Frankenstein, Deborah Tempest
Delightful retelling, reminding me of subtle nuances in the story, example, "I prefer to sleep, because in my dreams I see my old friends."
Charming illustrations. 4 stars because, hey, it's Frankenstein

Not like the movies -- but so much better!

A surprising, moving read. This is, from what I can gather, the original 1818 version. My physical copy, which I believe to be the 1831 version, is somewhat different. I haven't read that one through yet, but, I ma going to read it next and see how many differences I can find.
The narration is EXCELLENT, and really does a wonderful job differentiating between characters. Interestingly, Frankenstein's voice has colors of the monster's voice at the end, and I wonder if it was intentional. Masterfully done, if so, bc you can HEAR the transition in Frankenstein's voice as he... ... goes through his experiences in the novel.
Highly recommend this version! LOVED it!

A very good retelling of Frankenstein, geared towards English learners, but good also for children who are not yet able to handle tackling the original text. My son and I read this aloud together, and he and I really enjoyed the beautiful watercolor illustrations that accompanied this edition. My son also had great compassion for the monster creating, understanding why the monster felt the way he did. If only his creator had loved him instead of rejecting him! My son understood that sometimes we make people who they are by how we treat them.

4. Can you make a friend of monsters?
- Yes, I can. If they are kind, I want to become friend of them.

5. This book was really interesting. I've heard the name 'Frankenstein', but I didn't know much about him. I've thought that he was just an ugly man. However, I understood that he was very kind man at first. I learned how love is important.

Very interesting story about responsibility for things we are doing. I think, you become responsible for what you have made. I think, that Frankenstein was coward. He could save some people if he told the true...
