As a lover of the written word and an overprotective much too involved mother not to mention a fan of the sups world, the title Vampires Rule caught my attention when my 11 year old wanted to read it. We just couldn’t wait to sink our teeth into this one (pun poorly intended). I try not to judge books by their covers (my daughter however, does), but I did find the cross on the VR cover to be eye-catching and it left many question and I had to dive in too see where it would lead.

Once purchased, the fight ensued between my daughter and I as too who would have VR on their kindle first. Ha! I won, due to the fact I review books for a web-site; thanks for that HC, (I owe you another). In spite of this, I was also reviewing five other books at the time, so she took the opportunity to swipe the book from me. Thus began the great debate VR adult v/s child.

As the debate raged on it was obvious we had different options regarding the originality of the story line. Yes, I can see how to younger readers the story may seem original, but to the older reader or adults, not so much. It’s easy to feel out the subtle whispers of books and shows the author has enjoyed in his past. Whether he happen to occasionally read popular books such as Swoon, Vampire Academy, and others too many too name; or catch episodes of television shows such as Buffy, Angel, Supernatural and Dead Zone, there influences are dominate throughout.

We did manage to agree on a few things. First it was obvious the author had intentions on a series by splitting the novel up into two books before the big climax. (More $$money that way I suppose.) As readers we vote big fight climax then leave us hanging on another story line. Second, it fell somewhat flat. The characters seemed forced and considerably unrealistic. Third, not that I am perfect; (avid user of ABC spell/grammar check and benchmark and geese…do I need it!) I found several errors in spelling and plot changes.

No one is perfect least of all me; though I did enjoy the read and the debate with my daughter’s. I would suggest it for the Jr. High/ Middle School girls as my eighteen year old was just not that into it saying, “It’s poorly written, just right for the Bieber Fever kids.”

This is the first self-published book I've ever read and I can't say I regret it. K.C. Blake has a great story here. Unfortunately, the book could've of used one or two more edits. Actually, my only qualm with the book is the spelling and grammatical errors in it. They weren't so awful that they jerked you out of the book though, not for me at least. It's really sad she couldn't find a publisher for this book because I bet it would really popular if she'd been able to get one. On to the review....

I really loved Vampires Rule's story. It was different and fresh to me. I'm somewhat hesitant to give the book four stars but really, the biggest reason why it's getting four stars is because the story was so entertaining. The characters were wonderful and, ironically, my favorite character was Jersey Clifford (the bad guy). I liked how he was refined and calculating. If not for the wonderfully entertaining story and awesome characters, I'd give the book three stars. Of course, that's because of the errors in it otherwise it'd get four stars easy.

I'm not a big fan of vampire books. But I really enjoyed reading this book. Despite all its imperfections, it pulled me right into the story. I stayed up until almost eleven p.m. the day I started this book and, by the time I was forced to put it away, I was less than thirty pages from the end. I would've finished it the same day but I was reading it on the computer so I couldn't. K. C. Blake definitely has talent here. One or two more edits and this book would have been flawlessly executed.

I just have to say that the possibilities and the real deal with this book are two very separate things. In fact, I think they are charged with the types of electricity that makes them get the hell away from one another, and they have absolutely no point of contact.

A vampire turned human is every writer's dream come true. The whole beginning of the story was truly enchanting - he likes a girl who's tough and beautiful, he has friends among the undead, he wakes up mortal (and he wanted to be mortal ever since he was turned a vampire 10 years ago), his brother wants to kill him, the father of his girlfriend wants to kill him, he has a friend/nemesis that he has to kill but doesn't know if he can or can't... Whew, that a lot of stuff to happen to a guy. And if it was tackled with enough writing experience, talent and imagination, I believe it would have been a really, really, and I mean really, great story.

But what happened is that they're kids. Mainly Jack and Silver. He's supposed to be a 17-year-old boy (well, given that he was a vampire for 10 years, 27-year-old) who is intelligent and who likes to think before he acts. She's supposed to be a girl with the power to suck out souls and who goes behind her parent's wishes and catches bad guys all for herself. Together they're supposed to be the most awesome couple ever, BUT - they're just the opposite.

Their conversations remind me of 10-year-old who have no idea what they're saying, their love reminds me of something that goes along the line "oh-we're-meant-to-be-together-so-we-really-really-love-each-other-and-hold-hands-once-in-a-while", and their actions I would describe as most incompetent and stupidly reasoned ones, because they act as children all of the time.

And not just them, everyone around them also. The bad guy would even make Voldemort laugh at its absurdity, and the people who are supposed to be reasonable around them aren't. So no, I didn't like this book much, and I wouldn't recommend it for read, just that you read the summary and imagine what a great book this could be. Alas, I lost that dream when I glanced inside the covers.

I was a little surprised to find that this book is Young Adult but that’s only because I didn’t read the description before reading the book. It being YA is not a bad thing; it just caught me off guard.

This was not an ‘edge of your seat’ type of book for me but it did keep a steady pace and had some interesting and unique (at least unique for me) twists.

I liked that both of the main characters were able to defend themselves and didn’t constantly have to depend on others. They have their vulnerable moments but overall they were strong and determined.

Wraiths were new to me and although they didn’t play a huge part in the book, it was easy to visualize them as ghostly, wispy beings with mouths full of sharp pointy teeth. In my mind I pictured something like the cover of 99 Coffins by David Wellington. Creepy...I like it!

Another interesting idea is to be ‘transported’ into someone’s memory by touching that person or an object. Although I don’t think this is a completely new concept I think it is well done in Vampires Rule.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Rules Series (Werewolves Rule) when it’s released.

They don’t call him Jackpot for nothing…

To me, Jack is like a cat. He has got way more than one life. As a teenager he is attacked by a blood thirsty werewolf and is saved by a vampire. Fast forward ten years and he has finally come to accept his fate as a vamp (although he isn’t truly happy), and he has made friends who have become family.

But then one night everything changes.

He is attacked by another werewolf. Except something strange happens…he doesn’t die…even though he probably should have. Instead he’s turned mortal once more.

Enthralled by his new chance at life, Jack wants nothing but to be normal. To have the life he wished for as a vampire. But with Jackpot normal isn’t in the cards. He meets Silver, a hunter who is as strong as she is beautiful, and she tells him that he has a destiny to fulfill. If that wasn’t enough for one guy to hear she also tells him that everything paranormal wants him dead.

So what’s a used-to-be vampire, now a fragile human, supposed to do to protect himself? Hide behind the girl he loves? Nope. (That would just be wimpy) He gets new powers. That’s right and they are pretty surprising.

So, now, Jack not only has to figure out how to live in a body that isn’t exactly familiar, but he has to do it while figuring out his destiny and staying alive.

K.C. Blake has a good thing going here. The characters in this book were all likable and the plot is very interesting. I really liked the mix of characters all thrown together in one plot. And all those characters made sense; they had a place in the story. There were werewolves (yes, my personal fave), vampires, hunters, wraiths, and even some mention of a faerie named Lovely.

I think the character that I enjoyed most in this book was Jack. I thought that his character was a clever twist on the same old vampire story. This is the first book that I have read that a vampire turns mortal once again. He was vulnerable, yet strong and young but very old. My favorite parts of the book were when Jack described the world the way he saw it through his own eyes. I mean, really, when else does a person get to hear what life is like as a vampire and then as a mortal? Then he begins to develop powers…powers that when combined together have the makings for one bad boy.

I also really like Jersey (yup, you guessed it…the werewolf). I liked the juxtaposition in this character. He was ruthless, yet he was a gentleman. He would rip off your head, but quote Robert Frost while doing it. And he liked to wear red sneakers. He had a magnetic personality that drew a person in and invited them to stay. Just scratching the surface of Jersey, I could tell that there was a lot of emotion and depth to be had.

Silver was the hunter (with a pretty awesome name!), and a very strong character. She could be dying inside but she would never show that to the world. In some ways, that made her more vulnerable than the rest to me. This was a girl who had been groomed her entire life to fulfill a destiny, she was taught that she had a responsibility and a duty to those around her. At the same time her parents tried to protect her – which only made it harder to do what she was destined to do. She didn’t have time to be a girl and have feelings of her own. But she did. Quietly, internally…and when she met Jack her feeling became too strong to contain.

I must say that the one thing that this book lacked was time. The book is 216 pages and to me it could have been longer. I would have loved the time to really get to know the characters – and for the plot to have developed even further. If I was able to pick up all of the above from the story then imagine how much more the reader could have connected to the story with even further characterization. I would loved to have seen more development between Jack and his brother and more development of Jack himself. I was so interested in his transitions and how he must feel in his body and I think that getting into that more would make him an even better character. I felt the same about Jersey, who was centuries old and seen so much throughout his life. It would have been fabulous backstory on him to know how he got to be the way he is today.

K.C. Blake is a very good writer who weaves a story well. I would recommend picking up a copy of this book for a quick, entertaining summer read. Keep in mind that Werewolves Rule, the second book in this series, will be along soon. Which means there is more to the story and that makes this reviewer one happy girl.

*Warning: possible spoilers ahead.*

This book is a quick and easy read at 260 pages in the ebook format. The story follows Jack, a ten year old vampire that was killed at the age of seventeen along with his parents, leaving only his younger brother Billy behind. Every year Jack returns to his childhood home for a trip down memory lane, only this year the visit goes horribly wrong. After almost being caught in the house by his brother, now a fully grown twenty five year old, Jack escapes and visits his own grave at the cemetery. There he encounters a fascinating teenage girl named Silver Rein. She has the ability to suck the soul out of werewolves, and she’s been dreaming about Jack for years. According to Silver, Jack is destined to help her save the world. How can a vampire and a human girl accomplish that? Well, Jack is attacked by a werewolf (again) and this time the scratch of the werewolf turns him from vampire to human. It’s a rare phenomenon and one that Jack doesn’t completely understand. Overjoyed with his second chance at humanity, Jack throws himself into being a normal teenager. He moves back home with his brother, who has known all along that he was a vampire instead of truly dead, and he also returns to high school as a student. Being normal doesn’t seem to be possible for Jack as his vampire powers begin to return and he discovers the school is becoming riddles with werewolves. Silver is so sure of her destiny with Jack because of a diary left to her family and passed down for thousands of years. The diary belonged to a woman named Lovely who was banished from her own planet to live out her life on Earth. Lovely was the creator of the very first vampire, and the very first werewolf. She’s foretold of a war that will be coming, and how Silver and Jack will only be able to defeat the head werewolf together. Does that mean there’s no other choice?

This story felt very rushed, fairly predictable with the big plot points (ie: who the head werewolf is), and there were quite a few distracting editing errors. For example: Silver is referred to as Starr midway through the book, which must have been the author’s first choice for the heroine’s name. It was distracting, but not completely disasterous. There was a very “Dirty Dancing” exchange between Silver’s disapproving father and our hero Jack that contained the “When I’m wrong I say I’m wrong.” short conversation almost verbatim. This was also distracting, and I felt it could’ve easily been avoided. There are alot of similarities between current published books and this one, which considering the genre isn’t that uncommon. The battle between vampires and werewolves with a human heroine thrown in to the mix has been extensively written.

I do believe she tried to make the story fresh by introducing wraiths and angels into the story, but much of the how or why of their existence was left untold making it hard to care about them. I do realize that this is book one in the series, and perhaps in the future books the characters and the story both will be more fleshed out so that the reader can become invested in what happens to them. I feel there is a lot of potential there, but the reader needs to know more about the backstory to understand why Silver is so determined to follow out the destiny laid out in Lovely’s diary. And why did Lovely create the first vampire and first werewolf if she could also foresee that it would eventually bring war? What happened to Lovely?

All in all I would give this book 2.5 out of 5 Fangs. I just feel the reader was expected to just know too much about things that were left unsaid.

This is a promising beginning to a new series. There was a lot of potential in the pages of this book. Some things worked really well, and a few things needed a little polishing. But, it was a pretty enjoyable read, and I will be interested in continuing this series in the future. There is an interesting little twist in this book when compared to other vampire genre books that I have read. Jack begins the book as a vampire, but he quickly turns back into a human after a werewolf attack. I thought that there was a lot of potential in this story line. It was dealt with to a point, but I was curious to hear even more about the struggles that Jack had with his newly returned humanity. I especially liked reading about his inner fight between his joy at some of the rediscovered joys of humanity like daylight and eating food and his longing to have some of the perks of his life as a vampire. One part of the book that really needed to be developed more fully was the relationship between Jack and his vampire friends. His new humanity throws a huge wrench in their relationships, and these struggles are briefly touched on, but they are never really explored to my satisfaction. The vampires just sort of pop in once in awhile, cause some havoc, and then disappear for a huge chunk of the book. Some of their actions are really inexcusable, and yet Jack seems to just brush them off and never confront anyone about it. Cowboy and Summer do a couple of horrible things that in my opinion demand some sort of confrontation or retaliation. Yet, in this book at least, there is nothing.

The main conflict in this book is the fight between Jack, Silver, and the head werewolf. I also felt as if this fight had a lot of potential. There is the issue of Jack and Silver meeting their destiny (or is it?). Jack forges an interesting relationship with the head werewolf, and that ultimately interferes with his ability to do his supposed predestined duty and kill the guy. There is a pretty well-written villain in this book. He is charming, smart, and layered. He doesn't come across as totally evil. He has many sides to his personality. He is also full blown crazy, and that's pretty interesting to read. And, as an added bonus, this character made me want to pick up my books of classic poetry and read them again. I wish there had been more of him in this book.

Also, there is the interesting relationship between Jack and his younger brother who aged while Jack was a vampire so is now the older brother. Then there is the relationship between Jack and Silver. All of these plot lines were interesting, but I never felt satisfied that any of them were really developed as much as they could have been. I really think that this was just a result of this being a first novel, and I thought that the writing was good enough throughout the book that it will only get more fine tuned the more that Blake continues to write. She has created a very interesting world in this book, and I am sure that further books in this series will only improve. This is a series that keeps many of the societal rules that we come to expect in the werewolf and vampire world, but she adds some very interesting twists that make this novel fresh and original. There were some new supernatural creatures that were sympathetic and terrifying at the same time, and that takes some talent. I do recommend this book. It is a self-published book, so it is an affordable read, but more importantly, it is an enjoyable read as well.

3.5 stars for this effort.

In this story, we are introduced to a young man named Jack Creed. Ten years ago, werewolves viciously attacked his family, but a vampire gave him new life. Jack seemed to miss his old life, so he would drop by once a year to his home where his brother, the sole survivor of the attack, still lives. He wouldn’t make his presence known, but he would just reminisce about his old life.

During one of his visits, Jack comes upon a werewolf attacking a young lady. Unbeknownst to him, the young lady is a werewolf hunter named Silver Reign, and she was not in any real danger. Jack goes to rescue her, but ends up hurt by the werewolf. Evidently, werewolf scratches and bites are toxic to vampires, so Jack “dies”. What actually happened is the attack gave Jack a new lease on life—he is no longer a vampire, but a human again. This is when the adventures of Jack and Silver begin.

The story unfolds, that Jack and Silver were destined to meet. We also learn their destiny includes leading the fight against an army of werewolves bent on world domination. Finally, we follow along as Jack and Silver fall in love as prophesied.

I really liked the plot and I found it engaging. However, I did not feel the connection between Jack and Silver nor Jack and his brother Billy. I felt more of connection between Jack and Jersey Clifford, the villain. There seemed to be genuine regard between the two, whereas Jack and Silver’s love felt forced, like they have to be together because of Lovely’s diary. In addition, the plot was very predictable and lacked any real suspense. A book has to have something to keep you looking forward, and I was going along to get confirmation.

I am looking forward to the sequel because there were a few questions that weren’t answered in this book. For instance, how did Summer get into Jack’s house? How or why do Vampires rule? How do Vampires fit into Jersey Clifford’s plan? Why were Silver’s parents so hostile, if the relationship was fated anyway? How was the wraith able to come back and save Silver when her soul was released and she shouldn’t be a wraith anymore? I don’t know why but I liked Jersey Clifford and didn’t really see him as the villain. Instead, I saw Lovely as the villainess or the master manipulator.

I would like to give the plot a four but the character development, as well as a lack of depth in the story, warrants a 3.5. I would like readers to keep in mind that this is book 1 and as such, the author is setting up a world and book 2 tends to be better. I did enjoy it though, but hope Book 2 is more developed.

Goodreads Synopsis: They don't call him Jackpot for nothing.

When he got tired of living the vampire life, another werewolf attack freed him, making him human again. Now Jack just wants to live a normal life, but what's normal about a hunter girlfriend, a brother who wants to stake him to be on the safe side, and a head werewolf building an army to rule the world?

Jack gets caught between his old friends and new, hunters and vampires. He wants to stay loyal to both, wants to protect everyone. Unfortunately, both sides are determined to kill the other. In the end, he'll have to make a choice.

My Review: I have to say, this was a fun book to read. I wasn't sure I'd like it from the synopsis, but took a chance anyways. It was fun from the very beginning, although I definitely feel like I missed out on a lot of the book for some reason. The characters had stories that you just heard about, didn't get to experience them with them. Like all of Jack's friends. His transformation. Pretty much his life before was gone, and we didn't get to know his vampire friends, but we got to know about his life after he was a vampire. The story was interesting. It was fresh. I haven't read something like it before, and I'm glad I got to read it. The cover is alright, it's not the most fantastic, but it's good enough, you know? It could definitely use some work, though, I think. It's not very eye catching. The characters in the book were easy to get along with, in my point of view, and the school was just like any other high school. I think Jack felt weird going back to school after ten years of only looking like a teenager, he got to be one again. I just wish I could've gotten to know his vampire friends better. Got to actually know them instead of hear about them. Definitely check this book out if you get the chance. Thanks for reading (':

Jack a.k.a. Jackpot, a 17 year old teenager is attacked by a werewolf leaving him for dead but is saved by a vampire, by transforming him into one. Ten years later, while visiting his graveyard, vampire Jackpot tries to save a beautiful girl from a werewolf, although he knows that even a scratch from the creature means death. Miracles of miracles, Jack instead of dyeing turns into what he always wanted to be … a human, a 'normal' human that can go to school and have a normal life.

He meets Silver, a strong, beautiful, soul-sucker werewolf hunter, and she tells him that he has a destiny to fulfill. If that wasn’t enough for Jackpot to hear she also tells him that everything paranormal wants him dead. So, a normal life, huh? Not a chance when wraiths, vampires, werewolves, fairies, hunters, protective girlfriend’s parents or single minded brothers want to tear you to pieces.

The characters were wonderful; my favorite character was Jersey Clifford (the teacher). I liked how he was refined and calculating, I wish there was more info about him, because he is such an interesting character … maybe in the next book we’ll see more.

What I didn’t like in the book were the warnings like ‘if it’s too dangerous don’t do it’ or ‘ today we’ve done a lot, let’s leave it for tomorrow’, the way some characters were introduced, distance and time related measurements, things seem to be repeated, the plot was a bit too predictable, some grammar and typo errors.

The story line is fresh at least I haven't read a vamp/were book like this. The world is a unique one, has a great background history, I love it when an author questions the stereotypes put on the supernatural and makes up their own rules it makes for a more interesting read if you have a whole new set of rules to play by.

Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good book. The storyline is intriguing and very different in many of the other vampire books out there now. I do have to say that as I was reading it, I kept thinking about Buffy...there was a very faint similarity to it and it was just on my mind. But, truly it is only a minuscule thought.
When I began this novel, I had just finished a series in which one of the main characters was named Jack. Lo and behold, the main character here is Jack. So, I had to make sure I separated the two.
This book has all the elements of paranormal which include vampires, werewolves, a little fairy, mention of angels, wraiths, and I bet more later will be named...but, the book begins with Jack as a vampire and reminiscing about his human life. He then meets a girl named Silver and when he tries to protect her, their destiny becomes entwined and BAM...he is human again. The two are paired in a prophecy that will help bring peace to the world by eliminating the head werewolf. There is a lot of action and great chemistry with the characters. I enjoyed getting to know them and I am eager for the next one.
On one side note, I do feel like there were times some of the story felt rushed, but overall, very pleased.

Not familiar with this book??? Here's a portion of the premise from GoodReads, "Jack has always beat the odds... at least until now. When he was attacked by a werewolf, vampires saved him. When he got tired of living the vampire life, another werewolf attack freed him, making him human again. Now Jack just wants to live a normal life, but what's normal about a hunter girlfriend, a brother who wants to stake him to be on the safe side, and a head werewolf building an army to rule the world?"

Intrigued? You should be. K.C. created not only a different premise/plot from the other ya vamp/wolf worlds but has main characters that you'll love and a story that you'll want to continue. If you're willing to give an up&coming author a chance - make sure you check this one out.

I don't have a Kindel or Nook but I was able to download it from Smashword (hope I have their name right) as a pdf and read it on my computer for $.99. It was worth much more than that...give Jack and his story a chance...you'll be very happy you did.

This book is about two young people destined to be together. Their love sees them through, against great odds. Only together can they face the evil forces who would destroy them both.

From the moment I picked up this book, I didn't want to put it down, and I couldn't wait to get back to reading it when I was forced to put it away. The author is a superb storyteller, who keeps constant tension going between the characters, and who has a wonderful command of writing. She did use a different style in her writing, and some, who were not familar with it, might see it as leaving out comas, etc., but it is a popular style adopted by a lot of authors, of late, including by Patrick Rothfuss, who won the Pen and Quill award. This book has a wonderful flow to it. I believe we wil see a lot of KC Blake.

I received this book through Bee's Knees Reviews. This is definitely a read for any/all Vampire book lovers. I had never really been into the whole "scifi" type books but after reading the Twilight series a few years ago I started becoming interested in other vampire stories as well. This series (Vampires Rule/Werewolves rule) is far from the typical "vampire/werewolve/other" love triangle that most books are based on. With only a few chapters read, Vampires Rule became a definite page-turner for me. I literally read it in about 6 hours! Jack (Vampire turned human) and Silver (Hunter) dominated their little town and after several run ins with the Werewolves, had figured out who they needed to kill. I can't wait to follow Jack and Silver in their "adventures" in Werewolves Rule!

To be succinct, this one did not work out for me. It started off OK, but then at about 15-20 pages in, I lost interest. Perhaps I will revisit in the near future... Oh well, it had "more bark than bite."

Giving this one: 2 stars

***NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS***

Jack Creed has been a reluctant vampire for ten years, turned on the night he was attacked and left for dead by the werewolf who killed his parents, then saved by a group of passing vampires when one took an interest in him as a potential romantic partner. All of that changes when he encounters Silver Reign while visiting his grave and attempts to save her from a werewolf attack. In the misguided attempt to save her Jack is scratched by a werewolf, something fatal to vampires and believes he's going to die. Instead of a quick death at the beginning of the story Jack not only survives but becomes some sort of enhanced mortal with powers of both a werewolf and a vampire, a mortal who's arrival has been prophesied for a very long time. His shared destiny with Silver is to kill the first werewolf, the wolf responsible for creating them all and who's death could save every other werewolf in existence. If they should fail this being will not only destroy all vampires, but the entire human race as well. The story follows his budding relationship with silver, his interactions with his human brother and his vampire family and his path to discovering the first werewolf, a path that leaves him questioning if his destiny is one he wants to fulfill.

Overall this book is a great read that keeps you turning pages. I'll admit I debated between three and four stars on this one. But my copy of the book had some issues that kept skipping me around in pages and turning through blank ones to find words. Considering that I decided I might be being a little harsher on the writing than I should be because I was irritated at the difficulty it was giving me reading it on my ipod. That said I decided to give the writer the benefit of the doubt and go with the higher of the two ratings. The story is fast paced and for the most part well written.

Some of the things I noticed were first the character names, so many of them were a little far-fetched ie Silver Reign, that I found this a little distracting. With names like that it's hard to picture them as realistic people. While I've read other books with odd character names, most of them have reasonable explanations for those names and the odd names are not employed by the majority of the characters in a the book. That isn't the case with this story in my personal opinion. Another thing about the characters is that I don't think the writer gave them enough actual character flaws to be believable. Silver is bright, articulate, a good fighter, beautiful and her list of appealing qualities goes on and on. The same can be said for Jack. However, I can't really mention anything negative about their characters. Yes Jack used to be a vampire, but he only drank animal blood. Characters in a story are supposed to be a fictional reflection of real people. Real people are not perfect, they have at least one physical flaw that drives them nuts every time they look in a mirror. Real people have at least a handful of bad habits, and they have lists of things they don't really like about themselves, things they want to change. While I could see the flaws in all the secondary characters, in the two main characters, the ones you could tell the writer really cared about you didn't really see flaws. Jack and Silver are practically perfect teenage kids. Yes they skipped school, but that was to free the trapped souls of the poor wraiths from the never-ending slavery of the first werewolf. Yes Jack considered returning to being just a vampire, but the vampires are the ones who saved him from death when the werewolves attacked his family and they then became his friends, his family for the last decade. Everything Jack and Silver do that could possibly have a negative connotation behind it has a completely good and justifiable reason to go with it. I feel the main characters need a little bit more grit and more flaws to be real to a reader. No I'm not asking her to take her favorite characters and make them into criminals but for example with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which the writer has obviously watched, Buffy is an a##kicking vampire and demon slayer, however her grades in school suck because she's so busy saving the world she doesn't have time to study. She's not popular because her priorities aren't the same as a normal teenager and it's very clear during that series that despite her calling Buffy clearly resents her life. While Silver does make similar claims in this story they aren't as believable because she doesn't have the actions to go with them and as the old saying goes actions speak louder than words.

Another issue I had with this story is some of the plot points seemed a bit contrived or unoriginal and some of them were predictable. For instance I knew who the first werewolf was the minute Silver mentioned him, I knew he'd already been introduced and I knew exactly what character it was. Silver being the chosen one, and the way it was described seemed like a scene right out of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yeah she's more meant to kill werewolves than anything else, but it almost mirrors the Slayer prophecy. And the having met in dreams, being destined to be together thing just was hard to believe. I was also expecting a little bit more in the ending after having read all that build up throughout the book. I felt cheated to not get the final confrontation in this story especially when the battle we did get didn't have nearly the attention or build enough to satisfy me as a reader with the ending.

That said, it was an interesting story and employed a lot of things I did like. I found it intriguing to keep getting pulled into memories when Jack touched something or someone. I liked character of Jersey Clifford, the way he was both intelligent and insane. He was the kind of character who drew you in, who you wanted to understand. I'd have to have seen more of his interaction with Jack, more back story in to him and everyone else including the prophesy. I liked Lily and Summer but again I don't think they got enough play in the story. I guess the thing I think this story is really missing is the build. When the writer decided she wanted to make this a series, she should have added a little more bulk to the villain she was planning to take out in this section of the story. It needed more than just a few random scenes for a reader to feel vindicated when he's taken out. It's missing the back story I guess, the explanations to make it completely believable. We did get some of that and those portions that we got were extremely intriguing. They had me curious and kept me turning pages to discover more. It is a good story and a thrilling read, but I personally wish the author had given us just a little bit more throughout the story to make it something no reader can dismiss or ignore.

Additionally I'd like to thank the author for offering me the chance to read and review her book by giving me a free review copy.

3.5 stars.. Jack Creed became a vampire on the night his parents were murdered by a werewolf. Psychometry flashbacks from objects give the reader a lot of information without switching POVs.

Cliffhanger ending.

Interesting concept, but I found everyone annoying.

A vampire becomes human again and has to re-assimilate into human society. Not a new storyline, not a new struggle. The twist that makes this story interesting and worth reading further is the "chosen" prophecy and the dire dream of the consequences of that prophecy. Love will make up for all the pains and trouble of re-assimilating, right? Right?!? This is not quite as good as Ramy Vance's "Mortality Bites" series but this book does have its moments. I am going to have to find book 2 and see what happens next.

Alright, so, apparently, I have owned this eBook since 2019 and never actually bothered reading it until now and I am deleting it; and I am definitely sure I got it for free back then, so, lucky me.

This was a waste of my time but, thankfully, I only read a few chapters and not the whole thing. That was enough for me to realize that the writing wasn’t that compelling to me.

My sister told me about this book in 2013 and I purchased it. It's been on my TBR since then - thanks to FB memories on June 8th for the reminder ROFL... I struggled to finish this book. I don't know if it was because it sat on my TBR for so long or if it was because it just didn't hold my attention. By the start and finish dates, you can tell how I struggled LOL.

Very inventive

I found it interesting that the writer used the cure for vampires was the bite of the werewolf. They are immortal/mortal enemies. But it took both to make Jack the powerful force that he became.

An intense, suspenseful read.

I really liked this book. Is he or isn't he a vampire? Hunter's, vampires, wraiths, wolf shifters, magic stones and family dynamics keep you glued to the narrative. Well done!

This book was fun! Yes, it was missing some things, but the idea was original and the situations were unpredictable. That bumped it up a star for me. A great escape!
