OMG, what a laugh!

Think James Bond meets Danger Mouse and Penfold. In the future. In space

Detective Inspector Capstan has just woken up in 2459 having been cryogenically frozen in 2017. He has been reinstated at his old rank to the new version of the police - The United Kingdom of America Space Police. As he is adjusting to his new circumstances, he also has to try to solve the case of the missing fishing trawlers (yep, they still have these in the 25th century) and the theft of the very last fish finger from an exhibition of 21st century life.

I loved Capstan, but I adored Lieutenant Dewbush, who seems to be the sweetest man, and acts like an innocent abroad. Very Penfold. Also, Obadiah, the Bondesque megalomaniac villain, albeit with huge yellow duck feet, is brilliantly described, as is his dastardly plan.

The story was everything I wanted it to be - utterly ridiculous and totally preposterous, and brilliant fun because of that. It's not subtle - the Mammary Clans being a personal favourite. There is also a social media app called Slaptwat, which is so much better than the actual name of the app it's based on that I will be using it from now on! And it's genius that this is a comedy written in a future where joke telling has been banned since 2367.

This was a very welcome change from the normal stuff I read, and I am very much looking forward to reading more by this author.

A very fun and completely silly read. Not quite as surprising as the first one, but if you like Douglas Adams, give this one a try.

I'd got a bit bogged down in all my reading. Thrillers were becoming all too predictable and I was getting a bit fed up of being a patsy to all the authors out there who think that duping a reader means that they don't have to try too hard in other areas so, what better to cleanse my palate than a bonkers romp through space. I mean, I did the same thing with book one of the series and it worked really well.
So this is book two but there is enough recap so you really don't need to read book one but, to be honest, I think it would be better if you did!
So, we join our dynamic duo literally just after they have triumphed against the Mammary Clans and they have been given another case to investigate; the disappearance of a bunch of fishing trawlers. But then they are embroiled into a different sort of case. On a visit to London, they witness the theft of "the final fish finger" which was on display in the museum they were eating lunch in. Further investigation of the scene leads them first to a baked bean factory in Cornwall and then much further afield as they try to track the fishy item down. There's a lot more going on in this book, mostly fish related, but I'll leave you to find out in your own time.
Like book one, I had an absolute blast whilst reading this book. It was an easy read for me as I didn't have to think too much whilst reading. That's not to say it isn't substantial. The plot is delightfully convoluted and intricate, and contains a couple of interesting, interconnected arcs that meander around for the most part and come together in the most delightful way at the end. It's also full of the most wonderful humour, yes it's a bit schoolboy and puerile at times but delivered in a way that it just all works. As long as you are on the same wavelength as the author that is.
Capstan and Dewbush are just one of the greatest pairings ever in this genre of book. Capstan is supposed to be the senior of the two but, due to certain circumstances, it is Dewbush that has to take the lead in most cases, local knowledge and all that. Although, that said, he isn't very good with the whole ideas thing! All this leads to a very interesting dynamic which also adds to the refreshing nature of this book, and indeed series.
Yes it's a bit bonkers and cliched and, well includes loads of stuff that probably shouldn't work together. But it works. I don't know how or why but it really does. Well, it works for me anyway but I can see how others may not agree so I will repeat what I said in my review for book one. Try the sample before you commit. There is enough stuff in that for you to determine whether you will gel with the style, humour and characters. Better still, try the sample for book one and start at the beginning.
All in all, a solid follow up to a great series opener. I'm off to sniff out book three.

I was gifted an ARC of this book by the author, in exchange for a voluntary, honest review.

Well Capstan & Dewbush are at it again. These two dunderheads continue to survive their idiotic attempts to solve crimes. As well, they manage to actually solve the crimes! It is just plain old laugh-out-loud British comedy. I'm not going to include any spoilers in my review to persuade you to consider purchasing this book, just go ahead and buy it, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

NB. If you haven't already bought and read Space Police: Attack of the Mammary Clan (Book One), then I recommend you also buy it at the same time. You'll get just as many laughs out of it. Even though they could be considered stand-alone books, there is the establishment of the characters profile, interaction with each other and continuity of scenarios. Don't worry, Capstan and Dewbush are just as stupid in this one.

Something fishy is going on...
Another madcap romp with Capstan and future Dewbush! This time they're on the trail of "the final fish finger" which is stolen from the British Museum, while they are eating lunch waiting to go and view said fishy item.
Their search takes them from Cornwall, to China (where everything is made) and even to Ganymede, orbiting Jupiter.
Will they find the fish finger? Or has someone eaten it? And how do they always seem to find themselves in the middle of intergalactic crises?
Laugh out loud funny, fast paced exciting adventure with a sci fi flavour. Looking forward to the next installment of Space Police 👮 🐟🐟

A great story Capstan and Dewbush are now on the search for some missing fishing trawlers and end up on the search for the last fish finger too! Course they’re linked. The incompetence of them is enjoyable yet they also seem to come ahead of the game by finding the culprit and solving the crimes.
Looking forward to the next story!

Another hugely enjoyable madcap ride straight out of the head of David Blake. A brilliantly funny journey with Capstan and Co. I say brilliantly funny, at one point I did the tea sneeze thing, hot tea too! A feel good, smiley tale and brilliantly written. Overuse of the word brilliant? Nope, read it it’s...brilliant.

What a gaggle of giggles gush forth in this the next epic adventure with the hapless duo. "Catsbum" is the best personification of sarcasm and wit which as we know is wholly illegal and therefore frowned upon by the law. We all know something fishy is happening but can they put a finger on it?????

I have loved all of David's books for their comedy and proper british humour and this one is just as good as the previous ones.

"The Final Fish Finger" in the "Space Police" series of David Blake is a great read. It's funny and fast, its humour and absurdity reminiscent of Douglas Adams, very British, exactly as I like it. It's the second volume in the series. The first one, "Attack of the Mammary Clans," was just as good.

kindle unlimited, This, the second in the brand new Space Police series, is a hilariously funny Sci Fi space comedy that's just perfect for fans of Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Terry Pratchett, and the Space Team books. That's what the blurb said, and can see bits of Adams and Pratchett in references, but the least with Space Team. The second one seemed to have even less references and less amusing but maybe just tired from reading 2 back to back.

It’s the 25th Century and the President is being blamed for Earth's fish supply problems.

Wanted something lighthearted and fun between all those thrillers and crime fiction books that I keep reading. WOW this delivers in bucket-loads. It's part of a series but also works as a complete standalone book. It's laugh out loud funny, it's spit out your coffee in inappropriate places in public kind of funny. In fact, it's so good that I'm off to download books 1 and 3 and can't wait for book 4!

Good second outing for the space police

Amusing story of 21st century defrosted cop Capstan as he tries across the galaxy chasing down the very last fish finger. End is a bit abrupt but suits the style.

Good read

Gets a bit dull towards the middle of the book but picks up at the end. Nearly three stars but saved by the last few chapters.

This was hilarious. I saw another review compare this to Danger Mouse and Penfold, and that's an apt comparison. Slightly silly, but still full of adventure. I was disappointed when it was over because I wanted there to be more. Still, there are a few more to get through, so that's alright. I like David Blake's writing style, and I'm going to see if he's done anything else beyond Capstam and Dewbush in space.
