Changing Perspectives: Thoughts to Bring Peace and Joy

Rate this book
Seventy insights and life lessons from a Mary Ella Knowles; counselor, mother and PhD. Sometimes, in spite of our best efforts, our lives are not ideal. There may be circumstances beyond our control, difficult decisions to make, or relationships that are challenging, or even toxic. We often find that solutions are not obvious, and may not even be possible. We have no ruby slippers to click together, no magic wand, and no love potion to bring about the big changes that we covet. So, we proceed on our journey, hoping to find some change that will make things better. When there’s no big solution, we may find that a small change can give us a new outlook. Sometimes there is a person, a phrase, an event, or even an object that you experience in such a way that you see things differently. The reality doesn’t change, but there is a shift that takes place. Perhaps you have a new understanding or a new clarity. You may be able to think about your situation in a new way. Your fresh outlook may change the way your feel about your circumstances. As a result of this revised point of view, you may be able to adopt new behaviors. Sometimes these changes are small, creating a minor adjustment. Sometimes they are monumental with dramatic implications. These shifts don’t alter external circumstances, but they can change us in dramatic ways. Your point of view is altered. You have changed your perspective. The entries presented are examples of changes in perspective that I have experienced or witnessed. Sometimes a simple word or phrase brought a smile to my face that changed my entire outlook. Sometimes my awareness of the triumphs of an ordinary individual inspired me. Being awake to the variety of possibilities that can alter your outlook is life changing. It is my hope that you will experience similar kinds of events, phrases, people, places, or things that will change your perspective. It is my hope that the changes in your perspectives will bring you greater peace and greater joy.
