One Night Alone

Rate this book
For the past several months, Parker and Will have been messaging each other, sending flirty selfies, and making each other smile. Somewhere along the line, Parker started to fall in love with Will Jacobs. The problem is that Will is his best friend’s brother and also nine years younger than him, but he can’t deny his feelings much longer.

Will is a college sophomore and in love with his brother’s best friend, Parker Sanderson, who should be off limits, but he’s had a crush on him for years. Since they’ve started talking, his crush became more. At an after-Christmas weekend in the woods, Will plans on telling his family he’s gay. He also plans on telling Parker that he loves him and doesn’t want to wait for him any longer.

When Parker and Will get snowed in for the evening, they have the perfect chance to profess their love for each other and each be with a man for the first time, but once their evening ends, things might not go so smoothly for them.

A short and sweet age-gap + forced proximity story set during Christmas. Parker is Derek's bff. Will is Derek's little brother. They get snowed in together and finally have to confront their feelings for each other. I wish it was a little longer so we have time to care more about the characters.

I really didn't like the way this story was executed. There was no building up to the two men's relationship. The author does more telling than showing if that makes sense. Parker and Will are supposed to have a big age difference with Will being a Sophomore in college at 19 and Parker being nine years his senior and high school gym teacher. They didn't really have distinct voices throughout the book imo We don't really get to see the chemistry of them in love and falling for each other. When the story begins they've already been texting and video chatting for months without really putting a label on their relationship and not acting on it until the snow storm. Then when they get to the cottage snowed in there's confession of love and sex... until things get complicated...

This probably could have been a better story had it been lengthier with more development. But it just didn't work for me.

A touching story of a young man and a younger man crazy about each other but only one is ready to admit it, to himself and the world. Ironically, it's the younger one. At 19, Will is much more in touch with his feelings than Parker, who had turned to Will as a last resort when his best friend, Will's eldest brother, wasn't available to talk. Through their texts and selfies, the modern courtship, Will knows he loves Parker. Parker says he needs to think. But all thought falls away with the snow when they find themselves alone for the night. Sex is frank but sweet. I especially liked it that there was no sense of dominance in the relationship. They are emotionally, intellectually and physically equal and just what the other needs.
These gay romances, including sex, are a good niche for Havan. One can sense her affection for her characters and her fearlessness in delving into their physicality. As Parker observes: rough edges, hard muscles and a bit of stubble

Much to love about this sweet story of first love. An unexpected blizzard leads to a night of intense passion and a few unintended surprises the next morning. Sarah Havan is a master of this genre. Will and Parker are adorable main characters and the message of acceptance is a welcome one.

Parker and Will are such a sweet couple, and I enjoyed their steamy times together while being snowed in. I loved this one and will be looking forward to whatever Sarah Havan writes next.
