Walruses is one of the titles in “The Sea Mammal Discovery Library” series. The book was first published in 1955, but it should be noted that Brown mentions changes in scientific beliefs regarding Walruses and their diet. This non-fiction books gives a detailed account of Walruses, describing the characteristics of the species including their habits, appearance, behaviors and habitat. Bold letters are used to draw attention to important terms, and each page has a heading which makes it easy for the reader to determine the information that is on the page. The colorful images on glossy finish clarify and extend the text thus making it easy for the young reader to gain a full understanding of the descriptions. Some images are oversized and although they do not have captions, there is a brief description at the bottom of the facing page. The book has a table of contents, glossary and index. The simple language, added to mid-sized font make it easy to read. This book provides a great way to learn about Walruses.
