Follows disparate groups of character caught up in the aftermath of several nuclear explosions in cities in Britain, as far apart as London and Aberdeen.
A short, effective book, much like the BBC's Threads, though pre-dating it by several years - it's a shame Williams' novel has fallen into obscurity. The writing, of course, does not have the power to convey the absolute horror, but the author makes a brave stab at creating both likeable and unlikeable characters and placing them under merciless duress. There's a sting in the tail too. If you can find a copy, worth a read.
