i really enjoyed this book. There was a lot of cool and strange records. One of the weird recorded was longest nails which was 18-feet and 10.9-inches. Another cool record was the tallest man which was 8 ft 2.8 in. This book would be good for people who like fun facts and not muc reading.

I hadn't seen a copy of the GWR for close to 20 years and so was delighted when I was given a copy at Christmas. In the end I was glad I didn't buy it. The GWR as it is now is so dumbed down it's beyond belief. Where the old GWR used to be filled with fascinating and relevant records that were page after page of pleasure and knowledge. Now it seems that all you have to do to get in the GWR is do something no one else has done before. Who, of anyone with an iq of at least double figures wants to know what the record is for most marsh mallows stuffed into a single nostril or the record for most squirrels riding on a skate board ? My friends and I actually set a record ourselves, the most people in a bar talking about how bad the GWR book has become. The application is in the post.

Guinness world records 2018 is book full of wonderful and insane records made by people around the globe. From the tallest person ever, to the shortest person ever, there are a whole lot of records broken and many more to break. Did you know the tallest man was Robert Wadlow and he was 8ft 11in! This is caused by his giantism when he was at a young age.

(Nonfiction pick)

I am very aware that this is an out-of-the-box choice for a WOW book, but I chose this book for a couple of reasons. First, the formatting is simple and organized by category of topic -- making it a good choice for an interactive whole-group read-aloud where students can choose what type of facts they want to learn about that day. Second, the diversity and creativity that this book contains and inspires for young children is priceless; reading about all of the different skills and talents that humans are capable of could serve as a fun, exciting segue into a school day that motivates students to challenge themselves and try new things. While this book is a good selection for children from any grade, I feel that instructionally it could be utilized the most in lower grades, perhaps kindergarten through third.

Reading a page or just a couple sections of this book to your class could be a great springboard into creative writing activities. An example of a way teachers could use this book to promote writing would be by reading students a few facts about a class-selected topic, and then having them write a silly story about how they think that record-holder discovered they have that talent. Letting the students generate this backstory is a good way to strengthen their creative writing muscles and general writing skills. Another fun activity could be having students write an ongoing personal records book, writing about feats they've accomplished outside of school, or even skills they discover about themself in the school setting. Teachers could provide opportunities for students to practice some of the easier, school-appropriate talents read about in the book to supplement this writing.

I picked five stars because the book was very interesting but also very fun. It shows goofy world records but also factual ones to help you learn. I think you should read this book because although it may be hefty, it is very cool to see what other countries records are, world recprd are, and maybe even you think you could beat one! Although, i would change the book to make it where the locations where the records were beaten are split into "chapters" to show how many records each country holds. This way, you could see what country holds the world record for most world records.

A mixed bag, as these always are. Lots of records for things like “longest distance run in a superhero costume.” Favorite record- world’s longest eyelashes. Nature can get weird. Favorite section- facts about languages.

loving all the fun information i am learning! Did you know there is a Chinese Water Deer that has antlers on the mouth making them look like fangs? Cool right?
