Cadence Hurley was no stranger to pain. After losing all the family she knew, suffering an injury that left her with a limp, and having to resort to living on the streets of Baltimore, she knew her life could only get better. A chance to go West, courtesy of a mail-order bride agency, seemed like the answer to all of Cadence’s prayers.
But not all was as expected in Shallow Springs, Wyoming. With the marriage Cadence counted on falling through, and with no prospects back east, life seemed to have hit her with a dead-end once again.
To survive, Cadence once more needed to make her own way. Procuring a job as a schoolteacher, she threw herself head-first into a new life. But there was just one problem. The dark-haired, surly cowboy named Beau Johnson.
Beau couldn’t take his eyes off Cadence, no matter how much he knew he should have. After his whole life came crashing down six years before, Beau had accepted that everything he touched turned to dust.
So why couldn’t he do the right thing and stay away from fierce-eyed, strong-willed Cadence Hurley? Was it the light in her drawing them together? Or was it the pain that they shared?
One thing is for sure. You can run as fast as you wish, but if the past isn’t done with you yet, it will always find you… sooner or later.
Florence Linnington stumbled upon writing historical romance at a young age, and has never looked back. What drives her to keep going at her writings are simple: joy and peace.
Florence's novels strive to bring characters to life, be they having a strong personality or an unassuming nature — it is this mix of disposition that makes novels a pleasant read.
New to discovering my mail order bride books?
You can start reading any of my books in any series — that's right, any one of them as each story is a standalone read even if they are in a series. You will not get lost; you can still immerse yourself in the story 'universe'!
I absolutely adored this book. So far this series is wonderful and can't wait to get to the next one. Cadence came as a mail order bride for a farm owner. Upon her arrival she was advised he could not honor his request because of financial difficulties. Beau and Cadence have many skeletons in their past that haunted them. They try to be together, but the past kept sneaking up and creating discord between them. Will they ever find trust, love happiness and their happily everafter together?
Tragedy is part of life, especially true for the time period of this story. Bad things happen to good people all the time. Call them God’s will, or odd circumstances or plain bad luck – still, no one’s life is untouched by the pain of losing loved ones. The difference between people is how we handle those horrible times, or maybe, how we don’t face them at all. Her Wild Journey is Beau and Cadence’s romance, a love story that is hindered by the past and how it is still affecting their present and even their future.
Emotionally, it’s not always an easy story to read for the pain that Beau and Cadence feel is very real to them, even though much of that pain is through misunderstanding and holding back the entire truth that is needed to make any love work. Because I try to not give away spoilers (or go beyond what is in the descriptive blurb) there are parts of this story that I cannot give an opinion about because doing so would give away parts of the story.
But I can say that I enjoyed Beau and Cadence both individually and together. They needed to talk to each other truthfully and far more than they did… and that is a huge part of the point of Her Wild Journey. Two people must get beyond the things left unsaid, the impact decisions made in the past will have on their future. There were moments when I wished I could sit them both down for a stern talking to… yet, I also understood where each of them made mistakes. It’s a touching romance and one that any Western Historical Romance reader would enjoy.

I enjoyed reading this book. Cadence had suffered unthinkable loss, only to struggle to earn pennies in city streets. Answering an add through the local bride matching service, she headed out west. Once there, things didn't turn out as planned. Deciding to stay in town anyway, Cadence ran into a cowboy around town a few times in her first few days. She later learned his name was Beau, and his hard, cold, and judgemental ways spurred on a mutual dislike of each other. How will she make it without a husband or a job? Twists and turns would make life very I interesting for her!
I found the story & characters engaging but there were some things that bothered me. Cadence would have these epiphanies where she would suddenly become self-empowered and the next day she was back to feeling sorry for herself. Beau kept changing his mind throughout the whole story and every time one thought he came to his senses he would go off on his self-imposed judgment on his "darkness". He made Cadence suffer so many times that I wish she would have made him work a little harder to obtain her forgiveness. It seemed too easy.
I think the story was good overall and happy with the ending. I feel that it was a little choppy or the transitions wasn't as good especially in the beginning. Stuff was pushed fast especially in the beginning with the main 2 characters meeting and relationship. I will definitely still read the second book.
I couldn't connect with these characters and the relationship between the 2 main characters was annoying and boring. No disrespect to the author but it wasn't my kind of story, I like stories with more efficient on our Lord.
I enjoyed this story of adventure and romance, the characters in this story where in and out of love and endearment. The author has done a great job of putting together her tale of romance.
A few twists and turns in the romance department keep Candace and Beau at odds. Trying to work it out and survive being a single woman she becomes a schoolteacher. Hard to put down
Beau and Cadence both had a past they wanted to forget about but neither of them could especially when they figured out that their lives had intertwined years ago. I loved this book!
