When a drunk driver snuffs out the life of her pregnant sister, Silk O’Connor resolves to take justice into her own hands at the courthouse where the scumbag is holding a press conference after being freed by a corrupt justice system bought off by his rich daddy.
Jake Marshall is a decorated soldier on leave, filling in for a friend at Sterling Security—and protecting the very man who used his car as a weapon and murdered Silk’s only family.
The two clash when Jake finds Silk preparing to mete out her own frontier-style brand of justice from the courthouse roof…and the adrenaline-fueled high-stakes world it ensnares the pair in will test them to their absolute limit.
It’s a fight for survival as they’re forced to team up to dispense justice on an international scale when thrust into the evil world of sex trafficking. It just might be a fight to the death.

Lessons my Grandma taught me.

I have such fond memories of my grandmothers. They were both special in their own way and taught me so much about how to live my life that I will be forever grateful! Here’s the list of six top things they shared with me:

(1) Don’t say anything if you can’t say something nice about someone. I think this is my favorite one as it has kept me in good stead all my life.

(2) Never be late. Doing so makes you think you’re more important than someone else. You’re not!

(3) Life is too serious to be taken seriously. Keep a sense of humor, it will help get you through the hard times. They were both right about that one.

(4) Share what you can with those in need. Know what is your burden to bear, and what is not. This one has kept me sane over the years.

(5) Don’t be a critic. Critic’s don’t create, they only tear down. This helps me when reviewers say unkind things about my work. I try to remember that they probably just need a hug today.

(6) Do the best you can do at everything you do. At least then you will know you gave it your all.

Thank you, my beautiful grandmothers, for being strong and sharing your gems of wisdom with me. You did more good than you can possibly know.
Hugs, January Bain

Silk O’Connor lost her last surviving relative in a car accident she was hit by a drunk driver. Silk being in pain and grieving over the death of her sister wants revenge for her sister and the only way she can see for that to happen right now is to kill the guy.

Using the lessons that she learned from her marine sniper brother Jackson who lost his life while fighting in Iraq Silk makes plans to kill the guy she is about to pull the trigger ending this guy’s life when something slams into her and she goes down while the bullet goes wild missing her target.

The something that slams into her is none other than Jake Marshall who was only filling in for a friend at a security agency. Jake is not in the mood for taking down a sniper at the moment. After the girl starts taking and lets him in on why she was trying to shoot the guy Jake feels bad for her and doesn’t turn her in.

Jake talks to Silk trying to help her see that what she was doing was not the right thing to do that she needs to find another way to get her revenge besides going to prison would not be what her sister wanted for her. Jake talks Silk into finding another way to make the guy pay for killing her sister.

Jake gives Silk information on this guy and his father about their trafficking business. Silk goes undercover in order to help find a way to bring this guy down and make him pay for his crimes.

Racing Peril starts with action in the first sentence and never lets up. It is intense and filled with mystery, suspense, love pulse a lot of other emotions that will have you racing along with Jake and Silk rooting for them the whole way.

Racing Peril is a short fast read that packs a whole lot between its pages. It may be short but it has a lot of action and twists with a big plot but it all flows along real smooth and doesn’t feel rushed like a lot of small/thin books do sometimes. Silk and Jake’s stories just seem to jump out at you having you racing along wanting to know what is going to happen next. It is one book that will stay with me long after I have read the last page and leave me wanting more of their story.

I highly recommend Racing Peril to all fans of mystery, suspense, action, romance and great characters.

January is a master of intertwining suspense with romance. Racing Peril is a fast-paced, excellent prequel to Racing the Tide--both stories which I've had the pleasure of reading. Silk and Jake have a chemistry that registers off the charts and January combines my favorite trope of two people butting heads who work together. Throw in a couple steamy scenes, a fulfilling ending, and you have an awesome story that flies by. That's the thing with January's stories: you read them fast because they are unputdownable. The romance and action share the stage and Silk and Jake are such real characters, you feel like you know them by the end. (I'm so glad we get to see them again in Racing Peril).

I highly recommend this book and series for fans of romantic suspense, especially with a bad-ass heroine and a good hero.

Loved this story, I was pulled in from the first page and the chemistry between Jake and Silk is strong and instant. Really good characters. throughout the book, so hoping they will all make another appearance as the series continues. Everything moves at a good pace and the story is gripping,
and full of suspense. Would definitely recommend.

This story has action, mystery, suspense and romance. The two main characters, Silk and Jake do not see eye to eye and yet they have amazing chemistry with each other that results in some steamy scenes and in interesting story! This book grabbed my attention and every time I went to put it down I found myself reading just one more chapter, and before I knew it I had read the book!

Lots of action. Silk was a good character who was after the man who killed her sister. Jake was working security and was also a good character. The two had good chemistry and lots of steam. When the two start to investigate together they find more than planned. Great story that was a fast read. Loved it!

She had nothing else to loose, so her thirst for vengeance took over. Luckily, he had found her, and understood what she needed.
Together, with a few new friends, they made promise to her dead sister come true.

Wow! January Bain does it again with an amazing love story wrapped up in a fast-paced thriller. Her writing made me feel like I was right there with Jake and Silk. The two are so perfect for one another it’s completely believable they’d fall so hard and fast. Jake is sexy as hell from his gorgeous eyes to the tattoos decorating his smoking hot body. When he meets Silk, she’s alone and broken but with her iron-will intact. I couldn’t stop reading.

Silk and Jake were both great characters. Silk is after revenge for her sister's death and Jake is a bodyguard to protect the man responsible. When the two meet the chemistry is great and they end up working together to investigate and take down this group. Lots of action and some twists. Loved it!!
