Finding Us #2

Finding Wisp

Rate this book
“I don’t love you.”

The words had been like a knife through the heart, the pain spreading to her lungs and ribboning around them so tightly that the simple act of breathing hurt.

But the fact of the matter was… despite the ache in her chest, Wisp could still breathe.

And if she wants any chance at all of navigating her new life as Sloane – the daughter of a Washington senator who is engaged to some rich playboy she has never even met before – she would have to do her best to forget about Derek.

Forgetting is the one thing she seems to be good at, after all. (And anyway, the stubborn werebear who refuses to acknowledge his own feelings was Wisp’s problem. She’s Sloane now.)

And Sloane has her own issues.

Namely, Felix Rutherford: the man who her father claims to be her “handler”. Otherwise known as the man she had jumped off a cliff to get away from.

Of course, it would probably help if she could remember why. Or, you know, anything at all. (Or even if she could get through just one day without thinking of the man she is supposed to be wiping from her mind completely.)

“I don’t love you.”

Words weren’t supposed to sit in your gut like shrapnel, digging into your innards until you wondered how it was you weren’t bleeding to death. Especially not when they were words you had said.

Maybe it was because they had been a lie.

Regardless, Derek is determined to live with his decision to send Wisp away. He had done it in a bid to protect her, after all – the first selfless act he had ever committed in his life.

Who cares if missing her causes his every muscle – every bone – to ache?

Who cares if he – the bear – is in a constant state of agitation, continuously seeking out the remnants of Wisp’s honey-scent that cling stubbornly to his cabin, his bed, the insides of his nose like it’s a damn drug?

Derek can live with that.

What he can’t live with is finding out who exactly it is he gave Wisp away to.

When Derek discovers that instead of protecting Wisp as he had intended, he unknowingly thrust her into danger’s arms, he will do anything – even if it means enlisting the help of his reclusive neighbor, who seems to have his own unhealthy obsession with the girl – to get her back.

Noelle Marie is a full time stay-at-home mom and a part time writer. When not being driven wonderfully mad by her three adorable (read: deranged) children (aged 3, 19 months, and 1 month respectively) or staring woefully at her keyboard, she can be found curled up in a comfy chair reading a book or attempting to bake in the kitchen. Occasionally she might be pestered into golfing with her husband, but is largely an embarrassment to the sport.

Her first novel, Bitten, was published in October 2014, and the sequel, Shy, was released in December 2015. The third book of the series is currently in the works.

Noelle is also the author of The Ever After Collection.

Amazingly amazed!

How doesn’t Noelle Marie have more recognition and fans of her work? Her stories and books continue to pull me in and amaze me. Finding Wisp is certainly not an exception, even surpassing Finding Derek. I could barely put the book away!

It usually annoys me when the lovers in the story are kept apart for a bigger part of the book. It prevents the romance to build and develop and generally takes away the fun in romance. Noelle Marie however is a writing genius! To compensate for the missing romance she amps up the drama and tension. As a reader there is nothing that hooks me more to a story than suspense and all the twists and turns the storyline takes. This was done absolutely perfectly with both the storyline, the awesome characters and their personalities. And even though the romance was slightly compromised I still absolutely loved Derek and Wisp together, whether they were arguing or kissing or just being near each other. Simply everything with this book was great! It awes me because it’s rare that I can invest myself so fully in a story that I almost can’t put it down until I read it to the end.

Just as in the first book, the age difference between the main characters bugged me a bit. I would have liked it better if Wisp was slightly older or if Derek were younger. Also, without any spoilers here, it just made what Abram revealed Wisp was so much more ... not inappropriate per say, but it weirded me out a bit since she was so young. I really hope that particular plot twist does not become a trend in Marie’s future books as it seems to have become in her previous ones.

As much as I loved the drama I felt like it went a bit overboard at a few points in the book. Like with the villain revealing all his plans cliche and not rushing to leave just so he can explain it. I get that it adds to the drama, but it also makes the bad guy appear stupid to me, unbelievably so. Because of that he does not come across as that big of a threat as he is written as. Since this was such a small part to the story however I did not let it bother me. There is no such thing as a perfect book after all and yet, this author is close to perfection with this story. I really, really want to read Finding family now!

>Book review – Finding Wisp

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Finding Us series and ends in an HEA for Derek and Wisp. There are some unanswered questions on the motivations of other characters. Wisp/Sloane learns her backstory and identity. This book tackles some tough issues, mainly sex trafficking and torture. Her “minder” is the creepiest character, knowing no boundaries when it comes to Wisp. As Wisp is abused, Derek and Abram come to terms with each other and decide to rescue Wisp. Derek shows his alpha side and nothing will stop him from getting Wisp back.

>Who Abram is to Wisp is an unanswered, but fairly obvious question. The trafficking ring and Wisp’s whole family situation is just disgusting. Derek finally steps up and becomes the man Wisp needs. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. This story is compelling and romantic.
