OGRE BATTLE After taking on the will and form of the Conqueror of Flames, Rimuru gains new, incredible skills and continues his journey to improve the conditions of his subordinates. But before long, Rimuru hears a distress call and finds his companions crushed by a motley crew of ogres! What quarrel do these menacing ogres have with Rimuru and the residents of the goblin village? And has Rimuru finally met a group of foes able to contend with his seemingly overpowered abilities?
Pretty relaxing volume all around, with nothing overly exciting happening. It does however introduce the most fantastic character though... the one, the only, Gabiru! I love that idiot so much :|
Aside from that though, it's mostly a filler volume, with Rimuru naming some more characters and some preparation for a battle against the incoming Orc army.
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)
We are starting to see the faint outlines of the big picture, get to meet some new friends, reorganize our skills. But overall a slower book, which suits me just fine.
With the passing of Shizu, Rimuru now has the ability to take on a human appearance though still sexless that looks remarkably like Shizu. With a new body comes new benefits though as Rimuru can now not only manipulate and travel easier but he can taste once more giving him a new sense of joy (or dread if the food is prepared by the wrong ally) and can adorn gear and clothes like the others. However being a slime makes it easier for the ladies infatuated with their slimey lord to carry him around. :)
There is no time to rest quite yet though as Rimuru finds a location to train the new abilities he has acquired from Shizu and Ifrit. Suddenly there is a mental cry from Ranga causing Rimuru to action to find some of his forces being defeated by some strange Ogres which begins a new story about hordes of Orcs marching on villages and destroying on their path. Be sure to read this series as Rimuru continues to get stronger and continues to build his retinue in his adventure through this fantasy world and be sure to read the story at the end of the manga so we can see the adventure again through the eyes of Veldora who is still inside Rimuru. :)
Rest in Peace Gobta. Your sacrifice to save Rimuru will not be forgotten. Just kidding...My favorite part of the book would have to be Rimuru looking forward to a meal Shinon prepared specifically for him and the other ogres although silent do not dare to tell him how bad her skills are in the kitchen. Luckily Gobta was there to try the food and got a bit of food poisoning but he is more resistant know and it made a good motivation when he takes on a Lizardman Warrior later on (which made me laugh how magnificently he powered up.) :)

Still enjoying the world and the way Rimuru responds to crises and builds new alliances. Definitely going to be checking out the anime after I finish the manga series I have available.
Oh, boy this volume was amazing!!! Rimuru gets new people in their group and the names that are given to them are so funny!!! I love that Rimuru can become a shape of a young more or less a teen girl and we can see how they progress and I love the art like always and the story is written very well!!! Im very excited to read the next volume!!!
Rimiru's little village of monsters is growing! And his insistence on giving everyone a name means they're all going to get much stronger. Rimiru is proving to be a capable leader, earning the respect of all of his subordinates, even if he is just a slime. His willingness to show kindness and mercy also earns him points in my book.
Meaning, anyone new is always perplexed why a slime (a typically low level monster) is in charge of so many. Granted, none of them know the whole truth about where Rimiru got his powers. The part that is especially interesting is how Rimiru is using his powers, combining techniques and upgrading them as he goes to create new abilities. Honestly, I wish this was how more RPG fantasy games built their skill trees.
And despite this series being labeled a comedy, the actual comedic bits are toned down enough that it doesn't take away from the story, which is about to get a lot more dangerous.
Mikami's life hasn't gone as planned – or hoped. Unfortunately, his left was a fair bit shorter than ended. The one bit of good news is that he woke up in a new world. The strange news? He's now a slime.
Rimuru now has a human form – and that's going to take some getting used to. Unfortunately, the world is changing too much for Rimuru to set everything aside and deal with that. There are ogres on the horizon and even greater foes drawing nearer.
Review:
Interestingly, the stakes continue to grow in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 3. We know something dark(er) has been on the horizon for a few volumes now. And it feels like we're finally starting to better understand what's going on.
Likewise, we might just have a better idea of why it happened. Meanwhile, a lot of development is still happening in what was once a tiny village in the middle of the woods. Every new volume seems to bring with it new allies. I don't know how far that trend will last, but it will be interesting to find out!
Honestly, the more I read, the more I can see why this series became so popular! At first, I was apprehensive about how OP Rimuru would become. And granted, that's still a concern, but it's quickly overshadowed by everything else.
Highlights: Isekai Reincarnation Comical Manga Fantasy Setting
This volume is pretty chill even though new people come to challenge Rimuru. There's some action here and there but mostly it's Rimuru getting more allies, passing out AGAIN and planning the course for the new threat looming in the forest.
So, first there's some deep look into new skills Rimuru acquired thanks to absorbing Shizu & Ifrit (I like these lore/world-building scenes!) and then we meet ogres, who look more like Japanese oni than Western fantasy media ogre which is what Rimuru remarks too. They want to off him but in true Rimuru-fashion he rather just tries to recruit them. I quite like this new posse and will gladly see more of them as the series goes on. Shuna especially interests me, her powers weren't really demonstrated yet but said to be high. I hope she'll do something else than sew clothes in the future... I mean, okay if she likes it (she does) but kinda boring if she's suddenly just like a housewife.
And even more new races are introduced! Lizard people who are quite humorous despite their looks... And this volume has a lot of comedy actually. The previous ones had funny stuff too but less-action-intense chapters left more space for comedic moments. It still wasn't taking over, so I liked it. Human Rimuru is cute too but I hope he'll return to slime form as often as possible because it's much more unique and funnier like that!
I like that this volume brought some Japanese elements to Western fantasy world, it's fun when different story tropes, traditions and characters are mixed. And characters are definitely strong point in this manga, interesting bunch!
Looking forward to how Rimuru and friends deal with the orc situation...
The overall tone of volume 3 of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is lighthearted compared to to the previous 2 two volumes, not to say that is a bad thing. Personally speaking it's probably my favorite of the series so far. In this volume Rimuru ends up meeting a group of 6 ogres that mistake him for some sort of great calamity that destroyed their homeland. I have a feeling that plot point is going to be delved into future volumes. Naturally though they quickly come around to Rimuru's side. Shion and Hakuro are my favorite of the bunch of the ogres and add a fun new dynamic to the cast.
But that is not all this volume also introduces the lizardman race. Who are trying to recruit as many people as they can so as to fight of a gigantic army of Orcs. Of course their is a catch, in that they want to rule over all that join their cause. What makes their part of the volume so much fun is that their is plenty of members from the best goblin, Gobta. It will be fun to see how everything is joining to pan out as there is quite a lot of build up, in this volume, to a greater foe.
This manga really feels like a video game. Am I complaining? Absolutely not. Why? Because it’s enjoyable in both the story AND the art!
• I really like that the Rimru’s human form is androgynous. It just makes sense. • Beautification naming powers. It’s great. • Rimru is the definition of OP. • Has some events that I would not have expected this to take so early, but tackles them well.
The short stories in novel format in the back are just a hassle for me to read. If I want to read a book, I can grab a book. I just wanted to read manga... • I am making my friend read this series along with me and they said they enjoy the story because they like the POV better. They also said that the story is getting different and not recapping everything.
If this was made into a video game, I can think of so many people who would buy it.
I neglected to add the first couple of volumes as I read them or review them. Not going to go back and add the reviews. Essentially they're going to say the same thing -- this is a highly entertaining and fun series thus far. The concept of being reincarnated as a slime in a different world but becoming rather powerful and creating your own monster town by collecting various groups has been a lot of fun. These books are SUUUPER fast reads (maybe half an hour). I hope our library gets the light novels soon. While I'm enjoying it I kind of want more detail and hope they have that. Either way I'll be reading more.
Verdict: A very fun series. Light and funny. If you have even the slightest interest, it's worth picking up.
From my perspective, I am still enjoying this manga series. "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 3" continues the story in a way that I had anticipated from the anime adaptation. However, the manga progresses at a faster pace, keeping me intrigued and eager to see what happens next. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
The klappentext (back cover description) sets the stage perfectly: In a world of dragons and magic, a 37-year-old Tokyo salaryman wakes up as a blind, boneless slime monster. Mikami's middle age didn't go as planned, but even as a slime, there are opportunities for him to become a hero.
I look forward to continuing this series and discovering how the story unfolds.
The mask I don't get, the conversations I don't get, and the staying for 3 months I don't get. He has the face of a human girl so the mask is nothing but an assumed identity for a grade schooler to to feel cool, in no way is it the actions of an adult contractor. The conversations rarely involve important information, and the analytics usually happen in the middle of combat 2-3 pages of text within the span of a few seconds. And he can use shadow step so this idea of here and there cease to matter, yet he makes it sounds as if he can't return for 3 months. So the only redeeming element of this series is the setting, and the plot that's snailing along.
I wasn’t as impressed with this volume. It seemed very slow and quite boring at times to be honest. We got some more new characters that I like, especially the Ogres but not enough time was spent fleshing them out just yet. I’m really liking how Rimuru reacts to crisis and is always thinking a step ahead. With that in mind, Rimuru is starting to seem a bit OP. Gobta still cracks me up too! I am hoping the next volume moves the story along though.
And lastly, as always make sure to read Veldora’s Slime Observation Journal at the end. It has continued to be one of my favorite parts of each volume!
The humans of the previous volume give way to ogres in this volume, who join Rimuru's growing tribe. Meanwhile, there are rumblings of an approaching orc army, commanded by a legendary creature! I like the character designs, although the hair colors mentioned in the text don't translate well in black and white.
A lot better than the previous volume. This was a setup volume leading to the conflict to the next one. You do get to meet some new characters, and it's pretty entertaining and funny throughout. Not the most exciting or interesting manga, but a fun one nonetheless.
The continuation of the amazing story of rimuru, in this volume there is the introduction of ogres and lizard men. Such interesting developments throughout and the way it builds up each chapter makes me wanting more
Still I cant say enough about the bonus material at the end. So good and unique
Rimuru the slime names six ogres and meets the lizardmen.
Othering than powering up more people, not a lot happens in this volume. If I didn't already have the fourth volume, I might bow out on this series. Here's hoping volume four has more action.
Rimuru continues to build up his alliances on the cusp of a monster war. Excited to see how the slime chooses to move forward with the task asked of him at the end of this volume.
