Mutant marks are to be feared. They bring destruction. Death is the only way to deal with the afflicted and save everyone else. When a mutant mark blinds Yansey, she runs to the one person who might not kill her on sight. Maunit puts aside the tribe and his dreams of a normal life to help his betrothed escape her death sentence. Under the cover of darkness, the young couple flees their tribe—their home—to forge a new life in a foreign land. While Yansey’s unexplainable powers continue to grow, Maunit pushes them forward to find safety and peace in the kingdom of the city people. His training is tested, as is Yansey’s love, when he has to battle unfamiliar enemies hunting them for unknown reasons. He never expected things to go so terribly wrong. But now, Maunit must trust a stranger—a man with a mutant mark of his own—if he has any hope of saving Yansey.
What a fun book! I started it in the morning and finished it in the late evening. I enjoyed the fast paced story and the strong characters. I would recommend this book for a day at the beach or a lazy day with a beverage near by. It reads like eating a treat but if you care to look deeper, the author warns about fear and encourages you to find strength in your love.
If you're looking for something different from everything else on the shelves, this book is for you. Beautiful setting, inventive world-building, highly recommended.
The only thing more fierce than Maunits fighting stance is his love for Yancy! But will it be enough to get them through the unthinkable, a mutant mark!
I loved getting to know the betrothed couple and see them persevere in tough times.Yancys strength and will are so admirable! This is a journey they must face as best they can together; though of course they get by with a little help from their friends, enter Stoneman my personal favorite.
This is a book that you will be thinking about long after it is finished. Looking forward to hearing more about this world!
