Could have been excellent

These two books have good plots, believable, charismatic characters, and powerful descriptions. The problem is that they are too long. The overabundance of sex and language completely sour the story and add unnecessary length. It takes away from what could have been well written, interesting stories. I would not recommend!

Good Adventure in Vegas--a twofer!

Two excellent Vegas adventures with a plucky heroine who never stops, and a cast of supporting characters worthy of tinsel-town. Some rough patches in the writing, and an editor would be good here, but very enjoyable light reading!

Fun start to a series

Book One—Wanna Get Lucky
I found the book very entertaining. Fans of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series will enjoy this series set in Vegas. Big difference between Stephanie and Lucky? Lucky is fiercely competent and in control. Readers will note some similarities but Lucky is a vast improvement and much more amusing.

The series, set in Vegas revolves around Lucky O’Toole, a problem solver, a fixer, for an elite hotel casino. The setting alone is ripe for one off anecdotes to set the stage for establishing Lucky’s problem solving skills, connections and moxy. I liked her immediately. The main story here revolves around the death of a woman Lucky knows from the casino who plummets to her death from a helicopter bearing the logo of The Babylon, the hotel casino she works for. It’s an involved case that Lucky eventually tracks down and puts together with help from an interesting cast of characters. I can’t expand on these people too much without spoilers but suffice to say this is an intriguing the world the author has created. I’m looking forward to more.

Book Two—Lucky Stiff
Another fun, engaging mystery from Deborah Coonts. Like book one there are plenty of Vegas hijinks our resident Customer Relations/problem solver has to deal with. Plus in this book we deal with a huge fight, the grand opening of a glitzy club, Teddie’s music career taking off, a virgin auction and a huge movie star about to torpedo his career with Lucky’s help. Oh yeah, and a dead body found in the shark tank at another casino who has ties to The Babylon and Lucky’s friend The Beautiful Jeremy Whitlock.

The author does a great job melding all the storylines and leading us on a chase through clues, various types of heartaches and Lucky jumping into the murder investigation to save her friend Jeremy. The secondary cast from book one are present and accounted for, with a new addition or two. The light tone still allows for the serious business of investigating murder. All kind of strings are pulled together at the end and the as the crisis moments play out the tension ratchets up. It’s a great job by the author keeping all the balls in the air and maintaining the reader’s interest in all of them.

I’ll definitely be reading more in this series.

Riveting

I downloaded this almost solely because it was compared to Evanovich and I *love* her. It's um... It's not really like Evanovich. BUT. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I really enjoyed both books in this collection and look forward to reading the rest. I found it refreshing that the female lead was very competent and independent. All of the characters are interesting and nuanced and great fun to read about. The pace is breakneck, the mystery compelling, and the romance is sweet. Plus, I love me some happy endings.

After the first half I felt like I was forcing myself to read it. Unrealistic and mostly unlike characters.

This is a review of the first of the two book in this bundle, because I'm not in the mood to read book two. I'm sure it is just a continuation of the first book, which would be fine, but I have so many other books I'm more interested in reading now.

Ms. Coonts books are light reading, which is fine if you are looking for a bit of amusement and no deep thinking - or even any thinking at all. I will have to warn those readers who are possessed with delicate sensibilities: these books contain soft porn.

The author's main protagonist Lucky has been compared to Stephanie Plum. Maybe a bit. Certainly the wise-cracking seems similar. She is, however, unlike Stephanie, in the hotel/casino business in Las Vegas; the head of the Public Relations Department, which means she is a fixer. There is a lot of stretching of reality in how she gets involved with solving a murder while doing her actual job of keeping everything in the casino/hotel running smoothly.

This book is a kind of romantic romp with chuckles and a bit of sexual teasing. Oh, and a murder to solve. If this sounds like something you're interested in, then I suggest you pick up a copy to read and enjoy yourself.

Lucky O’Toole is tall, smart, strong, young woman who is the chief problem solver in Babylon, the most luxurious Casino in Las Vegas. Lucky has been working there since she was 15, now in her early 30s, she knows the casino and almost everyone who works in it. There is little that surprises her, although there is always something new, she is usually able to handle it. In book 1, the action starts when a young woman falls (pushed?) out of the casino’s helicopter and lands in the Pirate Show water. Things are complicated with the arrival of a new private investigator on the scene. In book 2, a woman (or what is left of her) is found in the casino’s shark tank, having been dinner for the sharks. --- A fun, fast moving, murder mystery and love story. In book 1 I learned more about the sex industry than I cared to know, but I assume that the industry has industrial shows just like other industries… A good escape from the mess that was 2020. Started 2021 off on an irreverent adventure or two – since I couldn’t resist going straight ahead into book 2 to see what Lucky would run into next. This one didn’t have the sex industry, but it did have Lucky’s mother, Mona, auctioning off the virginity of a young lady. Mona runs the most famous brothel in Nevada.

Lucky accident

I stumbled upon this series when Lucky met the Housewife Assassin and joined forces with her in a joint effort by the two authors. I enjoyed that venture so much that I decided to try one of Ms. Coonts’ books. I’ll say up front that I’ve been to Vegas once and have no desire to return. I found it to be a city of excess and the artificial. However, these books turn those characteristics into wonderful mysteries. The excesses are shown in a humorous light and people’s behavior equally so. I like Lucky. She’s a real person whose inner turmoils and attempts to hide them with a sarcastic wit would probably be a psychiatrist’s delight. If anyone like the other characters really exist, I’ve never met them. But again, they are also a perfect balance of humor and depression. Situations are likely realistic. All in all, I didn’t find anything to not like and will probably binge on this series for the next little while.

REALLY GOOD STORIES!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed both these books immensely! To be honest after reading a few chapters I almost didn't keep reading but I went back and re-read the reviews and decided to keep reading. I was so glad I did.... I ended up engrossed and fascinated with Lucky's life and all the interesting characters around her... They are all so colorful and quirky... Adored Teddie, the beautiful Jeremy, the Big Boss and... I guess all of them!!!!

I got so I couldn't put the books down because the pace of the stories are so fast and things happen so quickly that you can't predict or be prepared for what is coming next which is just how I like a mystery to be. The suspense and mystery is woven so cleverly into the story that it keeps you guessing!!!!! I am so glad I came across this wonderful author!!!!!😁

Interesting for the fantasy stereotypes it offers to its feminine audience--the fabulous consumption and status symbols of material gain for the protagonist, who constantly complains about the stress and demand of her workload dealing with solving all the problems at a grand hotel in Vegas. It has it raunchy moments, but what wore me out were all the fashion fantasies, the subplot around a mother who runs the best little whorehouse in Nevada, and the obvious plot reveal that was easy to figure out well before the main character did. I didn't have the energy or interest to read the second book. I recommend these books to young women who have never been to Vegas and are heavily invested in the idea of defining who they are by the expensive things they own.

I needed a break from some heavier reading and these two books were definitely a break. They are the first two books in a series taking place in Las Vegas. Our heroine, Lucky, is the person who fixes problems with guests at a big casino and it is a hoot. She's not the police, so she doesn't have to follow all the rules, but has a policeman (and a private investigator) that she works with. She's paid extremely well, so money for wardrobe, apartment and auto, is no object. She's lived pretty much on her own in Las Vegas since she was 15, so knows her way around. (Her mother runs a brothel and kind of kicked her out because she didn't want her daughter in that atmosphere.) As you can see, the book is pretty far out, but it was hard to put down.

FABULOUS!! I enjoyed every word of these two books. I adore Lucky O'Toole...spunky, sassy, smart enough, insecure enough and likeable enough to have two books revolve around her. This, to me, is the absolute BEST way to visit Las Vegas...not to mention no plane fare or hotel reservations involved...just a comfortable chair and your favorite libation, grown up or not. These books are a real win - especially if you are looking for something fun to read while your significant other is out hunting, watching a football game that you could care less about or even on the chaise lounge by the pool. The characters are interesting, quirky, and real. Can't ask better. Hope you enjoyed these two books as much as I did.

I got this amazing double book on amazon kindle and what a value! This definitely kept me entertained and wanting more. I finished the first 11/11/2020 and the second 12/10/2020 .... my only issue is that there are already so many in this series and I have so many books in the TBR stack already !!!! It is a great Vegas based book with multiple stories and characters that keep you on your toes to say the least. The characters are totally relatable and loveable !!! I do love Lucky but I think Teddie is my favorite but then there is the big boss, mother, Ms. A ... they are all great with various representation and just wonderfully written ! If you are looking for an escape from this reality this series would be a great one to dive into!

Great set of books!

I really enjoyed these 2 books. So much so that I sat up all night to finish up. Deborah Coonts knows how to grab your attention and hold it. As a Public Relations boss in a high level hotel-casino in Las Vegas, Lucky controls how the place is run, throw in a murder or 3, several conventions, a world class boxing match, several conspiracies, 2-3 men who decide they want her, snakes, naked drunks, movie stars, a dive from a helicopter, a madam for a mother and a revelation as to a father. See how smoothly she solves all all the problems. Enjoy the humor. Read on!!!!!!

The Lucky O'Toole series is very entertaining. If you enjoy Vegas, these are set at a fictional casino right on the strip. All the characters are very entertaining. Lucky is the Community Relations person who seems to have a knack for crime solving. I had already read the first book in the series and then messed up and read a couple of the novellas and the newest book, which created some spoilers that I wish I didn't know about. I like to read a series in order, so I ruined it for myself. Having said that, the books are still very enjoyable. There's always something going on, the story moves along pretty fast, and the characters are all likable. I would recommend this series.

I love finding new books and new authors to love and I found both with this series! Lucky O'Toole is my kind of gal. She's no-nonsense, knows her job, doesn't take flak from anyone, and still has a softer side that comes through when necessary. I kind of saw her as a competent Stephanie Plum in her crime-solving abilities, but her outlook and understanding of life are far more advanced. I got plenty of laughs from her while at the same time, trying to solve the mystery faster than she could. If you love Vegas, the sins of Sin City, the Strip, and a little bit of romance, adventure, and mystery all rolled into one, then you'll love the Lucky O'Toole Series!

Potential Gone Flat

With great characters and multiply plots these novels could have been five stars. A 6' blonde Amazon as Head of Customer Relations at the top hotel in Vegas are prime entities for super reading. However, liberalism has infected this author to the point of entire chapters being devoted to pushing agendas that are not accepted by millions. With that said, if you want to read page after page after page pushing extremist views then have at it. You will be a member of a vast minority that will thoroughly enjoy it.

Fun romp around Vegas and it won't cost you anything! Lucky O'Toole stories are filled with interesting people, none more so than Lucky herself. Wanna Get Lucky & Lucky Stiff mesh nicely together and introduces readers to Lucky, Ms. P, Teddie, the staff at the Babylon and all the other "players". Lots of backround details keep readers from wondering who's who, what's what and so on. Ms. Coonts' descriptive writing makes it easy to picture the quirky cast of characters, posh surroundings of the Babylon, the streets of Vegas and and you'll find yourself immersed in the action.

A delightful read in a pandemic era

Coonts brings to neon-bright life her cast of Vegas characters, and sets your senses alight as you trot behind the heroine, Lucky Chance, on her whirlwind of adventures. Ever the pessimist, Lucky strikes a chord in those of us clamoring to be set free from our self-isolation, wanting to barge through life, as her characters fly through her books. A quick and fun read, she has been a beacon of light in an otherwise dull year of COVID and isolation.

Absolutely packs a punch! Lucky O'Toole is the person to know in Vegas, and the circus master of Babylon, she's able to manage and handle those at their most difficult times with precision. This time, one of her friends takes a header out of a helicopter for everyone to see, and that is only the beginning of this mystery. As circumstances and evidence mount up, it's up to Lucky to get things straightened out before it costs Vegas more than it can handle. It's such a great read, and I'm already on another one of these books!

Entertaining and close to a Plum

Any review that tantalize me with a comparison to a Stephanie Plum grabs my attention. I really love the Plum series. Usually I am completely disappointed, not so much this time. Though it does not have the laugh out loud humor in the Plum series, it does have a saucy, down to earth heroine that you care about. Good read and will look for the follow ups.

Lucky

Lucky is an interesting character. Officially, Lucky is the Customer Relations Manager at the Babylon in Las Vegas. Standing at 6 feet and possessing an attitude, Lucky tries to help everyone in any way possible. Having lived in Las Vegas most of her life, Lucky has numerous legitimate and savory friends and contacts.

I liked her sassiness, strong character, and get it done attitude. Very enjoyable.

Not for guys

Made it though 8% of the double set, first two books. Perhaps 4 pages of all that was actually a mystery, while the rest was obsessing over guys, flirting with guys, and what seemed to be every designer name in the world mentioned while talking clothes and handbags. I can see that women would love reading these books, but I think we guys are miles outside the target audience.

I only read the first of this 2 book edition. It was okay but I couldn't really feel the enthusiasm to continue the 2nd story straight after. I may go back to it but only if I was stuck for something else to read. The characters are fine, the lead one Lucky, quite sassy and mildly amusing with an attitude but the plot and storyline didn't hold my interest much and I found myself caring less and less towards the end.

THE LUCKY DOUBLE is a two-book Kindle bundle containing WANNA GET LUCKY? and LUCKY STIFF. I hadn't read any of Deborah Coonts novels previously and found these easy and entertaining reading.
Coonts delivered excellent characters and scene descriptions. I enjoyed the light-hearted humor mixed with light suspense in WANNA GET LUCKY? and found myself enjoying her writing style. In book two, LUCKY STIFF, the subplots and characters overshadowed the main plot in my opinion.

Since tnhis is two books in one, they both get 5stars b

Book one sets style and cast and tempo! Its a good story line! Book two happens about three months later! Also a better story with additional cast! Both books give you an inside view of Vegas ,and its ins and outs! And a glimpse of the Old Guard that started the Nevada scene! I enjoyed both books immensely !
