Lucky O’Toole, the vice president of Customer Relations for the Babylon, one of Las Vegas’s most over-the-top strip properties, is seriously regretting booking a reality television show, The Forever Game, in the hotel’s small theater. The four contestant-couples add their own mischief to the incendiary mix normally available in Sin City while competing for a Las Vegas wedding extravaganza. The host of The Forever Game, Trey Gold, appears interested only in keeping the spotlight on himself while the contestants run wild, sampling all Vegas has to offer and threatening to blow the whole show out of the water. Not only must Lucky keep the couples from killing each other, killing their relationships, or ending up on the front page of the Review-Journal, she has to navigate her own rocky road of love. Teddie, her live-in lover, seems ready to chase a new career as a singer, leaving Vegas . . . and Lucky . . . behind. And the Babylon’s new French chef seems determined to muddy the murky waters of love even further.
Then there’s Lucky’s mother, Mona, who never could leave well enough alone . . .
Deborah Coonts swears she was switched at birth. Coming from a family of homebodies, Deborah is the odd woman out, happiest with a passport, a high-limit credit card, her computer, and changing scenery outside her window. Goaded by an insatiable curiosity, she flies airplanes, rides motorcycles, travels the world, and pretends to be more of a badass than she probably is. Deborah is the author of the Lucky O’Toole Vegas Adventure series, a romantic mystery romp through Sin City. Wanna Get Lucky?, the first in the series, was a New York Times Notable Crime Novel and a double RITA™ Award Finalist. She has also penned the Kate Sawyer Medical Thriller series, the Brinda Rose Humorous Mystery series, as well as a couple of standalones. Although often on an adventure, you can always track her down at www.deborahcoonts.com.
I didn't like this as much as the first two books. I did like the plot, and getting to see Lucky just doing her job, but a lot of the characterization felt forced to me. I also didn't like the way the very two-dimensional chef was shown as being a counterpoint to Teddie (especially after I had such a bad first impression of said chef in book two). I hope the author does a better job of developing him in the third book and redeems him in a more convincing way if this is going where I think it's going. I probably won't be happy even if she does, as I tend to find "the honeymoon phase is over, relationships are hard work, it must not be real love then" really annoying.
This novella, which occurs after book 2 in the series, doesn’t have a lot of meat to it but it does serve to advance the overarching storyline well giving us insights into some ripples in the smooth course of love for Lucky and Teddie.
The book centers on four couples in a reality tv show that is shooting at The Babylon. Of course, being Vegas there are hijinks that Lucky has to deal with but wrapped around it all are the cracks Lucky is beginning to see in her relationship with Teddie. Clearly the intent here is to start a path to upcoming storylines in the series which kind of becomes necessary after the events of book two.
I enjoyed this short book about Lucky and friends. However, I didn't enjoy it as much as the other books in the series. This one is about a reality TV show. Four couple compete for all expense paid wedding. But I didn't like the couples, I didn't like the outcome and wish the author had found something positive to say about love. Well written, great characters and interesting relationships but I though the plot wasn't up to my expectations from this series.
I really enjoy the Lucky O'Toole series..love the Vegas setting, gambling backdrop, casino characters. The plots aren't too believable..but fun. This storyline wasn't as good as the previous one I read, but still fun. And the uncertainty of Lucky's love life, keeps me guessing and wanting more. Will keep reasing Ms Coonts for sure😊
I like the Lucky series, but read this before the second book, which is set before this one, so I got spoiled for a few things. It was a fun read, not quite as good as the first book, which I really enjoyed, but I liked it. Good characters and it's set in Vegas which is always fun.
Another chaotic a$v3nture in the Lucky O’Toole series set in Las Vegas. No murder this time around, instead Lucky has to corral the antics of reality television show contestants staying at her hotel.
A Lucky adventure "novella in between" that takes place between Lucky Stiff & So Damn Lucky. a quick read that involves Lucky trying to keep the peace between the couples that are in the hotel for a reality show with the grand prize being an all expense paid wedding. Chaos ensues. Also delves into the her & Teddie relationship.
Lucky in Love Deborah Coonts Forge, January 2012 ISBN 978-1-4668-0548-4 ebook exclusive
Lucky O’Toole, Head of Customer Relations at The Babylon on the Vegas Strip, has a full plate every day but this time she might have taken on a little too much. A reality TV show, “The Forever Game”, will be televising the final competition of the show live at The Babylon with four couples vying for the grand prize of a lavish Las Vegas wedding. It sounds simple enough but Lucky had no idea just how smarmy the host, Trey Gold, is or how dysfunctional the couples would be. That’s all well and good—after all, how hard can it be to make sure the show goes on without a major hitch?
Then, the first couple disappears and everything spirals down from there. Lucky races from one crisis to another including a trip to Miss Minnie’s Magical Massage Parlor to rescue Trey from the clutches of Miss Minnie and her employees because he’s too cheap to pay for the last, er, service and another trip to the home of a playboy swinger to extract a pair of guests trapped by the paparazzi. A jewel-encrusted battery-operated “boyfriend” becomes a weapon and, well, this reality show is becoming way too real.
In the meantime, Lucky has to deal with the mother from hell who is a former Madam and a friend/lover with his own agenda. Life in Vegas may be perpetually interesting but it sure isn’t easy.
Lucky in Love is a novella, an entertaining “in-between” for current readers of the romantic mystery series and an introduction for potential fans. There is no mystery here but humor abounds along with a little romance and a bit of risque activity, all in great fun, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a light, funny read.
Sidenote: There have been comparisons between the Lucky O’Toole series and the Jack Daniels series by J.A. Konrath. The only real similarity is that both have a good deal of humor; the Konrath series is far more violent and graphic. A better comparison to Lucky O’Toole is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich (but Lucky is much smarter!)
This new novella by Deborah Coonts was just released on January 17th. This novella, Lucky in Love, fits in between books two and three. Book three, So Damn Lucky, is being released at the end of February. The series focuses on Lucky O'Toole who is the head of Customer Relations for The Babylon, the most amazing hotel in a city full of amazing hotels, Las Vegas.
Coonts, who resides in Las Vegas, knows Vegas! She provides the reader with a realistic and behind the scenes look at Vegas. This novella revolves around a reality series being shot at the hotel. Just a tease of the fascinating world of Lucky and Las Vegas to hold us over for another month.
I love the take no prisoners style of writing that Deb Coonts brings to this series. If you haven't read the earlier to books, Wanna Get Lucky and Lucky Stiff yet, this will give you a preview of this wonderful series for a great price. It is available as a Kindle book on Amazon for $3.44. It is more than time that you discovered this exciting and provocative new writer.
As with the earlier books, Lucky in Love, is filled with fascinating characters from her boyfriend to her parents to her coworkers as well as the newcomers in this novella. And it all revolves around love...what is love...can real love happen in Vegas...does Lucky have love in her life? Vegas is brought to life and by the end of the book you'll be wondering why you haven't booked your next trip there yet! I cannot wait to read the next Lucky adventure, So Damn Lucky!
Lucky finds herself in different sorts of trouble in this book. Everything from a massage parlor gone wrong to contestants hiding secrets, to contestants missing. Also she finds herself wondering about her relationship that seems to have ended the honeymoon phase. She wonders often how to bring the spice back.
What a great novella we see more into the relationship between Lucky, her father "The Boss" and her mother Mona and how after a recent hospital visit and wake up call her Boss has decided to make his relationship with Lucky's mother public. Lucky avoids discussing father/daughter things as she's isn't sure how to cope with it. The contestants for the reality show give Lucky a run for her money trying to keep them out of trouble. In the end the couple to married is a mix of two of the couples with one lucky bride and one groom that no one saw coming.
Lucky in Love is a novella and Love is the key word. It’s not the usual mystery adventure that I’ve come to expect in the series. This week Lucky O’Toole’s primary job is to keep the reality show contestants focused on showing up at the appointed times. Each couple has their own agenda which keeps Lucky busier than normal. On top of everything else she’s worried about the possible changes in her relationship with her boyfriend Teddie.
If you’ve read the previous two novels in the series you’ll recognize characters who make brief appearances. It was fun to see them – especially Teddie.
I enjoyed this short visit to Vegas and Lucky O’Toole’s world.
I don't normally read novellas as there's just not enough meat on their bones for me, but I'm a big Lucky O'Toole fan so I made an exception to my novella ban and gave this one a shot. What a great, satisfying read! Lucky is, as usual, knee-deep in her clients' shenanigans on the Las Vegas strip. Lucky's parents, Teddie, and the rest of the gang from the Babylon all make appearances. The story moves at a good pace, while still giving plenty of attention to detail, and gracing the reader with all the humor we've become accustomed to in this series. Looking forward to the next installment.
I was first introduced to Lucky O'Toole in Chicago's midway airport, while waiting for my delayed-and-delayed-and-delaaaayed flight. I needed something light and easy after a particularly stressful week and fell into this story with a relieved sigh. I've never taken a 6 hour flight delay so easily.
I love the colorful characters and the sense of family amongst this unlikely Las Vegas bunch... Ms. Coonts mixes a perfect blend of humor, strength, and mystery into her writing.
This is a series I'll continue to turn to for quick and entertaining reads.
This was a shorter visit with Lucky and her Las Vegas, but it was no less enjoyable. Deborah Coonts captures Las Vegas like not many authors do -- her descriptions, her use of locations and her vibe on the page ring so true. Lucky is such a likable character, as are her supporting cast. The situation in this novella was wacky, but it's easy to buy -- wacky things happen in Vegas. A great read and a nice taste of Lucky's world until the next novel comes out.
This novella runs about 100 pages (according to Amazon) and is more than satisfying for fans of the Lucky O'Toole series (like me). It takes place after "Lucky Stiff" and before "So Damn Lucky". This novella reads just like the other books in the series and doesn't feel rushed like some novellas do. It feels like a small part of one of her full-length novels and was fun to read. I am looking forward to reading "So Damn Lucky". Lucky is a great character!
This was a fun and fast-paced novella! I won it in a giveaway, and had never heard of this character or series before--after reading this, I'll definitely be checking out the other books starring Lucky!
The best thing about the Lucky O'Toole books by Coonts is the crazy side stories and characters. This short ebook installment was only about the crazy side stories and characters. Not much of a plot, but very funny.
This is a novella featuring Lucky O'Toole. It covers a couple of days in Las Vegas when Teddy has decided to begin him musical career but before he comes a sensation. Lucky has a TV reality show at the hotel which brings many problems. It was a quick read on my Kindle.
This is a bit confusing as it placed between two other tales, which I have already read. However, it is not too hard to jump in and enjoy some outrageous Las Vegas behavior in and around a luxury hotel and casino.
