Having flunked algebra in high school, more about a poor instructor than my ability to do algebra, this book was my first real introdution to algebra. I figuratively beat my head with this book, reviewing it over and over, making large paper graphs of how each part related to the other parts in an effort to get the "big picture" of what it all meant, and then one day just after I started the next algebra course with Silvers book on Intermediate algebra it all clicked. Today this is the one math text I can look back at and perfectly understand everything, and the basis for the algebra I use every day.
