It's good to have such a complete collection of the poetry of Donald Wandrei, and Hippocampus Press deserves praise for publishing it, even if the contents are a mixed bag. Wandrei's association with the weird fiction and poetry scene of the early twentieth century is significant, although compared to his correspondent Clark Ashton Smith, Wandrei is clearly the lesser talent both in metrical poetry and prose poetry.

So even though I'm giving this collection a middling rating, I'm glad to have had the chance to read it, since it helps to fill out the picture of that productive period for weird poetry, and it contains several pieces that are well worth reading on their own merits.
