"Daughters of Heaven" is a play about the "Parker-Hulme" murder, the trial, the incarceration and the eventual release of Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme.
Anyone interested in the Parker/Hulme murder should read this play. The story is fascinating especially as Michelanne Forster based some parts on Pauline's diary. 'Daughters of Heaven' hits uncomfortably (geographically and emotionally) close to home. It is easy to understand and relate to the themes of teenage obsession, dislike of parents, imagination, ambition and a feeling of disaffectedness. An uncomfortable read.
Enjoyable read however I'm really uncomfortable with how the author used the real names of people involved in the case and focused on the lesbian aspect of it when they were young girls it just feels very wrong. Would love to see this play some day.
It was pretty short, but written in such a way that I felt like I got a really good insight into the girls and their families. It was also an enjoyable (if extremely morbid) read!
