Dragon Prow Shadow

Rate this book
Monsters under the bed, everyone has them; unfortunately for Robert, his are a rowdy bunch and they keep him awake at night. With the aid of a night light and some soothing nature sounds to keep him company, a new world opens up, bringing new possibilities. When ocean waves are lapping gently against the side of his bed, he is surprised to find himself on a Viking longboat, though not quite as surprised as the Vikings. When he inadvertently helps to see off a Loki-Spawn, the Vikings claim him as their lucky charm.

By now, you might be thinking is this for me, it is, it’s for everyone. It’s about someone overcoming their fears and winning the day, it’s about escaping to new adventures and facing whatever comes at you.

Because sometimes, all you really need is a small person’s big imagination.

My review:
“Dragon Prow Shadow gives us a glimpse into the fears and hopes of Robert; a sensitive, almost timid, schoolboy turned nocturnal adventurer. His parent’s well intentioned attempts at providing a soothing night-time ritual propel Robert into a perilous parallel world.
A real page turner of a debut novel. I’m looking forward to the next one!”

My son, Nathaniel (10), also loved it and said:
“A great idea for a story and very well told. I loved Ragnar and his powerful spells, although sometimes they’re more frightening than the threat they’re meant to deal with! Robert, the reluctant hero, moves smoothly between real life and dreams, taking us with him on his journey of Vikings, dragons and talking heads. All that, and a great ending too!”

Extremely enjoyable.

This is such a surprising story. Hugely enjoyable. I would recommend this to adult and child alike, and especially any teachers out there studying vikings with their students. Filled with amazing insights into viking ways, life, traditions and lore. Robert is transferred back and forth through time in a historic adventure with a group of Vikings, who consider him to be their good luck charm and a world Walker. All the characters are truly engaging and you are swept along with viking life. Looking forward to the next installment of Roberts adventures.
