The story was really basic, almost like it was written for children, especially the very telegraphed unveiling of Terry's brother as Robin. Dan Jurgens seems to be returning to form as a meh writer. I enjoyed Phil Hester's art on the series. The issue Bernard Chang wrote and drew is awful. I couldn't tell what was going on. Stick to drawing, bud.

Ouch, this was pretty meh.

SO I enjoyed volume 1-2 of Batman Beyond. This...this is kind of like a filler episode. I watched Beyond growing up so I enjoyed it then, and I enjoyed the revival here. But it feels like it lost it's way in this volume. We have basically a bunch of villains, or some-what villains fighting Batman but really the big reveal, or character to add to the group, is Terry's little brother becoming Robin.

Good: Terry is still a interesting main character, and I like him and Bruce together. I also enjoyed some of the big fighting moments here.

Bad: The storyline is really bad IMO. Just doesn't hold any weight. Also, what in the fuck was the main bad guy's storyline? Like his motivation was horrible. Also, Terry's brother becoming Robin was so telegraphed that when it happened it was dumb.

Overall this wasn't horrible but easily the weakest in the volumes of the series so far. I can't go above a 2.5...actually I'd probably land on a 2.

Some nice nostalgia and some new ideas.

World: The art is good, it’s not Chang but then again there are things about Chang I don’t like (character eyes). The art is kinetic and captures the show perfectly and that to me is the best type of Batman Beyond art. The world building is also solid, address some issues that this new series has had, like Dana and also the world at large since ‘Futures End’. The pieces from the animated show and previous comic books was interesting and I enjoyed see that.

Story: The story is paced well, the action fast and the story basic, it’s a fun read. There is not a lot of depth here but there are certainly enough moving pieces to create enough drama for this to be a fun book. The stuff with Dana was lightly dealt with but I hope in the future we get more, the Ten stuff the same and of course the Max stuff the same. The villains this time around were nostalgia and well done and the story about beyond Gotham is good, it’s something I feel that this series need to address more. Overall the end was good and leaves a lot of interesting pieces in interesting places for more drama to come.

Characters: Terry is good, he’s accept who he is and what he wants to do, but there is still a sense that the story needs to slow down a bit for character development and quiet moments, emotions are very on the surface and their is no subtlety at all. Dana is okay, but she barely is developed and simply there to react to a superhero as a boyfriend and we’ve read this so many times in so many ways that this creative team needs to find a way to make it fresh and do another perspective and take for it. Ten is always great, I want more of her. Max and Bruce and the situation there is an interesting one, I’ve liked Max since the new series and as I said above this book does need to slow down a bit and give us some small quiet moments and character issues to make us care about these characters, they need more personal voice and depth.

A solid arc in the series, needs more depth.

Onward to the next book!

Terry lays the beat down on DC's favourite corny-themed schlubbs in the Royal Flush Gang (though this lot must be playing Texas Hold 'Em as there's only three) then fights a cyborg hunter with amazing tracking and combat skills who somehow couldn't find a better way to provide foodstuffs for his home village (come on, get on LinkedIn, man!)... Little brother become Nu-Robin as well, in the world's least-surprising development. And, oh yeah, there was some guy named Payback! Frankly, I'm hoping that there is more pay off in the next volume.

Someone is paying all of Batman's old enemies to attack at once, and if Terry can't catch a breath, he's never going to be able to find out who it is. And when he seems outnumbered, familiar faces from his past return to assist, whether he wants it or not!

This volume's a great example of what a Batman Beyond comic should be. We get callbacks left, right, and centre as heroes and villains from the series make themselves known again, drawing on past continuity with a new twist to keep you guessing as to who and what is actually going on. And even though this is mostly just a greatest hits type story, it does drive the ongoing narrative forward as well for Dana, Bruce, and Matt so they all end in very different places than they start (poor Terry's mostly just beaten up and confused). Phil Hester and partner in crime Ande Parks pencil all six issues of the story, and there's a strange charm to his kind-of-unfinished lines that really sells the book - it's not as good as previous entries, but it still feels right.

There's a one-and-done issue in the back written and pencilled by Bernard Chang that also fits the same mould, bringing back Shriek and Freon for a short story, but it's very muddled since every page has three stories going on simultaneously. Chang's art is still great of course, so it's a shame this is the last we'll see of him on the book.

The Long Payback accomplishes a lot - it hits all the right nostalgia buttons, throws in a few curveballs, and still manages to push most of the characters involved forward.

Batman is back I mean Terry and the first person he goes against is King and Jack from the Royal Flush Gang, they want his attention and they do get it and they fight and it goes as expected. Seems like someone else has hired them to take down batman and the fight is meh and seems like there is some super secret spy. Then he fights this guy named Stalker whose fighting to obtain food for his village, while his story is sympathetic the fight is one sided and ends too fast and then enters the real villain: Payback! The story of why he is doing that is ..yeah good one. And their fight is good too. Ten (former member of RFG) comes to rescue but Payback has her too and Batman is captured and enter Batman to the rescue and then what follows..the fight was okayish. Nothing so surprising or that thrilling that could have been. But still decent throughout and some serious questions about someone calling Child Protective services on Bruce..okay that was a good one lol. (spoilers) The question is serious How can Bruce let children fight for him and like he did with Matt here and sets up interesting conflict for the future.

The last story contained here was super weird, it had so much pacing problems and even though the art was decent, it was a slog to get through but then again it was not written by Jurgens so explains why it was bad. Terry has to fight Shriek, Freon and the hacker or something and its bad and boring as hell. Overall a decent volume with good fights and a fun one and done batman story!

Unamazing basic plot with a villain with dumb motives I had guessed even though I knew nothing of him before now. As for Matt’s tenure as Robin... it was as obvious as unrequested. So disappointing.

Phil Hester does the job. I do like the guy but the return to a more cartoony style kind of pales in comparison to Bernard Chang.

Chang’s story (plot and art) is an attempt at something but falls way off base. It ends up confusing and uninteresting.

Terry, Bruce, and Matt get back to Gotham. Terry deals with several villains that come including Payback, Stalker, and others.

Nice to see Terry again. Hope Bruce will do better with back surgery. Also hope Matt will be good as Robin.

When Batman is in trouble, who comes to the rescue? Robin of course!

So this volume of Batman Beyond was a big long and convoluted way of introducing us to the new Robin. And unfortunately, Jurgens takes us on such a contrived and confusing way to get there, that it really took away from my enjoyment of the book. This volume felt off compared to the first two, and I think it's because Jurgens was kind of padding out the story a bit to get to the Robin "reveal".

And I say "reveal" in quotes because it is so telegraphed that Terry's brother is going to be Robin, that by the time it happens you are kind of rolling your eyes. I mean, its issue after issue of "hinting" - again, quotes because it's less hinting and more bashing your head with what's about to happen - at the new Robin reveal that the surprise is far from over by the time it actually happens. Couple that with villains who are non consequential and uninspired, and you have yourself a very "meh" volume.

Hopefully Jurgens gets us back on track in the next one.

Batman Beyond is still schway, whatever that means. Reads o.k. as an all ages title but one note in every villains motivation being the same. The intro to Robin has legs .

I was excited to see Ten again, but I wish she had actually gotten to DO something. The Robin stuff was dumb and predictable, and Dana has become more of an annoyance than anything.

The actual storyline just took wayyy too long. First it's one guy but really it's this one but... ugh. Could've all been settled in two issues.

Batman Beyond: The Long Payback picks up where the previous volume left off, collecting the next seven issues (Batman Beyond #13–19) of the 2016 on-going series and collects two stories: "Gotham Games" and "The Long Payback".

"The Long Payback" is a five-issue storyline with a conclusion (Batman Beyond #14–19) has Terry McGinnis as Batman taking on the Royal Flush Gang (Batman Beyond #14–15), Shaka Okoro as the Stalker (Batman Beyond #15–17), and Gray Stanton as Payback (Batman Beyond #17–19). It also introduces Matt McGinnis as Robin when things get too complicated for Terry McGinnis as Batman by himself.

"Gotham Games" is a one-issue storyline (Batman Beyond #13) that has Terry McGinnis as Batman taking on Walter Shreeve as Shriek, Bo Han as The Hacker, and Mary Michaels as Freon in Neo-Gotham.

With the exception of one issue Batman Beyond #13, which was written by Bernard Chang. The entire trade paperback was written by Dan Jurgens. For the most part, it was written moderately well. Jurgens has reintroduced the Royal Flush Gang into the DC Universe in tandem with new villains created to add to the Rouge Gallery, but it seems like too much to fit in one storyline. Interestingly enough, Matt McGinnis has finally become Robin, which has been foreshadowed in previous issues.

With the exception of one issue Batman Beyond #13, which was penciled by Bernard Chang. The entire trade paperback was penciled by Phil Hester. Since he was the main penciler, the artistic flow of the trade paperback flowed exceptionally well. For the most part, the penciling style is a tad too blockish for my taste, but done well nevertheless.

All in all, Batman Beyond: The Long Payback is a mediocre continuation to what would hopefully be a wonderful series.

A solid follow up to the last volume. This time around Terry is having girl problems, since his brand new GF was immediately targeted by a super villain trying to get to Batman. We also see a cast member take up the mantle of one of the original Bat Family, although it’s not clear if that will “stick” or not.

A new art team takes over, and while I missed Bernard Chang (who wouldn’t?) Phil Hester’s pencils are solid, and probably more inline with this books theme, as his take is a bit more cartoonish.

This was another volume that read like a Saturday morning cartoon (except for that implied midday quickie between Terry and his new GF, LOL).

Overall, this was solid, but suffered a bit from pacing issues. There is a one shot story at the end of the volume that was a bit confusing. It tried to tell three stories at once, but ended up feeling rushed and incomplete.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard from Joker yet, after he was implied to be the Big Bad back in volume 1.

I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a slightly more PG13 version of the Batman Beyond cartoon. On to volume 4...

Historia nastawiona na nieustanną bitkę. Ktoś zleca zamach na Batmana i zadania podejmuje się m.in. King and Jack z grupą złoczyńców zwanej Royal Flush Gang.

I am beginning to feel bad Terry because the villains are out to kill him and what Stalker did to him was an overkill. That how much people hates Batman in this time. His former girlfriend Melanie Walker before Terry got back with Dana Tan which was rather unexpected surprise. In my opinion Terry can't do this alone anymore he need allies to back him up in the field than people who giving him command strategies which already have plenty. Bring family to this fight actually can bring problems than solving it. However he may not have a choice especially when criminal organized and vicious than before. Things are getting shaky with Terry and Bruce take on Terry's little brother Matt going in as new Robin.

Look... I like Dan Jurgens as a writer. Yes, back in the 90s I called him my fourth favorite writer on the Superman titles. But in my defense, that was back when you had people like Louise Simonson, Karl Kesel, and Roger Stern on the other Superbooks. So it's sorta like being the least talented Beatle.
Almost since the TV series started people WANTED Terry McGuinness to become some form of DC canon. The crossover that preceeded this series (Future's End) was a case of 'be careful what you wish for, you just might get it'. The series is fun... but not great. He's clearly TRYING to make the best of a bad situation... and doing way better than can be expected of him. It's just not to the standards I hold him to.

So this volume is finally having Terry fight his own villains instead of fighting Bruce's old villains and I do like that. While I do like it when Terry does fight some of the big time villains that Bruce fought as a way of establishing that yes Terry is in the DC Universe but it always feels better when he fights his own villains as it makes it feel that Terry is his own character does not need to rely on Bruce's legacy. Stalker, Payback, Ten, and Shriek are all well done and I do like that they continue to have Ten being an ally of Terry and we do get to see Terry get his own Robin who has a pretty unique look for a Robin.

The first story arc with Payback, Shaka, and the Royal Flush Gang worked all right, although it seemed stretched for what it accomplished in terms of any deeper storytelling or character growth. The final issue this volume felt like filler, or the weird beginning for some new big thing that functions entirely as background to some story next volume. It was worth reading, but I was hoping for better.

Hester's drawing made the characters rather cubic, I wasn't sure if I really enjoyed the art style. First we have the Gotham games, which is really a one shot showing the rise of other vigilantes. Then we have the Long Payback, it had some really interesting moments but then they disappoint you because of the red herring. It's not a terrible volume, but the "twist" to the Long Playback was rather silly, although it lead to the creation (predictably) of a new Robin.

Terry faces people who have been both foe and friend while a legacy villain makes a mess of his attempts to have a life outside of the cape, and not repeat the mistakes of the previous generation (to little success). And all this happens twice, basically. It's more successful in the long form story - the one issue 'Gotham Games' mixes in different faces but it's for basically the same story, and it sacrifices quality for stylistic choices.

Batman Beyond runs a gauntlet of his rogues gallery including the Royal Flush Gang, Stalker and Payback. Melanie/Ten returns in a heroic role, and Matt suits up as Robin for the first time.

It’s not a volume I have much to say about to be honest but I enjoyed it. A good, simple story with plenty of action and cool characters.

Solid ongoing stories of Batman Beyond with interior art by Phil Hester. Was interesting to see the series continue, but in TPB form, this volume of the collection wasn’t as strong as the previous one, Rise of the Demon.

Definitely not the greatest I've read, I really don't like how Dana is presented either. Cause she's right and she should say it, but they're really trying to make her out to be a bit controlling and unfair I think? It's weird.

New ideas and beyond

The epilogue story arc is a little difficult to follow. I do recommend this series to people who just love bat man. The people behind this series are very creative with potentially new technology.

overall solid story

Some of the one offs in this volume were really random but overall this was a good story. The intro of a new member of the bat family was awesome. And I love the redesign of making Barbara Gordon younger.
