Time is a thief they say, and if you’re not careful it’ll slip right past you, taking everything you hold dear in this world with it.
It was the summer of 1972 when I first laid eyes on him.
Cynthia Rose probably got more than she bargained for when she came to my door step asking to write about my story.
Our story.
To everyone else Travis Cole was just the bad boy, but to me he was the keeper of my heart and even as time aged us and miles kept us apart, my heart stayed his.
Forever his.

USA Today Bestselling Author Paige P. Horne lives in the small town of Gray Georgia with her husband. The two enjoy traveling every little chance they get (before Covid) and binge-watching their favorite shows. (Got any recommendations?)
When she isn't creating new characters for her readers to fall in love with, you can find her back porch swinging (not in the Georgia summer though) engrossed in a good book.
Readers have described her stories as captivating and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Paige pens emotional novels about soulmates and broken love.
Her titles include: Close To Falling, Chasing Fireflies, Chasing Ellie, and If I'd Known (based on true events) A four-book Romantic Suspense Series: The Give Me Series and The Bones Trilogy (A Mafia Romance)
If I'd Known is my first read by Paige P. Horne, and she certainly left an impression on me! When I saw this book was based on a true story, I knew I had to read it! I didn't really know what to expect other than that. I'm going to tell you a little bit to give you an idea of what you're in for, but no spoilers from me! Don't worry!
You know how they say curiosity killed the cat? Well, I'm the fucking cat! I was up until 4 in the morning reading this book and balling my eyes out! You guys know I'm not a chick that loves to cry, so I was also cursing myself out for reading it at the same time. I still feel like I need to drink alcohol today to get over it all. I'm not trying to scare you away by any means, but I don't want you to come to me later cursing ME out for your devastation! Lol
This book reminded me a lot of the movie, Fried Green Tomatoes, in that it's told by an older woman to a younger one about events that happened in her life in the past. It gave me the same feel reading it. I could see it translated to film very easily.
Charlotte Harris is approached by a young woman named Cynthia to write a story about the love of her life. Charlotte is reluctant, but eventually she gives in. Charlotte's friend, Maggie, is the person who told Cynthia about Charlotte to begin with, and she is present throughout the story. In fact, the friendship that develops between the three women and the experience they have together is a large part of the plot, too.
“How little did I know, that it would not only be the most memorable summer I've ever had, but it would be the summer that changed my life forever.”
Charlotte's story begins when she meets her love, Travis Cole, in the summer of 1972 when she was just 16 years old. From the moment Charlotte looked at Travis, she only had eyes for him. He felt the same, and soon, they couldn't stand to be away from each other. Their love was intense, passionate, and wild; the way young love tends to be.
“Young love is like a raging fire that can't be tamed. It's addictive and borderline obsessive. Satisfying in every way, yet never getting enough. I'm the flames, and he's the fuel keeping me burning."
There is just one problem. Travis is a "bad boy," and Charlotte's mama refuses to let her date him. They sneak around and even run away to be together. That's about as far as I can go without spoiling anything. The details of it all are revealed to us in flashbacks throughout the story.
“After all this time, I still ask why? Why me? Why us?”
You know something tragic is going to happen by the way the book begins. That's not a spoiler. I thought I prepared myself for it as much as I could, but it was not enough! My heart shattered. Knowing this story is based on true events and reading what the author wrote at the end about her role in it broke my heart even more. I think it affected me the way it did, because an aspect of it reminded me of someone in my own life, and I cried for them, too. I usually don't even read books with that certain thing in it, because it hits too close to home. I'm just trying to write this review without having another breakdown, so I'm going to end it here.
If I'd Known is heartwarming and gut-wrenching all at once. It's both tragic and beautiful. It's a story that needed to be told. Paige, bravo to you for recognizing that. I'm sure you made "Charlotte and Travis" proud.
If you're looking for an emotional story filled with an epic romance, female friendship, laughter, and tears, this one's for you!
ARC generously provided by the author for an honest review.
IF I’D KNOWN: Is a full length, contemporary romance novel by new to me author Paige P. Horne. In this we meet ‘Charlotte Harris and Travis Cole' and secondary characters Maggie and Cynthia.
If I'd Known is two stories in one it surrounds the summer of 1972 when Charlotte and Travis met, to the present story which is about three totally different women who become fast friends... Charlotte, Maggie and Cynthia.
A gut wrenching, unique, beautiful, intoxicating, love story
The synopsis is pretty vague you only really know that it’s based on ‘true events’ opening up the book and reading ‘The Prologue’ it hints at an emotional read up ahead.
I always have that feeling of trepidation when it comes to picking up a new authors book, but as soon as I started this I was drawn into the storyline, throw in the words ‘based on factual events’ and I’ll pretty much sign up and all I can say is I am so glad I took a chance on this book!! It is different to anything I would typically read.
This starts off a bit unusual, Charlotte has been asked to give an interview by an aspiring young journalist Cynthia Rose about her great love in the summer of 1972, a summer that changed Charlotte's life forever, living with her grandmother in a trailer her cousin has come to visit and a mate of his has tagged along and this was how she met the boy that would have such a huge astounding impact on her life.
Young love is like a raging fire that can't be tamed. It's addictive and borderline obsessive. Satisfying in every way, yet never getting enough. I'm the flames, and he's the fuel keeping me burning. We are perfect.
Her mama has heard the rumours surrounding this boy but the magnetic pull he has on her is undeniable. She knows he’s a bad boy with his drinking and smoking of weed but she looks beyond all that.
Secret meetings, a whirlwind love that couldn't be denied. The free spirited bad boy that stole her heart.
But what happens if you know your mama won't ever accept this boy and tries to keep you apart?
Everything has an expiration date. Eventually, we all fall.
So here I am sitting here after finishing this book and the tears are pouring down my face, I didn’t know what to expect going into this book, I also didn’t think I’d be crying like I am too. I can’t even say what I loved the most about this book because I read it in one go, once I started seconds, minutes, hours ceased to exist I couldn’t, didn’t want to put this down, and I think that was the best way to read this, to stay in the moment, to feel everything this story made me feel, I giggled, I cried and I loved.
it was the Summer of 1972.... And Charlotte was hit by the lightening, straight to her heart and changed her life completely. "God.....that summer was the day my life changed forever. The day my heart latched onto another's so severely it was as if they'd become one." The second part of the heart belonged to Travis Cole, this lanky golden-eyed boy from Ft.Pearce, FL with crooked, boyish smile and A boy with dark brown hair, chestnut eyes and Holy Dimples. Their static electricity zaps them into an orbit of their own and the world becomes a little bit rosier, a little bit warmer for charlotte. Her heart pounding, cheeks blushing, she is swept away and her summers now are set to revolve around this boy. Their love is all blazing fire in stolen moments away from prying eyes. On the beach, in the alleys, secret rendezvous in the night, in the car. "Young love is like a raging fire that can't be tamed. Its addictive and borderline obsessive. Satisfying in every way, yet never getting enough
How true ! How True ! Charlotte has dreams in her eyes and wants a house with white picket fence, kids, dogs, cats and HEA. Travis wants to "To give you everything you just said!" Swooooooooonthump!!
The story is very Rocky and stumbles upon many roadblocks. They are together, then forced apart, then come again but ripped apart I couldn't place it any trope bucket. Its second chance(s) with heartache and angst soaking EVERY WORD, every page with your tears. we all have moments we regret. Things we look back on and think, why did I do it? If I would have just done this differently and not said that ! Regret is one of those silent killers !!
The story starts in present day, where Charlotte is being interviewed by Peacocky Cynthia who wants the story to win a place in the Paper she works for, in hopes of a permanent job. She's also joined by Charlotte's best friend, the sassy Maggie. Since Cynthia needs pictures and Charlotte needs closure, the three girls- the most unusual trio embarks on a road trip. A Going back in time sorta pilgrimage to pay homage to the good times which held love, which held happy memories. "Cynthia is helping them find their missing happy, in turn they help her find it too"! The writing is amazing, the fact that the story is based on true life events and a true people makes it more distressful. The turmoil, the misery the young hearts go through and a life time of sorrow and suffering made my heart ache so bad. And to think a couple really did go through this ordeal....omg....i can't even !😭 I feel as though someone has stabbed me tight through in the chest. I have trouble finding air, my whole world collapses right before my eyes ⬅️THIS ....omg..THIS😢 Paige has done a wonderful job of narrating it with so much emotion and woe, it'll scratch your heart and make you bawl, non stop. Thank you Julie Haley Vaden for recommending me it.

June 1972
Bright sunshine beams through the window of the singlewide trailer me and my mama share and I blink my eyes open. I squint as I begin to hear her voice calling my name from down the hall and stretch my arms out in front of me.
My door opens and she stands with a dish towel in her hands. “Your cousins here,” she says.
“Really?” I ask excitedly.
“Yes. Get up. I need your help in the kitchen.” I toss the covers off me and dart across my carpet covered room out into the hall. Jesse and I have always been close, he used to live in Georgia too, but now he lives in Florida, where I wish I lived. I haven’t seen him in a year. I open the door and walk out onto the small porch. It’s early morning, but the Georgia air already feels sticky, instantly making my clothes cling to me.
“Hey Jesse!” I call out as I rest my forearms on the rail and lean out.
He looks over the hood of his car and says, “String bean!”
I smile, but roll my eyes at his stupid nickname for me and then someone else catches my attention.
I believe there’s a special compartment in our brain that holds onto precious moments. It saves every detail so you can always go back and replay it again and this moment right here is something I know I’ll never forget. Before he even speaks to me, a feeling that can’t be explained rushes through my chest. My heart skips and my pulse quickens, I forget how hot it is outside, or that my cousin is here, I forget everything. I often wondered how people knew when they met the one and now I no longer have to.
“Charlotte this is Travis,” Jesse says. With mid length, dark brown hair and no shirt on, Travis looks over at me from the water hose. Droplets of water fall from his face and soap covers his hands before he rinses them and then shuts the water off. I watch almost like it’s in slow motion as he pulls a towel out of his back pocket, wipes down his face and dries his hands.
He starts to walk my way and my innocent eyes descend to the small amount of hair on his chest, his happy trial and on down to the black denim jeans that cover his legs. Jesus. They shoot back up as he reaches his hand out and Travis smiles, the boyishness, boyish grin I’ve ever seen. Holy dimples.
“Nice to meet you,” he says. His brown eyes dart down to my body and the left side of his lip quirks. I wonder why, until I remember I’m in baby doll pajamas! I feel heat crawl up my neck and I struggle to not clamp my eyes shut.
“You too.” I hardly breathe as I put my hand in his and static electricity causes both of us to snatch our hands back and he chuckles.
“Sorry,” I say with a bashful smile starring at his beautiful lips as they stay in a perfect crooked position, still grinning at me. Where did this boy come from?
I look back up at his eyes as the sunlight reflects in them, and I see small gold flakes and tiny, tiny wrinkles around the edges from his smile. He looks bemused by me and I feel like I’m caught in a trance until mama shouts, “Charlotte ask Jesse if he wants something to eat!”
“I’m guessing you’re Charlotte,” Travis says as his eye brows raise, and he tilts his head slightly, giving me a look of curiosity.
I smile. You can call me whatever you want. “Ya’ll hungry?” I ask. Please be hungry, I want more time with this boy.
“I could eat.” Travis shrugs. “What about you?” He turns to my cousin who shuts the hood of his car.
“You gonna go put some clothes on first?” Jesse asks me.
I roll my eyes. “Duh.” I look down at Travis again and bite my bottom lip before walking back to the door. I feel his eyes on me and I get chills as it slams behind me after I enter. I head through the living room to the hall. “They’re eating,” I call out before I shut the door to my bedroom and press my back against it. I look to the ceiling and smile. Heat covers my body and when I turn my sight to my mirror, I see that I’m blushing. I should be embarrassed by my appearance, but that’s not what’s got me hot and red and I have a feeling it won’t be the last time Travis Cole does that. I put my face in my hands and shake my head. God, I haven’t even brushed my teeth. I throw off my pj’s and head to the closet.
I take a little too long getting dressed, desperately trying to erase Travis’s first impression of me in night clothes and bed hair. I try on three different outfits and go over my hair with the iron at least five times, making sure there are no waves and almost burning myself in the process. My room is a mess now and I think they’re probably done eating by the time I come out, but oddly as I walk in the kitchen they walk in the door and my eyes go to Travis, seeing he has on a white shirt now. He runs both hands through his hair as his eyes land on me and this time there’s no crooked smile, but something else and I can feel it everywhere. Paige P. Horne
For anyone who lost the love of their life to an early passing, reading this book is a must. I lost my husband to cancer and there are parts in this book that I could see myself living through as well. The author did her mother-in-law and the love of her life true reverence in her writing. A young love found, lost and found again to only loose to soon. An absolute excellent read!
You know that moment when you begin to read a book and you feel it’s going to be an ugly cry read, but yet you can’t stop devouring what you’re reading? Your head is pounding because you can’t stop crying and your tears aren’t an obstacle to finish this book? Your heart keeps clenching and you know it’s coming but you are in denial? That was me throughout this book.
If there is one thing that this author can deliver besides angst is tears- not little tears, but ugly sob tears that mess with your heart and mind. It’s those type of stories that stay with you forever and that make you think about it for days.
I loved it even though this story is heartbreaking, but it also made me laugh and contemplate about life. Charlotte and Travis’s journey is realistic, raw and poignant. I won’t go into the plot- just know that you will need your tissues and that this book isn’t for the faint of heart.
I love that there are two stories being told at once. We get the past (based on actual events) and the present with new characters that you can’t help but love too. I know I am being cryptic, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I can’t wait for Paige’s next book!
If I’d Known By Paige P. Horne 5 Summer of 72 Stars!!!
WOW!!! Emotionally gutted right now. That’s how I am feeling after just finishing this story. New to me author, Paige P. Horne wrote a beautiful love story. One that isn’t the typical love story but one that needed to be told.
The summer of 72, is when it all started. Young and falling in love. A love that would span over many many years. How can you stay in love with someone when everyone around you is pushing you apart?
How do you convince people that your heart knows? Its telling you, you are in love… When you are young and respectful though, you listen to your elders.
Even after the years have gone by, your heart still beats for that one person. Unable to move on, unable to forget, unable to live a happy life.
When it finally happens and a promise is made, life should be perfect now. But life has a way of throwing in a curve ball every now and then.
I was sucked into this book from the get go. Loved reading about how things were back in the 70’s and 80’s as that is how I remember life. When you feel totally invested into the love that this story brings you, you are thrown into the tornado. Spinning your emotions round and round until you are emotionally drained and the story is over. It’s not an easy love story to read about but you do feel the love these two had from that very first day they met! Outstanding job Paige P. Horne on bringing to pages the story that deserved to be told to everyone!!!
This book will make you laugh, cry, and have all the feels. Being based on a true story makes it even better! Only some people get to experience a real true love. Charlotte and Travis definitely had that true love. If you are looking for a love story to read this is definitely the book to read.
Oh my goodness! This book had wrecked me. The amount of tears that are coming down are insane. A love like Travis's and Charlotte's cannot be recreated. Hold every moment dear . Regrets can never be an option. Look towards life and family and the people you love. That is what matters most. Life is unfair under these circumstances. This author's writing and story sucked me in and made me feel everything. It makes you realise you cannot dwell over the little things. Hold onto your love and never let go. A love like theirs was truly a gift. And finding friends to share the journey with made all the difference.
Read this book people! It’s based on actual events and had me shaking my fists and crying out loud “why God why?” It’s so heartbreaking and the phrase that kept going through my mind was “time is a thief.”
How my heart breaks for the real Charlotte and Travis. I applaud Paige for writing this story for those people in her life. Without even knowing the story is real, the book still has such an authentic feel. I loved it!
If you are a believer in true love, soul mates, love that lasts over time, read this book.
Reading this book was a true experience for me. It took a few days to let my emotions settle before I could write this review.
It's been a while since a book touched me so much. Paige is a new author to me, but I've added her whole catalog to my tbr list and will most definitely be reading her work again.
Not only is she a talented writer; but she writes smart, sophisticated Southern women! In If I'd Known, you get 3, count them THREE perfect examples. Not perfect because they are perfect people, but perfect because they aren't trite, silly or stereotypical portrayals of Southern women. As a South Carolina native, I am so appreciative of the characters in this book. Knowing that they are based on real people, makes my heart soar.
Now to the feels of this time spanning EPIC love story. If I'd Known does not read like your typical romance story....I read a lot of indie books and contemporary romance. This book is on par with Nicholas Sparks and authors that have soared to the top of all the book charts!
I have what my friends like to call "black heart syndrome", it takes a good bit to make me emotional. Not only did Paige break through those walls with Travis and Charlotte's story, from their first meeting you can feel the chemistry and binds that tie them together. Knowing that their story is someone real in this world's story will put a spin on the words as you read them. You won't be able to stop thinking of the real humans that go through this type of love story. And me personally, I couldn't stop thinking about how if only someone could experience even a quarter of this type of love. How lucky they would be in life.
Again, I'll mention the supporting cast of characters, because they are phenomenal. They are fun, truthful, loving and supportive! Maybe an unlikely match for each other, but a perfect match for the story.
And this line: "I believe there's a special compartment in our brain that holds onto precious moments. It saves every detail so you can always go back and replay it, and this moment right here is something I know I'll never forget."
THAT LINE, you guys!!! It got me. Seriously. Read this book, let it ruminate in your bones and love it forever. And think about the people who lived it and appreciate and thank Ms. Horne for being able to do their story justice!
“My heart knew what it wanted. It had always known…”
I already knew this story would be amazing. I just never expected it to hit home and it hit me real hard.
I was a mess while reading this book, but it was that delightful kind of mess. The story in itself was poetic, beautifully and soulfully written. The friendship that sprung between three women who were completely different from each other was another spectacular thing to add to this book. Each of them bringing with us a story of love and adventure and tragedy and hope.
I was fighting my tears in the last few chapters because I’ve already cried too much. So there’s this huge lump in my throat and a war of emotions waging inside my chest from holding back everything.
This story sits right next to The Notebook for me. Beats every love story I have ever read or watched my entire 30-ish years of existence. I am so thankful this true story was shared for the world to witness. And it's spectacular. I am glad to have met all these amazing characters.
A million stars for Travis and Charlotte. Their love is the kind of love we'd all wish to have in this lifetime.
This was my first read by Paige P. Horne and wow, did it leave an impression! I can easily say this is one of my all-time favorites love stories. It was a beautiful, but yet, tragic and heartbreaking story that left me crying like I have never cried before. What makes this even more of a tearjerker is finding out that it's based on a true story. Make sure you have a box of tissues handy for this one. You will definitely need it.
The story begins in the summer of 1972 where Charlotte Harris meets her other half, Travis Cole. It's pretty much love at first sight for these two. The only problem is that he's a known bad boy, so her mama does not approve.
Will their love survive everything that is designed to tear them apart?
Thank you Paige for writing this story! You're right, it definitely needed to be told. It was both heartwarming & gut-wrenching, but an epic romance filled with lots of laughter and tears. A must read for 2018!
There are not enough stars out there to give this book a proper rating. I was given the honor of an ARC and I honestly would buy this book over and over again. The book is based on a true story which makes it all the more beautiful and tragic. The story is told in past and present and blends both together so well you find yourself unsure if you want to be listening to the narrative of the past or current events. All of the characters feel as if they are someone you know or would like to know. Charlotte especially resonated with me. By the end of the book I want to be her best friend and give her a hug. The only critique I had of the book is that I can’t read it for the first time again. I think this will forever be on my recommendation list as books that moved me. If you don’t read any other book this year, please read this one, but bring tissues. Thank you Paige for writing the story, I am honored to have read it.
It was the summer of 1972 and till this day, I can still remember the way my heart felt the first time I laid eyes on him. Travis Cole was more than just the bad boy from Ft. Pierce Florida. He was my always.
Time is a thief, they say and if you’re not careful it’ll slip right past you, taking everything you hold dear in this world with it. My name is Charlotte Harris and I hold in my heart a timeless tale about true love, loss and everything in between.
*Based on actual events, takes place past and present.
Holy crap! My words can not begin to describe how incredibly written this story was. The writing was flawless and their story was breathtaking. Without giving any spoilers all I will say is this book will take you on an emotional journey that will leave your heart full of so many emotions. I highly recommend this amazing read.
Paige Horne is a new author to me and I will be reading much more from her! This book....WOW...what I kept going back to is the fact that this book is based on a true story; one in which the author was a part of. Although the story format is very similar to "The Notebook" in that the main story takes place back in 1972 when Charlotte and Travis meet, and then fast forwards to the present with Charlotte retelling their love story; as a reader I was much more drawn to their story knowing it was true. It is passionate, heart-breaking, funny, and the author tells the story of true love and true friendship so beautifully. I couldn't decide if I was experiencing The Notebook or The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. The friendship that blossoms between the older generation ladies (Charlotte and her BFF Maggie) and their younger counter-part, Cynthia, unravels so beautifully that I wished I was along for their ride...literally. Although I would have liked to hear more of Cynthia's own love story play out, her role in helping Charlotte accept her past and move forward will have you in tears. Well done Paige Horne!
I'f I'd Known is based on true events and that just makes this book even more amazing. It was a beautiful story about true love. Charlotte and Travis had the type of love and connection that I hope I will get to experience sometime in my life. This book takes you on a journey of emotions and gives you all the feels. I also loved the friendship between Charlotte, Cynthia Rose and Maggie! This is definitely a must read!
This is the first book I have read from Paige and it certainly won’t be the last! I couldn’t put it down! Charlotte and Travis's story was so heartbreaking yet beautiful! It was written really well and I like how it is written in the past and the present. I would highly recommend this book to anyone but would also like to add make sure you have your Kleenex close because you’ll need them! A very well deserved 5 stars!

First things first, I must warn you............you HAVE to read this truly beautiful, tragic, heartbreaking story, but please, try not to read it in public, like I did!!!! It will leave you torn apart and 100% ugly crying. But in saying that, I can't recommend it highly enough. What makes it even more heartbreaking is this story is true, although names have been changed. Mama C, you (and will be) an inspiration to many a reader out there. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you for allowing Paige to tell your story. I for one agree, it is definitely a story that needed to be told.
In the summer of 1972, two teenagers, Charlotte and Travis, fall madly in love. The love they have for each other is what we all read about in our romance novels. It's a love that very few of us ever get to experience. They would do anything to be and stay together. But Charlotte's family has other ideas, that sadly don't involve Travis.
Torn apart, but desperately holding onto the love they share, the rare moments they were get to spend together, are the moments memories are made. Days turn to weeks, weeks to months until finally, Charlotte knows she has to let him go.
Fast forward thirty years, a troubled marriage and a beautiful son, their paths cross again. And while time has changed them, the one thing that hasn't changed is the deep seated love they both still have for one another.
" I think about the first time I saw him and how handsome he was. I think about the way my heart felt as his golden brown eyes sparkled in the summer sunlight. That was one of the best days of my life because it was the day I met him. Today is the worst day of my life because I'll remember it forever as the day I started to let go of the man I love"
When this book turned up on my kindle I wasn't sure what I was in for, but this book pulled at every heart string I have and left me with tears falling from not just the truth, the life and heart break but the amazing words that were written.
The story of Charlotte and Travis was of young love, of a beautiful story of two young people who meet and have that amazing chemistry. Of a couple who were young and in love but had to face many hurtles and face everyday challenges.
'I watch as something insignificant to most takes place before me. A glimpse, so slight, of fire brushes its hello against the horizon, blasting warm colors over the ocean. It holds promises of a new day, a fresh start. We tend to take this for granted, most of us. Thinking that it’s a given right, but it’s a gift.'
This is what love is made of. The love story you would sit and listen to your grandparents tell you. The couple that you fell in love with and faced every challenge they met.
This book is whole heartedly one of the best books I have read.
Thank you paige for writting this beautiful heartfelt tragic love story.
The reviews on this book are pretty great. 99 people reviewed it and 10% of those are my GR friends and they had great things to say about it! I realize that really isn't enough reviews to mean a whole heck of a lot but I had high hopes! So here I am 10 days in(which is sooooooo long for me to still be reading the same book) and I am at 46%. I barely want to pick it up but I keep coming back to the reviews and I am desperate for the heartbreak and the ugly cry - I just don't see it happening. And I need to move on. I am not sure what my deal is but I have no connection!?!?!
This is a tough one to review because for most of the book, I wasn't all that engaged with either the story or the characters. I liked what I read from the blurb and that's why I bought it. A life-long love is always interesting to me and I had high hopes for this one. However, I felt as if something were missing and perhaps it is in the style in which the author wrote it.
We get the past and present as Charlotte Harris tells her story of the man she loved for all of her life, whether he was a part of it or not. Although I don't mind the back and forth from the 1970's to the present, perhaps I'm feeling we didn't didn't get enough of either. I wanted more of how Charlotte and Travis lived as young people in love. More family dynamic since so many didn't approve of their pairing. It seemed to go by too quickly. And then Charlotte's life without him was also a bit rushed. I guess I never felt as invested as I wanted to in their relationship although I did realize how much they loved each other. It just didn't grab me like I had hoped.
I will concede the use of a young reporter who is telling Charlotte's story was quite clever. But holy smokes, saying that women at the age of 60 would be watching Andy Griffith, recording their soaps and wearing sensible shoes really irked me. I'm here to say that is a bit ridiculous. If she were over 70 or even 80 I'd get that but c'mon now. That's just insulting.
Cynthia Rose as the reporter has her own heartbreak to share and she does. But I really wanted the story to focus more on Charlotte and Travis. And less on bestie Maggie and Cynthia.
The last 20 percent or so had me crying and I felt that finally I got the story I was looking for. Sadly it was a case of too little, too late. In the end, this one was kind of all over the place for me and I'm not sure I'd read more from this author.
5** For starters look at the cover its Beautiful. 2nd this is a true story and it is a beautiful story that will have you laughing, crying and and saying OMG I just can't believe. In this book you are taken down memory lane for Charlotte and Travis and yes they have a beautiful love story, but they also have tragedy along with it. Make sure you grab boxes of tissues you will need them. This is a MUST READ FOR 2018!!!!
I received an ARC of this book, since I saw the cover I felt in love. I am a huge fan of second chance love story and this one is an example of why. This story is about how Charlotte and Travis meet and felt in love, I love that is told in past and present. The story was full of emotions and pure love between this couple.
The story start when Cynthia asked Charlotte if she can publish her love story on a local newspaper. Since then they became friends along with Maggie. They form a beautiful relationship which make me want to hang out with them.
This is a great story that made me cry, laugh but most important to appreciate time that goes so fast and people that comes into our lives for some reason.
Thank you Paige P. Horne for this beautiful story.
If I'd Known is a beautiful story of two people who meet, fall in love, but face challenges and obstacles along the way. I felt like I was reading the intimate pages of someones diary. Each chapter revealing another piece of the puzzle. I love how the story line isn't traditionally written from beginning to end. The author takes you on a journey through different periods of time, intricately placing details along the way. You feel transported back in time. The characters in this book are unforgettable. You begin to understanding their journey and the reasons why. Horn wrote with a tender hand. If I'd Known will make you laugh, cry and reflect. You will not forget this story. It stays with you!
Being introduced to author Paige P. Horne has been pure joy. I can't wait to catch up on her other novels. Something tells me she has so much more in store for us. She is definitely one to watch!
This is the first book that I have read by Mrs. Horne! Beautifully written! Once you start this book you will not want to put it down! It will make you laugh and cry! Look forward to reading her other books!
Amazing love story. The story is like watching a movie unfold. Travis and Charlotte each find there one true love at 17. Fate stepped in & separated them for 30 years . After 30 years distance , fate & second chance at love brought them back to one another. You will laugh & cry , as well bring back some memories of your own teenage crush.
