This book was just ok. It didn't blow me away or anything. The plot was pretty predictable, and I felt like I had read many things like it before.

Das Buch ist definitiv nicht perfekt aber das Ende schockt mich jedes Mal. Die Story ist eine typische Teenager Story mit einem hoffentlich untypischen Ende. Einem ist früh bewusst worauf die Story hinaus will. Die Übersetzung ist nicht die beste aber stört beim lesen nicht sonderlich. Trotzdem lese ich es alle paar Jahre wieder.

Diane Tullsons Roman Wie im Rausch erzählt die Geschichte eines Mädchens namens Truth. Truth ist eine gute Schülerin, hat eine Basketball spielende Freundin namens Skye, arbeitet in den Ferien in einer Pizzeria und sie ist verliebt in Ryan. Außerdem trinkt sie und das nicht gerade wenig. Das führt gegen Ende des Romans zur völligen Katastrophe, ein Autounfall nimmt Ryan das Leben und ihre Freundin Skye verliert einen Arm und kann nie wieder Basketball spielen.

Neben dem Alkoholmissbrauch und der ersten Liebe steht vor allem das Thema Freundschaft im Mittelpunkt - was macht eine gute Freundschaft aus und im Rahmen welcher Zwänge müssen wir oft handeln? Warum tun wir Dinge oft nur, weil sie zu unserem eigenen Vorteil zu sein scheinen?

Ich würde das Buch als leicht zu lesendes Problem-Jugendbuch bezeichnen. Die Sprache ist (auch in der Übersetzung aus dem KaHnadischen) einfach und jugendgemäß. Inhaltlich lassen sich gerade in Bezug auf das Thema Freundschaft und Erwachsenwerden und Verantwortung für das eigene Handeln übernehmen interessante Aspekte entdecken. Mit der Darstellung des Alkohols und mit dem wirklich dramatischen Unfall am Ende habe ich Probleme, das eine ist mir zu leichtfertig, das andere zu krass.

This was a pretty true to life "realistic fiction", sad to say!
Not to give anything away, but any students that might think drinking never really hurts anyone....YIKES
