The two accounts are valuable in illuminating Boone's life, however, the dated syntax makes for a somewhat frustrating read. Still, the first hand source adds an interesting perspective. Recommended for fans of early American history.

From the mouth of the man himself, so to speak. Set up in a journal style which was most likely referred to when this was published it is billed as, and is, in his own words. This is a very short book and an easy read that can be finished in an evening and is a good primer into Mr. Boone's life on the frontier.

Born in Pennsylvania (I've been to the house) and eventually moving through the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky Boone's name is synonymous with frontiersman and western expansion. Every kid knows the name Daniel Boone and for folks my age Fess Parker and his coon skin cap come to mind. The real story is a bit more realistic that good old Fess portrayed and much more exciting.

I enjoyed reading this and learning more about Boone, it led me to a larger biography that I am soon to read. It was worth an evening's time just to get some insight into this legend of a man.
