The road to Avalon - the mystical home of all magic - is finally within reach! Its location is revealed on a fairy map, a sparkling globe of wondrous power, that Kara now holds. She must use the map for the good of all the worlds, but the Dark Sorceress wants it too, and will stop at nothing to sieze it. Trial By Fire is the sixth book in Web of Magic , a twelve book fantasy series by Rachel Roberts for middle grade readers. Through their magical journey, the teenage heroines discover who they really are . . . and run into plenty of good guys, bad guys, and cute guys. Out of print for two years, Seven Seas is pleased to return the Avalon series to print in editions targeted for today's manga-readers, with new manga-style covers and interior illustrations.

In trial by fire Emily Adrian and Kara have to go to Aldenmor, which is in desperate need of magical help. They travel along the magic web together but obviously they get separated. You meet new creatures in this book like mer folk and even elves, Ozzie’s kind. The dark sorceress has an evil plan, she’s built three gigantic power crystals to hold a lot of magic, she’s trapped the mist wolves inside the crystals! Because as everyone knows, magic attracts magic. I loved seeing a Drake again, apparently he’s grown a substantial amount since Adrian last saw him. I also loved how Kara tricked the skultum into revealing his true name out loud. Kara Meets B*tween in this book which is apparently a fairy band, they tell her that if she tricks the skultum into saying his name out loud, all his powers will be hers to control. She uses the adorable little dragonflies in a word game to get him to reveal it, very clever. I love those adorable dragonflies, I’d love to have them as pets. You think the dark sorceress would just give up, evil always loses, especially against such good people and animals with powerful bonds. They was definitely more adventure in this book as opposed to the fifth book. And it’s the first time all three girls are in Aldenmor at the same time. Unfortunately a beloved character does die in this book, so very sad. I absolutely loved little Dreamer, a mist wolf pup, he’s too funny when he tries to act tough. Time to read book seven. This one has baby unicorns in it.

I remember this being one of my first childhood heartbreaks in a book. Reading it now as an adult wasn’t even a fraction as sad, but those childhood memories came back and it was nice to remember.

This is the midpoint of the story that catalysts the more advanced plot and more intricate magic system. I don’t remember it taking this long to introduce some elements (with some still yet to be introduced), but it’s nice to read a series that unveils it’s worldbuilding over a long period of time rather than info dumps all at once book one. I find that very rare in fantasy adventure.

And I KNOW this is middle grade, but if I have to read Ozzie “spLooF!” or “gAacK!” one more time I’m going to kill a ferret.

I don’t think I actually read this one when I read the rest of the series, because I knew a major character was going to die and I didn’t want to be sad. But now I have read it, and now I am sad. This is the “big battle” where the girls are tested and have to face down the evil Dark Sorceress. Adriane and Emily do what they always do--fight and heal things, but Kara learns some new stuff. Mostly, they win because of the power of friendship and love, which pleases a big sap like me. A character does indeed die, and I cried. The writing sucks, but the plot is really good.

Despite her concerns after being manipulated by the Skultum, Kara is ready to join Emily, Adriane and their fairy friends to save the Mistwolves and finally heal Aldenmor, and no degree of separation will keep them from facing the Sorceress...not even the potential loss of a close friend...Roberts brings the first Avalon arc to a satisfying close, brimming with action and emotion; a greatly entertaining entry for fans of varying ages. Can the mages prove themselves to the fairimentals and save Aldenmor from the Sorceress once and for all?

I am......upset™️

This has been a really fun series and I'm glad I remembered it existed. The first arc was fun and seeing the girls grow and their friendship strengthen was a lot of fun. I'm sure Kara isn't the fan favorite but I've really become attached to her just as strongly as the others. Also the end of this book genuinely made me sad lol

Anyways I binged the first arc in 4 days and if you just want to have a lot of fun, this is the series for you.

I definitely finished this about five months ago, so the details are pretty fuzzy right now, but I remember that this was a good one in the series. Trial by Fire ends the first arc of the series called Web of Magic (after this began the Quest for Magic series before the series changed publishers), which is fitting because the story changes after this book.

As far as I remember, this is the darkest book in the first arc, and that is what I like about it. Events finally build up to the mages' confrontation with the Dark Sorceress, and, like the blurb on the back cover warns, not everyone will make it out alive.

I would say that that little bit adds just enough realism to the story to make reading a children's fantasy series acceptable for someone my age. The adventure is still entertaining, though, and since much of it, if not most, takes place in the magical world instead of on Earth, the whole thing is just that more enjoyable.

This time the three girls go on a quest to rid the magic world of darkness. It might sound cheesy, maybe a re-make, but oh you are so, so, wrong. It is far from it! It's incredible, fulled with danger at every turn.

While I liked the book, for some reason I just couldn't get emotionally invested in it. Something quite horrible happens and I didn't even really care. I still think this is a brilliant series for kids though.

Trial By Fire was kind of sad. I'm not giving away spoilers, so I will not say what happens. It was very confusing, every chapter was switching to different characters at different times. This made me get confused on who I was reading about. Nonetheless, the book had an amazing battle scene.

I was sad that Storm died :( She was an awesome Mistwolf but the book was good other than that :) I really love the connection to animals in the books! I'm an animal lover and I really love how Adriane, Emily, and Kara are connected to nature! :D

What event could have happened in real life? What would be similar in real life? What would be different in real life?
1. Three people becoming friends then turning on one another.
2. Using animals for evil.
3. No magic.

I read these when I was younger but I would still read them now. They have enough magic in them to entertain anybody.
