He swore he’d never date another artist, but what about the one who got away?
Alpha Luke Carter is a successful lawyer, but after his last serious boyfriend left him on their anniversary, he’s turned into a workaholic.
Omega Jay Collins is a struggling artist. Barely making ends meet, he’s recently become homeless… just as he lands the gallery show of a lifetime.
When they run into each other at an art show, sparks fly. Luke knows better, but he just can’t stop thinking about getting the sexy omega back into his bed. A night of celebratory passion leads to unexpected consequences…
In this 77,000-word omegaverse/gay paranormal romance, two men get their second chance at love and learn value of family. Deeply descriptive and sexual scenes make this non-shifter alpha/omega male pregnancy romance suitable for adults only.
Sometimes I hate sticking to New Years' resolutions because I hate that I'm lowing the rating. I still liked it quite a bit, but it's not 4 stars compared to some of the other books I've rated that high. I did like the narration by Aleks Esquire (it was the story & some of the characterization and not the performance that influenced the change) and loved the art appreciation, though.
(And I've since gone to a museum and I DID tilt my head to look at some of the paintings! I doubt they were hung incorrectly but it did change the feelings invoked on at least 1.)
Original Rating 14Nov2018: 4 Stars
I...was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Which is odd; it's not the first book this week that has surprised me with how much I liked it, and it's not even the first one this week by this author. A bit funny, a bit angsty, a bit ridiculous and a bit sexy. I loved the second-chance romance aspect, and I adored the side characters.
Having so many people introduced can often overwhelm the story being told for the first set of MCs in any series. Not so here. We get a solid feel for who each of those guys are (and there's A LOT of 'em) but without sacrificing Jay and Luke's story. It's a slow burn, where these guys reconnect after 10 years...but it's worth the wait. The supporting plot was interesting enough without overshadowing the romance, and the climax was to die for. (Side Note: I totally called that new pairing at the end way back when Robert first kept asking Luke to forgive his father.)
Anywho, loved the artist aspect as well. I'm totally gonna just tilt my head next time I go to an art gallery...
I'm not sure who is up next in the series but I'm totally on board. See there's this Omega who seems to be a total badass and the biggest/muscly of the whole gang...and I want him with the Russian smart-ass Alpha. So *crossing fingers* maybe they're next?
Note to self: - Third person; dual pov - Starts with Luke going home to surprise his boyfriend Liam with tickets to Ireland for their anniversary; he finds a break up letter instead so he decides to go to New York to see his Frat brothers - Jay is looking for a gallery to get his work into; he’s low on money; he’s in California; he ran away from New York; he gets a gallery job but is evicted from his apartment - Luke friend drags him to an art show; it ends up being jay’s show - Luke and Jay knew each other in college? Their (rich) families knew each other? But didn’t recognize each other at first until Kurt reintroduced them - Jay has since been on his own fro 10 years; disowned by his stepfather. Its been 10 years since Jay and Luke were at the lake house? (A summer fling?) - "His parents kicked me out after his stepdad caught us naked in the boathouse." …. "I got off easy. I just had to walk to town in the rain. Victor Danville disowned Jay." - Luke helps Jay with a real estate/ inheritance issue Jay is having with his step dad;Jay inherits 1 million dollars; they have sex the night he finds this out - Skips to two months later; Jays pregnant - When Jay tells Luke, Luke asks him to marry him after a mini freak out; Jay says not right now - Book ends with them on Christmas Day - drama with Luke’s dad/exish wife and uncle then the epilogue with them having had their baby (nicknamed her junior) - This book often left me feeling confused and not knowing what the hell was happening. I did not feel connected to the characters either, didn’t believe in their “love” for each other.

For me, Aiden and Austin Bates is a miss or hit. In this case, it was a total HIT! I loved Jay and Luke, boy did I loved them. I enjoyed their slow burn, it was sweet with no hurries and a not angsty like other books I've read. But better than that, I loved their friends and tight-knit group. His friends were a huge support, a comic relief and full of personalities. Jay was sweet and strong, and gorgeous all the same. Luke was gorgeous, he wasn't pushy, he took things slow and I loved their relationship so much! This was such sweet surprise to read, I can't wait for Cody and Nikolai and for Marcus, Kurt, and Teddy.
This book was: Cookies; paint; ice cream; art galleries; sexy omega artists; boisterous, successful, wealthy alpha/omega fraternity-brothers; evil, cheating/unfaithful money-hungry step-mothers & step.-fathers; and dozens upon dozens of cookies. It also was the most enjoyable, intriguing, and gasping-for-breath-from-laughing-so-hard--hilarious stories by Aiden Bates I have ever read. I own pretty much all of his books written in the past couple years, as well as many of his short stories and more than a few books that weren't so we'll done. His writing style has significantly improved, although Trust Fund Baby, in my opinion, surpasses all his previous publications in that I didn't once look for, much less notice, grammatical errors, typos , NOTHING, aside from absorbing the contents of this book! That, in and of itself, is quite amazing given the fact I cannot help myself whenever any WORDS are involved -- I HAVE TO, am almost COMPELLED, in fact, to EDIT as I read, no matter how caught up, interested and absorbed I might be in the contents of a story-line. As I started to reflect on the plot, characters, and other elements of this wonderful story so I could begin writing this review, I found myself in an absolute state of shock: not even ONCE did I take note of any error, be it in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, syntax or making suggestions about alternative phrasing or word choices. NOTHING. Throughout the course of reading this book in its entirety, I did not highlight, insert notes, fix typos, or notice that I hadn't done so until I thought about it. I have NEVER gotten through any of Bates' books without ITCHING to correct his syntax or replace his word choices and homonyms -- ever (overuse of certain phrases, and all the characters have the same speech inflections, patterns, like "you know"). Until Trust Fund Baby: An Mpreg Romance (Frat Boys Baby Book l), which caught me up with its hilarity, back and forth banter between tightly knit friends, and the not-knowing and up-in-the-air future of Jay and Luke.
Bates did the slow reveal of Luke and Jay's history, which ramped up the anticipation as well as interest level, probably a key factor as to why I remained attuned to the contents rather than keeping an eye out for typos! Jay appealed as one of the protagonists, the beautiful, artistic and struggling omega to Luke, who is capable, career-oriented, gorgeous, as well as an adorable contradiction as an alpha who uses cookie-baking as stress-relief. I LOVED their story, though I was wondering for a bit what Luke's deal with artists could be, for contrary to Liam's misguided feeling of his self-importance where Luke was concerned, Fate would only match two halves of a whole, not match two incompatible forces where the omega half was way more self centered, greedy, and selfish without any care for his alphas feelings - the opportunity was too good to pass up or sacrifice for their relationship, and even realizing it's their anniversary, rather than giving Luke the courtesy of being told face to face, he made arrangements to clear everything out of the house and snuck away like a thief in the night. So, Luke gets dumped on a most significant day, which we later find out was planned/ arranged by his sick, degenerate stepmother who desperately wanted to hurt Luke and his father (to prevent Luke from having children so she'd get more millions in the divorce). What sort of selfish, inconsiderate tool does that?! Luke, we discover, was enamored of Liam's red hair, blue eyes, and fair skin, all features Jay possesses, by the way, although that is discovered much later, as we learn Luke and Jay have history, and Luke never forgot him. And, that was where the plot thickened, got really interesting, &absorbing. I give this five stars for being so well written, entertaining, and very nicely wrapped up without any loose ends!
I'm disappointed because I really liked it in the beginning. I liked the writing, I liked the characters, I liked the plot... up until this stopped being a romance and turned into a soap opera full of twists (), stolen inheritances, devious stepfathers, selfish fathers, matchmaking 'bros', etc.
I think it's a case of 'it's not the book, it's me', because I was looking for a simple love story and wasn't prepared for such a complicated background, so the moment we got involved in an inheritance trial, I jumped ship. I might revisit it in the future because I liked Jay and want to see how those two will end up together, but I'm not holding much hope.
So let me jump right into this review. Then is the first time and that I have listened or red any book from Aiden Bates or Austin Bates. The thing that sucks about never knowing who an author is you don't know their writing style.
In this book the author's use a lot of 'says', for example, Jay says... after a while it started to become a little bit mind-numbing. I get that a character is saying certain things but there is a better way of stating that somebody spoke and not use the word 'says'.
Jay was a bit hysterical and I don't understand why. He kept having all these crazy emotions and it just became one big overly-dramatic Mexican Telenovela. I don't know if the authors thought by having Jay as this over-the-top top character it would allow the listeners/reader to connect to him but unfortunately for them that did not occur. Jay just came across as some overly dramatic, needy, annoying, eccentric character. There were times where I just wanted to tell him to just calm down and pull it together because nothing's going to get accomplished if he's in the corner crying and spacing out because an issue has arisen.
Luke on the other hand was not the best alpha male but he wasn't bad. He never came across selfish nor did he come off as domineering. He was a perfect balance to Jay's cuckoo craziness.
The story itself was okay and I am interested in all of Luke's friends. This book is unfinished. There are a lot of loose ends that were not tied up and hopefully in the next book some questions are answered but but I doubt it because it's a whole new set of main characters. I guess I have to sit and wonder what happened to certain individuals in this book.
Aleks Esquire is a good narrator. He did have me committed to the story and I do not blame him for coming across annoying because the book was written specifically annoying. I would 100% listen to another book that he narrates. I wonder if he would become one of my top narrators that I automatically listen to.
I think this is the first time I’m reading a collaboration of these two authors and I have to say, I’m absolutely pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters and am extremely satisfied by the pace of the story.
It was not what I was expecting. In a good way. Jay especially, had a really elaborate and meaty back story. While Luke had a really tight knit group of friends that I am honestly very interested to read more about.
I love the camaraderie among the friends in this story. The way they rely on each other was heart warming and the text messages going back and forth cracked me up more often than not.
For me, slice of life - romance story like this storyline and side character(s) are the keys.
In this one, storyline is okay. Side characters? The BEST. I love Kurt and Marcus the most. The kind of bickering they did with Luke made me smile and giggle. Marcus was the older brother type that I want to have in real life. Actually, I want both because the house will be full of life with them. Teddy. My first impression of him was 'nerd'. Who guess he became a humor spark in near end bickering of Harry and Robert?
Sadly, I don't really understand about the kids and their parents (I mean, I don't know whose kids were they). And what's Sigma Alpha Omega? Is that some kind of boarding house?
I need to know more of other characters, Harry and Robert are no exception [NB: this is my way of saying "I want others!" XD]
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
i loved this one.. oh man.. the bates brothers alone are amazing.. but together they are a force to behold.. this one was so adorable and sweet.. it had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was next.. it had me curious and interested.. i loved it and im glad i got to review it
Luke was always attracted to artist. All ending in failure not realising that he was actually looking for the one who got away. Lovely slow burn romance.
Jay is an omega painter and Luke is an alpha lawyer. They first met when Luke still in college was visiting a friend for the summer since his father and his father's current girlfriend at the time went to Europe. Jay's father caught them and broke them up and burnt the shed where Jay painted. 20 years later they meet again at a art gallery where Kurt a mutual friend and the friend Luke visited in college brought them together and reminded them of the first meeting. neither really ever got over the other including most of Luke's boyfriends being artists. They work through their issues and they both have them.
I went into this with an open mind and I started out really liking it, but it kind of unraveled for me. First of all, there from the first chapter to the rest of the book was a two year gap, which made sense but I didn't find that out until almost the end of the book.
Then, it seemed like the entire relationship with the MC's happened in the past or off page. I'm not really sure how I missed it when I got to the end.
I was hoping for more of a story between the MC's but got more of a frat party instead.
It felt like this book had books before it that I just hadn't read yet and it was confusing. There was so much in the beginning that need to be explained and wasn't until 45% in. I like the characters together and their past together was interesting. They way that they interacted was cute and funny, however I felt like their was conversations or actions that were important to the story but happened in between chapters so we the reactions to what happened. However it was really funny, cute and dealt with all the issues that were important. I loved from 75% until the end. It was worth reading.
Loved it. The story of two star crossed lovers. Who never forgot each other in all the time of ten years they were apart. Even after ten years Luke is still a workaholic for his job and flinting between artists. In hopes of finding that one special person. But the sad reality is that he wants his artist Jay back in his arms. When he gets another shot at him will he be able to convince him that he's the one? I voluntarily read this book.
Way too many people names to keep straight, but I liked the overall story of Jay, a struggling painter, who is trying to make a life for himself. Luke has had some bad relationships with artists, so he resists becoming involved with Jay, especially since they know each other from the past.
I've read Aiden Bates before (specifically, parts of the Hellion Club series) and was not impressed. This book was far better. The writing was better, the characters were better and much less infuriating, the drama was less cyclical and the plot felt like it was actually progressing instead of running in circles where the main characters can't, or refuse to, talk to each other.
It isn't without it's problems. There is more focus on the plot than the relationship, and huge jumps in time left that part of the book less developed than I would have liked. I didn't feel the chemistry between Luke and Jay coming off the page. It was just kind of.....there. Which is frustrating in what is otherwise a pretty good read. I liked that Jay and Luke didn't recognize each other after 10 years apart. I liked that it was clear that Luke had been trying to recreate what he had with Jay from the start, but failed because replacing him was impossible. I like that they resisted trying anything again after what had happened in the past. This was a well done 2nd chance romance, where the two young lovers are torn apart only to be reunited later after they've had their chance to grow. I liked that Jay wasn't a maiden, that he was strong and independent. That he could take care of himself. I especially liked that Luke didn't swoop in and save him from homelessness (well, he bought some paintings. But was he ever really not going to do that?).
Plot wise, I was very happy. But because the relationship felt underdeveloped, somehow, I was unfulfilled.
Alpha Luke Carter thought he had it all. He is a successful lawyer and has a boyfriend who is an artist. He plans on surprising his boyfriend with a trip to Ireland. He know that he is a workaholic and he wants to make it up to his boyfriend. However, his boyfriend has other plans. When he gets home, Luke finds all his boyfriend's things gone and a note saying he is leaving for an opportunity to move forward with his art elsewhere.
After his boyfriend leaves, Luke becomes even more of a workaholic and his friends become concerned. Once of his friends drags him out one night, to of all places, an art showing. And there is where his life takes an even bigger turn.
Omega Jay Collins lived a life of privilege until he was disowned by his stepfather. Now he is a struggling artist who has just become homeless. His luck changes when he lands a gallery showing that could change his life. He runs into his old friend, Luke and sparks fly.
There is no denying they have an attraction to one another. Their pasts collide with their present and they come to realize that the attraction they had for one another when they were younger is only stronger now.
Luke and Jay are a great couple. They compliment each other just as an Alpha and Omega should. I enjoyed their story and I had a blast getting to know Luke's friends. They were a lot of fun to read about. I can't wait to see who's story comes next.

I really enjoyed this book by Austin and Aiden Bates! It definitely felt like this was one of their lighter reads, a slow burn start to this story without a lot of angst. It was fun and I really felt like I got to know these great characters! Luke and Jay just totally melted my heart and made me laugh, definitely a great combination.
I love a second chance romance and these guys definitely deliver. Luke is an alpha who seems to have a thing for artists, although after his last boyfriend just up and leaves him he thinks he needs a change. Jay is an omega, an artist and when we meet him is down on his luck. He's running out of money and options when he comes along an art gallery that actually gives him a show. A visit from an old friend brings Luke back into his life and that is when things start to turn around. Art, friendship and humor bring these two together and they seem to be rekindling those feelings from years ago.
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish - Luke and Jay and the rest of the group are fantastic characters. They made me laugh and feel and I loved how their relationship flowed. These two are just meant to be and once they realize it - of the feels! I definitely hope there are more books for this group, I'd love to see what else this group gets up to. Great humor and love, definitely a must read!

Luke Carter is a busy estate lawyer and the youngest partner at his firm. Being so successful, it’s consumes much of his time which causes problems in his romantic relationships. He has his trusted and much loved frat brothers as support when his latest lover leaves him without notice on their anniversary. Jay Collins is a painter who is having the worst luck. He catches a break with his portfolio when a gallery he enters mistakes him for their next interviewee. Jay can’t let the mistake go without notice and is invited anyway to submit his portfolio for viewing. His luck seems to be turning when he’s offered a chance to show his work. He jumps at the chance.
At the show Jay and Luke get to talking/flirting until their mutual friend introduces them and reminds Luke he’s actually met Jay before.
A really good second chance romance. My issues with it though are that large chunks of the ARC felt disjointed when I was reading it. There wasn’t really a sense of time between events and I didn’t feel as if it transitioned from one paragraph to the next very well.
Otherwise is was a very good read, I liked getting to know all the characters and the frat brothers of Sigma Alpha Omega and their friend/family dynamic. I also enjoyed Jay and Luke working out their issues and the baking and eating and small shared moments.
An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this book! It’s a truly funny and sweet love story between Jay a down and out artist and Luke a successful lawyer that’s recently been dumped by his artist/lover and housemate. Luke and Jay are part of a large boisterous group of college fraternity brothers. The group are all very close to each other and any number of them can be involved in some sort of mischief or helping each other with life issues.
Luke swears he’s done with love or at least he thinks/says he is to everyone. Jay has been abandoned by his family and has been working at scrapping by with his art. When an offbeat art gallery owner decides to give Jay his own show. This show is where he reconnects with a couple of fraternity brothers of which Luke has been dragged by one of his buddies. A brief summer fling back when they were both still in college lead to Jay becoming homeless and Luke’s heart battered and bruised.
Luke and Jay’s journey to a HEA has many obstacles for these two men to work through. Love, trust, suspense, and laughter can be found in this book. The story of these two men has several twists and turns that will keep you turning pages the eager to “see” how they slowly and sweetly come together. I know that you will enjoy this story as much as I did so get your copy today.

OMG...this book is so awesome, heartwarming and hilarious! I am so glad it is a series and I cannot wait to read the next installment. In this installment is the story of Jay and Luke and their unrequited love from 10 years prior. They seemingly run into each other by accident but it is all a big plan by the "brothers" to get them together. Both Jay and Luke have parental issues. As the book goes along we find that Jay's step-dad is a villain (in my eyes), his mother is just a mousy woman that needs a man and puts up with anything. Luke has issues with his father but as we find out that while his feelings are justified there are very good reasons behind his father's behavior which, again, stems from unrequited love.
I love how Jay is a quirky, funny artist and Luke stress bakes. They are great guys and they move heaven and earth for each other and their "brothers". This is a really awesome book and I hope that my review makes you want to read it. I was offered a free copy of this book for an honest review. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Well written and full of life, Trust Fund Baby is a must read! The authors have a beautiful novel full of love, angst and happiness
Luke had known Jay as an eighteen year old student and when they were separated very dramatically he did not think that they would meet again. Jay had begun to study art and was becoming an artist. When Luke's boyfriend left him on their second anniversary with just a note he closed up into himself. He vowed to never date an artist ever again.
Jay was disowned by his stepfather and cast out to become homeless. Ten years later he is a starving artist on his last leg, looking for a gallery to give a show. As it happened he fell into a very exclusive gallery and after one short look over his portfolio offered him a show. On the opening night Luke is tricked into going to the show unbeknownst that it was Jay's opening. Jay had changed the way he looked - dyed hair, new name
This is the start of another great series with a dual Bates collaboration. It was thoroughly engrossing if a little confusing at times, trying to keep the names of the characters straight. At times I wasn't certain if the names belonged to the adults or their children. 😊 Each of the "frat" brothers had a distinctive personality that added to the dynamic of the group as a whole. The friendship of these delightful men was solid. The snarky and humerous dialog was very entertaining. And, their loyalty to one another and to each other's significant partner was endearing. I just downloaded the free prequel to the Frat Boys series and am going to read it right after I leave this 5* review. Looking forward to the next in the series. Cody and Nickoli? Great work guys!
(Also available in a box set of the completed series. Just be sure to read Frat Boys Baby Book o.5 first!!)
Book One of one of the best mpreg series I’ve read so far.
This is a great romance story with a solid mpreg premise of novel-length which I appreciate very much! Definitely a heavy weight, but I appreciate that the writers took the opportunity to do something of this length as it left me very satisfied.
Very good character development of not just the two main characters but of the other characters which will be revisited later in the series. I have yet to see a series which incorporates that many “main” characters in its weave.
This is NOT a standalone novel. Read them in order, or you will be confused and not appreciate the richness of the storytelling.
I absolutely adore this book! The banter between the characters are just amazing. I absolutely love Luke (with his love of baking) & Jay (who's subconscious hides ghosts in his paintings).
Luke's frat brothers are all amazing as well and I can't wait for more!! In fact I can't decide who I would like to read about next (and I am so curious is Nikolai will eventually get Cody 😊). It's oblivious that these frat brothers all think of each other as more then friends.... they are truly brothers (family).
All I can say is I hope we see a lot of Luke & Jay in the next books as well (along with Luke's Uncle Robert & Dad).
