Eleanor Fighter for Social Justicer is the next installment in the Childhood of Famous Americans series.
Using simple language that beginning readers can understand, this lively, inspiring, and believable biography looks at the childhood of Eleanor Roosevelt, who grew up to become one of America's most popular first ladies.
Ann Weil (1908-1969) was a children's author whose children's historical novel, Red Sails to Capri was a 1953 Newbery Honor Book. Some of her other books include Betsy Ross: Designer of Our Flag, Betsy Ross: Girl of Old Philadelphia, and Eleanor Roosevelt: Courageous Girl. Ann was born in Harrisburg, Illinois.
Not all the people in the world have the courage to fight for any kinds of right. Only some people are brave enough to go through the hardships to eliminate the issues of human rights. Eleanor Roosevelt was one of the strong women who were determined to fight for freedom for humans. I had never read such an amazing book that directly explains the importance of freedom for humans. Eleanor Roosevelt was the driving force for creating the character of liberties: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Being the First Lady, she thought for all the people and advocated equal rights for women, African- Americans, Depression-era workers. She worked until the end of her life to get acceptance.
“Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect.” I was really impressed with this quote and from her fine thinking.
This book was a worthy read for me because It gave me the inspiration to be focused on my will and not to give my will. It is a valuable book that can change one's thinking and can be a good motivation.
This book written for middle to upper elementary students follows the life of Eleanor Roosevelt, beginning in young childhood until her death. Most of the book focuses on her younger life but it does detail her accomplishments as an adult and how she was a prominent figure during and after her husband's presidency. An interesting fact that many children might not know is that Eleanor was born a Roosevelt and actually met her distant cousin Franklin, who would later become her husband when she was a very young child.
This biography is amazing and shows the trials and tribulations Eleanor fought for civil rights as well as womans rights. In a world not that long ago where not everyone was seen equal not only for the color of your skin, but the gender you were born as well. She helped change the face of how we are looked at and valued upon in todays world. Eleanor Roosevelt Social Justice Award
My daughter did a report on Eleanor Roosevelt so we read this book together to learn about her life. This story was mainly about her childhood and how she became the strong woman she eventually became.
