Ninja Girl
Seventeen-year-old Snow-Soon Lee kicks ass--literally. She teaches at her family-owned martial arts gym, The Academy, and cares more about training to be the next Bruce Lee than hooking up. Ninja Girl was the most adorable story ever. Seriously, I can't get over how cute it was! I picked this book up because I fell madly in love with Adorkable, this author's first release. And now I've fallen just as hard for her second release, Ninja Girl. So if you adore ya romance that makes you smile, laugh and leaves you feeling oh so happy, then I highly recommend Ninja Girl! And Adorkable too, if you haven't read that one yet.
Now you have to know, I had already fallen for Ash Stryker in Adorkable. So I was over the moon happy to hear that he was going to get his own book! But things have changed since Adorkable ended. Ash had to move to a new school. And this one didn't have a soccer team, soccer's his passion in life fyi. As if that wasn't enough, his father had been receiving threats to get him to drop out of the Senate race. So security guards had been hired to protect them. And down the road, Snow would be one of them.
Snow-Swoon Lee met Ash for the first time at the movie theater, when he was with two of his security guards. The other girls at the theater were making fun of her for being clueless about boys. Snow knew she was inexperienced, but she wanted to show them she wasn't as clueless as they thought she was. So Snow literally dropped in, stole a kiss from Ash, and escaped from his security guards. It was so fierce and brave, I loved it! Her confidence over what she could physically do was amazing and made me so proud of her. It was so easy to like Snow right away.
From that one interaction, leads to more. And after an attack, Snow got hired to guard and protect Ash at school. And thanks to getting to alternate between the two of them, we got to hear how much Ash was interested in Snow. He was determined to kiss her again, but with Snow taking her job seriously it wasn't going to be easy. So I kept wondering how Ash was going to get Snow to cave.
Thankfully Ash was beyond cocky and confident. He knew exactly what he wanted, and that was Snow. And Ash wasn't afraid to let it be known. So his attempts at even just talking with Snow had me cracking up while also sighing at the same time. Ash was seductive while also being hilarious without even trying. And I quickly got caught up in his spell! Granted he made mistakes at times, but I loved that he wasn't perfect. It made me love him and his faults that much more.
Besides Snow and Ash there were so many other wonderful things in the pages. Such as previous characters, since we got to see Sally and Becks *jumps up and down*. Also I adored the side characters. Snow's best friends Min-Hee and Bae Bae had so much depth. And if that wasn't enough, I was shocked to find that I had sweaty palms during some moments. Wheeeeee that was fun!
So yes I definitely recommend Ninja Girl, plus Adorkable if you haven't read that yet! Or if you've read Adorkable and loved Ash then there's a good chance that you'll fall madly in love with this book too! Cookie O'Gorman has officially gone onto my favorite authors list, and I can't wait to read all of her future releases!
P.S. I'm going to throw out a huge random guess that the next book is about Sadie. Fingers crossed.

Such a good book. I love that we get to see what happens to one of Adorkable's coolest characters, Ash. I also love that this is a story about another strong, smart female. I love the diversity aspect of the book. I think the dialog is really fun. Really well done! Yay!

I'm not sure if this is a ya book or a na book. Because the FMC Snow has already finished highschool but she has to go back for a bodyguard job. I loved that Snow is the bodyguard of a politicians son, because she is very good at martial arts and he can't take the families bodyguards to school because of school policy.
I love Cookie's humor and the way she tells her stories. This is the second book I read and I loved both of them very much.
I like that this also a culture clash, as Snow's parents are from Korea and she dates a white amerikan boy. But at the end, all the culture are about family and keeping loved ones safe and that reunites all cultures and you will see it if you drop the blinds.

~ 3 Adorkable Ninja stars~
After Adorkable I just couldn't wait to read more by Cookie. I think that Ninja Girl was adorable and a quite funny story. Usually there's always a guy who saves a girl and this time it's the other way around.
However, this time was the first time ever, that I asked myself if I was just a bit too old for the story.

From the moment I read the title, I knew I had to read this book.
Like who wouldn't want to read about a girl who was amazing at martial arts and was a ninja?
Especially since this was the opposite of most books.
Snow was the bodyguard of Ash and could easily take him down. Every time she'd be fighting someone, I'd be cheering and laughing.
It was also hilarious and sweet seeing Ash trying to win Snow's affection while Snow stubbornly refused to admit that she did like him.
Cookie O'Gorman truly did an amazing job with Ninja Girl. Only I just realized now that there was a book before this I should've read since there were some characters from that book. Whoops.😅

3.5 Stars. This was pretty cute. I liked how Snow was the one doing the saving/protecting, even if I thought hiring a teenage girl to be a bodyguard was a little unbelievable. I liked Snow and Ash and their relationship. I thought the rest of the characters were a little underdeveloped, though. And just like in Adorkable, the best friend character brought the story down a bit. Min-Lee was supportive of Snow for the most part, but I thought her not only staying friends with the mean girl that constantly made fun of Snow, but insisting Snow hang out with her as well was pretty awful friend behavior.

I loved Cookie O' Gorman's Adorkable which Is really an adorkable read and when I heard that she's releasing another adorable book featuring Ash as the main lead, I was very eager to read it. I loved Ash and Snow as much as I loved Becks and Spitz from Adorkable. They are both fun characters and complete opposite to each other but we know opposites always attract. I liked the fun concept of this story where the girl protects the boy and not the other way round. It's kinda refreshing to read and I love kickass female leads. I really can't wait to devour more books from this author.

She teaches at her family's martial arts academy and all her time were spent on training, teaching and talking with her Idol Bruce Lee's poster on her door. When she goes on a girls night out with her best friend Min Hee and her friends they tease about her tomboyishness and her zero sex appeal, she proves them wrong by kissing a stranger in a movie theater and escapes his two bodyguards with the help of her badass skills. Next day, she finds out that the guy she kissed is new in town whose father is running for U.S Senate. Ash isn't happy with the transferring to a new school leaving all his friends behind and he also can't seem to forget the mystery girl that has kissed him. When he sees her again, he decides to never let her go. Snow doesn't understand why someone like Ash is interested in her. When she saves him from two drunk guys, his mom hires her to be his new personal bodyguard because of all the death threats they've been receiving lately. With Ash being her client, Snow tries to keep their relationship as professional as possible but with each time they spend together, she can't deny her attraction towards him.
I loved Snow-Soon Lee! She's a korean native who's totally kick-ass and has a weird obsession with Bruce Lee since she was five. She's brave, strong willed and always wanted to be like Bruce Lee. I enjoyed her character in this book, she's relatable and seemed very realistic. Ash Stryker is fun, sweet, adorable, and totally swoon worthy. I absolutely loved his winks! He's also a swiftie(taylor swift fan) who loves country music and also some Korean boy bands like Big Bang *my favorite band*. It was fun watching him trying his hardest to win her over and I enjoyed his protective instincts towards Snow whenever they are in danger although she's perfectly capable enough to take care of herself. Though the romance felt like a insta-crush, it is definitely a slow burn romance and their relationship develops from friendship to love. I enjoyed every interaction between them and how they connect with each other. I also liked all the secondary characters such as Snow's best friends Min Hee, Bae-Bae, her mother and also Ash's parents and his friend Sadie.
The plot is pretty good and so much fun! Though it was a bit predictable, it was well executed. Besides the fun romance there's also some mystery and action in the plot which I really liked. The twist of the plot is pretty easy to guess but It didn't hinder my enjoyment. I also loved the diversity aspect of this book and being a fan of Korean culture I quite enjoyed reading this book. The pacing is perfect and the story is engaging through out. I liked the writing style of this book, it was fun and captivating. There are also cameo appearances of Becks and Spitz from Adorkable and I'm so glad to meet them again.
Overall, it was fun, cute and entertaining read! I liked every aspect of this book and also the beautiful cover and its cute title. Despite some predictable parts and few flaws, I can't help but love this book.

Yea, Girl power! I hope someday all girls will see themselves like Cookie O'Gorman sees Snow. Snow is who she is and does not compromise! The great thing is Ash is who he is, too. This story is way better than Geek to Chic transformation story. Cookie's characters are strong and uncompromising. Ninja Girl is an empowering story with romance, action, and mystery!

What a fun book! Love the female lead, Snow, and of course the male lead is Ash who was one of my favorites from "Adorkable". This YA has a little bit of mystery and drama that adds a nice touch. I really enjoyed this book.

I am so falling in love with Cookie O'Gorman. I made a mistake to skip this book and read Good girl's guide. I loved this book so much, Snow is a total badass and my perception about Ash The Whip Striker was so changed.

Ash's dad is running for senate and since then they have been getting threats. A well defined team is set for their security. Ash moved from Chariot high to a prep school.
Snow is a skilled ninja but kind of a tomboy thats why she kissed a random guy at a movie theatre when her friends taunted her, but that guy seemed to pop out everywhere she go.
As she helped him get away from some attackers, Ash's mom hired Snow as his bodyguard as she could pass as a student. They both are crushing on eachother.
Ash and Snow gets kidnapped but they manages to escape and catch the bad guys.
I loved the book it was funny, quirky and romantic ❤❤❤

I read Bookworm so you know I just HAD to go and read the story about Bo's parents. I did not regret it. This story was so cute and I love the way he supports her and her badass abilities. I wish I was her for real she's so cool. The banter was 10/10 the friendships were funny and the mom was a slay. Please go and read ninja girl and when you are done go and read Bookworm to see cute cameos by them :)

JUST SO GOOD!! THIS BOOK JUST MADE MY DAY!! The diversity, the sweet romance, the great supportive parents and the best friends ever. I also enjoyed reading the great fight scenes. I just loved this book ok.

Considering how much I love Adorkable I was shocked when I ended up loving this one even more!
I love that Ash got his own story. Snow is a badass and I loved her.
Just as fun and fast as Adorkable. Definitely recommend if you want some light reads than you can read in one sitting.

This book immediately caught my eye when YA Bound Book Tours notified me about the blog tour. So, I signed up, then went on to Amazon and promptly bought the book!
Although I don't usually read contemporary YA fiction, I was willing to try this one because the plot fascinated me from the get-go! And I was DEFINITELY not disappointed! This novel hooked me in right away, and didn't let go until I had devoured it completely! In fact, I'm now wishing it had been just a bit longer, so I could have remained in this fictional world, with these wonderful characters, just a couple more days.....
Snow is such a GREAT character! Although I'm very far from being a martial arts expert (I rarely even go to the gym, lol), I felt and understood her passion for this type of sports activity. Her dedication to being as good as she could possibly be, her admiration for Bruce Lee -- these things made her very likeable to me. I have my passion for books and bookish things. I have my own literary idols, too. So yes, I could relate quite well to Snow!
Aside from her passion for martial arts, Snow is also a very caring person. She has a deep bond with her mother and close friends Min-Hee and Bae, whom she affectionately calls "Bae Bae". Also, she gives all of herself to teaching martial arts to both kids and adults, displaying endless patience with her students.
There's one other quality that, together with all of the above, makes me wish I could be friends with someone like Snow in real life. (Yeah, I know.....I would have to become a teen again. I SO wish I could!!) What is it? Her sense of humor. She's not precisely snarky. In fact, I'd say her brand of humor is a bit self-deprecatory at times. But still, I do like it. And she doesn't always direct it at herself.
Paradoxically enough, I also loved that Snow was a bit insecure. She was far from being one of those people who brag about their accomplishments and/or abilities. She was instead very much down-to-earth.
I really felt for her in some parts of the novel, too, because she gets bullied by a group of "girly girls" who look down on her, due to the fact that she's a tomboy. But tomboys can harbor deep romantic passion ("still waters run deep", right?), and Snow makes this oh-so-evident when she impulsively dashes over to Ash, who is a complete stranger to her, in a movie theater, and steals a kiss from him. A kiss, that, by the way, sends her "up in flames", according to the story.
And now for Ash! What does this guy who gets a female bodyguard have going for himself? Well, first of all, he's SUPER COOL. He's not at all turned off by the fact that Snow can easily flip him over her head in two seconds flat, whenever she chooses. He's confident in himself, to the point that he doesn't need to "feel superior" to the female species. Of course, he's a hottie, but he doesn't act like one. No male braggadocio for him! (This makes him very compatible with Snow, since she doesn't brag about her abilities, either.) Ash can see through Snow's brash exterior to the deeply romantic young woman beneath. He knows she's the real thing. He knows she's not into games. With Snow, "what you see is what you get". I know that guys in particular want to meet girls who are FOR REAL, who are not into manipulation or head trips. The same thing goes for girls, though. The fact of the matter is, PEOPLE who are genuine, who don't have a chip on their shoulders, who are not out "to score", are simply very appealing. And that's our heroes here -- Ash and Snow. No ax to grind. No "belt" to put notches on. These are just two VERY human, VERY REAL people, okay? And the fact that they get together is just WONDERFUL! This makes me jump for joy! Yeah, I know....a GIF is really called for here.... I'm not into those, unfortunately, but, if I were, I'd get the FUNNIEST, most ENTHUSIASTIC GIF I could possibly find, because Ash and Snow together just make me insanely.....HAPPY. And that's the honest truth, folks! I really and truly SHIP these two!!
Now, as for the plot and character development..... I did think these were a bit weak. I was able to identify the bad guy pretty early on. And I did want more background information on Mrs. Lee, Snow's mom, as well as on Ash's family. I also wanted to know more about Min-hee and Bae, and Koi, too. Heck, I want this novel to CONTINUE!!!! I want a whole FREAKING series here!! Yeah!!!!
I did wondere if a guy like Ash really does exist. But then, there MUST be real-life guys out there who do not feel threatened by strong women. AND who are actually attracted to them, too!
Also, would a parent actually WANT his/her son to have a female bodyguard? In that regard, I wasn't so sure whether this was a realistic take on our current gender roles debate. Still, it gave me a very hopeful feeling about this debate.
The secondary characters are part of this novel's delight. I GREATLY enjoyed them all! I especially liked Min-hee, Snow's best friend. She was always supportive of Snow, and had her best interests at heart. I also liked Bae, who was truly like a big brother to Snow. Furthermore, his stony exterior hid a real softie beneath. His attitude toward both Min-hee and Snow was always sweet, although a bit too protective for Snow's liking. Still, such an attitude shows that a guy REALLY cares. In fact, Ash himself frequently exhibited this type of attitude toward Snow. Not that he underestimated her in any way, though. Still, he cared enough about her that he just didn't want her to be hurt, whether emotionally or physically. And this is the BEST type of guy to have in a romantic relationship!
Adding to the more positive side, I LOVED the pacing of the novel. The action was very believable, although not exactly non-stop. What really kept the novel going, though, was the great dialogues between the characters. These were very witty and funny! They were also the perfect way for the reader to get to know the various characters.
I sure hope the author reads this highly enthusiastic review, because I want her to know just how much I enjoyed this story, these characters, this beautiful, REAL love story in which two people go beyond stereotypes and fall in love with what's truly GENUINE about each other! We need MORE such love stories!!
I also hope the author decides to expand this book into a series, because I want to know MORE about ALl of these WONDERFUL people, and anyone else O'Gorman decides to introduce us to! And I'd LOVE to get to know Ash and Snow's babies!! We need a DYNASTY here, people!!

Although I don't usually read contemporary YA fiction, I was willing to try this one because the plot fascinated me from the get-go! And I was DEFINITELY not disappointed! This novel hooked me in right away, and didn't let go until I had devoured it completely! In fact, I'm now wishing it had been just a bit longer, so I could have remained in this fictional world, with these wonderful characters, just a couple more days.....
Snow is such a GREAT character! Although I'm very far from being a martial arts expert (I rarely even go to the gym, lol), I felt and understood her passion for this type of sports activity. Her dedication to being as good as she could possibly be, her admiration for Bruce Lee -- these things made her very likeable to me. I have my passion for books and bookish things. I have my own literary idols, too. So yes, I could relate quite well to Snow!
Aside from her passion for martial arts, Snow is also a very caring person. She has a deep bond with her mother and close friends Min-Hee and Bae, whom she affectionately calls "Bae Bae". Also, she gives all of herself to teaching martial arts to both kids and adults, displaying endless patience with her students.
There's one other quality that, together with all of the above, makes me wish I could be friends with someone like Snow in real life. (Yeah, I know.....I would have to become a teen again. I SO wish I could!!) What is it? Her sense of humor. She's not precisely snarky. In fact, I'd say her brand of humor is a bit self-deprecatory at times. But still, I do like it. And she doesn't always direct it at herself.
Paradoxically enough, I also loved that Snow was a bit insecure. She was far from being one of those people who brag about their accomplishments and/or abilities. She was instead very much down-to-earth.
I really felt for her in some parts of the novel, too, because she gets bullied by a group of "girly girls" who look down on her, due to the fact that she's a tomboy. But tomboys can harbor deep romantic passion ("still waters run deep", right?), and Snow makes this oh-so-evident when she impulsively dashes over to Ash, who is a complete stranger to her, in a movie theater, and steals a kiss from him. A kiss, that, by the way, sends her "up in flames", according to the story.
And now for Ash! What does this guy who gets a female bodyguard have going for himself? Well, first of all, he's SUPER COOL. He's not at all turned off by the fact that Snow can easily flip him over her head in two seconds flat, whenever she chooses. He's confident in himself, to the point that he doesn't need to "feel superior" to the female species. Of course, he's a hottie, but he doesn't act like one. No male braggadocio for him! (This makes him very compatible with Snow, since she doesn't brag about her abilities, either.) Ash Stryker was a familiar hero courtesy Adorkable. Cocky, confident, unexpectedly grounded and the perfectly delightful thorn in the Becks-Sally love saga. So when I came to know that Stryker had a love story of his very own AND with a badass, martial arts experts no less, I was instantly enchanted with the blurb.
Things to love about Ninja Girl:
1. Our feisty heroine with a few insecurities, Snow Soon-Lee who shares her worries and fears and joys with a poster of her favourite idol, Bruce (BE-LIKE-WATER-MY-FRIEND) Lee.
2. Ash being instantly smitten by the mysterious girl who planted a kiss on his lips and managed to escape his professional bodyguards. And keeping up the insta-crush momentum throughout the book.
3. Girl saving boy. Boy not haven’t a gigantic ego crisis about aforementioned fact. Boy being a perfect foil to girl’s badass ninja skills. AND being immensely and ridiculously proud of his fierce love-interest.
4. Cute banter between the members of the cast.
5. The appearance of favourites from other Cookie Gorman books that help and hinder Ash in his attempts to win his lady love.
There are a few unbelievable bits but honestly this felt like one of those cozy and sassy K-Dramas that have given fluffy, pink-tinged wings to our cynical hearts.

March 30, 2017This book was everything I've been I've been waiting for after Adorkable. After a wait that seemed forever long, I'm so happy with how this book turned out. The characters were so relatable, per usual, and I fell in love with all of them. There was mystery and suspense and it totally surprised me. I can't decide weather I love this one or Adorkable more, and that's a huge compliment for this book in itself. I'm so excited to reread this one until Cookie O'Gorman release another fantastic read.

I was so happy when I learnt that Cookie O'Gorman was giving Ash his own book. I really liked Ash in Adorkable, and wanted to read his story. I was even happier when I saw that it had alternating POVs. But I didn't like Ninja Girl as much as I did Adorkable. I loved the concept of a badass female bodyguard, but I didn't particularly connect with Snow or her friends. The death threats seemed kinda silly, and the whole thing was a little too transparent. I liked the second half of the book a lot more, but Adorkable still remains my favourite of the two.

I loved loved loves O'Gorman's first book, Adorkable, and it got me really excited to read this one because of Ash. He wasn't my favorite in Adorkable but I was looking forward to seeing more of him. Ninja Girl was cute and very empowering for ladies. Snow is totally kick butt and I loved it. I loved the added mystery and I love the new characters. I absolutely loved the Becks and Sally cameo. Guy, seriously, I was screaming and jumping when they popped up. I felt like Snow and Ash's love story started up too fast for me but it was still cute.

Instead of the regular damsel-in-distress, it's a guy named Ash that due to his father's position is being targeted and he falls for a strong girl named Snow who knows how to defend herself that becomes his bodyguard. I also did not expect the plot twist of who were the ones threatening his family, thought it was someone else.

I liked Ash in Adorkable, and I'm happy he got his own story. :) He and Snow are a good match, and it's fun to have Sally and Becks make an appearance, too, among the supporting cast.
I particularly enjoyed the role reversal in the usual bodyguard trope with Snow kicking a** (no, not Ash, even if she is occasionally so inclined) and taking names.
Maybe the villains were not all that mysterious, and I might have wished for a bit more drama with the Buchanan brood, but all in all I had a lot of fun with these characters and their story.
Bonus points for big, bad Bae Bae and fanboi Koi. :)

Just like her two other contemporary companion novels, this one made me laugh, smile, and scream. This honestly might be my favorite, though Adorkable comes in very close second. The banters between the main characters were great, but also among other characters too. Ash and Snow both have so much sass and it's one of the best traits I see in a character. The romance was definitely believable and there was a lot of angst.
Snow's mother might be my favorite though. She was cold, but can kick anyone's butt any day. Especially ones that come near to hurting her daughter. I definitely got a laugh out of that.
There was a small mystery arc that kept the story pretty interesting. It was predictable, yes, but very enjoyable. This whole book was enjoyable. And fun. And I would definitely pick up another Cookie O'Gorman contemporary again!

So much love for this book! I fell in love with Cookie O'Gorman's writing and characters in ADORKABLE and couldn't wait to read Ash's story. Ash is a soccer phenom and the nemesis of the main love interest in ADORKABLE. So of course finding out not only is he in NINJA GIRL but we also get his point of view, and I was beyond excited. NINJA GIRL does not disappoint. Told from alternating points of view, we get to meet Snow-Soon Lee, a total bad-ass at martial arts, but not so much when it comes to romance. And then there's Ash who is more than just a talented athlete. When Ash's dad decides to run for congress, someone else decides that's a bad idea and is threatening the family. Enter Snow, who is hired as Ash's bodyguard during the school day, where she can blend with the student body. Ash is immediately smitten, but to say Snow is wary would be an understatement. With equal parts romance, humor, and action, the author's signature style, the story moves at a light-hearted pace with more than a few swoony moments. While I did figure out who was after Ash's family, I didn't know the motive, and it all made perfect sense in the end.
Plot
Primarily a young adult romance, there's a bit of a mystery, some danger, and a fair amount of action, making this a really fun read. The romance is sweet and angsty with a lot of back and forth. While Ash knows what he wants, the conflict is driven from Snow's reluctance to get involved with her client as well as her wariness of someone like Ash being interested in someone like her and her general lack of experience with romantic relationships. Where Ash is all smooth and buttery, Snow is awkward and unsure, making these two perfectly adorable opposites.
Characters
I love the characters. Not only is Ash everything I hoped for, but Snow is one of my favorite young adult protagonists. Ever. She's intimidating and unsure all at once and pulls it off in a thoroughly believable way. I adore her loyalty to her mother, her responsibility to her job, and her very vulnerable heart. Her growth through the story is slow and not necessarily dramatic, but enough that she realizes she has more to offer the world, and Ash, than just protection. Ash has less character development. He knows who he is and what he wants from the beginning. But I still loved reading his point of view. Helping us see Snow from a different perspective helped bring her to life in a way a single point of view couldn't.
What I Loved About NINJA GIRL
1. Snow. She's so interesting; a complete jumble of tough bad-assery mixed with teen insecurities and loads of angst.
2. Ash. Getting inside his head was deliciously good fun -- he's everything I hoped he'd be and more.
3. World Building. I love the diversity of the book, mixing Snow's Asian culture with Ash's wealth and privilege.
4. Action. The fight scenes were great. Either the author has a black belt in martial arts or she did extensive homework.
5. Quirky Characters. Cookie O'Gorman has a way of creating lovable characters that are just slightly off-balance. They're endearing and more real due to their flaws.
Bottom Line
Once again, author Cookie O'Gorman delivers a fun story with adorable characters and a kick-ass plot.

Marvelous YA romance!
There is absolutely no "sophomore slump" for this author. I loved her first book and this, her second book, is just as good or, in some ways, even better.
This young-adult "dramedy" (part comedy, part drama) is based on a terrific twist on the ever-green, romance-genre trope, the bodyguard romance: This time around, the bodyguard is the FMC! At 16, Korean-American Lee Snow-Soon (or as we say names in America, Snow-Soon Lee, with the surname last), is a masterfully talented martial artist. Her greatest hero in life is Bruce Lee, other than her real-world hero, her widowed, kick-ass mother, a former Secret Service agent who runs a martial arts academy and taught Snow everything she knows.
The MMC, Ash Stryker, is a highly-talented, 17-year-old soccer player, whose wealthy father is running for the U.S. Senate. His whole family is being threatened by a dangerous stalker. Unfortunately, the bodyguard hired to protect Ash is inadequate to the task of keeping Ash safe, which leads to Snow's protecting Ash by fending off dual attackers when Ash's professional bodyguard neglects his duty and is not there to do it.
In the wake of this dramatic event, Ash's mother pleads with Snow's mother to allow her to hire Snow to be Ash's bodyguard during weekdays at the private school he attends. Ash is more than happy to have Snow in this position, as he not only greatly admires her martial arts skills but, unknown to both their mothers, he and Snow have a startling history. They recently shared an explosive kiss as two total strangers--a kiss which Snow herself initiated in a dark movie theater as both a personal dare, because she had never been kissed before, and as a test of the man with Ash that night who was obviously his bodyguard but whom Snow suspected was not keeping close enough watch on Ash.
This story is told in the dual point of view of both the FMC and MMC, each narrated in first person, but it is always made clear as to whose head we are in.
The subcharacters are also very well written, and I particularly enjoyed the fact that the parents are kind, loving, decent human beings. The "orphaning" that is so essential in YA and children's novels, so that the MCs can actively work to solve their own problems, is done quite creatively in this novel via the action-adventure portion of the plot.
This extremely well-written YA novel contains the classic, coming-of-age character growth so central to YA fiction, as well as the exciting action-adventure I mentioned above and, best of all, a wonderful, G-rated romance that is both tender and passionate.
Speaking from the perspective of a huge fan of the romance genre, who is also quite jaded, for me personally, this is one of the best-written YA romances I've ever read.

Ash is more than happy to have Snow in this position, as he not only greatly admires her martial arts skills but, unknown to both their mothers, he and Snow have a startling history. They recently shared an explosive kiss as two total strangers--a kiss which Snow herself initiated in a dark movie theater as both a personal dare, because she had never been kissed before, and as a test of the man with Ash that night who was obviously his bodyguard but whom Snow suspected was not keeping close enough watch on Ash.
This story is told in the dual point of view of both the FMC and MMC, each narrated in first person, but it is always made clear as to whose head we are in.
The subcharacters are also very well written, and I particularly enjoyed the fact that the parents are kind, loving, decent human beings. The "orphaning" that is so essential in YA and children's novels, so that the MCs can actively work to solve their own problems, is done quite creatively in this novel via the action-adventure portion of the plot.
This extremely well-written YA novel contains the classic, coming-of-age character growth so central to YA fiction, as well as the exciting action-adventure I mentioned above and, best of all, a wonderful, G-rated romance that is both tender and passionate.
Speaking from the perspective of a huge fan of the romance genre, who is also quite jaded, for me personally, this is one of the best-written YA romances I've ever read.

Reread 10/14/24: I enjoyed this novel just as much the second time around. It is a really fun read, and it is suitable for all ages. There is no foul language, no drunkenness, and nothing more sensual than a couple of kisses.

“Snow and Ash.” To me, he said, “Come on, you can’t deny it, ninja girl. We were made for each other, don't you agree?”
Our names did sound great together.
“Snow’s mine and I’m hers,” Ash announced. “This little lady has stolen my heart, and I hope she never gives it back.”
Just like that, my first client had become my first fake boyfriend. I thought that only happened in the cheesy romantic comedies I secretly loved.
Just as good, sweet, and adorable the first time I read it. 5 stars.

The mystery girl from the movies didn’t need all that crap on her face. She was hot without it. A pair of deep brown eyes and full lips flashed through my mind. I shook my head. My girl was a natural beauty-and she’d managed to surprise the hell out of me and my detail. (Okay, only on page 26, and Ash was already calling Snow his girl. I’m having a swooning moment).
“Immensely,” he said. “Distracting you could become one of my favorite pastimes.”
“You’re killing me here, ninja girl.”
I turned to find Ash leaning against the wall. His stance was relaxed, but his face was tense. “What do you mean?” I said.
“I didn’t think this would be so nerve-wracking,” he said. “I’ve dreamed about this, you being here in my room.”
“You have?”
Ash grinned. “Just about every night since we met.”
“Stryker,” Bae Bae came up behind her and threw a massive arm over her shoulders. He didn’t sound happy. “Why are you here?”
“I missed you,” I said and blew him an air kiss. The guy didn’t even crack a smile.
“It is,” Sadie agreed. “I always say the only thing sexier than a guy who can dance is one with a book. Bonus points if it’s Harry Potter.”
A beat of silence.
“What?” she said, looking at our confused faces. “Guys who read are hot.”
My lips swallowed her protests. My lips burned beneath mine, and I wanted more. Wanted her to forget where we were. Wanted her to remember how hot this fire burned between us. Wanted her...God, I just wanted her.
Holy crap! This book was way too freaking cute! What I love about this book is that it's the girl who saves the boy where usually in the YA romances, it’s the guy who saves the girl. This book has a great message about gender roles being reversed and it’s a perfect message for young readers. I love how Cookie O’Gorman challenges stereotypes, and has a very well diverse cast. Ash is from the Southern United States and Snow is from Korean. I love that Ash was totally okay with Snow being his bodyguard. Even though Snow was his bodyguard, he still protected Snow as well. I read Adorkable last month and I still can’t get over how much I love it. And this book is going to be just like that. Adorkable is my favorite book Cookie O'Gorman but this book was adorable. Cookie O’Gorman has become one of my favorite YA authors. She knows how to write fun, cute, entertaining YA books.

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)
Ninja Girl was funny, entertaining and daring at the gender roles swap, but it worked out so well and naturally that we can’t even imagine it any other way. I was thankfully surprised that both main characters were likeable and that, while Ash sounded just like your typical not-as-bad-boy-as-he-thinks-he-is, Snow is a true boss. She has the personality, the sass, the everything that makes a heroin both human and perfect at the same time. Honestly, this book just didn’t make it to the big stars because of one single line that I am freaking tired of reading and that I wished it was turned illegal:
Anyway. Narrative, as you must have realized was first person styled (16th book in less than a month, congrats to me. I want to die a little) with switching points of view between Snow and Ash. I liked them well enough, but again this is an “it’s me, not you” problem. Can someone seriously to God explain to me the appeal of first person narratives? I’m seriously curious and hunting for good reasons here. PLEASE, HELP ME SEE THE LIGHT?!!! :/
The plot was interesting and had a hint of “omg what comes next now?!” that I highly appreciated. Again, as it happens with most contemporary romances, no big mysteries to solve, just pieces to put together into a main picture. Risking to sound the most cheesy panda of the blogosphere, love and teenage are mysteries on themselves, right? LMAO
Well, I also already complimented and gushed about Snow and meh-ed about Ash, so I’ll just talk about how I liked O’Gorman’s choice of protagonists. I love when really different people get caught up in a romance – the differences spice the relationship for life ;D

This cover is so cute! Definitely the first thing that attracted me towards this title and I don’t regret being fished like that at all, haha! I like the models, the elements and the position of everything – the cover is very similar to Adorkable’ in style matters, but not blatantly marked, which also wins points with me – so I’m in love with this book as a whole.
