Way to finish a run? Taylor's run that improved with time has a wonderful finish set in the future (no time travel), where 'Old Woman Laura' has one final mission to undertake; with future versions of some of her friends including Gabby this book casts an interesting eye on a near utopian future with the on e blight... Latveria! A solid 8 out of 12 Four Star read.

Old Man Logan was a nightmare future for Wolverine wherein he did something terrible in his past leading to a dystopian wasteland ruled by thugs before one last tragedy shocks him into a final attempt at redemption – it’s arguably the best Wolverine book.

Old Woman Laura isn’t an unimaginative gender swap of the same storyline so much as it is false advertising. Laura didn’t do anything terrible and the future world she lives in isn’t a wasteland – in fact it’s the opposite; it’s a utopia! Maybe writer Tom Taylor wants to claim that he wasn’t going for a gender-swap version of Old Man Logan but with a title like Old Woman Laura, you’re kind of inviting the comparison.

Worst of all, it’s not entertaining. Old Man Logan was gripping from start to finish; Old Woman Laura is a yawner all the way through. She’s dying so she wants to snuff out the last pocket of “evil” in the world: Doom’s Latveria (kind of framing it like Asterix’s Gaulish village holding out against Caesar’s Roman invaders – hmm, is Doom the underdog hero like Asterix or the Star Wars Rebels…?). Guess if she succeeds?

Predictable, boring, with a cop-out ending and “deaths” that don’t matter because this is some nebulous far-flung future world that could easily be brushed off as an alternate timeline – Old Woman Laura is a load of bollocks. Ramon Rosanas’ art looks very pretty though – dude keeps getting better!

There are a couple disposable issues also included. One where Laura and some girl literally kick a Nazi, that couldn’t have been more dull, and a kerazy silly story where Gabby, Jonathan (her pet wolverine) and Deadpool team up to exact vengeance on the animal testing facility Jonathan was rescued from. It’s so OTT cartoony and nonsensical but it had a couple moments that made me laugh like the zombie sloth and the panel where Deadpool’s making zombie squirrel kebabs!

All-New Wolverine, Volume 6: Old Woman Laura is an uninspired and unmemorable addition to a very bleh series.

(By the way, if you want a laugh, type in “Old Woman Laura” into the GR search box and see what the second result is – NSFW!)

Absolutely fantastic! I've loved this run and I'm really hoping Honey Badger and Jonathan don't disappear from Laura's life now she's not going to be Wolverine anymore. (You'll always be MY Wolverine, kid. Snikitty-snikt!)

Tom Taylor finishes off Wolverine's story with a couple of one-offs and the three part "Old Woman Laura". First, Deadpool returns and it is magical. Then we get an epilogue to Orphans of X where Laura goes after one of the people who hurt both her and a member of the Orphans. Finally we see Laura's possible future where she decides to take out Dr. Doom before she dies. This is decidedly not the same dystopian future where Old Man Logan came from.

This is one of those series I'll find myself going back and rereading again and again. Taylor caught lightning in a bottle with this series. Laura has grown up from someone that was abused at a young age to a strong, self-reliant woman. Gabby is the heart, soul, and humor of this series. Who knew Tom Taylor was this funny? I'm sorry to see this title go. Yes, I know Laura's coming back as X-23.

A satisfying coda that, in keeping with the overall tone of the run, projects an optimistic future for Our Hero and her supporting cast.

I could have done without the Deadpool issue, though.

This is a very good ending to Taylor's run on All-New Wolverine, collecting the last five issues. There are two quite nice stand-alones, one rather violent with Laura revisiting the Orphans story-line and one featuring Jonathan and Gabby (with Deadpool) shutting down an immoral testing facility. (Who knew that you sometimes needed a zombie sloth and squirrel-kebabs to enhance an already good story? I normally avoid Deadpool, but he was okay here.) The last three sections are a future-arc with a grown Gabby and a dying Laura going on a last quest to free Latveria from the evil you-know-who. Captain Marvel and Hawkeye and Maria Hill and the Wasp are along to pitch in, the day is saved, and a whole raft of heroes are liberated. It's a grand, apocalyptic wrap to a fine book. Jack and Stan woulda liked it...'nuff said.

A good, but not great, send off for Laura as the Wolverine.

So we start off with two standalone issues before getting into the Old Woman Laura storyline. The first is basically a team up with Deadpool and Gabby. It's about as magical as you can expect. The next story is about a woman wanting revenge for her father being killed. Laura had killed her father but the woman knows better than that and together she teams up with Wolverine to take down the people responsible. Last storyline jumps into the future with Laura as a older warrior who learns she is dying. So she, plus Gabby, and a few other heroes head over to rescue the missing heroes.

Good: The Gabby + deadpool issue is pure amazing. Seriously. A 5 out of 5 in terms of enjoyment. It's the type of goofy, over the top, yet somehow you get emotional, type of story I always enjoy. I also enjoyed parts of the old woman laura story, especially the start and very end.

Bad: Some parts of the old woman laura felt kind of boring or cliche. I also thought the storyline of revenge was just okay and had been a little out of place here.

Overall a solid goodbye. I think it could have been stronger but what we got here was entertaining. Overall I enjoyed Taylor's run for Wolverine, and while not as strong as couple of the middle volumes, it was still a good send off. A 3 out of 5.

This story was alright I guess. The initial story was Laura and Gabby and Wade taking down the guy who destroyed their pets family and was experimenting on him and the other Laura teaming up with Amber (an Orphan of X from last volume) and sort of giving her solace and peace and a story in the future like OML except its utopia and their last threat: Doom and well its something you would expect the way it will go and thats the way it goes!

Its not a bad volume just doesn't have the level of excitement of previous volumes but Taylor does something different here rather than give a dystopia.. he gave Laura an utopia and brought a lot of plot points together from his run like with Bellona and Hill and ties it up and gives a great ending to Laura and it was a spectacular run and makes for good one seat reading and showing he evolution of Laura and making her the definitive wolverine! So yeah a recommend for sure.

Issue #31 is the best. 5/5 🌟 Deadpool and Honey Badger team up and slay scientists who made zombie animals.

The other issues were decent too...

It was an ok end to Taylors run. An issue with Wade, an issue with some Orphans and then a 3 issue run on Lauras final days. It was good fun and emotional at the end but I feel like some his earlier issues were alot better.

It's a pity to see Taylor's All-New Wolverine end so soon (but what doesn't at Marvel nowadays). However, his limited run is probably what allowed him to go out on a high note.

The strength of Taylor's Wolverine has always been his character writing. So in this volume we get a short about Gabby's relationship with Jonathan (and Wade), a short about how Laura is dealing with the Orphans of X, and a three-issue story about Laura's final days(?) that allows Taylor to really go to the heart of who she is.

The three-parter is also wonderful for Taylor's view of a future, ever so briefly sketched out, but still powerful, and for the image of a group of young (and not-so-young) heroes coming together one last time to make the world a better place.

The final issue had me in tears. What more can you ask?

[Read as single issues]
All good things must come to an end (usually earlier than they ought to if you’re a Marvel Comics series), and the time has come for All-New Wolverine to conclude. But first, Laura revisits the Orphans of X, Gabby teams up with Deadpool, and in the not-to-distant future, Laura Kinney is dying and she’s going to take Doctor Doom down with her!

First up are some one-and-done stories. We haven’t had many of these throughout the history of the series, but Taylor manages these as well as the longer form stories easily. One is an epilogue to the Orphans of X arc, which rounds off the dangling plot threads there, while the next is a team-up between Gabby and Deadpool which is one of the best and most hilarious single issues you’ll read this year, guaranteed.

And then there’s the titular three issue Old Woman Laura arc; initially I thought this would be a poor Old Man Logan riff, but it’s of course the Laura twist of that – it’s oddly optimistic despite the sad state of affairs that Laura finds herself in, and it’s as close to an A-Force book as we’re going to get for a while too as all these badass ladies team up to take on Doctor Doom one last time. It’s a good send-off for the series, and just goes to show that even a tragic character like Laura can have a happy ending.

I think I’ve worked out what it is about Ramon Rosanas, who draws the Old Woman Laura story, and his art style that doesn’t gel right with me. Some artists give everyone a case of same-face, so everyone looks almost identical with different hairstyles (not to be confused with porn-face, where everyone looks mid-orgasm and is drawn by Greg Land), but Rosanas gives everyone a case of same body. Laura, Captain Marvel, Maria Hill, all of the characters in his three issues look interchangeable aside from their faces. The storytelling is fine, but when the only way you can tell the characters apart is by their superhero costume it’s a bit worrying.

The Deadpool team-up issue is by Marco Failla who turns out a great showing using the comedy chops he’s already proven over on Ms. Marvel, while Juann Cabal takes the Orphans of X epilogue which is thematically appropriate since he drew the rest of that arc too. Cabal is especially good, and is following Laura to her new solo series, so that’s a good thing.

This is probably more of a 4.5 stars because of the art issue, but I’m rounding up because this series is too good to go out on a less than perfect score. Tom Taylor captured something truly special with this book, and it’s a damn shame to see it go. At least the characters will continue on elsewhere, but it just won’t be the same.

A pretty beautiful emotional finish.

World: The art is good, it's solid and is able to convey emotions so well. There tone is great the sense of motion fantastic. The world building as with all final runs with writers, there is a sense of closure and using all the pieces the writer has created and that's what's happening here. The time jump is great, it allows for Taylor to tell his own story and end on his own terms but also not need to set things up for the next creative team.

Story: The Deadpool story is fantastic and it's a great resume for Taylor to get the job, the humor is spot on. The closure we get with Laura's past is also fast and well. Then we have 'Old Woman Laura' which is simple, fun and hits at all the best emotions. This is a great little end for the series and the end is beautiful.

Characters: Laura is perfect, Taylor made her so complex and fun do full of a district personal voice. Then there's Gabby, Taylor's greatest legacy for Wolverine, she's the best, I can't describe her other than the best. The rest of the cast is solid and fills in the story and offers the emotional punch the end needs.

A good end, I wish there was more from this team but...ah Marvel...

Onward to the next book!

This was a great run. A lot of fun. Laura and gabby and Jonathan were all great characters. It was funny and endearing and spoiled the readers with happy-ish endings. When I first saw the female wolverine I wasn’t happy about replacing logan. But X-23 is a great successor. A truly great character. She may be Logan’s clone daughter person but she is an original character for sure. My favorite among the female replacements for people who are upset there aren’t enough female superheroes but don’t have the originality to create new ones so they just replace the male heroes who already have a strong following even though they sell a lot less Comics because of it. Ok. That’s the end of my rant. All new wolverine is definitely worth your time! 4 Star book. 5 Star series.
Also I read the first 2 issues of x-23 and it’s great. Seems to be a straight up continuation of this series and so far it’s awesome.

Jonathan the actual wolverine, Deadpool and Gabby look for justice and closure.

Laura Kinney and the orphans of X look for justice and closure.

Old Woman Laura and Wolverine look for justice and closure.

Perfect blend of seriousness, action and humor bring this series to a fitting end.

my primary takeaway from this series is that gabby and laura are the best, and deserve more comics. my secondary takeaway is that they managed to make daken not...terrible. there were some solid moments with him, even if he's 2edgy2bcool 99% of the time. also? deadpool + gabby = my new favorite comics friendship. in general, i wish there was more room given for rage-filled women in comics that weren't villains or mentally unstable.

the last volume felt very...wish fulfillment. they knew the run was ending so they decided instead of continuing any longer narrative, they'd just do a couple of short stories to get out ideas they had and involve heroes they wanted. it ends up being choppy, and the last one just doesn't make a ton of sense and is more than a little over the top. laser claws? bad future haircuts? why does thor look like a caveman but miles morales doesn't look like he's aged a day? okay sure. gotta have a reason for that random mjolnir joke i guess.

Pretty good wrap-up to this series, though kind of a mixed bag, story-wise. First, Gabby calls up Deadpool and the two take down an animal testing facility. I really liked the interplay between these two in an earlier volume, but it wasn't quite the same here. Then, there's a callback to the Orphans of X, as Laura seeks out one of the bad guys who'd used her as a weapon in the past. And then there's a three-part "Old Woman Laura" story that really could have been longer, following future Laura's scheme to sneak into Latveria and kill Doctor Doom. Good artwork again throughout this.

A series which shouldn't have been up to much concludes, as it often ran, with a really lovely volume, flashing forward to a possible future which for once isn't dark and depressing, but actually quite nice. Kamala Khan is President, the heroes won, and there's just one last thing a dying Laura needs to do. But before that – cute zombies! Arson! Nazi-stomping! And other wholesome fun.

Definitely liked this better the second time so bumping up the rating to 4 stars, but it's also pretty rushed with the different arcs in one volume. Like, give us more of a developed story if you're doing one on a future

-----------------------------------

'If I were weaker, you'd already have my claws slammed through your eyes and out the back of your skull.'

Since this is the last (sobs) volume in the All-New Wolverine series, it's only natural to expect different artists as well as one-shot storylines, which is why issue #31 and #32 are individual stories while issues #33 to #35 encompass a flipped Old Man Logan storyline which explores a utopian world.

I loved #33 since it was about Gabby and Deadpool teaming up (one of my fave duos since they just work so well together) which meant sass and humor and yes. #34 was about Laura fulfilling her promise she made in volume 5 to an orphan of X and it was pretty interesting. Both of those pretty much deserve a 5-star rating each from me.

However, issues #33 to #35 are when the story isn't exactly a good one. I did have fun reading about this alternate universe where everything is just about peaceful, but it's also...lacking. It's sad how easy it is to imagine a dystopian future, but a utopian one feels completely out of reach and then the ending is a little too on the nose. I don't know, I was expecting something much more even if I loved all the female power from Kamala Khan to Hawkeye and the general badassery and kickassery. I do get the point of it, just not that . Also,

Overall, the art is great this time around and I absolutely loved it in the last three issues! What we deserved throughout, TBH

Favorite quotes: 'Aghhh! A zombie sloth! Okay, this could take a while to be a threat. You want something from the vending machine?'
'Vengeance.'
'They have soda.'
Soda will do. For now.'

'I know you were going for a heroic sacrifice, but more heroes means a more heroic sacrifice.'
'That's just basic heroic sacrifice math.'

De mis favoritas es el primer volúmen, The Four Sisters y Enemy of the State.

2. ¡Gabby!

I really enjoyed Tom Taylor and the All-new Wolverine from volume 1 to 6. We get 3 mini stories in this last volume and I really liked all 3. The first story is short and involves a deadpool and honeybadger team up, Deadpool plays the mentor to Gabby and its a fun little ride. The second story is about Wolverine helping an old friend, probably my least favorite but some solid action and story. The last story involves the "old-man/woman" treatment Marvel currently just loves. It actually a really cool story that condenses a larger story down to a few issues, it was fun that way since it almost feel like a big event. I loved the future costumes and cameos especially Kate and Janet. Seriously the team of wolv, honey, kate, marvel, Maria, and janet would be a cool uncanny story.... with lots of violence and action please.

The art remains a big draw, its crisp and colorful and really well done.

Anways its a great series and I highly recommend it!

These are my thoughts on the series as a whole because I more or less read it as a whole. I've been a fan of x-23 for years. Since her introduction in xmen evolution. 13 year old me liked the idea of girl wolverine, a concept that would probably annoy me today but the reason I still love her is what they did with her. Is what she became. Back when I did re comics regularly, I'd follow her around from series to series. I loved her run, both mini series, new x-men, x-force, avengers Academy, and even nyx. My favorites parts always seeing how she handled have friends. When I heard she was going to be wolverine, I was like cool. Because really, who else? Daken? Laura has over 10 years of history...yes that is short for a comic character but she's been around a while. I really do like Laura in this. She's changed. No in the this is so out of character way but more in the shed grown as a person way. Also I like gabby. Shes like a what Laura could have been if she got to be a kid a little. Not to much, gabby still has trained to kill issues but not in the same way as Laura

I was a little disappointed that someone who was dedicated to not killing decides that her last act will be to kill someone, even if it's Doctor Doom. Laura seems to be dedicated to reconciliation, and this runs counter to that. And contrary to probably popular opinion, I think Doom is redeemable. He is not someone who is swayed by creature comforts and I think has shown throughout his history someone who has access to a "higher mind." Regardless of who it is, I think Laura should have stuck to her principles. Also, the jump forward in time was a little strange and I wasn't sure what the purpose of it was. I'd like to hear Taylor's take on it.

Super good big finish!

This has the feel of an Elseworlds or What If...? story, but I guess it’s canon, which is awesome. The “Old Woman Laura” storyline that flashes forward to the future is the kind of thing that Jonathan Hickman always tries and leaves me cold, but Taylor rocks it here. I like this approach of making each entry feel like a short story centered around a couple characters, reminiscent of the old Marvel Two-in-One, One Shots, and Team-Up. (Marvel Team-Up was my fave back in the day.) So echoing that format was great. This stuff is such a breath of fresh air when compared to the clunky crossover events: get in, get out, cool story, all wrapped up. Perfect.

This was an amazing run! I'm so sad to see it end! The Old Woman Laura arc was a nice way to send it off though! The art was great in this volume, and I've been waiting yeeeaaarssss for a Laura/Julian "reunion", so seeing them together here, no matter how limited, was very nice for me, personally.
