This is a wonderful Highland adventure and romance. The book kept my interest all through the book. There were several memorable characters which added flavor to the reading. I love the fact that the heroine, Juliette, is not a damsel in distress. She is a high-born English lady who has lived a comfortable life. Juliette is someone who needs to know everything, every last detail of a subject she is involved with. She is skeptical and wants to see proof. In the story she went through things that someone without determination would fail at. She became a survivor. She learned to do things she never thought she would ever do. She made up her mind that she would do what was needed no matter what it was. Our hero, Tam is a Highland warrior for Scottish King Alexander. He is tall, broad and handsome. He knows how to live off the land and how to survive. He is patient to a point. He also has a good sense of humor. King Henry of England wanted to keep the peace between him and the Scottish King Alexander. They came to an agreement to send two English maidens to the Highlands for two hundred days. In the hope of reviving the spirit and will of Tam, the Highlander, who was a close friend of the Scottish King. King Alexander held Tam in high regard. Tam was one of his finest warriors. Tam rescued the King's daughter and he blamed himself for the death of his wife. Tam was racked with guilt and grief. He did not seem to be able to overcome it. So. King Henry sent Juliette and her sister Vienna to stay with Tam. At first the sisters were suspicious that they were being married off. Juliette and Vienna thought lowly of Scotsmen and would only entertain marrying English Lords. But to appease their king and their father, Juliette and Vienna traveled to the Highlands. Once there, Juliette and Vienna were in for a grand adventure and Tam was in for the surprise of his life. I did enjoy reading this and highly recommend it. Title: Thistle and Thieves: Highlander Romance
Author: Elizabeth Preston
Genre: Historical Romance
**RECEIVED FREE COPY FOR HONEST REVIEW**

This is my first time reading anything from this author. Originally, the only romance I would read was historical romance. I haven't read any historical romance for some time and after reading this book I wonder why I ever read such novels.

The book wasn't overly bad. I mean, typical storyline was used. It is the 1200's and an English lady is sent to Scotland to be paraded in front of a Scot who will soon be an Earl and Laird.

So, what did I like about this book? Not a lot. I just really never became invested in the characters. It was obvious we were meant to feel for the characters from their storylines but they were flat; Until maybe 60% in.

Regardless, the usual formula continues of H & h interacting and falling in lust then love. Don't forget tragedy and adversity are thrown in the story. Our h evolves and becomes who she was born to be. But our H, went from broody Alpha to happy and laughing in only a few pages. Bipolar? Cause he did all that in a matter or moments after meeting the h.

Ok, gotta ask...do people in the 1200's know about polar bears and are they called POLAR BEARS in that time period? Between discrepancies like the polar bear, the reproductive organ names made me wince...skin sword? Seriously? I can't believe I I used to read only historical romance at one time.

Overall, I wasn't impressed. I wanted to give 2.5 or 2.75 rating but couldn't so I rounded up and gave 3 stars.

ARC Received from HG.
I also got The book📑 with KU.

What a wonderful book📑! I was instantly mesmerized by the writing and intense story. There were a couple of instances where references were made to animals they would have likely known nothing about in those days, but all in all, it's well written and is a real page turner.

This is an Adult Alpha Male Romance, although the adult scenes are few and very tame by XXX standards. 2 on a 🔥hot scale of 1-5.

Discovering purpose

Juliette and Vienna were English sisters sent to Scotland in order to jolt a Scottish laird from his despondency over the death of his wife. Neither sister wished to be there for 200 days. They believed they would be surrounded by barbarians. However, Juliette impressed Laird Tam with her outspoken remarks. She finds herself as a passenger in a boat race with Tam at the helm but in stormy conditions. They are shipwrecked and separated; captured and held prisoner by Irish outlaws. Toil and suffering through her experience teaches Juliette how she might survive were she to escape. Rescued by Tam they encounter a group of novitiates hiding in the forest. As Juliette gets to know them she learns she wants to help people find better lives for themselves. This is a great read with variety and adventure woven throughout.

This is a fascinating and entertaining story. Tam is strong, smart and caring. Juliette is bold, brave, stubborn and caring. King Alex needs Tam to leave his mourning behind him, so he sends Juliette and Vienna to entice him, but they think that it's just to cheer him up. Juliette is determined to not marry a Scot, Tam is determined to not remarry ever. The drama and fireworks start soon after they meet, and get more intense as they get to know each other. But a series of unfortunate accidents have them realizing that they care about the other, then the king gets involved again. It's a very entertaining and intense story that I couldn't put down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Having thoroughly enjoyed Hemlock and Honey (Book 1 in the series), I knew that another delightful read awaited me. I love feisty female protagonists and dark, brooding men, so I was more than enthralled with both Juliette and Tam. The storyline was an intriguing one, filled with unexpected challenges at every turn. Ms. Preston has delivered another well-plotted, character-driven novel. Highlander romance at its best!

Crazy mixture!

Not my usual period read but I was tempted by the book cover….Well
What a crazy mixture!
I suppose there are some historical accuracies in here but I don’t think “ Listen up girls” was the language of the day, “pink
elephants “ was a saying, or a noblewoman would have her arm up the birth canal of a sheep!
It’s bonkers and tremendously corny in some ways, highly unlikely in others, but some of the notions are fun and the story has a momentum of its own.

A romance with a very early setting

This tale has it all reluctant maidens, sharp tongues, dark hero's, contrary Kings, not to mention wild stormy seas, Irish outlaws, hungry wolves and a healthy dose of list and love. Throughly enjoyable read

This was a quick read. It was exciting and adventurous for some of the read. It was great to watch the two love birds fall in love. How beautiful the story was. This ia a series which can be read individually without having to read the whole series.

Rather bland

It was ok. A little far fetched in some parts. Just didn't really grab me. I also thought the character of Ram could have been cleaned out a little more.
