Rate this book

Lucilla Chatsfield works at the family hotel and wanted to be CEO but her father gave Christos Giatrakos the job. Now Lucilla is trying to get rid of Christos so she can be CEO while fighting the powerful attraction they have for each other...

Lucilla was a feisty and headstrong heroine. She was a bit hard and tough in the first half of the book. I started liking her more as the story progressed. She was a very responsible, take charge kind of person. Maybe because she had to take care of her siblings when she was young, after her mother left the family, when she was only fourteen.

Christos was from the wrong side of the tracks. He sort of re-made himself after a bad childhood in which he had to spend some time in a juvenile detention facility. I liked him. I enjoyed the part when he took Lucilla to Kefalonia, Greece, and she got to learn more about his childhood.

Lucilla and Christos did a lot of arguing but I thought they had great chemistry together.

This was another entertaining read from "The Chatsfield" series.

This is book number eight in the Mills and Boon The Chatsfield series, this time we meet the eldest of the Chatsfield's.

Lucilla has always been the one to keep the family together, taken care of everything she could, which of course is a great responsibility and as we all know , with great responsibility comes great sacrifice.

Lucilla has never really stopped to look for love, she is simply jut too busy trying to keep it all together, she faces each day head on and let's nothing stand in her way. That is until the force that is Christos Giatrakos. Not only has he been put in charge of the family business but also in charge of Lucilla.

She's naturally outraged and vows to fight back with all she has. But Christos is not the kind to back down and simply roll over. Although returning back to a world he never wanted to step foot into again, he's prepared to do whatever it takes to reach his end goal.

And right here is where this read shouts, clash of the titans, game on! I loved the conflict in this read, it was fun one minute and spicy the next. It did resemble other reads in the same line, because there is always conflict, but the author let it somehow play out with more passion and the conflict alone took on a life of it's own, making this read highly entertaining.

The characters were both extremely well written, both determined and forceful in everything they do, and of course the heat building in between the bouts of anger was fabulous!

Not wanting to spoil the read for anyone, I can't say too much more except that the ending of this read was as perfect as they come, and took my breath away.

I am taking away a message of to walk away from problems is never the answer, yes it is the easy solution but can you really escape? The answer is definitely no, because somewhere alone the line the problems are going to break through the defenses you lined up and you will need to face it, so why run in the first place, deal with it instead the minute it arrives because if you walk away you are walking into a world far worse than the problems you had to face in the past.

I highly recommend this read for all fans of romance reads, it was a roller coaster of conflict, passion, glitz and glam and sexy romance., and by far my favorite from the entire series.

Wow! A nice little passionate read.

After five years of a marriage of convenience Lucy has fallen in love with her sexy husband (not part of the deal). Believing he doesn't feel the same she went about divorcing him......which will be final the day after Christmas.

They meet at the Christmas ball at the Chatsfield: Lucy looks so beautiful in her red satin gown that Nico can't take his eyes off her. Nico wants one more passionate night with his soon-to-be ex to show her what they have together. Both are afraid to admit what they really feel will this one night be enough to break down the wall?

This was one well written hot little novella!

My first review after a long time and this book deserves it.

I have to say I'm particularly fond of enemies to lover plot. Of course Christos and Lucilla definitely have it! They have sparks and passion. I love them both.

And if I could give 6 star for the 'ending', i would. My compliment for the author.

I was desperately waiting for Christos and Lucilla’s story. The previous Chatsfield books built up an awesome anticipation regarding him and therefore I had really high expectations about this one. Needless to say I was not disappointed and loved every minute of this book.

The best thing about Heiress Defiance is the high intensity with which everything is portrayed. Be it the love scenes, the confrontations or even normal dialogue. Christos and Lucilla are both very strong characters in their own way. If you are expecting Christos to be an ultra dominating hero who takes away the focus from his presence and Lucilla to be a damsel in distress, innocent heroine who is completely dominated by the hero then you are going to be disappointed. Lucilla is no wilting flower or damsel in distress. She gives it back to Christos in equal measures and does not back away from him. She is strong heroine and an amazing sister to her siblings. Christos is a mystery because nobody knows much about him and he hides himself well for anyone to find out what he is really thinking. Lucilla uncovers him step by step and something new is revealed about him as the story progresses. The chemistry is hot ,intense and the romance is all about passion.

Overall, Heiress Defiance by Lynn Raye Harris is a must read for everyone who like strong characters and intense romance.

Lucilla Chatsfield knows she is the one that should be the CEO of the family business. The fact that her father puts Christos Giatrakos in charge of the business, and her, is more than she can stand. He might be gorgeous, but he has got to go.

Christos Giatrakos has never been one to let a woman distract him form his goals. At least, not until Lucilla works her way under his skin. Even her threat to expose his past does not stop him from taking things a little too far. He know that there will not be anything lasting between them, but he is not sure how to stop the flames that burn.

Really good.

First, let me start by saying a big thank you for David Tennant for helping me out with this review. I think his presence makes a lackluster review (or book or movie or TV show or anything really) better. I didn't start out with the intention of making him help me, but he just has so many absolutely perfect facial expressions. (Plus, I've been watching the Netflix "Jessica Jones" series that they made out of Alias, Vol. 1, so I'm in full Tennant-is-a-bad-guy-and-I-find-that-AMAZEBALLS fangirl mode.)

Swoon.

This book won't win any awards, but it was a nice change from the usual HP virgin-meets-billionaire-and-he-is-a-douche-who-walks-all-over-her tropes.

For one thing, Lucilla? Not a virgin!

Also, on that same not-a-virgin note... she was never married, to an abusive jerk or otherwise, thus she has had pre-marital sexual encounters with men who were not the hero before! And presumably liked at least some of them!!!

And then when she and Christos do the pelvic tango she doesn't immediately start doodling hearts around their names and imagining herself in love with him.

Oh, sure she admits that she wants his hot, hot Greek body, but (at least at first) it's just sex for her. Which is pretty awesome in a Harley.

I read a review that said something about watching these two titans battle it out was really refreshing, and it was, but I wouldn't call these two "titans" and I was hoping after a description like that, for a little... more. Like the two of them alternately one-upping each other in the business arena but not being able to keep their hands off each other in the bedroom. And... I guess... kinda... But I still felt sort of like this could have been so much better than what it was.

Don't get me wrong, this is still very much a Harley and by the end, Lucilla is very much in love with Christos, but she doesn't give much of it away to him, at least not until the Big Reveal, which was pretty nice. He does still have some opportunity to be an asshat so that there is a reason to add tension to the last chapter, but relations between the two were a bit less "top-heavy" (... giggity...) than they usually are in these books. Unfortunately, while that was refreshing, I still felt like this book could have been more than it was. I don't know if that was the Harley restraints working their frustrating ways, or if it was the author, but this one just never grabbed me.

Still, it was nice to see .

"Heiress's Defiance" by Lynn Raye Harris is Book 8 of 'The Chatsfield Series.' This book is great as a read alone or as part of the series. Since I love reading series books I recommend the series.

In this story we meet Lucilla Chatsfield who is the heiress to the Chatsfield Hotel chain. She took care of her siblings at the age of 14 when her Mother ran off and left the family. We also meet Christos Giatrakos a multi-millionaire outsider who is brought in to run the hotel, and bring it back up to it's former glory.

Both Lucilla and Christos want to be in charge of the hotel and of their lives. Even though Lucilla's life is drama free she can't say the same of her siblings and her father Gene Chatsfield doesn't trust that his family can handle the daily hotel life as they are involved in their own exploits.

Both agree to a friendly work environment but are fighting the attraction between them. Lucilla also finds out about Christos's past and wants to use it against him, but she doesn't know the whole story. This was a wonderful, fast read. Very enjoyable.

***story available as a free Harlequin online read***

For five years they've been in a passionate marriage of convenience sharing only a bed and a name, now, having fallen in love with her husband, but knowing he didn't return her feelings, Lucy wants out. Their divorce will be final the day after Chrismas, but her husband wants one last present...

A pretty redundant story, since the big misunderstanding would've been easily resolved with a simple conversation.

The heroine was an idiot for being angry with the hero for giving her what she wanted in their marriage—her space and her own bed. She resented him and wanted a divorce because he obliged her. Go figure.
The hero was one-dimensional and bland, seemingly only wanting the heroine because he was attracted to her, she was good in bed, and because she was getting away.
And that last, overdue discussion, didn't convince me they had anything remotely similar to genuine feelings for one another.

But hey, it's free and it's short.

Just re-read this series and felt I needed to write a review.
I totally disliked the heroine Lucilla. I’ve got no real sense of why it was so important to her to be the CEO of the company, so much so, that she treated the man her father had appointed with such contempt and disdain for so long. She didn’t come across as a professional woman of 34 but as a spoiled Insensitive adolescent for most of the time.

The hero Christos was rather sweet and I liked him. When she threatened to blackmail him and publish his past, I really felt that Lucilla lost any sympathy I might’ve had for her. It really was a despicable and mean betrayal that he had done nothing to deserve.

The angst went on for far too long and quite frankly I’d lost interest by the end. This has been a strange series. Some of the stories have been fabulous and others not. Still worth a read though probably.

I liked Lucilla's story. It was refreshing how the author touched on the whole piece of her playing the good girl, having to be responsible for all of her siblings and bringing them up and still feeling like it was never good enough for her father. And then there is that thin line of hate/love she's been flirting with with Christos. I actually found their sparring amusing and the chemistry between them hot.

i wish this was a whole book ! der was great chemistry between Nico and Lucy and they were obviously very much into each other. i liked the idea dat they had been married 5 years and Lucy never realised dat Nico cared because he was distant and never touched her outside the bedroom. Nico was undoubtedly a damaged soul character and needed more character development.

Lucilla Chatsfield membenci setengah mati Christos Giatrakos, CEO yg ditunjuk ayahnya.

Cuma terkadang saya terganggu sedikit dgn sifat labil Lucilla yg sering berubah-ubah. Tetapi secara keseluruhan, novel ini bagus.

Seri Chatsfield ini memang layak dikoleksi bagi pecinta Harlequin.

This is the eighth book in this series. Lucilla has always taken care of her siblings. She is the one who is there for them. But when her father sidesteps her in favor of someone outside of the family to take over the family busness she is devastated. Christos is a very dark Greek who has his own secrets. He has brought himself up and became the man he is today through his own works. Now he is in charge of the Chatsfield all and all its holdings. What happens when these two but heads and sparks fly. When he gets her alone those sparks are more than anger but passion. Will these two be able to heal each other? Will he learn that love is not a disease but an emotion that can help him grow?

Enjoyed it, but it lacked that special something. Also, the circumstances in which the characters were "locked in" felt a bit too far fetched. There are also no side characters that actually talk, it's just the main characters telling us that's why everything is so bad, but don't really experience anything else. I did enjoy their interactions and it was a fun, quick read. 2.5 stars.

4.5 stars...cos I think what Christos did when he got snapped was a bit OTT.
Nice ending to the first portion of the series. Slight catch up on some of the other couples.

Lucilla should have been the one to take over the Chatsfield business, but her father chose outsider Christos Giatrakos, and now she has to work for him, watching him run the business she worked her entire life to run. And he's arrogant and sexy - which makes things all the worse that Lucilla is attracted to him. In an attempt to oust Christos, she digs into his past and discovers her weapon. But Christos won't let Lucilla use his past against him - so he kidnaps her and takes her to his hometown, a place he never thought to return to, full of ugly memories. His goal is to show her why she shouldn't hold his past against him, but he ends up seducing her, gradually falling for her. Afraid to engage his heart, Christos abruptly pulls back and sends Lucilla back home alone. For her part, she suddenly feels like she's been played for a fool - manipulated into feeling sorry for him and into falling in love with him - she can't destroy him now. But once Christos realizes what he's done, he's going to have to convince her that it was all real.

This was my first story in this series, so I admit, I didn't know much of the background or any of the other characters that were mentioned. But even as a standalone, this is a fairly strong story. Lucilla is a strong, modern heroine who struggles with getting what she wants whatever the cost and listening to her heart. There are moments when she is downright spoiled and uncooperative, but she's still likeable. Likewise, Christos has moments where he is completely unsympathetic to Lucilla's feelings, but also remains likeable. There romance was quite enjoyable - not particularly standout, but I definitely had fun reading it. I'm tempted to go back and read more in the series, but I'm not sure I like how the other Chatsfield characters were described (more spoiled than Lucilla).

3 1/2 stars in fact.

Ok. She's not a virgin heroine. And he's not a complete alpha male. But putting that facts aside, the story is well written and had a few interesting (and surprising) twists that made the book enjoyable.

You may ask, why I didn't give it 5 stars? Simple: there were a few things inconclusive in the story, we never knew what happened with Lilliana Chatsfield and Lucilla's reconciliation with her father was reduced to a single paragraph.

I couldn’t connect to the characters. And I didn't like the heroine, Lucilla, and what she did to Christos. I understand where she's coming from, really. But I didn't particularly appreciate that she hired someone to investigate Christos and was willing to use the information for her personal gain. And since book 1, all of these Chatsfield bunch did nothing but complained about how bad or arrogant or cold-blooded Christos was, forcing them to do things they didn't want to do. Well, their father hired him, so I guess he was doing his job. And I don't see anything wrong with that.

Merged review:

For a novella, Christmas at the Chatsfield was pretty good. This was exactly what I was looking for when I decided what to read next; it was quick and pretty entertaining!
