Robert and Katherine were a young couple in their 30's. They lived on a farm growing wheat crops. They were both exceptionally beautiful and everyone in town envied and admired them. They had three boys and the family was happy and loving.

Robert's and Katherine's love was epic. The greatest love you could ever imagine.

We are in post second World War era, in the 1940's.

Robert grew up extremely poor. He witnessed his mother and sister die of poverty which traumatised him.
As a teenager got a job at Katherine's parents farm. The two youths fell madly in love and got married. Katherine's parents moved to town leaving the farm to the young couple who went on to create a beautiful family.

Robert due to his depraved childhood had a fear of poverty. He always had the desire to be financially secure, that meant the world to him.
Farming was a very hard, back breaking job. He yearned for money and everything money could buy for a man.
He envied the wealthy people in town, their high status in society, their mansions, cars, well tailored clothes and easy, comfortable life.
Farming could not give these to him.

That year their crops were destroyed by bad weather and Robert had to seek employment in a business in the city.
The stylish and beautiful, spoiled daughter of his wealthy boss, Carissa, took a fancy on him as he was a very good looking man and pursued him.
She convinced her father to give Robert a high ranking job in the firm even though he was not qualified for it.
She lavished him with expensive gifts and attention. She became his vehicle to the elite circles, charmed him by her wealth and luxury lifestyle.

Slowly but surely Robert was consumed by greed and at home he was not the loving husband or attentive father any more.
One day he did not return back home. He took residence with Carissa at her mansion with servants and all.

His loving, adoring wife was crushed, his children confused and in a state of disbelief.
He had not seeing or speak to them since even though they were living in the same town.
He would regularly deposit general amounts of money in the family's bank account.

Robert justified his actions by the belief that he was providing his family financial security, he thought it was enough to compensate for his abandonment of them.

He hid pictures of his family in the attic and he would view them from time to time.
He loved his family but obviously he loved money more.
He believed he deserved to live this life.
He sent Katherine divorce papers.

Some years went by.
His grieving wife went on with her life but she still loved him.
His sons became disgusted by their father's abandonment and hatred for him now dueled in their hearts.
How easily greed can destroy a family.

I am not going to disclose what happened after as l don't want to give away major spoilers.
This plot is raw and unapologetic and l am sure it's going to remain memorable to me.
I have to confess that l shed tears reading this book.

Truly hated this. Both MCs were just so incredibly spineless. I can't believe I spent $6 on this.

Anyway, here's a plot summary so no one else wastes their money: happily married h and H are driven apart by two people who want to date them and the H's insatiable lust for money. H ends up leaving the h for the OW, not even having the decency to tell her that this is what he's doing or to serve the divorce papers in person. He also cuts off ALL contact with his two kids, which I find to be the worst in a long list of shitty actions. A lot of times passes in this way--- h with kids trying to pick up the pieces and H content with OW and his boat loads of cash. h spends the entire book pining for H (part of the reason i hated her) and, at the end of the book, when that no-good shithead finally starts to see the error of his ways she is immediately ready to forgive him.

"He’s finally come home. Oh, god , I love you now more than ever, she thought. His face was still beautiful to her. She could not wait to feel his touch, to live life with him again. To love him forever. She moved toward him. Robert reached out for her and Katherine felt her arm lift, but as she advanced, a figure lunged in front of her and as if in a distant dream she heard yelling.

That's her son, who luckily steps in with the following:

“NO! NO! NO! Don’t you touch her! You stay away! Don’t you dare come near us! You left us!” It was Thomas. His face red and sweaty as he screamed at his father. “You stay away!” He pounded his chest, anger consuming his flesh, his face redder than freshly drawn blood. “I’m supposed to be your son. You’re supposed to love us! Me, Albert, and William. But you left us! You were OUR father and you left us.” He leaned forward screaming louder into his father’s face. “You left us! I hate you! I hate you! We all hate you!”

great slam. Causes the H to finally realize what an irredeemable asshole he's been. And makes h think about her sons and not just her undying love for the aforementioned dickhead.

The H is so distraught that he takes the coward's way out again. He leaves a big sack of cash (presumably what he left the h for in the first place) for h and kills himself. I can honestly say that it's the first time I've wanted a H to kill himself.

I bought this book on .Dec 7, 2014. and it was on my reading list.
I do not remember who recommended the reading, but I bought it and added it to my cheater's shelf.
This month I'm trying to get my TBR up-to-date and I've researched my Kindle and discovered this book.
I had read reviews at the time, but fortunately I did not remember anything.
This book evokes so many feelings and their love is so beautiful at the beginning of the reading that we really get touched.
Our supposed hero has had a miserable childhood and fears poverty. He witnessed the death of his mother and sister in extreme poverty. He is a dedicated husband and father, but feels that life is not fair to him and deserves more material things. He envies the wealth and power of the city's elite.
He has a wonderful wife and their lives are simple but full of love and happiness. They are happy and envied by people for their qualities as a couple and as family.
Their crop of wheat suffers a great loss and he seeks employment in one of the factories of the city.
The daughter of the factory owner has an obsession with him and wants him for herself. One of the employees at the same factory has an obsession with our heroine and he wants her for himself.
The two unite to separate the couple and achieve their goals.
But if it had not been for the hero's greed and the choices he made they would not have achieved their goal.
He began to compare the other woman's wealth and the ease with which she buys everything and is served by servants at any simple request. He even makes love to his wife by thinking of the other woman because she helped him in Christmas shopping and he was charmed by her wealth.
Gradually he moves away from the family and becomes more and more involved with the other woman and being blinded by greed.
Meanwhile the other man who covets our heroine begins to infiltrate their family and make a presence.
I was shocked by the coldness that he leaves the family and is deluded with clothes and cars that the other woman buys for him. He cuts off all kinds of contact with the family, not accepting calls from the wife and ignoring the children. Even at his sons' birthday party he does not appear.
Our heroine is destroyed and the children do not understand what happened.
I confess that I was very sad to accompany a story of love and family so perfect that broken in this way.
He sends divorce papers for her to sign without even coming face to face with her. He sends through the man who from the beginning coveted his wife. This man seeing the suffering and destruction of our heroine begins to regret and feel guilty about his part in the separation of the couple.
The supposed hero gets stuck in his ivory tower with the other woman who is a bitch, expensive clothes, cars and money that in the end are worthless. The grass is greener in the neighbor's yard. But not everything that glitters is gold.
Never forgetting that the story takes place during the Second World War and that women behaved differently from the present.
My grandmother had to wait until my mother got married to be able to separate from my grandfather who was a great cheater. Because at the time divorced or separated women were not well accepted by society.
I was outraged at her intention to accept the cheater back because she still loved him, but her children had a different opinion. They were disgusted by the abandonment of their father and began to hate him. There is a very strong scene where the children show him what he did to their family.
Our supposed hero turned out in the end besides being greedy, being a great coward who could not bear to face the consequences of his actions.
Our heroine continued to be the wonderful person she was and found happiness.
I finished the book exhausted and with a sadness in my heart. The author gave us strong feelings and a satisfying ending. I would prefer that the supposed hero live with the other woman until the end of his life in great wealth but miserable inside. But I'm a vengeful bitch.
I recommend reading.

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known, Katherine. How did I ever get you to fall in love with me?”

“Don’t ever leave me, Katy Girl. I would die without you,” he whispered

“Till death do us part.”

“You belong to me and I to you, always and forever,”

“With every beat God gives me life and as long as I have life, I will forever protect you.”

“Oh, I think it will work just fine, Suzie, dear. One should never underestimate the power of money, my darling friend. Just look, it’s already beginning.”

He shut his eyes tighter, pushing out the sight, yet the tighter he squinted, the more vivid she became: Carissa, naked beneath him.

Carissa Boyd, he thought. Now, that’s a woman who knows style.

“I’m just not happy. I want more. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love you, Katherine. But I don’t want this anymore.”

There was nothing left he wanted that being with Carissa had not gotten him. He loved it. He loved the style of this life. The carefree days of going out and buying whatever the hell he wanted to. The way other women looked at him when he walked by. It did something to a man to know he had it made. To know he was now the envy of others instead of the other way around.

This is one of the few books I’ve read where it felt downright sad. Spoilers———————>

Ordinarily when faced with a cheating husband who leaves his family for the OW I hope something terrible befalls him. In WTWB, however, what ultimately happened with the H seemed wrong. It felt wrong—not because he didn’t make the choices which wrecked his life—but because of the author’s skilled manner in fleshing out the seemingly wholesome love shared by the MCs, it is clear that but for the manipulative machinations of a determined, homewrecking OW and shallow wanna-be OM, this couple would not have parted. Yes, the H is responsible for his deeds but given his childhood it is understandable why he felt a desire to be financially secure. He came across as a good man who just made bad choices and after it was all said and done, could not see anyway to redeem himself.

As for the h, my heart broke for her but I was glad that she eventually found love with someone else.

Although I knew how the story ended prior to reading it, it was still hard to escape the feels. I am so glad I did not go into this blind or else I’d really be sad. Many thanks to those who have (and continue) to “spoil” plots so others know what they’re getting into.

I highly recommend this book for angst addicts on a bender.

Robert and Katy had a beautiful magical marriage filled with love and happiness, thinking they would remain together forever, forsaken all others till death do them part… Well as the saying goes money is the root of all evil.

Well the devil sure did make his appearance in the form of Carissa that conniving treacherous bitch.. But I have to hold Robert accountable for his actions he clearly was no saint, He had everything a man could ask for, he had more than most and didn’t even realize it due to his own greed, Carissa opened the door for Robert showing him a different way of living, lavishing him with gifts. Showing what wealth can do. But Robert walked through them and embraced his new life. So no he gains no sympathy from me...

Those poor boys broke my heart I was crying when the boys finally said their peace and I was truly happy with the ending…

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was very impressed. The author captured my heart from the first page right through to the last page. This is a beautiful love story.

Katherine and Robert have the perfect relationship and the perfect family with their three boys. They have an almost perfect life until their farm is devastated by a natural disaster. This leaves them financially unstable so when a well paid job offer comes in from the town businessman John Sanders then Robert and Katherine have to seriously consider Robert taking him up on his offer. They soon become interested in the other life they see when they attend parties and get a taste of the rich life.

John Sanders has a daughter Carissa who has recently been widowed, she is besotted with Robert and will do anything to get her claws into Robert. Carissa Boyd is truly a nasty piece of work, I absolutely hated her. Katherine also has an admirer, Cal he is equally as mean as Carissa and they make a mean partnership.

I loved the characters in the book, I especially loved Emily Katherine's mum and I also enjoyed Tory's story also.

I don't want to spoil the plot so I won't divulge any more. This is a truly emotional story which has lots of surprises. What kept me completely engaged throughout was that I could never have guessed where the story was going and how it would end.

The authors descriptions of Katherine's emotions were very well written and touched me. Overall this is a book about love, deceit, selflessness, family values and betrayal. I was brought to tears whilst reading parts of the story.

There is absolutely no doubt that this book could be adapted into a captivating film, I would love to see this happen as it's such a wonderful story.

I have rated this book 4 stars, however, if the option was available I would rate it 4.5 stars.

I read this book when it first came out and now 5 months later I am still thinking about it. Very strong character development! Great story line even if the story didn't go exactly where I wanted it to. The heartwrenching end is one of the reasons I can't get this book out of my mind. A MUST READ!!

This is a good love story but I REALLY did not like the way it ended. I enjoyed both the story and the characters. The storyline was a bit predictable but caught me off guard with the last few chapters.

Not a love story

In many ways this book reminds me of Promises by B Plain. Husbands who turn their backs on their families, one for love of money, and one for lust. They don’t end well.
It’s well written. In each story there is Eden, the “apple”, the temptress and a foolish man.
I still recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book. There are many lessons to learn from the book. Things that s o many of us have experienced and gone through.

We all know people like the characters in the book and can easily relate to them. The ending is bittersweet and and on the other hand, happy. It is indeed a tragic love story.

He was a passionate lover to his wife. It was her name breathed out from his lips before and after he was with her. But I don't understand his motive to completely left his family just like that and had peace doing it. I never drink and perhaps will not completely understand the effect of blackout, but I am under impression that Katherine is in Robert's unconsciousness - she lives in his heart and soul, so I assume he would have known her smell, her body and not mistook her from other woman whose house he went to. And how come he took the ending like that because he was devastating by his family reaction, which he should consider before he left them. I hate Robert because he was a fool and childish - if he wanted richness and fame, man up and be decisive about it and not thinking he would have both worlds. Only a very young child who likes to have both toys without considering the cost.

Despite how slow the narration and how I hate Robert, I learnt something from this book depiction about that era. And I don't know why but the book lingers on my mind

Very powerful.

Thanks to Goodreads free giveaway program I was introduced to a very heartfelt and sad love story in the form of "Where The Wheat Blows". Throughout the entire book was an all to familiar theme in life; love of heart versus love of money. As I finished this story and thought about which value truly won the fight, I'm really not sure. Read it, then think it through and you decide which really came out on top. Recommended read.

Don't judge a book by it's cover... I thought this was a great romance/drama novel. I loved the the main Characters Katherine and Robert and was pulling for them the entire book... Unfortunately it didn't end the way I was hoping but it had a great twist to the plot!! I will be passing this book along to my friends to read!

Loved this story which I received as an e-book from Goodreads. It's a love story and a validation of the truth-the love of money is the root of all evil. The unusual twists and turns kept me engrossed late into the evening. Even though there were some spelling and editing errors, I must give this extraordinary book five stars.
