Suzanne G. Rogers is a California native, but she changed coastlines and now lives in romantic Savannah, Georgia, on an island populated by deer, exotic birds, turtles, and the occasional gator. Writing blush-free young adult fiction is her passion.
Wow! Super riveting plot, with so many obstacles and trials for the poor hero’s and heroine’s to overcome. This is set in England about 1875. The story follows two couples path to love. Ashley Pepper and Euphemia, and Tom and Sybil. Ashley is a poet who is in love with his neighbor Euphemia. But when he meets her secretly outside her home to say goodbye before she goes to London to have a season where she pretends for her uncle’s sake, that same uncle finds them together and sends her away. He then forbids Ash from ever seeing her again, and shoots his gun near Ash’s horse, crippling him when he is thrown from his horse. A horrible tale begins where the poor heroine is whisked away without knowing her lover’s tragic fate. Her uncle begins machinations to wed her to a wealthy, titled man, and Euphemia is forced against her will to become engaged to Lord Fallows while Ashley mourns his fate as a crippled, worthless man who will never be worthy of his love.
The other couple are intertwined through blood and lineage. Tom is Lord Fallow’s brother. When his step-brother throws him out of the house to make room in the house for his soon-to-be-wife (Euphemia), Tom is heartbroken. But when Euphemia meets him in secret and begs his help to contact her true love, he is more than willing to help. When he takes her message to the Pepper residence, he meets Sybil, Ashley’s sister who is helping him regain his muscle strength and urging him to hope to walk again. He is smitten by her intelligence and beauty, but she is as good as engaged to a local headmaster, Wally.
This is the set up for this crazy, intricate story between four star-crossed lovers. Books always throw hardships at the couples, but this one has way more than usual. I’d think things would look up for them, and then another obstacle would be thrown at them. It made the tension thick as molasses, and just as dark and scary at times. I really enjoyed how the author swung me back and forth. I’d love the hero, then I’d want to hit him over the head for being stupid. The heroines were strong and I loved them. They had super hard obstacles to overcome, but never gave up. Overall, this was a great story for the plot alone. I really enjoyed it.
I just finished this book and just have a smile on my face. What an adventure! This is several stories in one which makes this a fascinating read you will not be able able to put down. Ashley Pepper and Euphemia Exeter are devoted to each other and cannot wait to marry. The problem is Euphemia's guardian, her Uncle Quincy wants her money which she will inherit on her birthday. He takes action to get rid of Ash by making Ash have a serious accident that puts him in a wheelchair, possibly never to walk. Whisking Euphemia off to London before she realizes what has happen to Ash, he plots to make her marry Gerald, Lord Fallow to gain control of her money. Complicated you say? In a twist, Euphemia gets a note to Gerald's brother, Tom Reeves to help her in her plight. Meanwhile Ash and his sister, Sybil come to stay with Tom to help rescue Euphemia. Not to give away the story, there are a lot of twist and turns which are fascinating. With adventure, intrigue, hidden secrets (Yes, Lady Fallows' who is Gerald and Tom's mother that has just passed away) and a couple of heartwarming romances, this story has it all. This is the first book I have read by Suzanne G Rogers and what a great one to be introduced to her stories! She is now part of my "read every book" author list and cannot wait to pick up the next one.
This turned out better than expected! I liked the characters and that it was a page-turner. Many different stories and conflicts that had me wondering what would happen next.
Fantastic intrigue, mystery, great characters, interesting plot and sweet romance. I enjoyed this novel very much and look forward to more by this author.
Delightful, refreshing love story By Happytraveler December 17, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition
A heartwarming story about young love, thwarted by an evil, money-hungry uncle from allowing their love to further develop. A pistol shot meant to intimidate Ashley, the young man, results in his being thrown from his horse, leaving him unable to walk. The book follows Euphemia as she is sent to London for the Season, unaware of Ash’s injury at the hands of her uncle. The uncle becomes progressively more controlling, finally arranges a marriage match for her with an undesirable viscount. How is she to escape? Her relief comes from a most unexpected source, her soon-to-be brother-in-law, Tom.
A second storyline develops early in the book with Ash’s sister Sybil, who has given up her prospects to care for her now invalid brother. Soon, Tom and Sybil’s paths cross and a second love story starts. The book delightfully weaves these 2 threads into an interesting story which is hard to put down. The love scenes are clean, with only passionate kisses described. I find this refreshing. Complications along the way add interest elements to the story. However, it is the 2 stories of young love that hold one’s interest throughout the book. The intrepid characters fight against all odds to obtain their heart’s desire-each other. So, what is Lady Fallow’s Secret? Read this delightful book and find out! I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, without compensation.
I’m a huge fan of Suzanne G. Rogers’ historical romances, and I usually order them as soon as they’re available. Her books always contain nail-biting drama and sigh-worthy romance, and this one certainly delivers. It’s quite a bit longer than most of her other romances, so I’m glad I put it in my reading cue at a time when I’m not as pressed for time. Euphemia has been promised in marriage to Lord Fallows, and her uncle is determined to see that the wedding takes place – even though she’s in love with someone else. The lengths that her uncle goes to can only be described as abuse, and my heart bled for her when her efforts to escape his clutches were thwarted.
This wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. The premise was promising, but the characters, plot, and dialogue were underdeveloped and boring. It was a safe read, but the drama was OTT and simplistically told. I appreciated the clean content, the lack of insta-love/lust, the focus on character instead of appearances, and the multiple povs, but cannot recommend this to someone who appreciates subtle and well developed writing.
A delightful and engrossing read. The smart as well as intelligent badinage among the characters are the most Fun and Entertaining portions where moments of sharp witticisms border into bursts of hilarity for the reader (all the more enJOYable because they are unexpected). The interplay between the characters, the drama and conflict are all interwoven into the story in such a smooth yet unobtrusive way, which makes this author a Brilliant Storyteller.
I loved this book! The characters were well defined and the ending was very satisfying! I would love to read more about both of the couples in this book! Here's hoping for more from this author!
Thank you for well written stories. They have great character development and interesting plots. I also appreciate the lack of sex scenes. Refreshing and delightful!!
Funny, passionate (without vulgarity), witty, often surprising, & kept my attention from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed how the author gave detailed descriptions without becoming boring. Simply an excellent read!I definitely recommend!
This book kept me guessing through out the entire book. Sometimes the tears came sometimes it was funny. It certainly kept me reading. I like books that have an exciting and happy ending.
Partway into this book, I thought: I've read this author before! I really enjoy her writing style. She adds a little something extra to the typical narrative- and does a great job of it! Easy to read, fun and entertaining. I look forward to reading more of her work!
Lady Fallows’ Secrets is kind-of two romances in one. Gotta love that!! Especially when you love both couples! Ash and Euphemia go through so much to be together! Their constant devotion to each other is inspiring. I really admired Sybil and her willingness and desire to do anything to help her brother. Then there’s Tom, who has nothing to gain in the beginning, but is willing to help because it’s the right thing to do. All four are wonderful characters that I was rooting for the whole time!
I loved the book! I was enthralled from beginning to end! With two sweet love stories, villains that were easy to hate, action and daring rescues, secrets and intrigue, I just couldn’t put the book down. Highly recommended!
I was given a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
I was delighted to get this book for free on my Kindle several months ago, because I have enjoyed many of this author's other books, and this one was no exception. The characters are realistic, the dialogue enjoyable, and the plot intriguing.
A very unique plot. I loved the characters and story. I felt like the climax came too soon and then the wrap up took too long, but it was an entertaining read regardless. Clean, funny, and romantic.
Will Sybil give her heart to a man she can’t wed? Will she be able to rescue her brother? There is unbridled passion. Bonds between friends are put to the test. Unraveling secrecies and dishonesty. Sybil gets caught up in a concealed tense plot sprinkled with peril, and it’s connected with a strikingly fine-looking man who offered her help. Sybil's younger brother was seriously hurt, and she had been anxious to aid him. Regrettably, the one young lady who eased his depression was taken to London by a stern caretaker. The author joined passion with bright characters. There are abundant curve balls in the plot and intriguing goings-on. Also, stories within the story for many of the characters which really makes it easy to get hooked on this read. A truly sweet, clean Victorian tale with great dialog, mystery and suspense.
The language at the start of this book was so pretentious, perhaps in an attempt to sound historically authentic, that I almost stopped reading by page 20. I continued because I was fascinated by the plot. In the end I enjoyed the book, but in many places reading felt like jogging through jello: slow and ponderous in spite of the sweet love exhibited by the characters. After the slowness, the ending happened so quickly that it felt unfinished.
I do not know this author. I hope this is an early work because there is enough good here that I believe excellence is possible.
Ash has been injured, will be ever walk again? Euphemia is set to marry the Viscount Fellows, whether she wants to or not. Tom is the Viscount's younger half brother, and according to the Viscount, born out of wedlock. Sybil is Ash's sister and wants nothing more than for Tom to take notice of her, regardless of the fact that her brother wants her to marry Wally. And that's just in the first two chapters! Delightfully fun, read it!
A crazy mayhem of trickery and lies and greed and loyalty and love. The manners and dialogue and settings appeared fully appropriate to the time. The characters-both good and evil-lent spice to the action. Yes the plot was full of the usual caste system and “ton” arrogance and fortune hunters willing to do anything for money, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Sybil and Tom, Ash and Euphemia. Plus supporting characters who make this story so much fun to read. The good guys are really good. The bad guys are downright evil. Throughout the entire story I wondered if some of the bad guys (I won't do a spoiler by naming them) would actually get away with their evil acts. I highly recommend this book because it has wonderful characters and a great story, all with depth and color.
I thought this story was well written and interesting. The characters are admirable or truly despicable - depending on their role. The romance was charming and not graphic...just what I enjoy. My only criticism is the story was somewhat predictable but had a few surprises toward the end. Definitely will be reading more from Suzanne Rogers.
I love Suzanne G. Rogers' wholesome Victorian Romances! Lady Fallows' Secrets does not disappoint. It reminds me of how often life seems to take a turn for the worse, only to set someone like Lady Fallow on a new path. With plenty of surprises and a great ending, I'd recommend Lady Fallow's Secret to anyone who likes a little mystery, a taste of Victorian life, and a gutsy heroine in the main role.
Set in the fascinating time period of Lords and Ladies! It is a fast moving story filled with subterfuge, scheming and multiple romances. I loved the characters! A fun read, I would recommend this read to anyone who is a romantic at heart! I received this read for free, and I am voluntarily submitting my review.
It's actually 2 endearing love stories, both which almost never came to be. Scheming, greedy relatives and circumstances beyond anyone's control make overwhelming obstacles. But if you're looking for a sweet, clean historical romance, I believe you'll enjoy this one.
