Lilah Love #2

Murder Girl

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones returns with the second book in her electrifying series featuring Lilah Love, an FBI profiler who doesn’t fight her dark side—she embraces it.

It’s Lilah Love’s job to inhabit a killer’s mind. The unapologetically tough FBI profiler is very comfortable there. But her latest case is making her head spin. It’s a string of brutal assassinations carried out across the country, each tied to a mysterious tattoo. Body by body, she’s followed the clues all the way back to her hometown. And every step of the way, the killer has been following her.

Here, beneath the glamour of the privileged Hamptons community, is a secret long buried but never forgotten. It’s bigger than Lilah. It’s powerful enough to escape the reach of the FBI. And it’s more personal than anyone can imagine. Because it’s hiding in Lilah’s own past. To fight it, she’s forced to turn to her lethally tempting ex, Kane Mendez. He’s an expert at bringing out Lilah’s darkest impulses. If she plans to survive, she’s going to need them.

descriptionThis is going to be kind of a short review as I don't want to give anything away, and basically everything I said about book one applies to this book as well. It was a fantastic book. Well written. Fast paced. It was teeming with twists and turns, and intrigue. Lies. Secrets, and betrayals. Thankfully, we are given some answers to the questions we were left with in book one, but some remain. On top of that, we are left with a whole slew of new ones. Again like book one, we have a full cast of characters that make up this book. Each one intriguing. Each one mysterious. Each one potentially hiding secrets.

Last, that brings me to the one thing I did not care for...the relationship between Lilah and Kane. I love both characters, and I love when they work together, but as a romantic pairing...well...they were a bit of a snoozefest. Their relationship progress felt stagnant to me. I honestly don't know how to explain it better than that. I almost wish the author had done away with the romance angle completely (maybe just had Kane and Lilah be good friends that end up working together) as there are so many other things going on that the "romance" takes a huge backseat. Anyway, that was just a small issue in the grand scheme of things and all in all I adored this one and can't wait to see what happens in the next installment. description

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start with this review. Lilah was literally all over the map in this one. She was fierce, she was determined, and absolutely no one, friend or foe or family alike was going to stand in her way. While her attitude rubbed me the wrong way pretty much from beginning to end, I absolutely respected the crap out of her. LRJ created one heck of a heroine with this woman and you really don’t have to like her in order to admire how she gets the job done.

A killer is still on the loose, secrets abound, and the only person that Lilah knows she can truly trust is Kane Mendez. And rightly so because while he’ll turn on anyone else, he’ll always have her best interests in mind. If only she could accept that he deserves not only her trust, but her heart. Especially when he’s there for her during all of the turmoil that has arisen during this case. As they get closer to the killer, the facts turn into doubts and Lilah is stuck trying to make sense of it all, with Kane by her side. Despite the fact that most of the evidence she collected would be inadmissible in court in real life, it was a heck of a lot of fun watching her do it. I’m really looking forward to her and Kane kicking some secret society buttocks!

OMG I love her twisted mind. Awesome book!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Such a horrible name for a book, don’t you think? Unless you are looking at the sequel to the story about FBI agent Lilah Love. And if you have read the first book, Murder Notes, then you will understand why this book is named such as it is.
I’m so happy to be able to review this new book as the first book just blew me away. But make sure you have your head in the right place to read this story. Dark, gruesome, and a whole lot of sexy all wrapped up together.
If you’re ready for that, check out my review below.
Murder Girl by Lisa Renee Jones
Sometimes I have to wonder about the type books I gravitate to. I love the twisted minds and the amazing ability a writer has to have to create these twisted paths and intersected stories.
Not many writers have that ability. I’ve read many books in this genre - romantic suspense, thriller, crime fiction, cop fiction; and there several authors that stand out as doing well. There are also authors that I don’t read anymore because they don’t do it well.
Trust me when I tell you that Lisa Renée Jones is an author that does it extremely well. She always has the perfect balance of intrigue, darkness, edginess, raw emotion, sex and heat, and so much more wrapped into her stories. She writes in a way that makes you feel addicted to the book... like a craving you just have to have.
I started reading her books from the romance side and now I read her books because of the intrigue and the suspense. The romance and sex is the cherry on top. Pun intended. And trust me, Kane is definitely a cherry on top.
Murder Girl is an intense, fast paced book that will twist you around in so many different ways that you feel like you cannot keep track of what’s going on. And I like that. I like being surprised in a story. That’s exactly why I read books by Lisa Renée Jones.
Huge impact in this one. Make sure to grab it and part one, Murder Notes. You simply have to read it first! Now bring on part 3!
Book #2 starts right where we left Lilah in book #1!
She just arrived at Kane's to see the boss of the Romano cartel bound and gagged in his garage! What is happening? And why doesn't Kane want her to dig any deeper into the tattoo and the killings and everything that happened back then?
But Lilah is not giving up.
Added to her Kane troubles, her colleague and ex lover Rich is now in the Hamptons too - sent by her boss to help. But she can't have Rich anywhere near Kane or the killer! She doesn't want another dead person on her conscience.
Who is the bad guy? The bad GUYSSSS???
Let's hope Lilah will find out everything before too many more people are killed!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO LILAH???
WILL SHE CATCH THE BAD GUYs???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺
═════════════════════
Finally book #2!
I really enjoyed the first one and as always with a second book, I was mega scared that I had forgotten too much. BUT - Lisa is amazing at making us Bookalzheimer sufferers remember the previous book! She spent the first SEVEN percent of the book telling us all about what happened in the first one! AMAZING! Thank you LRJ!!!
And then we're right in the middle of Lilah's adventure!
And we still don't know what and who and how and why and grrrrrr - I wanted to take a peek at the end to find out if everything will end up okay, but of course I kept on reading without sneaking a peek!
description
In my opinion it started out a bit slow, but it soon got really exciting - with more people dead and more than one killer? Who is hiring these guys? What is happening?!?!!! It's all mega exciting and Lilah is trying her best to find answers without getting any of her loved ones killed. And that includes Kane. He wants Lilah back for good, but she thinks that will never work - her badge will not allow them to end up happily ever after - BUT maybe the reader can still hope for a happy end.
As the story goes on we find out what is behind things, but this book will not end with all the bad guys behind bars and all the cases closed. Lilah still has a lot to do... and I can't wait to get started with book #3 - I haven't heard anything about this being more than a duet, but I realllly hope so!!!
If you want to compare this series to a TV Show, I would say it's a mix of Criminal Minds & Revenge! Profiling FBI meets Hamptons small-town rich families and politics.
I wouldn't mind seeing this on Netflix one day!!! I really need to see Kane!! ☺
And I also wouldn't mind a story about a few of the male guest-stars in those first 2 books!
MURDER GIRL was the perfect 2nd book in this mystery thriller series!
Super exciting, page-turnerish, funny - and so much more!
Run to your nearest amazon to find out if and how Lilah will catch the bad guys & for your own peek at Kane ;) !
It is highly recommended that you read the first Lilah Love book... MURDER NOTES. Murder Girl is a continuation featuring all the characters from the first book. The beginning of Murder Girl gives a several-page synopsis of the first book, all the characters and how they all relate to each other.
Lilah Love is an FBI profiler who manages to inhabit killers' minds. She calls it her dark side. She is called in to investigate brutal killings taking place in various parts of the country. Each killing is tied to a mysterious tattoo ... a tatto she is only too familiar with.
The killer is leading her straight to her hometown ... a small community filled with long buried secrets.
This is a well-written suspense, with unforgettable characters. Again, it is recommended that the reader start at the beginning in order to understand what's happening in this book. Parts of the story seemed to drag a little, but would quickly pick up the action again.
Many thanks to the author / Montlake Romance / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Murder Girl starts off where the previous book left us, right in the middle of an intense investigation with Lilah Love. This book takes us deeper into the secrets surrounding Lilah's family and leaves you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Even the ending, which wasn't a full on cliffhanger, will have you dying for more.
The suspense is what I loved from the previous story and also what I enjoyed most from this one. I'm a big mystery fan so when a book can leave me guessing the entire time I instantly fall in love. With this book though I think I just couldn't stop comparing it to Murder Notes and I found it lacking when I did so. This series started off so well that I went into this book expecting something extra special and it just didn't deliver for me. The suspense was still well written and captivating yet there were moments that everything seemed to drag and it became a little boring.
I know the book wasn't a romance so I didn't go into it looking for a romantic aspect, but the fact that Kane was involved and his relationship with Lilah was brought up so many times made me start looking for one. I'm a true romance lover so I latched on to those moments and wanted more answers to what was going on between Kane and Lilah, so then when we didn't get more I was disappointed.
I think this story was amazingly well written for a suspense and it's one I will definitely recommend. The 3 Stars rating and complaining in my review was just for my own reasons of not enjoying this book as much as the previous one and didn't have anything to do with the writing.
3.5 some things resolved; quite a few others not yet stars
This is book 2 in the series featuring Lilah Love, FBI agent whose favorite word is the f-bomb and favorite thing to do is whatever she effing wants to at the time. Note that this is not a standalone; it picks up right where book one (Murder Notes) left off, and it ends with some things left open-ended.
To get more information about the story and our h, check out my review of book 1 --> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... I don't want to go into details because it would definitely give things away, but the main mystery (as in who killed the people that lured Lilah back to NY) is resolved at the end of this book. And while it was mostly satisfying, it was a little anti-climactic for me given the build-up. BUT since there are more pieces in play, and Lilah is now aware of something key that she did not know about to this point, I feel like the story is moving in a very interesting direction. So I am onto the next!
Please note that I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Plot --- 3.5/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level* --- 2.5/5
Violence --- not overly graphic but crime scenes and attack flashbacks
Language --- Lilah's fave word is the f-bomb
POV --- 1st (Lilah's)
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
This starts off right where Murder Notes ended. I would recommend reading these in order; otherwise the plot, the numerous characters and their connections may become very confusing. However, at the beginning, there is a summary of the action so far.
I gave the first book 5 stars, I absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to continue. Not exactly sure what happened, but this wasn't anywhere near as exciting. In fact, there were parts where I almost switched off. I still think the protagonist, foul-mouthed FBI profiler Lilah Love, is fantastic and her relationship with Kane, member of a crime family, is interesting. But I think the development of the plot was a bit lackluster. Still, the ending sounded encouraging and I will certainly read book 3 when it becomes available.
2nd read: Still love it!
1st read: I'm seriously in love with this series. I'm fascinated by the process of watching the main character figure out clue by clue to solve a series of murders, as well as dealing with what happened to her two years prior and how that all may be connected.
To see how an author can have so much going on in a story and slowly connect everything that happens to the people we get introduced to just has me riveted to the pages. Trust me, you will not be bored with this series. The more you read the more it sucks you in, and the more you want to find out the truth right along with Lilah.
The romance part is not a major focus but still a big part of the story. You do get to see Kane and Lilah work together more in this book vs the first book and I hope that will continue. I like these two together. Kane having Lilah's back just increases the excitement of the story. He should be forbidden to her. He should be the one she trust the least, but the fact that he is the only one she can trust makes him one of the most intriguing characters besides Lilah herself.
This is not a standalone. You have to read book one or you will not only be lost, but also miss out on some major things that happened. While this did end with a bit of a completion, it still is not over. Lilah has accomplished one task to a very big picture. I'm excited for the next book and looking forward to what will be revealed next.
Lilah Love, our Murder Girl, is back and she's on the hunt for answers. Unwilling to accept everyone's solution of a fall guy Lilah is looking for the true murderer, whether that person is an assassin or a serial killer or something else entirely. Sure, she has killer instinct, but a stalker, her family, and her ex-boyfriend make focusing difficult. As the clues continue to tie together, and tie to her, she finds that everything going on in the Hamptons is a little more personal than she first thought it to be.
"A bad drug still feels good when you're doing it."
I am so excited that Lisa Renee Jones came up with the Lilah Love series. I thought book one was good, but Murder Girl is even better. I definitely only predicted some of the things that happened and those that I didn't predict shocked me. I mean come on, serial killers, assassins, odd tattoos, and several dead bodies? It pretty much is a guaranteed great read for me. Lilah is as witty as she was in the first book, only this time it was sort of nice to see her have to give in a bit and reveal she isn't entirely the closed off girl we think she is. That said, she is an excellent FBI agent and I really liked the interactions she had with other FBI and members of law enforcement. She also is smart and sassy, which makes her a great heroine to face a pretty charming and very handsome ex. Of course, I mean Kane. We met him in Murder Notes, but we get to know him a bit further in Murder Girl. I'd go as far as saying I'd even like a book or chapters from his perspective, you know his back story and the time apart from Lilah has to be interesting. On top of these two and their sort of odd relationship, there's the continuation of the story from the first novel. The bodies, the crimes, and all signs point to corruption and assassinations, but how Lilah Love starting tying it all together is so interesting. She sees things in tiny conversations that I'd never think of and she definitely knows how to look for the right thing. I can't give away the story, but let's just say she's darn good at her job, even when it gets personal.
I'll admit, it took me a minute to get back into Murder Girl, the book takes a bit longer than the first novel to get to the excitement, but once it did I was hooked again. We discover that nothing in the Hamptons is what it seems and Lilah's circle of trust just keeps shrinking. It's almost stressful to read from her perspective, I'm positive I wouldn't be as level headed as she was in discovering that nobody is as honest as they present themselves to be. While it is a continuation from the previous novel and it ends with nearly all of our questions from the first novel answered, it also sets us up for a future novel, leaving us with, yes, more questions. That said, I'm even more excited for whatever could come next for Lilah Love. The ending was perfect, like probably the best ending of a novel from LRJ, because it's just the right amount of intrigue to keep me wanting more, but it also isn't a true cliffhanger and I'm pretty darn thankful for that.
Murder Girl is a stunning second novel in the Lilah Love series and though I always swear I am not going to start another new series I certainly cannot deny that I will be reading every single Lilah Love book that Lisa Renee Jones releases. If you like your heroines sassy, the smut hot as heck, and the action constant, plus a bit bloody, this is the series for you.
MURDER GIRL (Lilah Love #2) by Lisa Renee Jones is the second book in this thriller/suspense FBI profiler series and picks up right where the first book’s overall plotline left us hanging for more. You can pick up this book which has a great synopsis of book #1 in the beginning, but the first book was just as well written, so I really do recommend you take the time to read it, too.
Lilah Love is one of the best profilers in the FBI. She can get into the mind of the killers’ she profiles without emotional involvement hampering her job and so the nickname “Murder Girl”. Her present case has her returning home to the Hamptons and her ex, Kane Mendez is waiting for her. Lilah believes in law and order, but is drawn to the dark, while Kane is the bad boy, millionaire business man who could be all bad, but he continually tries to fight the dark for Lilah.
Lilah is piecing together the clues of a series of murders others believe are not connected, but she believes are done by an assassin and are all tied together. Each time she gets another piece of the puzzle, she is taken down another path that may go back years and could connect to a secret in her past and her family.
Lilah has to find the assassin, deal with her continually conflicted relationship with Kane and hopefully keep everyone she cares about alive.
Lilah is a great main character. Foul mouthed, beautiful and seriously devoted to catching killers. Her romantic interest in Kane can go so many ways and I am looking forward to seeing if the author can work out their differences enough to bring them together or if he remains more of a character who helps Lilah and just has benefits. Lilah’s FBI supervisor and the assassin, Ghost, are both going to make future books very interesting, also.
I definitely recommend this book and series. It is well written and a page turner that just keeps throwing new twists and revelations at the reader. Bring on book #3, please!
I am hooked on this series!
Facts: Murder Girl is book #2 of Lilah Love series by NY Times, and USA Today best-selling author Lisa Renee Jones. It is the continuation of Murder Notes told from the heroine's point of view with a partial mystery solved ending. Genres: Women Sleuths | Romantic Suspense. Tropes: Alpha hero | love triangle
Murder Girl, the second installment of the first Lilah Love series picks up where Murder Notes left behind. It is fast paced and brimming secrets that lead to interesting plot twists, some answers to the previous book and more questions for the ones to follow.
Unapologetic as ever, FBI Special Agent Lilah Love is as fiercely determined to catch the bad guy and no one, not even her family, will stop her. But perhaps Kane Mendez will be able to help her.
While Lilah is piecing together the clues to catch a killer that indicate a connection with her family and a secret she shares with Kane, she’s also conflicted with his involvement in her life because of his absence during the past years and his strong ties with the wrong side of the law. She realized though that her badge and adherence to the law balances them out.
I was drawn by the intrigue, but kept glued to my eReader because of the wonderful job developing Lilah Love’s character. I really like her no nonsense, tough persona which is absolutely necessary in the male dominated world she works in. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Agent Lilah Love is back and still at the beginning any closer to finding out who set up Woods and why they are wanting Kane Mendez to take the fall and more importantly who is killing everyone? Murder Girl starts with Old Man Romano tied up in Kane's basement and then learning he doesn't know much either. I have to admit; I wasn't 100% keen on this particular book as It seemed to jump all over the place and was hard to concentrate and find out what was happening, as it looks like Lilah can't trust anyone not even her blood as she is about to discover that what she has been busy uncovering goes way past her rape and all the way to her mother's and Lucas's father's deaths. We also see that Lilah is continuing to receive notes from whom she calls Junior and at the end of this book, the notes still keep on coming. It looks like we know what will be Lilah's mission in the third novel which since this gets released in July, I will have to wait for until next year. I normally really love murder mysteries, but this particular one fell flat for me. I will, however, read the next one in the series as I have a few unanswered questions that I am hoping Lisa will answer for us with the third Lilah Love book. Murder Girl brings us more Murders, Questions and the introduction to a secret society operating in today's society and one that goes deeper than anyone could ever imagine. Who can you trust when you don't know how deep the society runs? Find out in Book #2 of Agent Lilah Love series by Lisa Renee Jones. Coming to an e-reader near you in July 2018.
Oh, thank god this didn't end in another cliffhanger. I don't think I could have dealt with another abrupt ending like book #1.
So FYI you have to read book #1 "Murder Notes " prior as it is essential reading before starting part two of this romantic suspense. It takes off where the first book ended.
Its not like everything is tied up in a nice pretty parcel at the end of this book but its more like these two books are the pilot and starting point for a new series featuring my new favorite: crude, rude, anti-heroine, FBI agent and profiler, the fabulous Lilah Love.
This book proved to be as fast paced as the first book and the way it is written also highlights more detail of our heroines character through her involved thought processes.
Lilah Love is a woman who lives so much in her own head that through this personal narrative we not only get to see how Lilah works so hard to solve her cases but who she is deep inside. I must admit that I did really enjoy that back and forth narrative as she works to solve the murder puzzle in her head.
But more especially I loved the fact that she is a total, no nonsense, make no apologies sort of gal and she doesn't believe in taking crap from anyone.
It is hard to reveal very much about this story without giving away too many important plot details, so I am just not going to say anything!!!
We have great secondary characters here and some interesting family dynamics . I also found it fascinating how the two significant men in Lilah's life are such different types (Rich and Kane) and why she is drawn to both of them for those different reasons.
Altogether a very different style from any of the previous books that I have read by Lisa Renee Jones but I really enjoyed this romantic suspense with its strong heroine and I will be looking out for future releases in this series.
I really liked the first book, but this one was not as good.
I'll start with what I liked - Lilah is still badass, and for some reason, I really like her. Her and Kane's banter was funny, sexy, it was done just right.
However, I don't think the author knows what profiling is or "inhabiting a killer’s mind", as it's presented in the blurb. We saw none of that!
What we did witness was a lot of talking, going in circles, and Lilah's unhealthy eating habits. By the end, you realize nothing particularly interesting or big happened.
And I was very frustrated by the ending. You are left with more questions than answers.
And didn't like where the author went with the reveal .
In the end, despite the fact that I liked book #1, I wouldn't recommend this. You will get not many answers, and it's just not worth it.
Murder Girl by Lisa Renee Jones is book Two in the Lilah Love series. This book is not a standalone book, so you do have to read the previous book 'Murder Notes' first to fully enjoy this book. Lilah is still on the pursuit of a killer and getting the answers she need. There is a underline romance for Lilah but for I felt is was more of a mystery/suspense story. This whole series so far are books that you can't put down and you just want more....which will lead us to book three in the series. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Oh man! This go round Lisa Renee Jones just solidified that she definitely knows how to do romantic suspense! I fell so far into this story that I lost most of my day to the ins and outs that Lilah Love was weeding through as she tries to solve her case. It was a day well spent.
Lilah’s investigation takes her to a place I never imagined. This story goes DEEP into some serious mystery that I won’t spoil. Even as she’s suspecting everyone around her, I was right there as well experiencing a journey of suspense I won’t soon forget. I totally love Lilah’s no nonsense F-you attitude which is something I don’t usually enjoy. But Lilah, geez, she’s just so freaking determined to get to the end of the threads that just keep unraveling and she’s tough enough to do it on her own. I respected the heck out of her!
Kane is still a bit on the backburner through the first half of the book but when things start speeding up, he’s there to give her the support that only he can offer. With his actions and words we are given some insight into how he thinks and what he feels. At one point when they are talking about what happened in the past, I realized that this man would do anything for her. Even more than what he had done that one fateful night years ago. Gah! I love a hero like that.
This picks up exactly where Murder Notes stops so you will certainly need to read book one. However, Ms. Jones does include a summary of Notes to help refresh your memory and I was so thankful for the reminders of some of the little tidbits I had forgotten. More authors should utilize this tactic when delving into an ongoing saga.
This isn’t necessarily fast paced but it never bogged down and I never once felt the urge to skim. I consumed every word and when I hit the end I immediately needed the rest of the story. And now to hurry up and wait! Sigh.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Montlake Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 some things resolved; quite a few others not yet stars
This is book 2 in the series featuring Lilah Love, FBI agent whose favorite word is the f-bomb and favorite thing to do is whatever she effing wants to at the time. Note that this is not a standalone; it picks up right where book one (Murder Notes) left off, and it ends with some things left open-ended.
To get more information about the story and our h, check out my review of book 1 --> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... I don't want to go into details because it would definitely give things away, but the main mystery (as in who killed the people that lured Lilah back to NY) is resolved at the end of this book. And while it was mostly satisfying, it was a little anti-climactic for me given the build-up. BUT since there are more pieces in play, and Lilah is now aware of something key that she did not know about to this point, I feel like the story is moving in a very interesting direction. So I am onto the next!
Plot --- 3.5/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level* --- 2.5/5
Violence --- not overly graphic but crime scenes and attack flashbacks
Language --- Lilah's fave word is the f-bomb
POV --- 1st (Lilah's)
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
FBI Special Agent Lilah Love is back home in the Hamptons, New York following up on a case that is connected to a case she was working on in California. To say Lilah isn't happy to be home would be an understatement but there is one silver lining, Kane. YUMMY! Kane's family is....how shall we say???? ummmm, not clean...yeah that's a good term for it since Lilah's family is supposed to be squeaky clean with them either being in law enforcement or politics. OK stop laughing, we all know there are dirty people every where but her family has always been against their being together but they are like the yin and yang, opposites attract and all that, but there is so much more to them. I really hope they get their HEA at the end of it all.
Whoa Dang! I want more Lilah Love!! We finally have answers! But not all of the answers, in fact, we leave Murder Girl with a few more unanswered questions than we started with, but the anticipation for those answers is so sweet!
Murder Girl picks up right where we left of from Murder Notes, and if you read it, you know that was quite the doozy! The plot twists and trying to figure out who the good guys actually are is intense to say the least. There are several characters that if they are later revealed as bad guys I will be DEVASTATED!
Kane, Lilah's ex and possibly the head of a cartel, depending on who you talk to is one intense man who had is BAD for Lilah. He would quite possibly do anything for her. Speaking of Lilah, I have to admit. She can really work my nerves from time to time. She tries to act hard and jaded, but really she isn't as hard as she would like to be and it shows occasionally.
There are multiple people that we are left to assume things about and I question rather my assumptions about them are even close to accurate. The ending of Murder Girl blew my mind and I can't wait to learn more about everything going on in and around Lilah Love's life.
This review has been soo choppy and I'm sorry, but it's almost impossible to tell you about this book without spoilers. Just know that you are in for a wild ride filled with desperation to find a killer, you will laugh, you will want to be sick at times and you still aren't sure who exactly you can trust.
Murder Girl is the perfect read for anyone who is seeking love and murder, it's romantic suspense GOLD.
Murder Girl was a little harder to get into than the first book. The Story seemed to jump around unable to find a focus on one part of the story. The main mystery was very similar to the one in the first book because of the lack of focus by the author this reader started to flip pages homing for the letters that Lilah had been receiving would find a conclusion. Instead the longer bigger mystery is a cliff hanger while the main mystery comes to an end with a nice little bow.
Murder Girl lacks focus, the story seems to drag and the author lost her drive for this story.
Murder Girl, the continuation of Lisa Renee Jones’ Lilah Love series is just as captivating and intense as Murder Notes because the closer Lilah gets to unraveling the killer’s mind and following the clues of the case, the more twisted and interconnected those involved become, making it almost impossible to identify the truths amidst the lies and the guilty amidst the innocent and forcing Lilah to take extreme steps to solve this case, even if it means fully embracing her dark impulses and giving into once dormant desires for a certain man she can’t seem to stay away from despite the risks and dangers that surround her life due to her career and where this particular case has led her.
I don’t want to give away any part of the plot because it is absolutely necessary to understand and experience every lead…every clue…every discovery as they occur in the story, making readers members of Lilah’s team, which not only keeps readers engaged, but it also provides them with a vested interest because as they hypothesize what the information means and what’s at stake the longer the case remains unsolved, a resolution becomes mandatory, not only in order to prevent the heinous crimes that continue to run rampant but also to protect Lilah from coming anymore undone than she already is at the hands of a madman as well as a past and a present that somehow intertwine.
Because this series is more of a suspense thriller than a romantic suspense, which is established quite well in Murder Notes, the focus of Murder Girl is on the case, its many sides, and the mental effect it has on Lilah Love. BUT, because Lilah’s ex, Kane Mendez, becomes a central figure in the story line, not only in Lilah’s everyday life but also in the case, the romantic aspect of the series becomes more prominent, which, in some ways, seemed a bit too predictable…maybe even unnecessary due to the forced change in focus, but I also understand why Lisa Renee Jones added those scenes into the story. Perhaps I’m too absorbed with and too involved in the ins and outs of the profiling case that I didn’t want to switch gears, but for those readers who have been waiting for Lilah and Kane to act on those feelings that are so clearly below the surface, they’ll be happy with the developments in book 2.
There’s still so much to figure out when Murder Girl ends and with the betrayals that have occurred and the lives that are still at risk, I can’t even begin to predict where Lisa Renee Jones will lead Lilah Love and all those involved with this case, which means that I will be anxiously waiting for the next book in the series!
The master of Romantic Suspense, Lisa Renee Jones just keeps building a spider web with words that keeps you trapped with no way to get out until all is revealed. And, the sad part is, you don't want to be released until you know it all.
Murder Girl, the Lilah Love series is truly a work of art. Just when you think you may have things figured out, there's another twist that has you shaking your head. Liliah and Kane are truly explosive both in and out of bed. Lilah won't admit that she loves or needs him and, I think, it's because she feels that it will weaken her, that it will take away part of who she is. But, as proved in Murder Girl, they are stronger together. Giving up her badge was something that she never thought she would do. She tried and failed and, thinking that the case was solved, the murderer is dead, she gets another surprise. She may have closed the case but the mystery continues and you are drawn back into the story hoping that you could find your way out of the web that has been masterfully weaved.
If you truly enjoy a good mystery with some hot sex thrown in, you will absolutely love The Lilah Love series. I love how Lisa Renee Jones just builds on her characters, shows us all the many sides of them. She introduces other characters into the story that only enhances who we have already met. This story just flows off of the pages, makes you think and just has you looking forward to where everything is leading. There is no putting it down once you pick it up. You will fall in love with the harsh, brash Lilah. You will wonder just how much Kane is involved in his father's business. You will be waiting for the next book to come out just to see where this awesome writer is going to take us next.
Murder Girl starts off exactly where Murder Notes ended and Lisa gives a quick review of what happened in Murder Notes just to bring us quickly up to speed in case anything was forgotten.
What I love about this series is the suspense and mystery of things and Lilah (I really want inside her head!). Without giving much away in lines of the plot, I will try to be brief which will most likely keep this review very vague in terms of what to expect.
There are some characters in this book that add to the suspense of everything playing out but the biggest one is obviously Kane. Kane is the only one Lilah feels she can trust but I felt their interactions had a lot of build up in the romance portion with a huge letdown. As I said, my biggest love for this book is the suspense, so I am not looking for a lot of romance. But when you keep hinting at, I am expecting something at some point.
Overall, Lisa delivers another amazing novel in this series. She answers some things, but still leaves us with more unanswered questions. I am curious to see where Lisa takes this now that we've been introduced to a secret society.....
