I’m really liking this series. I can’t stop reading today. I like Cal’s inner struggle. He is a Dom and in love with a girl who can’t handle that lifestyle. So he changed for her but still wants what he wants.
Also since the book is told from his POV we don’t really understand her hang ups. She hasn’t opened up much about her past so we are left to wonder why she feels the way she does and is unwilling to compromise after he has for her. I like the way this series is written. You don’t often get so much of the man’s POV in the romance genre.
I am thrilled that Cal and Rome are together again but Rome is driving me crazy with her unwillingness to bend even a little bit, she is always giving him a hard time when he tells her to do things, yes he comes off very bossy but at the same time it is over stupid little things that he demands she do but she has to constantly fight him on it. The whole Hank storyline just keeps getting better and I love how scared he is of Cal, that was great to watch. The one mistake I think Cal makes in this book is when he takes Rome to Ruin but instead of taking things slow he moves too fast and she gets scared, her past rears its ugly head. Once again she offers him an out, and tells him "I don't want this Calloway. If this is something you can't live without, then...I understand", why not walk away then, instead he stays and ends up doing something that in my opinion ruined this whole book. The story took a horrible turn,
This story continous to be awsome!! I just don't understand why Jackson is so obsessed with his brother's sexual life. Calloway is trying to build something important and Jackson comes to ruin it! Peace of ... and poor Rome thought he was a sweetheart! On the other hand I think Rome needs to be more flexible...sometimes she irritated me so much. Cal has been really patient with her, but everything has a limit. I know she has a lot of baggage, but she should not let the past dictate her future.
Ermagawd!!! This story is sooooooo friggin DELICIOUS I've started the entire series over.....AGAIN!
Calloway continues to fight his demons in this installment. He's such a strong man and well dang I can't say another friggin word without spoilers! What I can say is ERMAGAWD ERMAGAWD ERMAGAWD!!!!!
I'm sooooooooooo incredibly pleased with this installment and the ending!!!!!!!!Whhhhheeeewwweeeee!!!! What a woooooooosssaaaaaa moment!!! I swear Calloway and Rome gave me 50 strands of gray hair!!!!
Buonasera a tutte voi! Come dico sempre, staremo a vedere! Alla prossima!
I give it a 3.5 because it was better than the second book, but just as irritating. The majority of the book I felt nothing but aggravation. This one explained a lot more about the characters which I appreciated. I also am like annoyed with most of the characters. It was still a good read though and it was nice to see some character development. Some more than others. Honestly, they REALLY need to work on their relationship. The last chapter was CRAZY, his brother is nuts actually.
I feel like this book and book 2 could have combined. They get back together but Calloway is still so torn about giving his brother Ruin. His brother is a ass for what he does at the end of the book. Calloway is an ass for what he does. I hate cliffhangers so this annoyed me but the next book comes out soon so that is a good thing. I feel like there is too much of Calloway feeling torn and he is clearly in love with her but cant tell her that. He does not say the words. She tells him she loves him. I like the story line with the mother so I am interested to see how many chapters the next book is and how she wraps it all up since its the last book. At the end of the book Calloway goes to Ruin to help his brother Jackson but his brother basically sets him up and gets him in a room with Isabella and tells him he can do BDSM with her and not have sex and its not cheating. Which it is and he would be lying to Rome. The book ends with him whipping her so I have no idea how this will all get resolved. Rome has been so against the BDSM even though I think she is curious but holds back from her past but it seems we are missing part of her past still. Jackson has met Rome on several occasions and spent time with her when the 3 of them visit the mother so its to bad he kept pushing his brother to leave Rome or cheat and lie to her. I really like the characters so I hope this last book is great. I liked the first book but felt to book 2 and 3 had to much of the same drama over and over so I am hoping book 4 brings it all full circle.

The 5 stars I gave is for the writing style. The story retained some mysteries that were eventually solved, and some minor events/things that would make you wonder, but you can still let go of.
I don't know if I'm just really in the mood, or the author is that good but I enjoyed the repetitive sex/love scenes. The kink level is mild to moderate, bordering hard-core, but the author didn't focus on that.
Yes, this is an insta-lust love story but it spanned 1 year where a lot of back and forth happened. Compromises and sacrifices were made, the unbendable finally broke, and they met in the middle.
This could have finished in a trilogy but that's just me. The secrets they were hiding kept me going and of course their chemistry in and out of the bedroom. The revelations were downplayed and maybe the author didn't want to write too much back stories. It's like I was baited and after the reveal, "oh that's it? Fine".
Rome is one of those independent women you couldn't boss around, while Calloway is a Dom at his core. He's the alpha male and the first one to break. They've been through hell and back and I love hoe and their foundation was built. I'm glad about the twists and turns and the only spoiler I'm willing to share is this has a good ending.
**Sighs** I'm not sure how I feel right now, i love the book, devoured it within a few hours.. But that ending?!? Im having such a book hangover, I'm numb, Victoria Quinn wth did you do to me?? If it wasn't for the fact that I'm reading this on my phone I would have thrown it across the room. This completely different from any other book I have ever met. Rome is not a pushover like most heroin you read about, she is extremely strong minded, passionate, did I mention stubborn?!? She frustrated me in this book, so did Calloway, they are both set in their ways and neither Will compromise. I can't wait to read the next book, hopefully there will be some kind of insight to Rome's past.
This series turned out like something that 50 shades wanted to be, but never managed: sexy, well written bdsm story with pretty good justifications for all the quirks of the characters. This is pretty high class reading in this genre.
I love this book series because of Rome. She kick ass so much and wont let anyone hurt her not even Calloway. Now after reading this book Cal is still an asshole and Jackson is plain dumbass for what he did at the end of the book.
This series gets better with every book! I go back and forth with how I feel about Calloway. His need for control and his ability to keep it throughout the series is intriguing. But he is a softey! I want more background on Rome and Cal and am hoping for it in the last book!
Okay. I love this series, but I really feel like the author is dragging the issue of Calloway being a Dom part of the time in their relationship. In the second book and the beginning of the third, we see that Calloway gives up A LOT to be with Rome the way she wants but she won't compromise on anything. ANYTHING! This makes me really upset because Rome's character doesn't seem like the type to just not compromise. The whole third book was dragged out and the issue was exactly that. Rome wouldn't compromise. All she is doing to going to make Calloway resent her because she doesn't want to compromise. You can already tell by the end of the book that Calloway is starting to resent her and he keeps trying to tell her that they have already stepped into the BDSM lifestyle! But she will not listen to him!!! And that makes me more mad than anything because he is willing and will try to give up soooooo much and she won't budge and listen to him on this. It actually pissed me off so much I almost didn't finish the book. Ugh I really hope the fourth book is a lot better and they work this shit out.

I tried... really tried to finish this without wincing. Awful continuation of some really shallow development. Now not only does the goody two shoe character decide for herself to butt into someone else's business, the author glorifies her as some sort of martyr.
Followup on the first book's review (none of this has changed...) Very touchy feely with stunted shallow character development and ridiculous premises:
Multi million dollar businesses that only give money to the poor? Ridiculous salaries that are the same exact number for all employees? Ooohing and aahhhing over a guy who "pulls out all the cash in his wallet to give to someone he doesn't know"? He's teaching that homeless man to stay where he is, splurge in booze and drugs, instead of bettering himself.
This author's head is way in the clouds, has obviously failed basic accounting and economics.
Done trying. I hate not finishing a series, but this is just too flighty, shallow, and sickeningly and unrealistically altruistic :(.
Also, the sex and the "bdsm" is all coming from the wrong place and shoved in there haphazardly. Someone needs to do more research before they start writing books on it....
The third installment will leave you breathless and begging for more. Cal and Rome are back and Vanilla is the flavor of the day once more but will it stay that way. Cal is trying everything thing he can to make Rome see that she is what he wants and needs but can he truly sacrifice such a huge part of who he is to make her happy. And transversely can Rome really expect Cal to give up his preferences when deep down it's truly what she desires as well. This series is a page turner that keeps you guessing and leaves you feeling like you on a ledge. Will Dom Cal ever get his Sub? Will we discover what secrets in Romes past stop her from giving in to what we know she desires and yearns for? When you reach the last page you jaw literally hits the floor and if you don't have book 4 handy you might tear your hair out!
Up for punishment. I winced through thee entire book still looking for Calloway to grow a pair and tell Rome off. This guy was a wimp. Too much chatter from Rome, I thought she was, a domme the way she treats Calloway and how she talked to Jackson, who are suppose to be the DOM in this book. Since I borrowed these books through Interlibrary Loan from a library in the US. I will read the last one to finish this nightmare of a storyline. One frickin' star again. Yep started the book today and finished today, still looking for the BDSM, it finally arrived on page 289 out of 296.
This story dragged on and on...it was just more of book two, and you made Rome weak and stupid, not who she was in book 1&2, then the ending... Just no.
This has been quite the emotional roller coaster between this couple and i don’t know where we’re going to end up, and i have a feeling that we’re going to spin cycle some more with them.
We spent time being insanely happy with this couple, and then suffering through massive depression when things seemed so grim. Then we turn a corner and it seems as though there’s a common ground that we can rest our laurels on, but we quickly learn that perhaps thats not even enough.
Calloway has his needs and if we know anything about people, it’s that you can only compromise so much before you start feeling too much resentment. Feeling as though you have given way more than the other person for what you felt was something that you mutually wanted but realize that you were wrong. Rome makes her needs and desires clear but she’s so unwilling to budge, and with all the secrets that we KNOW she’s hiding, there has to be a reason why. The question though is whether we will ever really find out the motivation and driving forces here.
The path that this installment goes on is one that takes us through the evolution of the relationship that these two share. Watching how their lives start to mesh into one, and then watch how this as a result amplifies how different they are.
There’s also the sub-story (no pun intended there) of Hank – the DA who abused Rome and is stalking her. I honestly don’t know how that one is going to play out. There’s not much that he fears and he’s apparently got access everywhere so i think that he’s still a wild card, even with the protection of Cal.
Add to that story Cal and Jackson’s mom. She’s still in a state where she doesn’t remember things from day to day and it’s painful for everyone to cope. There was one moment where it seemed like they had a breakthrough with Rome, but then nothing. I feel like something will trigger her to remember them but i’m not sure yet what that will be.
Lastly, there’s the slow build of Christopher in this story and how he wants to change how he lives his life now that Rome isn’t with him so much. He’s becoming a mature guy now and we’ll see how that plays out.
Where we end up in this third book is watching our lovebirds really enjoy the chemistry and passion that they have but also at the same time watching Cal’s compromise eat at him and make him into a man that he doesn’t recognize. He has needs and we know that there’s only so much that you can tamp down before it’s too much. We’re at that point and the top is about to blow and i think we can thank Jackson for that. I’m almost afraid to see what happens in book 4 because of this and i can only hope that all the secrets are put out there on the table so that Cal and Rome can find happiness.
Obsessed with the Obsidian Series! This was my first experience with Victoria Quinn's books and I wasn't disappointed. I was intrigued from the beginning and she kept me on the hook that I purchased the remaining 3 audiobooks in the series and binge listened. This was also my first experience with male narrator Michael Ferraiuolo and enjoyed his performance so much that I will continue to look for his work when looking for new purchases. Lia Langola did another excellent job with her performance, though I would have enjoyed the audiobooks even more if they were in duet style. The male narrator did so much performing of the females voice when doing an entire male POV chapter that I missed the female performers voice and felt she didn't get very much airtime. It did get a little confusing at times when they switched from male performer to female performer that performed the opposite sexes voices. I go so used to one performer talking in a certain style for the other sexes character, that when the opposite sexes narrating performer took over, I had to get back into the frame of mind to their performance style. But that's my only complaint, and it's not a huge one. I would LOVE if the producers took this into consideration and had the two narrators redo the recording in duet style and re-release the series. I think it could help boost the sales as this narrating style is becoming the preferred method to listen to dual POV audiobooks by avid listeners who spend lots of money purchasing hundreds to thousands of audiobooks a year, myself included (568 purchased so far this year).
