While this was a fun, occasionally charming, quick read, I really think it could have benefited from some editing. The stories are taken almost directly from spoken word from everyday people. While that's kind of charming in theory, in reality, spoken word from everyday people does not translate well into writing. I think the charm of the stories being from everyday people could have been kept, while still editing it to make the writing flow a little bit better. As it was, the bad 'writing' was just distracting.

I love paranormal, it takes a lot to get me scared. These are quick reads but not really scary!! I read a lot of the reviews on this book before I bought it. And I must say there are a lot of people that must be scared of their own shadow!! A disappointment!! If after a quick read to take up time then this is it!! I do not meant to offend anyone just my opinion.

This second volume was just as great as the first - all kinds of different paranormal experiences from different people - another awesome set of true stories and since I bought the 3 volume bundle, it just made it easier to keep on reading. Definitely a five star rating!

This is not exceptional literary work, just a bunch of short weird stories. I enjoy the paranormal so I enjoyed it regardless of the bad grammar.

As with most collection of short stories, for me there were fantastic tales, while others were just okay. I mainly enjoyed the ghost stories, head-scratchers, and synchronicity tales. I am not so much of a fan of UFOs and dreams. There is a huge need for good editing. Some of the stories don't translate well into the printed word and need some massaging. Or the original stories were poorly written and need significant editing. The stories I particularly enjoyed were: "The Reclining Ghost"; "Who is Cooking in My Kitchen?"; "Ghosts Weren't Mentioned in the Job Interview"; "Campfire Spirits"; "Haunted Frat House"; "Grandpa's Haunted House"; "All the News that's Fit to Haunt"; "The Haunted Vet Clinic"; "Hungry Like the Wolf"; "Knock Three Times"; "The Plane that Killed Me"; and "The Witches' Tree".
I love the podcast and will always be a big fan!

52 Book Club Prompt 10: A Title related to the word 'Fire'

I read a few volumes of this series a few years ago and since I have Kindle Unlimited, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to borrow the others for Spooky Season reading.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten about the poor editing, which simultaneously makes the style of every story identical (despite the author's intention to preserve the 'voice' of each statement) and yet is full of grammatical issues and needless repetition at times.

I found myself mentally red-penning the pages and this spoiled the immersion for me. Being cranky made my inner sceptic quicker to raise her eyebrow at certain points as well.

Overall, I can imagine this is more immersive in its original podcast format, because while some of the stories were intriguing, I never felt invested in the events or outcomes.

I figure that if you are interested in this subject, you like ghosts and other paranormal stories. This book will not disappoint. There are unexplained events in our world. It's interesting to me to read about what others have experienced. If you agree, you will enjoy this book.

There are some really amazing and highly memorable stories in this book, and Jim Harold really deserves a lot of credit for yet again being able to successfully assemble a wonderfully spine tingling collection such as this. Like the previous volume in this series, he didn't write the majority of the text himself, but someone sure did an excellent job of collecting, ordering, and editing the material, that's for darned sure.

Thankfully, barring an omitted word here and there, there really aren't all that many (or even any truly noticeable) mistakes in the manuscript. And even though there are a whopping seventy (count 'em), SEVENTY authentic paranormal tales within the pages of True Ghost Stories: Jim Harold's Campfire 2, I would have to honestly say that with only a couple of very minor exceptions, almost every single one of the stories is absolutely fascinating, thoroughly engrossing, and just plain creepy!

Like it's predecessor, True Ghost Stories: Jim Harold's Campfire 1, book 2 is divided into sections. The actual ghost stories, the real supernatural meat and potatoes of any suitably frightening collection such as this, naturally come first and make up the bulk of the content. Then, in the last quarter or so of the book, the narrative gradually begins to segue into other types of paranormal phenomena, such as out of body experiences, visitations from departed loved ones, UFO encounters, etc.

Best of all, I would even argue that this second volume in the series is even better than the first -which really comes as a most pleasant surprise, believe me. And again, even the one or two odd stories that (arguably) aren't quite as chilling as the rest are still very interesting and very fun to read. Some of this material is even bound to haunt you! So, if you enjoy good scary ghost stories (and related paranormal oddities) that seem to never stop coming, this is definitely the book for you.

Easy and Interesting Read

I've never heard of Jim Harold or his podcast before. I've always been fascinated by ghost stories, so I thought I would give this book a try since it was only 99 cents and the stories are supposed to be true. I enjoyed reading from the perspective of the actual storyteller even though the stories were not that well written and clearly intended to sound more like testimonies. Overall, this was a very easy read with several interesting and creepy stories. The bonus audio at the end was neat. I would probably be open to more Jim Harold stuff in the future.

I'm not usually a stickler for grammar, but I'm finding that it's taking me out of the story. Poor grammar, excessive exclamation points and improperly used ellipses are distracting. Frightening and shocking statements generally have more impact when they're not followed by an exclamation point.
