If anyone asks, I knew better than to flash my boobs for Mardi Gras beads.
I still don’t know why I did it.
Maybe it was the dare from my two best friends.
Maybe it was the guys on the balcony saying they’d throw Fireball shots with the beads.

Yammer Yammer Yammer!!!
Between the incessant pointless and unfunny dialogue between the heroine Mellie and her two BFF's and the non-stop inappropriate verbal volleying between the heroine and her new boss, I got a huge migraine!! It was just over-the-damn-top!!!
In the beginning, It was cute how the heroine was clumsy but the author pushed the formula and overworked silly situations, turning her heroine into an embarrassed, blundering, mouthy clown of a character. The constant rom-com became ridiculous and killed all the romance in the story. (for me)
Oh! these two go at it all the time like two pre teens. Its really unfortunate that by the end of the book, they basically know shit about each other. How is that ok?
The heroine basically resists the hero until the end of the book, where they have the most anti-climactic, boring sex I've read in years!! I am not lying folks!! They do it once, for what feels like 2 minutes, and then the book goes to the epilogue.

3 “Hot Mess” Stars
Mellie is a hotel manager in New Orleans, and during Mardi Gras when she’s going out with her friends they make the drunk decision of flash their boobs to random strangers on a dare. They do and they don’t think about it again, after all it is Mardi Gras and they were strangers anyway.
But unfortunately next day at work she finds that the “stranger” is no one other than her new boss who recently bought the hotel where she works. And if their first encounter is unconventional , the next ones aren’t going to be much better. Especially when their relationship and what they want is anything but conventional.
This was a funny and cute romantic comedy, and since it’s not a very long book makes it a nice light reading. And yes, even though it was an enjoyable reading I had some issues with it, starting with how many times the MC’s kept thing about “their teenage self”, most people will probably not care about that, but annoyed the heck out of me. I get it, we were all teenagers before, we all did stupid things (guilty!), but enough is enough… no one thinks about their teenage years that much.
But more than the heroine’s immaturity, more than the forced dialogue which really did it for me was the lack of professionalism. I’m a hospitality worker, I know how hotels work. I work over 70 hours a week in one… and even if the director and the manager were having sex 50 times a day with each other, they would never be half as unprofessional and careless as Mellie and Jake. Yeah, I know, “it’s fiction”, but I believe that all fiction should at least have a reality basis where some research was made.
But anyway, if you’re looking for a light romantic comedy for a quick fix, yeah, you’ll probably like this book.
Rating: 3 Stars.
Characters Development: Mellie started as funny, a little crazy (like all 20 somethings have the right to be sometimes!!), and adorably clumsy… but that clumsiness soon stooped being adorable and started to be extremely annoying. It was too much, and from funny and adorable she soon started looking as immature and the “hot mess” turned into “mess”. She was one of my issues with this book. Jake was sexy and sweet and I liked him for the most part, although for someone who just made a huge investment (I’m guessing hotels aren’t exactly found on off-license shops), he spent more time worried about flirting with his manager than actually doing some work. Mellie’s friends looked alright and I’ll probably going to read their books, but the dialogue between the three of them did seem forced at times, like they were trying too hard to be funny.

I'm giving 0 stars to myself, in addition to 1 star to the book itself. After all, I didn't have to read it and probably should not be writing a review, since I'm definitely not the target reader for it. I'm gonna play the Age Card here and blame everything on my feeble, aging brain and its accompanying faulty memory. I pre-ordered this book because I mistook Emma Hart for another contemporary romance author that I like. So I apologize in advance for this review with opinions likely not shared by many other readers, but I really, really feel the need to vent.
Plot in a nutshell: Heroine Mellie is manager of a New Orleans hotel which has recently been purchased by a new owner. The day before said owner is to arrive Mellie goes out drinking with her two best friends. It's Mardi Gras, the time when women flash their boobs for beads, and Mellie is dared to do this by her BFFs. So when they pass a group of guys including one that is especially hunky, up goes her blouse.
Next day she's at work and the new owner, Jake, arrives. Yep, it's that hunky guy she flashed the day before. Well, now, isn't that embarrassing? Not only that, but Jake needs an office and there are none available so he'll be sharing Mellie's.
Basically that's the story. The boob flash and the close proximity working in the same office lead to inappropriate sexual attraction and sexual innuendo between boss and employee and finally to an HEA in which they agree to be inappropriate outside the office, instead of inside. This is not a good book for anyone sensitive to the #MeToo movement except that Mellie behaves just as inappropriately as her boss, so there is that.
So you may say, "Well, what's wrong with all that?" Sounds like fun. Well, I guess...Except that all the characters are shallower than a puddle. They are all in their late 20s or early 30s yet act like horny teenagers. Their behavior and interactions and conversations are immature, verging on stupid, totally lacking any cleverness or wit or humor beyond first-year-high-school level. While reading this I began to wonder if the author was a big joker insulting the intelligence of her readers or if readers should be wondering about the author's intelligence level.
Conversations are all about boobs, dicks or doughnuts and full of juvenile innuendo. No one has a serious or intelligent thought to express ever. Scenes in the book include the boob flash, eating doughnuts, discussions about putting down the toilet seat, shopping for office furniture, going on a tour of New Orleans, and some cooking lessons.
What a waste of my time. I read the whole thing as punishment for choosing poorly and in the hopes that from now on this author's name will be engrained in my feeble brain as a Do Not Buy.

I really wanted to like this, especially because I'm a sucker for office romance books, but unfortunately this really wasn't working for me. If I'm being honest, the book could really really use an editor. There are blatant grammatical errors and sentences that didn't flow well, and it took me out of the story every time it happened (which was often).
Aside from the lack of editing, I struggled with the overall plot. The gist is that Mellie flashes a group of men during a Mardi Gras celebration, and one of the men ends up being her new boss. That's all fine. What I took issue with was the fact that the boss constantly brought up her boobs/the flashing, which seemed wildly inappropriate. I just could buy into it, because I feel like it just wasn't realistic at all. Overall, this wasn't a winner for me, and I rated it 1.5 stars.

Emma Hart is my go to author for romantic comedy. And after the last book I read, that was exactly what I was looking for. The Upside to Being Single is a sexy, witty, and feel good romance that will leave you begging for more.
Millie was someone I absolutely loved. If there's one thing I love about Emma, it's the fact she creates some of the strongest, most independent and sassy heroines. I also adored her friends. I really do hope that they get their own book. Jake and Millie had some crazy hot chemistry and I loved, loved, loved seeing them together at the beginning. It was something that I was desperately looking for and got; great banter and laugh out loud moments.
TUTBS is a heartwarming book that will make you want to buy a ticket to New Orleans and go to Mardi Gras hoping to find your own prince charming.

Absolutely HILARIOUS! Both SEXY and insanely RIDICULOUS, this is one CRAZY TRAIN that I never wanted to get off of! Emma Hart is and WILL ALWAYS BE my spirit animal!
What is there left to say, really? I mean, it’s an Emma Hart Romantic Comedy! No one does Rom-Com quite like the queen! THE UPSIDE TO BEING SINGLE is Mellie and Jake’s story. It’s the first of three that follow Mellie, Peyton, and Chloe. So while this is a standalone there will be over-arching storylines. And hey, whatever gives me more of these three crazy women, I’m ALL FREAKING IN!
This INCREDIBLY funny romance is all about the awkward meet-cutes, the comedic and snort-inducing banter, the overindulgence of donuts, insane friendship goals, and enough sexual tension to set your reading device aflame! Mellie and Jake are so freaking cute, I can’t stand it. The patience that Jake holds is ridiculous. It just showed how much these two crazy characters were meant to be. Don’t even get me started on the three musketeers i.e. Mellie, Peyton, and Chloe. When they get together, they are on a whole other level. And the wonderful backdrop that is New Orleans was the perfect setting for this book and the books to follow.
This is mostly in Mellie’s POV, but we do get little treats that are Jake’s POV mixed in, which I wanted MORE of! With each chapter brought a hilarious heading telling us what IS the upside to being single and I thought that was an amazing touch on an already fantastic romance read. I’m not surprised in the least that I absolutely LOVED and ADORED this book, these characters, and this storyline. Emma Hart is my absolute GO TO in this genre and of course, she never disappoints. I can’t wait for Peyton and Chloe’s stories. I’m already giggling like crazy, thinking of what the future holds for these characters!

And just a warning! Reading THE UPSIDE TO BEING SINGLE will cause an excessive urge to run out and buy donuts. It may cause heavy texting between your best girlfriends. It will cause a need to purchase a plane ticket to New Orleans. It will definitely give you the urge to head out during Mardi Gras and flash a random cutie, hoping to find a Jake of your very own!

I absolutely adore Emma Hart and her novels as they always have a sassy heroine and a hot alpha male. There is something about the spirited back and forth banter and the hot chemistry between her protagonists that I just love because it always has me devouring her books in one sitting. That is exactly what we received in The Upside to Being Single with Jake and Mellie. To just call this book an office romance would be a crime as it is so much more!! Jake and Mellie were fantastic!
When Mellie and her two girlfriends have one too many drinks during a night out during Mardi Gras, a dare gets thrown and then the shenanigans begin. But what happens when two days later the mysterious man who saw her flash her goods turns out to be her sexy new boss! What follows is a fast paced story full of sassy wit, laughs and hearts.
I loved this story as it was another example of an amazing "feel good"sexy romance from this author. I can't wait for her next one! 4 stars! ~Ratula

Deja Vu
I feel as if we have all read this same character in every book since Noelle Bond. It's like the author has forgotten how to write characters with individual personalities. These girls are even obsessed with baked goods!
Editing! For the love of Mike, slow down and catch the errors.
Honestly, Mellie ( her full name would have been better) acted like a bratty child, not an adult woman. Jake owned the hotel, she had no right giving him hell about any of his decisions. And grow up about the boobs! They aren't gold plated!
The only reason I gave this two stars is because I actually liked Jake. He was a great guy, no brooding!

Mardi Gras is a festival to let loose in and enjoy New Orleans. Mellie is having fun with her girls before her new boss arrives in town. Little does she know she already met him when she flashed her boobs. Now she is a hot mess and the new boss is even steamier.
Quick wit banter and a flirty boss can only lead to one thing... Mellie is about to learn the upside of being single.

The Upside of Being Single by Emma Hart is a deliciously, sexy, funny, and ridiculously entertaining!!! Seriously, Emma Hart nails it when it comes to romantic comedy. She can turn and make an awkward situation into something so charming. Since this book was a fun laugh out loud feel good romance, Emma Hart does really showcase that being single is not woe is me but there are fun moments of being single. So if you are looking for a fun romance that highlights friendship, being single, and love then look no further than this book.

This is my first book from Emma Hart and the minute I saw boobs and boss in the same sentence, I knew this would be just the thing I needed!
Jake is Mellie’s new boss and yes, he’s already seen her boobs. They are attracted to each other almost immediately, yet Mellie knows dating your boss could potentially lead to disaster. Jake, well, he knows it too but he just doesn’t care. He wants Mellie.
The Upside of Being Single is hilarious. You will laugh with Mellie and Jake, hell, you will definitely laugh at Mellie, with all of the things that only seem to happen when she’s around Jake. The banter between Jake and Mellie was fun and sarcasm at its best. Mellie and her friends = comedy gold. I loved everything about the three of them. They were hilarious and I could totally relate with them all!
Jake is like...WHOA. Even though he is Mellie’s boss, he respects what Mellie has done as manager of the hotel, but yet he is not giving up on the sparks that are most definitely flying between the two of them. The way Jake wooed her with doing something small almost every single day for her, that’s romance!
The Upside to Being Single is an absolute gem. I loved every single moment of this book and want to go back and read it again!
Jake is Mellie’s new boss and yes, he’s already seen her boobs. They are attracted to each other almost immediately, yet Mellie knows dating your boss could potentially lead to disaster. Jake, well, he knows it too but he just doesn’t care. He wants Mellie.
The Upside of Being Single is hilarious. You will laugh with Mellie and Jake, hell, you will definitely laugh at Mellie, with all of the things that only seem to happen when she’s around Jake. The banter between Jake and Mellie was fun and sarcasm at its best. Mellie and her friends = comedy gold. I loved everything about the three of them. They were hilarious and I could totally relate with them all!
Jake is like...WHOA. Even though he is Mellie’s boss, he respects what Mellie has done as manager of the hotel, but yet he is not giving up on the sparks that are most definitely flying between the two of them. The way Jake wooed her with doing something small almost every single day for her, that’s romance!
The Upside to Being Single is an absolute gem. I loved every single moment of this book and want to go back and read it again!

Ok, so I don't really like to be harsh, but I also don't like to spend money on a book that clearly has not been edited. I can over look a lot, and understand no one is perfect...perfection is NOT expected...but sentences that make sense are. Wrong words, repeated words, missing words...all take me out of the story. Then we have the issue of almost 30 year old adults acting like they are in middle school, and I not talking about just a side character, it's everyone in the book.
So, while I liked the premise of this story it's execution was lacking for me.

Mardi Gras is a time to live it up and party hard. There is copious amounts of alcohol and beads for all. Emma Hart latest release The Upside of Being Single turns the Mardi Gras experience into a rom-com of epic proportions.
A dare from her best friends ends with Mellie flashing the goods; after all, she’ll never see these guys again, right? Wrong! When Jake shows up as her new boss things get a little awkward and a whole lot heated.
This is a ridiculously hilarious read. Everything you want in a romantic comedy and everything you expect from Emma Hart. From fireball shots and Mardi Gras beads to comedic banter and donuts, Jake and Mellie’s journey to love is both romantic and amusing. I absolutely adored Jake’s pursuit of Mellie, all the small cutesy meaningful gestures.
I cannot write this review without saying how much I love Peyton and Chloe, Mellie’s BFFs and the instigators of the flashing incident. Their friendship is the kind that is solid and strong, yet fun. I wanted to be a part of their antics.

Well, this was a disappointment. I was so excited to read this. I just found it odd. There was not a lot going on in this book. No conflict. No getting to know each other. Not even crappy insta-love happened in this book. It was just a book full of random conversations and work situations between a bunch of one dimensional characters.
-Girl shows guy boobs.
-She finds out said guy is her boss.
-She's a klutz who keeps breaking things and embarrassing herself in front of boss.
-Almost every chapter has something about donuts in it.
-Lots of interactions with her two best friends.
-Boss flirts with clumsy girl

Kitaba başladım, "Sonunda aradığım romantik komediyi buldum" diye sevindim deli gibi. Çünkü hakikaten çok eğlenceli bir havası var. Gerek diyaloglar, gerek iç sesler. I started the book and said, "I finally found the romantic comedy I'm looking for," I was delighted. Because it really has a lot of fun in it. Both dialogues, and internal thoughts wise. Around the middle I said, "Nice, but as good as 4/5,". I finished the book, two days passed, now I just say "meh". I do not understand why it happened.
We have a very fun meet cute event in the beginning. Mellie goes out for a drink with her friends and makes a frenzy for the frenzy of the festival, showing off her breasts to people she does not know. The man she thought that she will never saw again is the new owner of the hotel she works at. Jake likes Mellie too, and with sharing the same office and all, the attraction is inevitable. But the girl is so clumsy, every time they come together, things happen. Hah, that's just a little too much for me. At first, it seemed like cute, but as the increase of the dose, it did not want to read it anymore. And everybody can think differently, but here I am - the spoilers here - since I am not a person who believes in happy endings, I would prefer at the end of the book, the characters should be happily married with children and if possible, aged and died.
But apart from these, it's a sweet book that has a lot of fun :)

The one thing I can always count on from Emma Hart is her wicked sense of humor. She’s the master of double entendres. Her characters engage in clever cat and mouse games until their inevitable submission to their real desires.
Melanie “Mellie” Rogers has been managing an aging hotel in New Orleans for the last four years. With an owner who wants no input at all, it’s been left up to her to keep things running smoothly. But the hotel was recently purchased by a new owner and she’s left wondering what changes will be coming her way.
She’s out with her friends during Mardi Gras to blow off some steam. Chloe and Peyton are a bit crazy and there just might a few too many cocktails. When Mellie reveals she’s never flashed her breasts for beads, they make sure that’s not going to last any longer. Of course, Mellie is braless and knows she will come to regret this. There’s a group of men sitting on a balcony when Mellie debuts her breasts. One catches her eye and enjoys the show. Mellie’s got a bad feeling about this…
“You never have to see them again. You wouldn’t recognize them at an empty bus stop.”
Yeah, well, if she was wrong, I was going to kill her.
We all know where this is going, right? Jacob Creed is the hotel’s new owner. Yep, he recognizes Mellie the moment they meet. And he’s not above teasing the hell out of her about it.
“I don’t see it being awkward at all. I promise not to sit across from you and picture you topless.”
The story is funny, the characters are genuine (we get Jacob’s POV and being a typical guy, of course he wants to bed Mellie, but he really likes her!) and the best part-the author has great knowledge of Mardi Gras and gives us lots of behind the scenes tidbits. King cakes, and creole foods and the best restaurants made me hungry while reading the story. I’ve only been there once, but I have a whole bucket list of things to try the next time I go.

Peyton and Chloe’s stories are coming up. Chloe has been in love with Peyton’s brother, Dom for years so I can’t wait to see how that plays out!

This book is probably not the best book to be my 1st review of 2018.
But alas, we can’t win them all they say.
Now don’t get me wrong, The Upside to Being Single definitely had great perks about it otherwise I never would have finished it. It was funny, there was no angst, there was no woman hating shaming, there was 2 people getting to know each other and like each other. The other plus was that it took up to 95% before the 2 MCs had sex. I know lots of people need sex in their romance novels. I really really don’t! Personally I prefer sexual tension and the feelings that are associated with the struggle and the lust. The I want you so fucking bad I’m gonna go out of my mind. Those are the best kind of stories for me.
So now why was it just ok? I prefer more of a show don’t tell. I need to feel the feelings that are coming off the pages and honestly I just didn’t with this book.
Also this book needed to be edited. I don’t have a problem with spelling mistakes because I am able to get the gist of the story but this one missed words and some sentence structure was messed up. I still was able to finish it so it wasn’t that bad…
In essence I liked the blurb way more than I loved the story.
And I will read book 2 cause even though its a stand alone the 2 best friends look to be getting a story.

Omg I need the books of her friends finding love ASAP.
The Upside to Being Single was a really fun audiobook to listen to. I think there is just something about Emma Hart's words/books that just puts me in a better mood. It doesn't even matter if it's just comedy, smut, or anything else happening. I'm just in an overall better mood and that makes me happier. Plus, her quick books are helping me get caught up in my reading challenge.. which is drastically suffering this year. Ugh, work projects and meetings are killing my reading vibe.
Need to bring it back up.
Besides all of that, again, I loved this book. It all got crazy after a boob flashing for some beads during Mardi Gras. It was even funnier when it just happened to be her new boss. Lord, things got hot and heavy between Millie and Jacob. They were too hot too handle and I enjoyed every second of their forbidden work romance. They were both managers.. so I don't think it's that bad.
I laughed so hard and so much throughout this audio. Mostly because Millie and her friends were downright hilarious. Which is why I need their freaking love books ASAP. I need them back in my life and I want to laugh at their crazy ass love lives next.

***4 ‘It’s All About the Donuts’ Stars***
The title peaked my interest, but it was the first line of the blurb that truly hooked me. I mean how can you not be even mildly curious about a romance that starts off with the main female character flashing her boobs and then finding out that one of the spectators just so happens to be her new boss? I obviously needed to know how everything played out and what a ride it was. This book was a fun and quick read that was sweet and smexy that had me laughing out loud even as my eyes rolled at the situations the characters found themselves in.
Jake and Mellie definitely kept me on my toes throughout the book. Mellie is that mix of sweet and snarky and when you throw in her quirks, which there are a few, it was hard not to find her endearing even when I found myself rolling my eyes at some of her...reactions. Jake is blunt, calm and has a sneaky sort of charm that has tends to pull the truth out of you, when you are trying so hard to avoid it.
Their journey to their HEA starts out with a bang and doesn’t let up one bit as the story progresses. The push/pull between them was intense, and at times a little OTT, but I have to admit that it kept things real interesting as I waited for them to just give into the chemistry that blazed between them whenever they were in the same vicinity. I loved the slow burn/build of their relationship and I really like where they are in their relationship at the end of the book.
The Upside of Being Single was a fun read. The writing was engaging, the pacing good and I enjoyed the first person POV. One of the things I really enjoyed were the fun little what I’m going to call “tid bits” at the beginning of each chapter, they had me chuckling and extremely interested to find out what was going to happen. As for the supporting cast of characters, I loved Peyton and Chloe, Mellie’s two BFF’s, they were all kinds of crazy goodness and I cannot wait to get my hands on their books to see how their own journey’s to their HEA’s will play out, especially since it looks like they are both going to be quite bumpy.

She is strong. She is blunt and has no filter. She is a hot mess and never backs down from a challenge. When she meets Jake, all bets are off. Not only is he sexy, but he is cocky as ever. He gives just as good as he gets and has no problem handling Mellie. Yes, when she meets Jake, she quickly discovers that she has finally met her match.
The Upside to Being Single is a great workplace romance that is filled with classic Emma Hart humor. The story-line is entertaining and the banter will give you a run for your money. Only Emma Hart can make snark filled banter into the hottest sexual tension. The Upside to Being Single is a cute and funny story that didn't quite do it for me. The synopsis and cover are to die for and the meet cute... perfection.
Unfortunately for me, that's about all it was. Cute. I feel like more should have happened, but the entire book took place within two weeks, which makes sense as to why we only get an HFN, but I really wanted more from this couple. I'm a lover of the big fall out and the big grand gesture, the big HEA, babies. You get the idea, but that isn't what we got with this story.
That said, I really did enjoy the characters! I loved how clumsy Mellie was, the girl was a total disaster tripping all over herself and slipping on thin air. I giggle and how much of klutz she was. Even with that she was able to run a hotel all on her own. Jacob was sweet and dealt with her hot messness like a champ and knew what he wanted and went after it.

The Upside to Being Single was quick read where a boss and employee with amazing chemistry attempted to dance around each other in battle of wills to keep their relationship non-existent. Although this was a good story, it just didn't check all of my boxes.

So we follow three bestfriends who are all in their mid 20's, Mellie, Peyton and Chloe. The story centers on Millie who works as a hotel manager. Her two bestfriends dare her to flash some guy for beads during a Mardi Gras festival which she has never done before and she's 100% sure she will never see him again. Little did she know the hotel that she manage's gets a new boss Jacob Creed aka Mr. Creed aka Jake who is indeed the man she flashed for beads. As Mellie and Jake try to work in the same office with constantly fighting eith each other and answering to each other's questions with witty comments, they get closer and the sexual tension amplifies. It is almost attraction at first sight.
Can two people (an employee and an employer) who work together date or will Mellie need to find a new job?
This book was one of the most funniest book I've read this year so far. It was cheesy and eye-rolling but in the mean time hilarious. I like how close the main protagonist was with her two highschool bestfriends. Altough the ending was a kind of a cliffhanger, I became annoyed, and only a few minutes later I find out that there wouldn't be one but two more companion novels for this story about Peyton and the other one would be about Chloe. So, I'm really looking forward for the other books.

The classic case of a book having incessant pointless banter and dialogues that is NOT funny
No drama nothing but mostly talking about shit like Mellie argue with Jake about putting down the toilet seat, Mellie argue with Jake about something that is alligator and Mellie teaching Jake how to cook etc etc and many more pointless dialogues between Mellie and her besties
Yes yes we know Mellie flash Jake her boobs and Jake being the idiot that he is can't go a second without bringing it up and Mellie too can't go a second without bringing up how over the top clumsy he is. Its Not funny pls

Wonderful banter. I kind of got a headache after awhile. I skimmed to the end.
