Produced in association with the Royal Horticultural Society, the titles in this series have become standard works of practical gardening reference. Each book is illustrated with easy-to-follow, step-by-step illustrations that clearly guide the reader through all the essential techniques of successful gardening. This manual supplies information on growing conventional and more exotic fruits, from soft, tree, and warm temperate fruits to nuts and currants.
Lots of info but presented in a way that is not very accessible. Gives instructions but often without an explanation of why things are done that way so it's hard to use the information to make sensible decisions.
I recommend the book FRUIT FOR LIFE by Tim Foster to read alongside Growing Fruit. It is much, much more accessible and has more explanations about why things are done so you can make up your own mind how to proceed. It has less detail in some ways, but is far more enabling. Instead of finishing by asking myself @am I doing this wrong' I finished with the feeling: 'I can do this!'
If any admin wants to add Fruit for Life to GoodReads, I'd give it 5 stars with no hesitation!
Dull presentation. The world of books has moved on a long way since this 1980 edition. Yet the information is all there and the line drawings helpful. Published in conjunction with the RHS, so top notch advice.
