Ed is the author of the post-apocalyptic Breakers series and the epic fantasy series The Cycle of Arawn. A former New Yorker and Idaho-guy, he currently lives in the LA area. His short fiction has appeared in a whole bunch of magazines and anthologies.
What an epic ending to an amazing tale of suspense and edge of your seat battles in space! I did not want this book to end, and was very grateful for the extensive epilogue that (slightly) quenched my thirst for more. I found the imagery Robertson used in this final book was exceptionally well done, and (unlike the Breakers series) felt as though I could really see
I haven't been able to start a new book since I finished Stardust well over a week ago.
These series would just be amazing on screen and I dearly hope to see that happen one day. Until then, I will voraciously read and re-read Robertson's stories and imagine all of the things that might have happened to my favourite characters.
It seemed like it was such a long time ago that I read the first book of Mr. Robertsons “Rebel Stars” series. In reality it was only a couple of years but had fallen off of my radar. Good thing there are author follows and mailing lists. This is a review for the final book but also encompasses the previous one because they were released almost simultaneously. The books are set in the world 1000 years after the events of the “The Breakers” series of books. Earth has recovered from a post apocalyptic virus set upon the upon the human race by aliens to become space faring people. These last 2 tomes deal with the final battles of a new alien threat that wants to wipe humanity from the earth and solar system. The characters are well developed. There are tons of space battles, combat scenairios, action, witty dialog and not too intricate future/near future science. It’s a fun and quick read. Really enjoyed the way the author worked in the characters from “The Breakers”. I would highly recomend starting at the beginning. I also am a big fan of “The Cycle of Arwan/Galand” series by Mr Robertson
The series finale earths last desperate battles against the Lurker fleet and those Lurkers who are trying to get a foothold on Earth. This has been a good series of medium length books (approx 250-300 pages each) following a key set of characters as they try and prepare for a second alien invasion. It's all good fun and whilst there are problems there are the usual sort you come across in most books /series of this type
1) Whilst the ships do run low on missiles there seem to be a never ending supply of replacements 2) Ships seems to take no time at all to built and develop 3) Obviously the key characters are practically immortal and can survive any number of death dealing events
Still it was a good following up series to the Breakers series which relates the story of the first invasion by the Swimmers. Whilst there are occasional references to that invasion and the fact it triggered some people to prepare. I don't think it's essential to have read Breakers first.
This multi book story was supported by a few heroes from the beginning to the end, there were a few times when it looked like a few of them wouldn't continue yet they did. The story was well constructed, the starship fights somehow felt real. I recommend this one, it's a good story about survival.
I read Breakers a while back and really enjoyed it. I think Rebel Stars did a really good job taking humanity to the stars after the events of Breakers, and really hope that Robertson continues the universe.
What a talent EWR is. I’ve now read the Breakers series and this one. About 15 books. Love the way he incorporates strong women into his writings. Very entertaining reads with much food for thought.
Edward W. Robertson has crafted a wonderful universe and masterfully told an epic tale of human survival and exploration. I am already looking forward to rereading all six books.
Very good ending to the series that tied up the lose ends, but still with plenty of plot lines that could be spun into future series. Overall, this is one of the better series that I have read recently and is highly recommended.
I loved this book. Probably my favorite read of 2021. Great characters and setting. The author writes fantastic character and relationship development.
I never write reviews. Maybe I’m lazy. Maybe I think opinions on books are so personal, subjective and arbitrary that reviews are pointless. But this author is one or, or maybe the best fiction I’ve ever read. Start at the beginning with the Breakers series and don’t stop. Some of the best character development I’ve ever read. Dialogue that is hilarious, intense, heart wrenching. But most of all, the plot was never predictable. Ever. I love books. And I read voraciously. But generally, I have at the very least an idea of what’s coming next. I was surprised, entranced, tantalized at every turn, in every book in this multi-series. It’s been months since I finished this series (these series-es) and I 1. Am sad there’s not more. And 2. Still feel strongly enough about this phenomenal, stunning author that I needed to express my awe of the sheer experience of the journey and wistfulness at its end.
