Kennedy…Kennedy…Kennedy…Why can’t I get the sad, lonely woman out of my head? It doesn’t matter now because the night after my best friend, Jaycee Jennings gets married, I get wasted and wake up engaged to another woman. Right before it’s time for me to tie the knot, Kennedy returns…Well, actually, it’s her beaten, broken, and nearly lifeless body I find lying in the woods. Do I listen to my head and choose to marry Staci, the woman I’ve hooked up with for months? I care about her, so maybe I can learn to love her one day. Or, do I listen to my heart? My heart tells me to stand beside Kennedy and help her fight her demons.
Like a figment of my imagination, Josh Maddox passes through one night. We sat and talked while we shared a bottle of liquor. Then, he held me in his arms while I slept on his chest. I opened my eyes and he was gone. He came back when I needed him most. He saved me. I know I can beat my demons and this terrible drug addiction as long as Josh Maddox is my vice.
If anyone can show just cause why this couple cannot be joined together in matrimony…
Josh is engaged to Staci, but he doesn’t love her or even remember asking her to marry him. One night Josh meets Kennedy and helps her. They have amazing chemistry and he can’t stop thinking about her.
This book broke my heart. I found myself wanting to help Kennedy, I can understand why Josh wanted too. But at the same time I wanted to shake her. Wake up woman! 😂
This is the third book in the series, I haven’t read the first two.. honestly it didn’t matter. This book was wonderful. Lisa is a fabulous writer. I look forward to reading more of her work!
Is it possible to fall in love with someone you only met once?
Josh is a tattoo artist who works at his brother Jeff’s studio, Running Colors. He likes working there but he really wants a job where he can help people, so as soon as he has enough money he wants to take some time to find out what he really wants to do. One thing he doesn’t want to do is marry his sometime girlfriend, now fiancee, Staci. He still doesn’t remember asking her to marry him, and he certainly doesn’t love her. If he was being honest with himself his heart belongs to Kennedy, a troubled but beautiful woman he comforted one night when she needed him. He waited until she fell asleep before he left, and he never saw her again. She is always on his mind and when he went to visit his childhood church as a possible location for his wedding, it wasn’t Staci he saw walking down the aisle, it was Kennedy. His feelings for her have remained strong and he knows in his heart that he can bring her back from the darkness and make her whole once again.
Kennedy’s life is so bleak that she sometimes thinks that closing her eyes forever would finally bring her peace. The drugs have taken over every aspect of her life and she barely remembers her life without them. She misses her sister terribly but the men she works for would never allow her to leave because she is too valuable to them. When the drugs wear off she starts remembering her past, and it is just too hard to deal with, especially when it comes to Josh. She spent a few hours with him one night in a dark alley behind the strip club where she worked. He was funny, sexy and so handsome that she wondered if she was dreaming. Josh hadn’t judged her for being a stripper and he actually listened to what she had to say. They fell asleep in the alley and Josh was gone when she woke up, but he had left his number in her phone. Maybe her dream of a life with Josh will help to free herself from the pain that surrounds her.
What happens while Josh is at the church and how will that affect his upcoming marriage? Can he protect himself from danger he never saw coming?
Will Kennedy admit that she has a drug problem and let people help her? Will her dream of a life with Josh come true?
I am so excited that Kennedy and Josh finally have their story in “Free Falling”, the third book in the Playing It Safe Series. Kennedy never felt worthy of anyone’s love and it was up to Josh to show her that he would always be there for her. “Free Falling” is an emotional and passionate story that shows us that it is possible to emerge from the darkness to a life full of light.
"No...nothing about my life's been easy, Josh, but if I had to pick out the easiest parts...it was all you."
Wow! I could not put this book down. I finished it in one sitting! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next! My heart broke for Kennedy and all she was dealing with. It broke for Josh as he tried to help her and make difficult decisions to stay true to his heart. I wanted to shake her, slap him, and hug them both all at the same time.
Kennedy Powell has made a mess of her life. Drugs have taken her over and she sees no way out except one. Death. Tied to the man that bought her, Jayson Phoenix, she knows there is no escape. Until Josh. He sat with her when she was at her lowest. Took care of her. When she woke up he was gone but he never left her heart. Now, he's rescued her again, after Jayson leaves her for dead and for some reason she can't fathom, wants to help her. She doesn't deserve it. She doesn't deserve him. But, she wants to be the woman he should deserve. Can she let him in? Can she accept his help? When Jayson finds her again, will she be strong enough to do what she needs to in order to protect Josh?
Joshua Maddox is engaged to Staci. He doesn't remember proposing. He doesn't love her. She was just someone he had fun with a few times at The Grind. Trying to convince himself that he could love her is pointless, when all he can think about is Kennedy. He took care of her one night, but since then he's thought of her countless times. While visiting his hometown in Kentucky to check out the church for the wedding, the last person he expects to see is Kennedy - and certainly not left for dead in the woods behind the building. Determined to help her, he realizes that his feelings for Kennedy are more than just concern. He loves her. But, when her past and his past intertwine in the most horrific way, when her life is threatened, there is only one choice he can make and it will destroy them both.
I love this entire series, but I think this one is the best one so far! Can't wait for the next one!
The Playing It Safe Series has slowly broken me little by little with each book. Free Falling is Book three in the series and takes you on Kennedy’s journey to overcome her past. The book is raw, jam packed with emotions, deals with addiction, full of suspense and then some.
From page one I was sucked back into the storyline and drawn to Kennedy. For someone who has been through so much her strength and courage was something that I admired. She was brought down time after time but at the end of the day tried very hard to not let it bring her down. Josh, oh where to start with him. I loved how protective he was. I loved how he knew what he wanted and even with obstacles in his way he didn’t let that stop him from ultimately getting what he wanted.
I couldn’t put this book down. I needed answers and I needed them right then and there. My heart was in shambles at times - like heart sitting in throat, holding your breathe waiting to see what is going to happens kind of shambles. Oh the anxiety of it all. Seeing Jaycee, Grant, Jon, Lindsey and Lucas again was also great. Getting an update on where they were in life put a smile on my face.
Free Falling is a must read. If you haven’t read the other two books start there.
This is the third book in this series. Lisa I absolutely love your writing. I absolutely love this one. Lord women you blew me away with this one. I absolutely love Kennedy and Josh. I so want more from them. This book was not at all what I expected. Not at all . I love how no matter what Josh wants to help Kennedy with everything that she is going through. Hell or high water he is going to be there for her especially after what happens to her in his home town. I absolutely love these two together. The chemistry is off the charts amazing. Lisa did such an amazing job telling the story of these two. It was not only heart wrenching at times but warm and loving. I absolutely love a great book with a great story line that keeps you hooked from the beginning to the end. This is that book. It hooked me and kept me there until the very end. I so want more from this couple. I feel that there is more to their story. But I can say that this is my favorite one out of the three in this series. I must have these three books. Lisa did an amazing job with this one. So very well written with amazing characters and a great story line.
Free Falling is the 3rd book in this series and I again I absolutely loved it!! I just fell in love with Josh and Kennedy....and there rollercoaster to be together.
Every book I read of Lisa’s I fall more and more in love with her writing, she puts so much emotion in her stories and has you on the edge of the seat, I honestly loved this nail biting story.
Josh and Kennedy path to be together is definitely not a smooth one, but you can’t mistake the unbelievable chemistry between them, you just know they need each other in their lives, you pray throughout the whole book for there HEA!!
I felt so much emotions in this story, my heart was breaking at some points and I just wanted to jump the book and punch some of the characters and fight for them myself.
This definitely deserves 5 🌟, for me it deserves so much more, I can’t wait to read more from this series. I am completely hooked on them all.
Lisa Gerke has really hit her stride in this third book in the Playing It Safe series. Her writing keeps improving with each book. This book had it all, action and suspense, romance and a bit of mystery. The push and pull of this story was great. Josh and Kennedy went through so much to finally get the HEA they both deserved. Their road was a rocky one, filled with obstacles and roadblocks. Just about the time I thought they would finally be happy together, another road block popped in their way. I loved that Kennedy was a fighter. Despite her addiction and issues, she continued to look out for others, even if it meant putting herself in danger. Josh was so strong, and he never gave up on Kennedy even when she gave him plenty of reason to. Lisa Gerky has quickly become one of my automatic one-click authors, and I look forward to many more stories from her.
My heart aches for Kennedy but she puts herself in these situations and doesn’t care if others get hurt. I know she had a rough life but when is enough a freaking enough! I love this series and can’t wait for more from Lisa, once you read book one you are hooked for life! Josh and Kennedy are good for each other, he is a strong man for dealing with problems that aren’t even his, he could have walked away….. OMG, you will never guess who is behind the current situation……I almost fell off my chair Staci is the definition of bitch!
Josh was a tattoo artist that felt like he never really belonged. He always had a desire for somthing else something more. He was going through life instead of living it.
Kennedy was forced into a hard life a life she didnt want to belong in but was forced into. She could never accept help. Because she was scared it would put her sister into more danger than she was in before.
These to come together but not without their own personal demons and skeletons they dont know about. Awesome book keeps you reading and wanting more.
