D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist).
Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and “shredding that green pow” on his Onewheel.
Most nights you can find him sitting on the couch surrounded by his dogs and family, trying to stream an hour of Netflix with his really sketchy satellite internet connection.

Let me begin by stating this series "Grower's War" is an action packed suspense thriller which will keep you spell bound to a great extent. For this reason, I found these three books a lot of fun and exciting to read. For a simply fun, relaxing and enjoyable read, to so someplace else, to get away from the hustle and bustle of work, politics, etc., this is a great escape read.
I commend D.J. Molles for his writing style. These are fast reading, action packed, on the edge of your seat stories, which captures and engages you in the stories. Fasten you seat belts, because you are off at a fast pace from page five on, right up to the, where the last few pages bring you down to idle and you get the chance to finally catch your breath.
Books one and two flowed well together. Book three, did the same, but I found it to be more predictable than the other two. Mr. Molles was bringing the series to an end and because of that, it took on predictability. Not bad, but lost some of the suspense indicative of the previous two books.
My biggest criticism about the whole series, was the lack of background as to how the country ended up being governed by three powers. You are simply dropped right into the heart of an international coalition, with little to no explanation, it just simply exists. Is it necessary to know the background; not really, but it is a nagging question which continually lingers while reading the whole series.
Mr. Molles development of characters are real and believable. Accompanied by an engaging and believable story line, you are drawn in, care for and engaged with characters. By the time you get to book three, all the characters in the previous two books, all come together, and became a bit tedious or trying in understanding who was who, but not overly so.
I have not read any other of Mr. Molles previous works, and therefore do not know if his writing style is always this fast paced. Not that you will ever find yourself trying to keep up, not at all, for Mr. Molles propels you into the story, very quickly, keeps the action going, with short respites to catch your breath, then your off again. The pace makes for an exciting read, keeps you engaged.
If you appreciate this gandra, if you are looking a good escape book, action packed and lots of fun, this series is written for you.
I loved The Remaining series so this series was a no-brainer. Of the 3 books in A Grower's War, this one is easily my favorite. The action was so intense I couldn't put it down. I won't talk about the story because spoilers suck, but I will say that book 3 is a fantastic semi-conclusion with an open end to make room for the story to continue. I'm excited to read the next book already!
In closing the series (?) Molles fuills the last book with lots of action and puts things together. There are some things that should have been adresserad more in terms of background (or in the first 2 books) like Agent Goring, but overall a very good and fast paced book with lots of action, making you not want to put it down.
I was reading, and wondering how it could possibly end here. Things were up, things were down, and then all of a sudden BOOM stuff explodes and you just don't know what's gonna happen! I have to say DJ Molles writes one captivating, action packed tale! I kinda wish there was an extra story, telling us what happens after the after :D
The only thing that could make it better is a second trilogy. :D
Seriously. Perhaps two misspelled words early in the book. The entire rest of the book was entirely subversive. I caught myself trying to speed read repeatedly trying time absorb the story a fast as possible. Congratulations to the author et al. Well done. :)
Excellent finale to a really fun series. I'll definitely bread more from Molles. I enjoyed the evolution of the characters as they were forced into roles they could've never imagined for themselves. Comradery, loyalty, and more than a few sets of big brass balls did the trick for me, and I was honestly happy about the open ended Hollywood happy ending. Good read.
I've been a fan of DJ Molles for several years now and finally decided to read this series. It's as action-packed as The Remaining and Lee Harden series, so if you like those, you'll like this one. This book is a satisfying end to this series, and I'm happy with it. Great job, DJ!
Good conclusion to this series. Closes out some loose ends. Leaves the possibility of the series taking a different turn with new lead characters. This work is very consistent in quality to his other series. Both of which are highly enjoyable.
I enjoyed the exciting conclusion. This is one of the series where an author could keep writing installments and the story never really progresses. So, I’m glad that he wrapped it up for now.
DJ Molles nicely wraps up this excellent series with lots of suspense and vivid characters. This series is very thought provoking in our current time of chaotic governance and eroding freedoms.
Book 3 kept me reading. Just when I thought a plan was going to work out for Walt and Gretty some thing happened. Would like some more of the after story. The advantages of Bobbi and Gretty . Walt the sea captain could be the next Moby Dick. Hahaha
Again, D.J. Moles delivers an outstanding story! I fell in love with the characters and their story. Found myself apprehensive at every twist and turn and not able.to put it down until the end! GREAT READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
I just can’t get enough of DJ Molles and this continuance to the series is just perfect for me. This book satisfied a lot of my wonderings so overall I thought it was great!
All in all the series is very entertaining with very human characters and plenty of intrigue and action. Hopefully Walt and Carolyn will get the peace they wish for.
This book was by and far the best of the three. Kept me awake much too long the last two nights, but well worth it. Never stops on the drama or the action. Believable characters, environment, etc.
Good book series. Molles knows how to tell conflict stories. Only issue is end seems rushed and you never learn why the central plot of the story comes to be or if it actually changes at the end.
Book #3, "Rogue Cell", in the "A Grower's War" series came as a surprise because it turns out to be the final book in a trilogy. At the crawling rate the series had progressed in books 1 and 2, I'd figured there were two or three books needed to tie everything up neatly. Wrong.
The series tells the tale of the Baucom brothers, Roy and Walter, who are trying to fight the Coalition (an alliance between urban Blue staters, Russia, and China) which is working to quell uprisings by agrarian Red staters in the USA.
For some reason, rather than pad out the series an additional few books for mucho dinero, D. J. Molles opted to boost the storyline's velocity until the ending comes rushing up, resolving things nicely. There's a lot of action, and as in Molles's "The Remaining" series, a main character loses at least one tooth (I don't know why but having characters get shot or stabbed or whatever is bad, but losing a tooth seems like the author is demeaning his creations).
I liked the series well enough, but I think I'm done with D. J. Molles for a while. I couldn't connect with his protagonists because they never struck me as being particularly competent nor likable. I actually found, Goring, the ruthless Federal agent, to be much more fascinating and intelligent than anybody on the rebel side.
Still, Rogue Cell was a rousing climax to the series, so I'm giving it 5 stars.
Christian Rummel, the narrator, did a fine job of creating distinct voices for men and women as usual.
Yet another great book from D.J. Molles in the series following Walt as he tries to find his brother and wife and struggles to embrace his position in the group leading renegades to try to get free from the CoAx. I enjoyed the way the story was wrapped up.
I loved this series and couldn’t put it down. It’s one of those books you stay awake until 3am trying to finish because it’s that great. Absolutely phenomenal writing. You feel like you are in the fight and the adventure fills every single page. Highly recommend.
