isobel Starling and Gary Furlong duo. 💜 So when I listen to Isobel’s stories, my expectations are not high, not even huge, they are gigantic, they ARE Herculean! 😁 And I’m happy to announce that she delivered it this time too. 👏

Granted, this book definitely deviates from her usual contemporary golden writing which is very sophisticated, poignant and emotional. This story is about a sleuthing TV actor and his hilarious sidekick finding love while trying to prevent a Christmas robbery. So this definitely borders on humor, snark and cozy mystery. 😊 And I must admit, I’m very pleasantly surprised by Isobel Starling’s brand of humor. It is funny and cleverly snarky but not overly done. 👍 I was enthralled once I started listening this audio. I was soooooo hooked. 😍 I didn’t even know how 4 hours passed because it’s just funny and interesting and well, did I say .. sexy? 😁*wink wink* 😉 I like how Isobel Starling explores new kind of BDSM kinks with each and every one of her stories. You always get something new, exciting, fun and kinky. And it’s definitely kinky and hot in this one too. 🔥And I loved how Tom finally decided to overcome his fears and went for Eli the cherry elf. And I loved all lovely secondary characters from this story. And Gary Furlong, oh, the guy can really REALLT narrates! 👏 He really elevated an already very fun and lovely story to a whole other level. So I need the other books in the series ASAP. I actually hope this is going to be one long-arse series because well, let’s admit, I’m hooked on detective fox and his charming side kick. 😉

I DNFed this one at about 40%, but it was difficult to push myself that far. I'm going to try to be kind here.

I struggled a lot with the lack of editing. I'm not a professional writer or anything close, but bad editing really detracts from the story. This story needed a few very hard passes through an editor to work out some kinks, especially comma usage, repetitive word usage, and awkward phrasing.

I also didn't warm to the characters, and I felt very "meh" about the story all the way through. Lots and lots of telling instead of showing.

I've read nearly 1,000 M/M romances, and it takes a lot to impress me now. This one didn't, I'm afraid.

Odd little book…

3.5 Stars.
This one from Isobel Starling was a little clunky. Sections ended abruptly, there were many POV’s, and a few editing errors.

Still, the bones of the story are good & I especially loved the narration by Gary Furlong.

Want to know what the story is about? Read the blurb—it does a good job breaking this down.

Fantastic! Leave it to Isobel Starling to combine intriguing characters, amazing chemistry, super hot kink, and an interesting storyline.

A very creative mystery set in London during Christmas time, Ms. Starling takes advantage and paints a wonderful picture of the local scene. Anyone who loves London will enjoy this one, and if you've never been, Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper is going to make you want to visit!

Performed by my all-time favorite narrator, Gary Furlong, nobody reads Starling better. His wealth of accents, comedic timing, and sultry-sexy voice combine to make this one a smashing success.

Good for the holiday season, or any darn time, Detective Fox is one for the top of the re-listen pile!

I had a lot of fun reading this Christmas novella. It’s got humor, steam, a bit of mystery and did I mention steam? Detective Fox definitely read like the first in a series to me. Not that that is a bad thing, but there was necessary setup to the characters, plus the mystery plus the lead in to further episodes to cover in a novella length story, so much was touched on without a ton of detail. Again, not a bad thing and I’m hoping the bits I want more of will be further explored in coming tales. If they are, then I can see this as being the kind of series you want to reread once you get to know everyone and the whole series will end up balanced and complete.

The mystery isn’t overly mysterious and for me that worked considering the detectives here were not detectives by any means, so anything more complex would have been too unbelievable considering the time that was dedicated to solving the Christmas crime. The fun was in Tom, Eli and their band of merry elves working together to figure out how to be heroes so they can get a little face time. Tom is an actor after all and while I wouldn’t exactly say he’d been disgraced, he did have a serious slump going on with his recent scandal in the press.

I liked reading about Eli and Tom together and feel like we are just at the beginning of something with them. That pacing worked well even though that is a big part of the bits I want more of. If their relationship evolves how I’m hoping, the progression of their togetherness will be better than any mystery, and then the mystery can be a fun vehicle to move these guys forward.

There is some delicious kink that the author tapped into that was a total treat and I most definitely need more of that. What I read was complete but because I loved the unexpected avenue the author went down with Tom and Eli, it felt like such a tease which has got me hooked and ready to read book two.

Honestly, how have I not listened to something narrated by Gary Furlong before? This audio was fantastic!

The story is well described by the blurb. Told in multiple POV, the plot requires some suspension of disbelief, but this is a fun, quirky Christmas mystery. While it may not be super plausible, it’s lighthearted and amusing, and well-polished by Furlong's narration.

There's an obvious love of the location (I just visited London for the first time and this brought me back in my memories), some kink if you're into it, a lot of humor and shenanigans - and Furlong pitches his performance to easily cover all the nuances of the story.

It's the first in a new series and ends with a strong HFN and the possibility for the main characters Tom and Eli to develop their relationship more fully as the series progresses.

Gary Furlong provides exceptional narration with a great use of character voices and accents, and terrific timing and pacing. He performs this story like an old radio show, and it's just purely entertaining to listen to.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more audios from Gary Furlong in the future.

3 stars for the story, 5 stars for the narration = 4 stars overall.

Ugh. 1.5 stars rounded down.

This was so awful, I don't even want to relive it to put my notes into some kind of cohesive review. So here they are raw:

Way too much telling. it was engaging from the outset but quickly fizzled as I was inundated with probably irrelevant new characters and way too much info about them.

The plot was superficial. The story didn't know what to be and where to go so it meandered all over the place.

Describing Eli's looks without him commenting on it or seeing himself in the mirror or somethng took me out of his head into omniscient narrator and that didn't work for me. That happened many times but wasn't done well at all. Omniscient narrator is hard and it doesn't work if you keep switching back and for from third person to omniscient. It comes across as head hopping.

I don't like either character. They were jerks to try to take on the mystery themselves in order to become famous, for personal gain rather than for a legitimate reason. Both were quite arrogant and stuck up.

I find it hard to believe that an actor on a hot show with six seasons under his belt would lose his audience by being outed. He didn't have sex in a public restroom or get accused of rape. Lots of people have been outed and done just fine. And gay men are still sex symbols. Matt Bomer and Neil Patrick Harris anyone?

And then the mystery: the crime and how the perpetrators y would do it was all spelled out in excruciating detail by them and the MCs just overheard stuff. They didn't have to figure out anything except a couple of names. They overheard names and places, even what bus number a wife took. Everything they tried to do to figure out something worked out and they easily convinced people to help them and always found all the info they needed.

No store would be careless enough to leave a 32,000 pound ring unwatched.

What was with all the "J" names? It was ridiculous.

The drinking game they played was confusing and made no sense. You didn't get punished for messing up. You got punished for the others succeeding. How is that fun?

He dropped his cigarette butt in the gutter, not only littering but making sure the poisons got into the ground water.

The bdsm was completely out of the blue and detracted from the story.

When Tom was on location, he wouldn't . It made no sense that he would be so bold with his kink after the betrayal only six months previously. He didn't really know Eli and already he was ready for the power exchange (as he refered to it so he was scene-ready) that soon. Tom didn't even know if the guy would enjoy the kink since Eli clearly had never done it before. And then only after they'd been playing for quite a while did Tom ask Eli if Tom could trust him and then thinks to himself it was a big risky question so early in their "tryst." No, it was a bit late.

They kept talking about mundane things during the sex and interrupting it to do something else. It could have been hot but I finally just skimmed it because it was boring.

I really doubt an actor that famous would be able to follow someone inconspicuously with no one noticing.

The fact that people outside the US have a Black Friday is hilarious. Do they even know how it came about?

That was a very sudden ending and a weird HFN.

Dumb dumb dumb. Too bad because the synopsis sounded good and the opening scene had promise.

Oh, God! Where do I start? This novella was all kinds of fun.

Beggars can’t be choosers and Tom has realized this after he was outed as gay and is facing unemployment.

He’s an actor and he loves it but, he has reached the point where he can’t allow his pride to win and refuse a well paid job just because it might make him look silly.

If this means playing Santa Claus for one of London’s top stores, so be it. He’s still not ready to give up being Detective Fox, though and, when the opportunity presents itself for him to get into character on more time, he grabs it with both hands.

There’s a bonus, too. The detective’s sidekick is one hot elf who knows how to handle whatever is thrown his way and more. Things are about to get messy.

Add Isobel Starling and mix with humor, mystery, action, suspense and just a sprinkle of drama, and you’ll have an explosive story which will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions from beginning to end, and leave you breathless and asking for more.

Follow Eli and Tom’s story as they try to save the day, and navigate what is the beginning of a tentative relationship, all while playing Santa and his elf for hordes of over excited children and exhausted parents the week before Christmas.

I cannot wait to read the next book because this has got to be a series. Right, Ms. Starling? You cannot spring two smart, sexy and fun as hell men on me and leave it at a novella. It’s not fair.

Thank you for another awesome and entertaining read. You rock, as always!

Happy Reading!

Tom, an actor who was famous for being a cop in a tv show is currently out of work following a sex scandal. To make ends meet he takes the position of Santa at a large London store.
There he meets Eli, one of the elves and the 2 start on a relationship.
However, this takes a backseat to the mystery of the planned theft from the store.
I liked this book, some very hot sexy times. The idea of Tom and Eli solving the crime was nice if not very realistic. The final chase scene was funny.
I will probably read more of this series when its written.

I devoured all of Isobel Starling’s Shatterproof Bond audiobooks earlier this year. As I was searching for holiday-themed listens, I didn’t hesitate to queue this one up.

This was a fun mix of romance, slight mystery, and hijinks. I’m rather fond of age gap and at more than 20 years this fit the bill. (Tom is 45 & Eli is 24.). Tom is a successful TV actor who was outed by a hookup and is pushed into playing Santa in order to “clean up” his image. Eli is a theatre graduate hired as a “main elf” at a high end department store.

This is short at 4 hours - but I enjoyed what Starling did with the time she had and how all the pieces came together. Tom & Eli have instant attraction, share some hot & kinky sex, and uncover a shoplifting scheme.

It was a quick & enjoyable listen.

Gary Furlong really brings Starling’s writing to life. He does an amazing job with accents, personalities, and pacing. He’s consistently a favorite narrator for me.

Wow! I just finished this cute little romp and it left me smiling from ear to ear. In this story we have some well rounded and fun characters.

First there is struggling actor Eli Mason, a fresh young unemployed drama student who is part of an acrobatic juggling duo. He and his goofy best friend/acrobatic partner Jared go through an audition to become Christmas elves for the highly sought after positions in a famous department store in London.

Lo and behold, but to their surprise, who will be playing the jolly Santa himself but newly outed, and on indefinite hiatus, Tom Lewis, or ‘Detective Fox’ the beloved star of the television series, ‘The Malmesbury Murders’. After having been caught in a honey trap by an undercover reporter/hookup, it seems that many of the actor’s adoring female fans have abandoned him.

When the famous ‘Santa’ and the quirky ‘Elf’ get together, sparks fly. But that is not all! We are taken through various parts of London and given little history lessons too, which I found very enjoyable.

This story had me giggling, and thoroughly enjoying the wit, humor and byplay of all the supporting cast as well as the main characters. For a short little holiday story, this one was loads of fun, and I so needed the bit of lighthearted comedy this story brings. Do yourself a favor and give it a go. You can’t go wrong with this combination!!

Every book I listen to by this narrator, I find myself being more and more impressed. He is turning into an autobuy for me. I love his British, Scottish, and even his American accents. So far, everything he performs sounds authentic to me. I would definitely listen to him again.

Narrator Gary Furlong and Author Isobel Starling pair up once again for another winner! This story is an absolute hoot, with a bit of kink and sexy times to go with a fun little mystery caper.

Holy hell, that was fun!

Yeah, I have to admit this started off a bit slow, but once the tale started focusing on the specifics of the "caper" the story really took off. I love the almost slapstick quality found here; during the chase scene I mentally pictured it as a kind of Benny Hill homage...and OMG to find out that someone had filmed it, sped up the action, and set it to Yakety Sax proved I was on the right track. In addition, the multiple movie/TV/etc. references and quotes made the characters feel like they were people I'd totally hang out with. (And if I ever get a chance to play that Accented Quote drinking game, I'm so going to own it! Anyone sitting next to me better beware.)

But don't let the humor turn you off from reading (or listening to) it. Jeezus, the sex scenes were smoking hot! I've often mentioned how much I like it when the older MC takes a submissive role and with all the edging? I was fanning myself. For realz. Also, legit LOLing because during some seriously sizzling sex play there was a bit where the hunt to get the key for Tom's cock cage (!) was just priceless.

On the downside? I know it was necessary to the plot, but I always find the multiple bit-player PsOV to be a bit distracting. That's the only thing that kept it from being a 4.5 Star read.

On the plus side? Gary Furlong nailed the accents and totally made the experience all the more enjoyable. I don't know why I haven't listened to more books that he's narrated.

I'm really hoping for more of these books, soon! Seriously, this is one great Holiday book you should be itching to read.

Tom, a TV detective, has been dumped from his show but his agent manages to find him work as Santa at a leading London department store ( a mix of Harrods and Hamleys). JJ and Eric., a duo who have just finished at RADA, are elves at the same store. When Tom gets wind of a crime being planned he sees it as a way to get back to his show. He and Eric begin a relationship and together plot to bring the bad guys down.
Enjoyed the final chase scene but thought the basic premise a bit unrealistic. A good read but I doubt that I will read further.

A fun read. A bit ridiculous at times, but still made me snort with the cheesy scenes, especially the big final chase at the end. Story was a little rough starting. And I didn’t really feel any connection build between the two MCs. But once they did hook up, it sizzled nicely. Overall, it was lighthearted and fun.

This romantic comedy is indeed a caper.

Dictionary definition of caper:

a playful skipping movement:
an illicit or ridiculous activity or escapade
a light-hearted, far-fetched film, especially about crime

The novella is a cross between a Christmas pantomime production and the BBC’s Midsomer Murders TV show, except there are no murders in this. But there is a TV detective, who is intent on solving a would-be crime in an attempt to deflect publicity away from his scandalous private life and hopefully help him retain his role for the next TV series. If you read the story with this in mind, you’ll enjoy the ride.

In real life if you overheard about a possible major scam most people would go straight to the police rather than trying to hunt down the suspects themselves. Yet the major part of the plot has Santa Tom and Eli Elf, also known as the Detective and his Sidekick, and a couple of their friends act as amateur sleuths to save the large department store from an internal heist.

The story takes place mostly in an imaginary department store that is a cross between the world famous Hamleys toy shop and Harrods. Plus there’s visits to London pubs and streets, so if you enjoy reading stories set in the city this will be a treat.

The blossoming romance as such is understated in this story. It’s obvious the two men are attracted and have feelings for each other, but have yet to voice their wish for an exclusive relationship. I wasn’t surprised that Isobel also manages to weave in Tease and Denial kink into her story and makes it fun. The image of Tom and Eli's sex scene overlooking the Thames and adding more stars to the night sky was delightful.

I’ve said this before for other stories, but the author should make use of a professional editor/proofreader as numerous errors let down the quality of her finished story. Missing words, misuse of apostrophes and punctuation in dialogue particularly need checking. Head-hopping often occurs within the same scene, and sometimes the same paragraph, without any obvious indication of a change in point of view.

Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper is the first story in the series, and although it ends happily for the duo, I’m hoping more tales will follow so we find out where Tom and Eli’s relationship goes as they solve future mysteries together.

Overall, a quirky Christmas mystery. What happens is not entirely plausible, but it’s fun and just as it says in the title… a caper.

Have you ever had the pleasure of having a real good chocolately and sugary advent calendar?
The one's that makes you just want to open all the boxes in one setting and devour the treats in 1 go? And it not even being Christmas yet?
Than you know what I am talking about when telling you about my experience in reading Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper.
Just like with the Advent Calendar, the anticipation of what would be behind the carton, is had the same feeling whilst reading the story of Tom and Eli.
There are so many big and little treasures to be found, that I found my self reading this book almost in 1 setting. I just had to find these gems.
The name's that are hidden in the story? A few of them being, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La la and PO. Seriously these names in an adult MM book? Yes, and why?
Well find out for your self really it's hilareous I tell you.
But beside's the hidden name treasures there is more to this book.
More shenanigans are being pulled of by Tom and Eli, and their friends JJ and Tamika.
Also the personal growth of Tom and Eli. Written beautifully, I almost whish I'd be there in Tom's apartment when , dang this is going to be x rated sorry. I'll say no more.
Going back to the story line, the detective story enterwines so well with the ongoings in Hamblings, the preparations of Santa's winterworld and the blossoming romance of Tom and Eli. I really enjoyed this and found myself being happy.
The last part of the book was the part that I most definitely had to finish reading in 1 go, No dinner to be had, kids go make your self a sandwhich. I could visualize the written scene's so well. I almost fell of my chair as I was laughing so hard.
So if you are looking for a Christmas story that will make you laugh, give you a bit of suspense and week in your knees, please buy this book.
Definitely a 5* rating from me.

Detective Fox & the Christmas Caper is a romantic comedy that is light, fluffy and very cute. With so many holiday stories coming out I like the variety and this one is very creative.

This novella had a unique quality to it. Sort of like the old fashioned mystery shows. Tom & Eli (The Detective and the sidekick) are trying to catch people involved in a heist that hasn't happened yet. They even use the help of some of their friends.

There's a quirkiness to this tale that was a lot of fun to read. A perfect holiday novella that will for sure make you chuckle a few times and enjoy the sexy times between Tom and Eli as well as the cleverness.

There was a bit of head hopping however that I found to be frustrating at times and forced me to have to back track and reread. Often finding myself reading in the wrong person's head. It did take me out of the story a few times.

This is a happy for now tale. A sweet story to help get you into the holiday spirit.

I should’ve really loved this. Mysteries are my favorite, I have loved everything else I’ve read by Isobel Starling, and Gary Furlong is an outstanding narrator. Instead, I found myself kind of bored and despondent throughout the story. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t really hold my attention that well.

Alright, so, this is one of those times when you get a book and you don’t get round to it whilst it’s in the right season so you leave it and think you’ll enjoy it when it’s more relevant. After that, you kind of forget what section you picked it out of, and you just think “aw, this’ll be a nice way to get festive”.

So, you can imagine the look on my face when I’m driving along, and suddenly I’m listening to a very clear description of two men engaged in sexual intercourse whilst one is shouting “OH YES DADDY”. I can only imagine other drivers saw the look on my face followed by me absolutely wetting myself behind the wheel as I drove through my home city of Sheffield.

So, this was a new experience for me, but I actually really enjoyed it. I’d completely forgotten it was listed under LGBT Romance on Audible when I put it on, but even if I hadn’t, I don’t think I fully understood what I’d downloaded at the time either!

This is a really fun book, the characters are fantastic, even the intentionally annoying ones and it’s performed brilliantly. I’m actually really pleased I listened to it rather than reading it because it made for a bigger surprise and some very entertaining car journeys. I even learned how a male chastity device works – so it’s educational too!

The story follows actor Tom Lewis following a fall from fame when he was outed by the media as Gay. The former Heart Throb plays Detective Fox on a Murder Mystery show “Malmsbury Murders”, basically a Midsomer Murders type affair, but he is now looking for work and his agent manages to land him a Santa role at a shopping centre. Not impressed with this score, Tom goes ahead and takes the role having been promised the opportunity to fill his own cast of Elves. That’s when we meet Eli. Eli is half of an acrobatic double act with his friend JJ and at their appearance in the story we get to hear all about what they look like in a skin tight suit – so if that’s your jam, yes, you’ll get to hear about what’s.. ahem.. down there.

The story then kicks off into the best romantic comedy I think I’ve ever read. There’s a lot of sex, it’s basically erotica, but the story surrounding it is simply hilarious and I really enjoyed it despite not being a fan of romance or erotica. The festive theme together with the ups and downs of the story make for something fantastically entertaining and what started as an “oh go on then, I’ll see what it’s about” turned into me asking the Author, having happened across her on Twitter, where book two was at.

I absolutely want to see what happens next for the characters in this book, this was entertaining from the description of the characters, to the kinky bedroom scenes and into the action of the book as the characters turn super sleuth to get Tom’s career back on track.

I will say, it is entirely understandable if people don’t want to give this a go, and definitely don’t give it to your kids – it’s not that sort of Christmas adventure! Not everyone is comfortable reading about sex and particularly BDSM, this one actually does have a bit of BDSM in it as opposed to the rather vanilla fantasies of the Anne Summers shopper who went in thinking it was simply a lingerie shop and came out with a strange but interesting rope (that’s a whip sweetie), but if you’re comfortable reading about sex and a little bit of kink then you’re in for a treat. Granted, this is not my usual choice but I am glad I gave it a go because it was just so entertaining.

This is Book 1 of the Dick and the Sidekick Series and currently the only one, however Starling has said that she will be continuing the series so I’ll be looking forward to what happens next.

So, poor Tom Lewis, who, up till now, hid the fact that he was gay, and played a brash, steely on screen detective, happens to be the total opposite when it comes to letting his guard down in the bedroom—so much so that he has never really found the one younger man who he can not only trust but depend on to keep his inner submissive happy. When he is forced, due to dwindling funds, to take on the role of Santa at a posh department store, little does he know that one of Santa’s elves is going to ring his Christmas bells, and then some. Eli is young, a fresh graduate of an elite acting school and an acrobat who is in desperate need of some income. When he discovers that the Santa to his elf is none other than THE Tom Lewis, he is over the moon—and then he discovers more about the man than any tabloid could ever reveal. To say it is love at first sight is going a bit too far, but the sparks are definitely flying, and when Tom uncovers a theft ring that is plotting to spoil the store’s Christmas Eve, Eli is all in as the sidekick Tom has never had but always wanted.

I cannot say much more about this little Christmas gem than has already been revealed by the blurb, other than I just adored this couple—Tom and Eli. The fact that they were more than twenty years apart in age never really threw me; in fact, the age thing completely disappears when these two get together and discover that deep down they are darn near perfect for each other. Tom is your classic onscreen tough guy—a detective who is the heartthrob of many a housewife. That reputation is nearly destroyed when he is outed by a casual hookup that sells his story to the society rag he just started writing for. Now Tom is scrambling to find work while waiting for the network to re-sign him for another season—something that is looking iffy at best. When Eli comes along, two things happen; first, Tom is smitten—’cause the guy makes him laugh and it’s been a long time since anyone made Tom smile. Second, Eli is willing to be the dominant partner in their casual affair—which melts just about every one of Tom’s defenses and gives Eli a way into his heart.

With a taut little mystery to unravel and a relationship that is threatening to be more than just casual, Tom and Eli are moving at high speed toward busting the bad guys and possibly falling in love. Throw in some lighthearted humor, a few memorable side characters and you have the perfect Christmas love story, complete with action and adventure and just a little kink thrown in for good measure.

I have been a fan of author Isobel Starling from the start, and this latest Christmas novella seals the deal for me. This author is now on auto-buy for me, and deservedly so, for her writing just gets better and better! Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper should be on the top of your Christmas reading list!

When the bad guys run amuck, it’s time for Santa to take matters in his own hands..
Actor Tom Lewis is down on his luck. After being outed by a newspaper, he is having trouble finding work. Even the producers of his very successful character Detective Fox are thinking about replacing him. To make ends meet, he accepts a seasonal role playing Santa in one of London most exclusive department store. What seems a last resource becomes a career saving opportunity when he discovers a plot amongst the employees to rob at the store during the holidays. Instead of going to the police, Tom decides to investigate on his own, with the help of three very clever and resourceful fellow actors playing elves. The sundry team sets to prevent the felony, with hilarious results…
This was a great seasonal story, with endearing characters and an entertaining plot. I loved the budding relationship between Eli the elf and Tom. Although as a general rule I find it difficult to believe in romance based on insta-attraction, this was different, as Eli had had a crush on Tom for some time. They match each other needs perfectly, and their association both in the bedroom and out of it has very satisfactory results… The rest of the characters are likeable as well. The plot is simple but it works, all in all making for a very amusing story.
As for Gary Furlong’s narration, I enjoyed it a lot. His performance is smooth and the light tone which pervades makes it very easy to follow. He had me smiling most of the time, and even laughing out loud with Tom and Eli’s harebrained adventures…
I hope there is more of Tom and Eli on the near future. I would certainly continue listening to their stories, if given the chance
Very entertaining

i absolutely loved Eli and Tom together in the delightful read! I read this story in one sitting because i had such fun reading it and i had to know how it ended. I found myself laughing out loud in several spots and my heart was hurting in others. The chemistry was off the charts and their dialogue was wonderful! i enjoyed getting to know Tom and Eli from their perspectives, i loved the skeptical grump that Tom was and the hopeful openness that Eli brought to the relationship. The physical and emotional connection that these two develop was authentic and smoking hot with a touch of kink.. just perfect!

The setting was crafted on an idea that resonated with me, the retail extravaganza with the crime being well plotted and very possible. The story developed naturally and i was fully on-board with their reality of trying to solve a crime and saving the Detective Fox's career. The author weaves a very enjoyable tale of conspiracy with bad guys and good guys trapped in a bad situation. The supporting cast of characters in the book were interesting and i was either rooting for them to find a way out of their situation or i was frowning and wanting them to face some really negative karma.

This very talented author has offered us another winner and i highly recommend that you treat yourself to this fun read! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A fun holiday story narrated by the amazing Gary Furlong. Tom's agent informs him his network is considering dropping his long-term stint as Detective Fox and the only work available is a stint as Santa in London's most exclusive department store. Instead of the usual gig, there will be actors hired as elves and a performance of sorts will take place so Tom won't have to deal directly with sticky fingers or snotty kids. But what he ends up with is a cute elf named Eli, who not only does acrobatics, but whose sexual preferences match Tom's. And then they discover a ring of thieves are working in the store using innocent people, who think they are secret shoppers, to do their dirty work for them.

It's Detective Fox on the job then, along with his sidekick Eli, who solves the mystery after a few death defying escapes and a merry chase through the streets. It's fun and creative, and both sexy and kinky as well. Thanks to Hoopla I was able to enjoy the audio version so multitasking with the audio while making Christmas cookies was even more fun.
