Still very rushed and without much depth to any of the characters :/
It's sad because the plot itself is good and the potential is huge...

Since half ratings aren't allowed, I'll round up what would be a 2.5 to 3 stars.

As this is book two, unsurprisingly, the same major issues I had with the first book linger in this one, so instead of going as in depth here, I'll basically list them:

Too short to be a true epic fantasy
Hard to connect to any of the characters
Lack of worldbuilding and explanation of the world's history
Plot seems to be lacking necessary pieces that would make it flow together

That being said, this book held my attention better than the first because there was much more action. So much more action. And the stakes were amped up and obviously dire.

Again, the world is just absolutely fascinating. My biggest regret with the series so far is that the world isn't properly explored, so things sort of just drop in and out and don't feel like they really tie together for a good picture of the world. We don't get to live in it, and I didn't feel like I had enough of a backstory to really understand both Amalia and Kylan's roles or fully appreciate them.

I also have very little sense of the cultures in this book, and that seems to be important to the plot. I mean, considering the Brotherhood is the big bad here ... I'm not entirely sure what their end game is. Which is problematic for an antagonist. I also have no idea what's up with the gods, who they are, what their rules are, etc. Is there only three of them, or are there unmentioned ones? Why do they appear to some people and not to others? This is sort of a big deal here, as they're the driving force behind this plot, yet I know pretty much nothing at all about them.

The magic is sort of murky, and I have no idea how it works. I feel like this was sort of glossed over. It just conveniently does what it has to at any given moment. There's runes, but I have no idea what they do. Apparently, it's possible to steal a rune? The gods also can give blessings, but I'm also not sure what that means.

Like the first book, the biggest letdown for me in this one is the length, because it doesn't fully live up to the potential that's laid out. There's just so many more questions than answers, and I'm sad considering what a wonderful world it seems to be. I felt like there was too much missing.

This review may contain spoilers for the first book....

I honestly couldn't wait to find out what happened, so as soon as this book was released I grabbed it. I was hoping for a lot more and this book even with 144 pages, gave me what I wanted and more. I am so invested in Amalia and Kylans story and what will happen next. The ending was great and I can see the next book being the start of Amalia being a complete badass.

This story starts where the last one left off. You get a lot of Erani history in this book plus a lot more about who Amalia and Kylan are. I would have liked a lot more details but for me it didn't take away from the epic story. You find out a lot of certain people in this book and you also lose a few people that I have grown to like. I am excited to see the relationship grown between Amalia and Kylan, I also wonder what will happen when Aros comes back. Lots of things are still open.

I think the only thing that is preventing this from being EPIC 5 star is the lack of details and how quickly things move along. I wanted an epic battle and the details just weren't there. I am hoping the story will grow on the characters more because even though I love the relationship, I feel like the connection isn't there yet. I feel like somehow the magic connection they have is only really one sided. So I again hope that the next one will have all the elements I am missing in this one since this one had all the elements I was missing in the first one. (does that make sense?)

Overall, I am really enjoying this series. I am hoping to grab few more of her books. I do like her writing style and how the story flows is easy to read. This book isn't good for younger kids, I highly recommend for adults and lovers of a quick exciting fantasy. Even with everything I just said, I am really loving this series! :)

Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

Kylan and Amalia are finally together.
The whole things turned out really strange to be honest. So we have the gods playing around to make things happen. At time it feels like they are betraying their own champions because the way to get where they want to be at isn't the most pleasant. And at other time it also feels like the characters don't actually have free wills and that everything happened for a reason. It's kind of disturbing if you think about it.

The way the event are going we are now also following Aros who is totally messed up. There is quite a bit of mystery around him. And by the end of the book we still have no clue what he is on about. "Gather the wolves" first how the hell is a nobody guy supposed to so that. You would think the gods would have ask someone at the head of the clan. Then Aros decides to go to human territory, hum, I'm not really sure how that's going to gather any wolves I guess I'll have to wait for the next book to see.
I'm not really sure what to think about Aros honestly he seems pretty weak since the end of the first book.

Then there is the whole Erani part that's a bit weird. If father Marduc actually created them why does he want to destroy them now is a bit of a mystery. And I mean yeah the guy got nuts but still.

The story felt a bit rushed. I mean it was a short book and the first in the series was a bit too short to. We don't get enough details about the characters and the relationship they develop. Like people dying is horrible but in this book like in the first I didn't really feel like it was all so much of a big deal for me as the reader since I never had the time to actually learn about those characters too much.
In the first book I actually felt kinda happy when Amalia's fiancée died because that meant she wouldn't have to marry him, lol. I still have no idea what her parents were about trying to give her a "normal" life when they should have known she was so far from it.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the next book. I hope it gets better.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

3.5 for me.

The first book left you in a cliffhanger so it was cool to jump right back in. It's been a while since I read the first book, though, so when I got back into the second one, it took a while before I remembered all the details of what had transpired. I really did like the world building and the idea of all these races spread out, hoping to come back to Erani (gah, seriously still so cool). Amalia and Kylan have officially met, but I think a little more fleshing out with their bond would've really sold it to me.

I liked the details the author did with the scenes because it slowed things down in a nice way that got you interested. However, she also kinda slowed things down for me in small moments that ruined the momentum, so there's that. Overall, I think this series has a lot of promise and it would've blown me away if it weren't in the fast pace type of writing style the series is already set for.

Amalia and Kylan are currently imprisoned by Father Marduk of the Brotherhood and are being taken to the Temple. The Erani Empire heir is now back with her her dragon, her people have heard and are on the way back from far and wide. The will also be surprised when Father Marduk reveals something. Can Amalia and Kylan gain their freedom from the Brotherhood and survive the many tests they have to overcome? Is Amalia ready for the fight she has been preparing for?

Wow - lots of things happening in this story pulling together lots of strings that were put in place in the first book of the series. There was a lot of drama and danger in the story and everything was clear and easy to understand.

Liked book two in the series and will need to read on soon so I can find out what happens with Kylan and Amalia.

Father Marduk brings his prisoners to the Temple of the Brotherhood and sends Kylan off to an outlet where the other firedrakes are kept. Amalia is sent to stay with the Shi'Syn Cleric, Elko. Brother Dagan does his best to help the two prisoners, including revealing some interesting facts about Marduk.

Everything will come to a head when alliances are formed and battle lines drawn. Once Amalia has had enough of the carnage she reaches for her magic, and then the fun really begins.

Amalia and Kylan are back in Reign of Magic, the second book in K.N. Lee’s extraordinary Empire of Dragons series. It’s an epic fantasy adventure on a grand scale. Escaping the Brotherhood and the best that devious monks can throw at them, dealing with assorted yuckies (experiment failures on the god level) and everything else thrown at them. I have faith in this duo, and am very happy to enjoy the (extraordinarily well written) ride.

Highly recommended, with the caveat for newcomers that this book is best savored after reading book 1.

3.5 stars. Reign of Magic is the second book in the Empire of Dragons Chronicles series. This should not be read as a not a standalone. There is violence.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. There are clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. Overall it is an interesting storyline and worth taking the time to read. I look forward to reading more about Amalia and Kylan.

Wonderful!

This is a wonderful story. The storyline flows from the first book to this one seamlessly. It is well written and compelling. Amalie and Kylan have been captured by the Brotherhood Mages. Somehow, they must get free! I love the diverse cast of characters, magic, dragons, dark elves, monks and gods. Throw in an ancient prophecy, courage, pain, loss and love by the author and you can't help but have a great story. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next one!

The premise of the story is still really good but the book, and overall series, suffers from the short length. There's just not enough character development. It becomes an issue the more you read. I like plot and depth. I want to know why I'm supposed to care about these characters and what we get is thin. Wasted potential for sure.

There are also a ton of editing problems in this book. Wrong words, missing words, extra words where they don't belong and a character seems to change names from one page to the next. It's very sloppy and was enough to pull me out of the story from time to time.

I really like the story and can't wait to see where it goes next. Although I like the story I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a lot of detail in the book, like everything seemed so rushed. I would have loved to know the details of their dreams together or the stories that her and Eiko shared, or how Brother Dagen was found out. Their deaths weren't an impact to me because I didn't get to know them like she did. Other than that I enjoyed the story.

This whole series needs a new author!!!

This whole entire series needs a new author. The thought
And the idea of it is good but the way the author exerts it is extremely bad. This seems like it was written by a teenager. The books are way to short and extremely rushed, and the character build up is absolutely horrible. This could have been a good series but the author lacks in the story telling aspect of writing a book.

Reign of Magic

A magically whirlwind of romance, suspense and destiny. I was swept away from the first page anxious to see what was going to happen next. I enjoyed how fast paced the story was. It moved quickly sometimes for me a little too quickly but it was enjoyable nevertheless.
I definitely look forward to more!

It was horrible

Very immature writing, story line made for idiots, heroine without any redeeming value besides being beautiful. There was no relationship between the main characters so nothing developed further especially accounting for the fact they had no characters. Heroine scared out of her wit for 99% of the book - grow some back bone, girl. It was just a bunch of junk.

Reign of Magic (Empire of Dragons Chronicles #2), as good as the first book was this one is better, picking up seamlessly from book #1 leaving you panting for more. A fast-paced story with well-developed characters in a well-developed setting. The only way it could have been better is if it were longer Enough said, no spoilers from me, be sure to read the book.

I enjoyed this story. Amalia and Kylan are imprisoned by the Monks in their hold but not locked away in the dungeon and forgotten. Just a cool story that I devoured to see what would happen and how they would escape. Thought the ending was great and not exactly as I thought it would be. Cheered at the end. Just a good story. I loved it.

I have a difficult time reading this book. It has so much promise, it really could have been a terrific book. I kept in mind that it's only 150 ish pages, but it felt too jumpy, like the author switched thoughts too frequently while writing the book. The story has potential, but I want to know who edited and published this book, I feel that it wasn't ready or finished.

A bit more action with the good guys winning some....While Amalia and Kylan start out as captives with no hope the books has more action and the world around them expands. This book is a bit less depressing, even though it starts pretty sadly.
The series is starting to get a rhythm going, so worth your time and $$

This fabulous paranormal storyline is well-written with vivid imagery and worldbuilding. The characters are developed, interesting and entertaining. When all these elements are combined the result is a Do Not Miss book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

Meh

Much like the first book there was not enough story and too many character types. Instead of creating her own world these books read like fantasy fan fiction. It’s mildly entertaining, but not the type of book you’d read again and again.

The story continues

This second installment to the series was good. All the twists and turns makes this an enjoyable fantasy read. I do enjoy a heroine who isn't a needy whimpering submissive. Moving along to the next book in the series.

Book 2

Book 2 had errors throughout and was a fun read. The story jumps a little and does not explain the time differences very well, from one moment to the next, but is fun to read for a short story.
