General Lew Wallace is famous as the author of epic religious novel Ben-Hur, as well as his various roles as Major General during the Civil War, Territorial Governor of New Mexico, and U.S. Minister to the Ottoman Empire. What many people don't know is that Wallace was influenced by two strong, educated his stepmother Zerelda and his wife Susan.
