Alienation is a fabulous thrill ride! Full of excitement, emotion, and aliens, it will keep you entertained from page one to the end! If you love quirky and humorous, then you need to pick up the Starstruck series!

Oh man, this was exhilarating! It was hilarious, emotional, and brilliant! I have been dying waiting for Doctor Who to come back, and Alienation has satiated my hunger for the moment! It had everything I loved about one of my favorite shows, and had S.E. Anderson's unique style and personality taking center stage!

This one was so much better than Starstruck, and I gave that one 5 stars already! Alienation saw the return of our favorite space traveling alien, but also turned the focus to the lovable, quirky Sally! I really learned a lot about Sally and how strong she is. She was so brave and yet, still had a vulnerable side that snuggled up next to her witty humor and sarcasm. She used her head and followed her heart, and kicked ass along the way.

I could not have predicted the wild turns this ride took, either! Man, it was good! The story paid homage to several popular fandoms, all while keeping its originality and whimsy. It was daring and fascinating, and still managed to bring to light important issues of equality, inclusion, and the importance of humanity and friendship. If you haven't read Starstruck yet, I highly recommend buying all three books because the first two were so addictive that I am dying for the next!

Alienation, the follow-up to S.E. Anderson’s debut sci-fi romp Starstruck, is grander in scale and far more intense than its predecessor. Don’t worry, though; there are still plenty of laughs to be had, and Anderson never loses sight of what drives Sally and what keeps her going in spite of… well, everything.

This is very much a fish-out-of-water story. I suppose Starstruck was, to a degree, but whereas the first book had a supporting character learning a new world in Zander, Alienation puts Sally through the proverbial wringer, plunking her on a foreign planet, separating her from Zander and Blayde, and… I’m not sure which winds up harder for her, the mental anguish or the physical pain.

Seriously, Sally goes through some stuff here.

But all the qualities that made Starstruck so great remain in Alienation. Sure, the fantastic world and strange alien species are cool, and it’s fascinating to see how the locals react to Sally as much as vice versa, but the strength of this series remains the humor and the heart. There’s a certain whimsy throughout much of this book, which makes the darker, heavier passages easier to navigate, and Sally’s continued growth is evident.

For all the change Sally endured from the beginning of Starstruck to the end, she grows even more here in Alienation. To see someone so anxious, so used to life being an absolute dumpster fire, seeing Sally stand up straight, ball up her fists, and pretty much say “Alright, enough of this crap” is as satisfying a journey as zooming through the cosmos.

Too much science fiction anymore is dark, gritty, and so damn focused on apocalyptic futures. That’s fine – there can be some great stories to come from that backdrop – but Anderson’s insistence on not falling into that trope is a large part of what makes Alienation every bit the excellent read Starstruck was.

Anderson is not afraid to go for a laugh, but she also takes great pains in crafting a memorable protagonist who's easy to fall in love with. More than anything, S.E. proves that science fiction can not only be funny, but it can also have tremendous heart.

I started on this ride with Starstruck and Alienation did not disappoint. It was even better than the first book.

Our heroine grew out of her teen angst phase right quick and became quite the fighter. Not as in physically, although there is some of that, but as in she stood up for herself. I loved how the author didn't fall back on the trite idea that anything you eat on another planet won't hurt you. The Down Dwellers were fascinating and the overall world building was excellent.

I highly recommend this series and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

Another fun chapter in this series, although it did drag a tiny bit near the end (it may just be that I'm not a fan of a certain trope). I loved all the little pop culture references, from the relatively recent (Everyone has a plumbus in their home) to the slightly older. I didn't know Arthur Dent was still a thing with the current generation. Then again, there was that movie thing.
Plotwise, I like that the protagonist is making tough choices (no good superhero-like choices here), and yet we never get into any essentially dark and depressing parts of the story that make you want to step out of the book for a bit. There is always an element of escapism present to keep that levity that moves the reader onward. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

To start off, I have to say I love this cover. After reading this book it also makes a lot more sense. Once again, this author's writing sucked me right into this story and I couldn't put it down.

It's been two years since everything went down in Starstruck and Zander is back to keep his promise. Sally gets to go on an adventure in space, to a different planet. Sally is pretty shocked, it's been two years and she never expected to see Zander again (for Zander it's only been two weeks). They go on an adventure and nothing goes as it's supposed to.

Starstruck had me confused at times and missing pieces, but Alienation didn't have that at all. The pacing in this story and everything that happens seemed to fit together so well. Alienation is a space adventure gone wrong, but kept me on the edge of my seat. I was so curious about how things would end for Sally.

S.E. Anderson gives us amazing worldbuilding. The places that are described are freaky, but sound so interesting. I wouldn't mind taking a trip, but just not as dangerous as the one Sally goes on. Sally really developed in this story. She starts off as still pretty insecure about a lot of things, but this adventure proves to her how strong she is. Even using her geekiness helps her along the way.

There are a lot of fandom references that made me smile and the chapter titles are a lot of fun. Alienation also has a cast of some interesting characters and unique ones at that. I would've loved to have seen more Zander, but I get that this story needed to be a bit more about Sally. She needed time to find herself and notice how strong she really is.

And the ending actually shocked me. I figured this adventure would end and she would somehow get pulled into a different adventure (I know there are two more books). That was definitely a twist I never saw coming, but I can't wait to find out where Sally's story takes her next.

I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of this book, and I loved it so much!

Sally, our protagonist, is plunged into a world of aliens and unfamiliarity and must navigate it, while, of course, becoming tangled up in an awesome plot where she has to save the world. I loved how this book shows Sally on her own--Zander promptly loses her as he's giving her a tour of an alien planet, and at first, I wasn't sure that I *would* like it. After all, my favourite parts in the first book were the interactions between these two characters. So having Sally navigate this world alone is certainly a bold move. But it works SO WELL. It really helped me connect more with Sally and find out more about who she is, and about her past too. The characterisation is phenomenal too, as Sally's forced to get stronger and more confident, and we see her overcome her earlier anxiety (but not in an 'it's all cured now' way--no, it's still believable). But I love that we see someone who has mental health problems surviving in this world.

Yet, this book doesn't lose the humour either. There's plenty of that, and it keeps the tone light in places where it might otherwise get too heavy.

There are also some great new characters (aliens!) in this book, and each felt really well-rounded (whether they were good or evil), and provided a really entertaining read. And that ending!

I'm going to start this off by saying that I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have just finished reading it. I got through 2/3 of it in one night, fighting off sleep for the sake of seeing what would come next in this crazy adventure Sally finds herself in the middle of (completely avoiding spoilers here, by the way). And I can honestly say that I'm not disappointed, and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Single Impression: AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING

Alienation is the second book in the Starstruck Series by S E Anderson, and it does not disappoint. It opens with a crazy fast-paced start that leaves your ribs sore from laughter, and takes you away to a world that only a brilliant mind could imagine. Intentional or not, Anderson’s story brings to life, how scary it is to leave home. Whether you’re travelling with interstellar jumpers, or simply going off to college, it is scary to leave home. But it’s how you handle it, and who you are on the other side of that change that really matters.

Anderson’s writing style is fun. She has humor, wit, and satire in spades! Even in the face of extreme danger, her characters’ smart ass remarks keep you laughing the whole way through. The authors great and funny use of metaphors make the story real and relatable: “My palms were so drenched in sweat; I could have single-handedly rehydrated a desert.” I’ve never felt myself so easily able to relate to a character. I also strongly recommend paying close attention to Chapter titles in this series; they’re so fun!

The author doesn’t just create a whole new world in your mind, she makes even the little things alien too, with sayings like “out of the red” and “poking my nose.” The settings in this series are so important, and involve so much detail. In each new location, Anderson rises to the occasion, making the reader feel like they are right there. Enough detail to fill all the empty spaces in your mind, but not so much that you grow tired of reading about details, rather than plot.

Each element of this book is handled with absolute finesse. From the gut-laughing intro, that pulled me into the new world with Sally and her alien friends, to the suspense that had me chewing my finger nails and shaking to turn the page the whole way through. “Webber, Sally Webber: Interstellar woman of mystery” was brilliant, pulling things out of her you-know-what, while somehow managing to survive in this alien atmosphere. And finally, the conclusion left me with a feeling that I feel like every book should have: The story for this particular book felt finished, but still left me wanting and aching for more. I can’t wait to fall down the rabbit hole with Sally again, bring on book three!

I'm so happy that I could review an ARC of this book before it's released. You can see so much improvement from the first book of the series to this one. Alienation is so much better. The pace is faster, without the sudden slowdowns or time-skips of Starstruck, and the fight/action scenes were so thrilling, I loved to read them. I very much enjoyed Sally's humor when she's narrating the story, and it was nice to see her turning into a badass by contact with the siblings and the absolute messes those two get her in.
With that being said, though, I don't think Alienation has already used up all its space for further improvement. The end of the book, for example, was very abrupt (the opposite of the last book's awkward two years time skip). I know that Zander and Blayde are the sort that just saves worlds and disappear, but I really wanted to have an idea of what happened afterward, instead of having the most climactic scene at the end suddenly cut down short.
And sometimes I got a little bit bored because Sally started talking too long about a certain thing, person or situation. I didn't feel that she needed to explain everything so much to the reader.

I was given an ARC of this in exchange for a review.

I found this to be so much better than Starstruck. The pacing was so much better and I was so glad it didn't take nineteen chapters for things to start happening.

Without giving too much away from this story since it's not out yet, this story picks up right from the epilogue of Starstruck and brings us back to the story of Sally Webber, Zander, and Blayde. What starts off as fun and relaxing trip to a far off planet for Sally, quickly turns into anything but fun or relaxing.

The ending was kind of abrupt and left a lot of loose ends. I'm not sure if there will be a third book in the series or not, but if there won't be, the ending left a lot to be desired. Overall, I enjoyed Alienation a lot more than Starstruck and I'm so glad I pushed through the first book so I could experience this one.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was therefore really looking forward to this second book. However, I feel a little disappointed after finishing the book. This book lacked depth and direction. It somehow felt like it was chaotic and all over the place and it lacked the reveals the first book contained. I'm not sure if I will continue the series. I already own the third book, so maybe I'll see if I like that one and decide afterwards...

That was CRAZY!!! But a good kind of crazy :D
Poor Sally needs an 84 years long break after just two-three days of "fun" xD

A great sequel, very fun to read. LOVED all the geeky references and all the different alien species and the worldbuilding (literal, since we only saw one world xD) *chef's kiss*

It was a fun and easy read! If you enjoyed Starstruck, you'll enjoy this!

I enjoyed this more than I enjoyed Starstruck. While I certainly liked both books, Starstruck was a bit too quirky and pop-culture-y for my tastes. While those same elements can definitely be found here, its used a bit more sparingly. As a result, I find this book overall much more enjoyable.

The entire book is set in space and you can tell the author couldn't wait to get us there. The worldbuilding here is great, another improvement from Starstruck. SE Anderson's story thrives in its new setting.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here!

I was fortunate enough to get a ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

While I wanted to love this story and give it five stars I could not do to the lack of interest. I really loved the first book in this series and was hoping the second one would catch my interest as well; unfortunately that was not the case. The book picks up where the last book left off but I feel like there is something missing within the storyline, just not sure what it is. As this book was ending I found myself liking it a bit more and am actually looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to beta read this book. Then again after some changes and tweaks to an already good story, that made it into an amazing story. Alienation is book two in the star struck series and gives us more time with our favorite human Sally and favorite aliens Zander and Blayde only this time on an intergalactic journey. Zander has promised to show Sally the stars and what was meant to be a relaxing quick getaway turns into contrary of anything relaxing. This story is face paced keeps you engaged and makes you feel like your out there somewhere in another galaxy. Has a little bit of everything from iffy pizza, to a sarcastic thrill seeking sister, intergalactic mobsters, a whole under city, unexpected marriage proposal, giant party, odd creatures, zombies, and Technology surpassing our own, a Whovian, and an alien crush. To be honest one of my favorite reads of the year! Thank you S.E. Anderson I am just going to go over here and wait not so patiently for more of this odd trio!

“For a minute, I thought I must be dead. What did death feel like, anyway?”

Sally Webber's dream is coming true: Zander is back and taking her out for a night on the town--on a planet hundreds of light years away from Earth.
But when an accident separates her from her alien tour guide, she’s thrown into the seedy underbelly of an insane city where nothing is as it seems. Suddenly lost and desperate to get back home, Sally is willing to do anything to get out, even if it means accepting spontaneous marriage proposals, crashing some fancy parties, or joining what appears to be the space mob.
All she wanted was some decent interstellar pizza, but now it might be the end of the world as evil nanobots and an out of control AI try to take the universe by force, and the only one who can stop them is missing in action. Sally has no choice but to try to stop them herself--if she can stay alive that long.

I have to give this book a snap applause- I was in love! From the opening chapter to the last page, I was intrigued the entire time. Anderson’s writing never fails to disappoint me and Alienation was and is now one my favourite books! Alienation is the follow-up to Starstruck and honestly, it picked up and left off beautifully! The word choices and adaptation to the last book were spot on and I felt as if nothing was left out. This was an easy and fun read and I could not put it down! I read it in one night, losing sleep of course but it was my favourite book that I’ve read by far!

I loved Sally’s character so much to the point where I could sense her pain, both physically and mentally throughout the book. Sally is thrown into the world of aliens but of course, there is more to this life that meets the eye. I also loved how the characterisation of Sally was portrayed in a raw light as she faces social anxiety and her nerves get the best of her in certain parts of the story. I felt like I wasn’t reading but watching a movie unfold before my eyes as the descriptions of scenes, emotions and characters were absolutely amazing. I’ve never been so thrilled and intrigued while reading a book.

“The possessed were climbing the sides of the building like it was a child's playground. The ones below looked like insects now, like the ground didn't exist anymore.”

I would like to thank S.E. Anderson, for sending me the follow up book to Starstruck in exchange for an honest review. I gave this book 5/5, if I could go higher, I would! This book is definitely added to my Top 5 reads of this year! Way to go Anderson, I can’t wait to read your next book! If you love Young Adult, Science-Fiction and Adventure stories, Alienation is the one for you!

Do you wish that someone would write a book with an essence of the Fifth Element so that you can ride along with characters in flying cars and try to negotiate with alien gangsters? Of course you do.

Well, Alienation is it. Put on your best leotard, strap yourself in and hitch a ride with Sally as she's dragged across the galaxy for pizza, parties and robot overlords. This is the second book in the Starstruck series, and although I really enjoyed that first book, Alienation really hit all of the geek wonder I could hope for. Its humerus glimpse into intergalactic class division, politics and A.I. strong-arms will keep you flipping pages and wondering what's going to happen next.

So, order a pizza (or... maybe don't. Your mileage may vary according to this book), put on a cushy robe, and sit down with this book. Your deep desire to know about intelligent life "out there" will thank you for it.

Alienation is the second book in the Starstruck Saga. The first book was hilariousy, intriguing and clever, book 2 was even more so and I actually laughed quite a bit at this one.

Another 5 star read.

The plot of this book is brilliant. We get to see another planet that may feel a bit familiar, but ended up being super unique and very fun to read about. The downdwellers were so heart wrenching and I want them to be freed and get to live out their lives in somewhere that isn’t complete darkness.

There is a lot of jokes in this book that had me laughing. Sally is such a great main character and I will forever love her inner dialogue. She is definitely very close to my heart and becoming one of my all time favorite characters. Zander and Blayde were amazing as well.

I liked this even more than I loved the first one! I can’t wait for book 3!

This one focuses mainly on Sally. Zander and Blayde are in the first and last parts. It was hilarious at times and it kept me reading with each bad turn Sally ran into. Tons of action and we get to meet new characters and revisit some old. The story leaves it wide open to the next book and I am really looking forward to it. I loved the first book in this series and was so pumped about reading the second. It was amazing and I couldn't put it down. Taken to a far distant planet our favourite Sally is trying to have her one-time adventure and make the most of it. Of course things aren't always that easy! The book was engaging from page one, I was super excited, pulled into the story and managed to read it all in one sitting. I love Anderson's way of telling the story in such a down-to-earth way even when we're completely off earth! The words pull you in and bring you along for the ride. Anderson is an author to watch! Highly recommended!

After reading the first book of the series, I could hardly wait for this book to be available. I’m now stuck waiting for another installment.
Just like book one, the story moved at a good pace. I was happy to see the main character’s interaction with new characters and situations. It’s was fun seeing her growth. I feel a few things were left open, so hoping they are hashed our in book three. All in all, this is a good read. I would recommend the series.

Sally, Zander and Blayne continue their adventures. Zander has promised Sally a day off Earth but he loses her. She falls right down to the bottom of where they are to where the ground dwellers live. She has lost Zander and Blayne and is now on her own to find her way back to the top. But she is told that once you are down below there is no return to the surface. She ends up fighting for her life and also working with criminals. Will Zander ever find her again? This book has it all. But I really wish a romance would heat up between Zander and Sally.

I was given this ARC to review.

Oh wow this was an amazing read! Alienation is the sequel to Star Struck, and it went above and beyond expectations!

Alienation was the perfect blend of Doctor Who and The Fifth Element.

Again the main character Sally is very relatable. She takes you on the adventure of a lifetime with so many twists and turns it is hard to even guess what will happen next!

If you love YA, science fiction, and/or adventures in a read... then this book will pull you right in!

I have to say I rather watch sci-fi movies than reading books, however I liked Starstruck and that made me decide to read the Alienation. Now I'm on to the Traveler, the third book in the series.

p.s. and I don't even like series...
